Obviously, right now we're in crazy
times. We're in the middle of a war. Um,
and this things just escalated like u
Iran nuclear bombing attacking and and
things are crazy. I think it's very
important to to point out really
something that's a lesson for every day
in life and certainly a lesson for the
most trying, you know, scary moments of
life. And I want to start off with the
question is, is there ever a time to
ever really be afraid?
We got a very tough man over here. No,
never a time to be afraid. I'd say yes.
Yes. I love it. This is going to be a
This is going to be a Jewish discussion.
Yes. And no. We already have two
answers. Let's see how many we're going
to come up with. Yes. The only thing in
the fear is God himself. H. We have a
biblical man over here.
Praise the Lord.
[Laughter]
The only man, the only thing to fear is
God himself. Fear is real. Fear is real
and we we all experience it. And of
course, there's guns, there's knives,
and there's of nuclear bombs. However,
let's try to go take a step back and try
to kind of redefine things and
understand what this verse that's
telling us that the only one to fear is
God. What is it? What what does it mean?
And how is that true? And how can we
make it a part of our lives? How many
worlds did God make?
How many worlds did he create? Seven.
This is Let's make this an auction. 10,
20, 30. The truth is there's a puk from
King Solomon who knew a lot talks about
that God made infinite worlds and mispa.
We can't count the worlds Hashem made.
We can't count the stars. We also can't
count the worlds he made. Now, when I
say worlds, I mean spiritual worlds,
including the physical. There's only one
physical world which is our world and
that includes the galaxies. Anything
that could be measured is included in
the physical world and beyond the
physical there are spiritual worlds that
don't take up actual physical space but
take up whatever spiritual space is and
uh they are infinite. Now what's the
difference between the spiritual worlds
and this physical world that God made?
One essential difference which we're
going to use, there are many differences
but one essential difference which maybe
is where most of those differences come
from and that is that in in the
spiritual realms above
God doesn't hide. Simple talk, God
doesn't hide. Meaning the divine light
and energy that brings the world into
being. And the idea of the presence of
godliness in the upper worlds is able to
be perceived, seen, felt, however,
whatever terms you want to use. Angels
know there's a God. Angels don't believe
there's a God. Angels know that there's
a God because they they can they can
feel God, the godly presence. In fact,
angels are so aware of God's presence
that angels are spiritual robots. They
don't have free choice. They cannot
choose what they want to do. They just
are and do exactly in accordance with
the will of God. So they are absolutely
nullified to the divine energy and and
the godliness that's revealed in the
upper worlds. And so angels on to
something we don't exist really the way
we do. Certainly not. So that's the
difference. God hides in in this world
and he doesn't hide in the worlds above.
So what's the result of God hiding in
this world? What what the result of God
hiding in this world is we see ourselves
and a world and we don't see God because
we don't see God how he manifests this
world. How he fills this world how he is
the life force and energy of this world.
How he creates this world not once upon
a time on the first few days of
creation. He creates the world right
now. Creation is a constant process that
that comes from God himself every moment
and and moment is not even the right
word to use. And so God is making
everything right now. So obviously God
is in total control of everything all
the time. But since we don't see that
so we we are afraid we can become
afraid. In darkness you can become
afraid. But if we would shine a light in
that darkness, we would realize that
that thing we were afraid of is not what
we thought it was. And ultimately that
there was no real reason to be afraid.
So this discussion is based on this.
We're going to we're going to elaborate
on this.
The rabbis actually criticized there's a
different opinion but the rabbis
criticized Moses Moshe and Jacob Yakov.
The rabbis criticized them for being
afraid. And so what I want to start off
is with them because they were two of
the greatest people that ever lived.
Yakov was the greatest of the
forefathers and Moshe was the greatest
prophet. And between the two of them,
there were moments in their lives that
they were afraid.
When were they afraid? Moshe was afraid
when he found out that Pyro knew that he
killed an Egyptian man. And he
understood and felt that now Parro was
going to want to come and get him. And
he felt afraid. He was he was in danger.
And he was afraid. And the rabbis
criticized him for being afraid. Yakov
was afraid when Asab was coming at him
with 400 men and he it says he was
afraid and they explained a few things.
He did three things. He he he offered
presence. He prayed and he prepared for
to defend himself but he was afraid. Now
why do the rabbis care so much and why
are they troubled and criticized these
two great rabbis for being afraid?
Because the assumption is two people as
exalted as they were on their level of
spirituality and knowledge of reality.
So they were supposed to be living with
so to speak in God's world. They were
supposed to understand and feel and see
God similar to angels and therefore they
shouldn't have been afraid and even they
were afraid. So we have to understand on
a certain level there is reason and
justification to be afraid. if they were
afraid. So certainly we are going have
the we can be afraid but ultimately we
also want to know how to balance the
reality that life is scary with my
ability to to to either not be afraid or
to or to be afraid and how do I deal
with that challenge? That's the real
challenge. Life is scary. No one's going
to say that it's not scary. certainly
wartimes, the threat of of bombs and and
loss of life and and the tragedy that
we've been that we've seen in the past
year and a half and and for all of
creation for all of history. It's very
been very tragic. Ultimately, if you
want to define the story of of the five
almost 6,000 years we've been in this
world, it's a tragic story, but it's
it's a story of life. It's real and it's
a life we wouldn't trade for anything.
