The Hanukkah Candle of the Satmar Rabbi - Rabbi Yirmiyahu Abramov

[Music] Salome you know we learn much from little annek anecdotes and incidents that take place in the lives of simple people and the lives of great people I want to share with you a few of these great little incidents that have very deep and profound lessons Shaniqua you know there was a Jew by the name of ripp small slit slur he was in bergen-belsen concentration camp and he saw that the people were so low and so down and there was so much pain and suffering and torture inflicted upon them that he felt with the approach of Seneca maybe he can spark up their lives and spruce up their lives with the lights of Hanukkah candles but where do you find Hanukkah lights will you find candles will you find oil wicks container for the for the oil in this world of concrete of these concentration camps and one day shortly before Hanukkah on his way to his labor this forced labor that they were going out of town to cut down trees and he noticed that there was some earth that clearly had been dug up and replaced again some wet earth that was clearly had something was buried there he was curious so after his work he snuck out of his barracks and he came to this place he dug and lo and behold in case there in a container where was a few jars of oil wicks and the containers to hold the week's he had everything he needed for Hanukkah someone had clearly prepared this hidden it and this wasn't coming to claim it he took them and using these Chanukah equipment he lit the candles and and he sparked so much life and joy into the hearts of sad downtrodden Jews not knowing what tomorrow would bring them after the war one day he was he went to his rabbi the great satmar rebbe and he was telling him of his experiences and one of the experiences that was a highlight for him was this discovery of this equipment to light Chanukah candles and when he told the story the Rebbe said I'll tell you where they from I had the same feelings that you had i procured these at great expense hid them and intended come Chanukah to light the candles for the people in the camp however the I was without any warning whisked out of the camp when the famous Kastner train came he was selected as one of those privileged Jews who would be taken to safety and they were taken to safety and Switzerland and he was basically freed and I always wondered what happened to those candles that I had prepared I never told me buddy about though didn't have the opportunity to and the Rebbe then said everything that you does in his life if he has a good intention at some stage it will come to fruition [Music] [Applause]
