I was once asked on an interview what is
the number one problem facing marriages
today an answer is very simple I just
reached into my pocket and pulled this
out it's a smartphone do you know this
is a number-one problem people have in
my office when they come speak to me
when I started counseling several years
ago people didn't have cell phones then
they had cell phones and they left them
in their jacket pockets when they sat
down a few years after that people would
put their cell phones on the table in my
office but recently I have to tell you
an unbelievable story people actually
hold on to their cell phone while
they're talking to me in my office and
they're actually looking at their
messages they're checking their whatsapp
they're checking their cell phone
messages they're checking their Facebook
messages this is indeed the number one
problem most marriages are facing today
people spend so much time on their
smartphones
I saw one study once that a person looks
at their cell phone between a thousand
and twelve hundred times a day how many
times you actually turn to your spouse
as much as you turn to your cell phone
and we can understand why your cell
phone provides for you almost anything
you want instantaneously you want news
turn to your cell phone you want to
connect with somebody turn to your cell
phone you want to go shopping turn to
your cell phone you want to take a drive
to a place if you're not sure if there's
traffic or not you also turn to your
cell phone so one of the most important
things we have to do in relationships
today is to learn to put down our cell
phones there's no question about it that
if we spend more time with one another
our marriages would be that much better
so I hope you turn what we call face
time into real time I hope you're able
to put down your phone turn to one
another and I guarantee you a more
happier marriage welcome to this new
