Mention the word diesel and you'll think of an engine. Rudolph Diesel invented the diesel engine in the 1890s and revolutionized transport and industry, but interestingly, Diesel didn't see that that was his greatest contribution to mankind. [music] He thought his major gift was a treatise on social order that he called solidarismus and he published that in 1903. Now, history has largely forgotten solidarismus, but the diesel engine changed the world. Picasso believed that his poems were far superior to his paintings. History's view of them is as a footnote to his work as an artist. The month of Elul is a time when we think about what it is [music] we're really supposed to be doing in this world. We get so distracted, we get so confused by the torrent of images that flock into our heads by voices that tell us what matters, what success looks like, [music] what we should wear, what we should want, what we should know, who should we become, opinions, images, influences, an endless stream of other people's ideas, and in all that noise, it's very easy to forget and lose sight of the most basic question, why did Hashem put me here in this world? Ani Ledodi Velododi Li. I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine. Elul is a time when we can return to our true selves, when we return to Dodi, our beloved, to Hashem.
