The photographs from the recent Artemis 2 space mission took me right back to 1968. Uh Apollo 8, this is Houston at 6804. You're riding the best bird we can find. If you remember, as they orbited the moon, William Anders, the lunar module pilot of the [music] Apollo 8 mission, captured that first iconic Earthrise photo showing our beautiful planet [music] rising over the lunar horizon. In a way, [music] it was the world's first selfie. This time, Artemis 2 went further than man has ever traveled, and the photography was superb, but the feeling was the same, a small luminous sphere suspended in endless darkness. Everything we know, every city, every person, every life we live, spinning around on that little green, blue, and white marble. One of the most difficult things in davening is when we say the Shema, when we pronounce Hashem's name, we're meant to think he's the creator of everything. Not just the Earth, not just the solar system, the universe, everything, beyond and beyond the beyond. Now, this [music] isn't an easy thing to imagine. But I got some help when I saw those pictures from Artemis. When I say the Shema now, I think of that view of Earth from afar. [music] And so to speak, I then, in my mind, pull back. I expand that view more [music] and more and more until that little pinhead of a of an Earth vanishes, and then even more, extending out to it and further into the vastness of space until our galaxy, the Milky Way, which contains between 100 and 400 billion stars, [music] also starts to shrink and shrink until it becomes a pinhead, too, and then vanishes, and then on and on and on until it becomes [music] just a little easier to conceptualize that Hashem is the master of all.