We want to be a part of that story as
fearful it is is and as tragic as it can
be because life is ultimately
unbelievable and it's a gift and with
the good and the bad that are in it and
the fear and the happy moments and the
triumphant moments it's just life and
life is unbelievable and we want life as
it comes from God and now we have to
just understand how to balance and face
these fears.
Let's not make the mistake. The
essential mistake that people make,
which really I think is what feeds our
fear is the unknown.
The fact that I don't know
what's around the corner really can
creates even the possibility the
possibility for me to be afraid of
what's ahead. If you're driving down a
road in a dark night and you don't know
what's coming, you don't know what's
ahead of you, you can start to become
afraid because you don't know the
future. You don't know what's coming.
And we know that there are scary things
in the world. So that's that's really
the beginning of where the fear can
start. But if I can tell myself, yeah, I
don't know what's coming, but Hashem
knows what's coming. That might be able
to kind of like counter that fear of the
unknown. I don't have to know
everything. When I get on a plane, okay,
some people are afraid to get on a
plane, but if the person that's not so
afraid to go on a plane, he doesn't know
exactly what's keeping him up in the air
and why he's not falling to the ground
and exploding, but he's but he doesn't
have to know everything. He's he's
comfortable because he knows that that
that it that it it works. And so if I
understand and believe that Hashem is is
is not is only hiding, that's the point.
We started off by saying that in this
world God hides and in the upper world
he doesn't hide. If I understand that
he's only hiding, that means he's here
but hiding. Then I can start to see a
world where where God is with me, that's
how I can begin to to kind of manage
these fears, the scary moments of life.
If we're going to live in a in a world
where we're at war with enemies all
around the world, whether it's on social
media or whether it's, you know, at
work, whether it's with terrorism,
whether it's with war, bombs, we are
dealing with a lot of things to be
afraid of. Yakov was afraid of 400 men
coming at him. We have uh uh billions of
people coming at us right now. Billions
of people in the different ways that
they want to come at us. We have every
reason to be afraid. How do we face
this?
So there's a mistake people make because
I don't know
few mistakes. We'll start with it
because I don't know what's going to
happen and I and there's no guarantee
that I will survive. So I'm afraid that
I won't survive. That's number one.
Number two, let's say I want to convince
myself, listen, I have faith God's going
to take care of me. But there are there
are contradictions to that faith. Why?
because people don't always survive. If
I want to have absolute trust and faith
in God that I am going to be 100% fine,
well, I have neighbors that aren't fine.
Unfortunately, we know that there have
been many soldiers that have died. Ter
terrorists have have have have killed in
Israel over the years.
People are people die. People are
killed. Bad people win and and good
people lose sometimes. So, that con
that's a contradiction. If I have to
have 100% faith in God, well, what about
all the people that that I Hashem didn't
save?
So, how do I how do I face these fears?
So, the answer is this real faith and
real trust is even though I don't know,
it's even though the other guy didn't
survive,
it's it's despite that because trust and
faith is not a guarantee. Trust and
faith doesn't mean I know. It means I'm
holding on to Hashem. I'm holding on to
God and I'm putting myself totally in
his hands. If I trust 100% in God.
That's what I know. I know that Hashem
is 100% with me, 100% for me.
I and I know that Hashem is called Y and
Hashem can do and does any and
everything. That's 100% faith and 100%
trust. Do Am I saying I know what's
going to happen tomorrow? No. Am I
answering why he didn't help the guy
next to the left of me or to the guy to
the right of me? No. Am I saying that
I'm I know that there's a guarantee that
that bullets can't touch me? No.
But I'm saying that I'm Hashem's 100
100% with me and I'm 100% with him,
which means I put my trust in him and my
faith in him totally. Okay. Now, what
did I accomplish with that? What I
accomplished is this.
There's nothing to be afraid of. Number
one, now we could we could tone down
this approach by saying meaning God will
do what he wants with me and I accept
that and therefore I'm not afraid. But
in truth that is a bit of a copout when
it comes to trust. If you tr trust means
to trust. It doesn't mean to maybe
trust. So the minute I put a maybe in my
mindset when it comes to trust I've sold
out a bit. It's not 100%. Call it 80%,
70%, put the bar where you want, but
it's not 100%. So, how do I have a 100%
trust in God even though I don't know
100% if I'm going to survive? I don't
know. We don't know. So, how can I have
100 100% trust if I don't know? The
answer is this. Trust doesn't mean
knowing. Like I said, it means this.
I trust that God will take care of me.
And I trust that God will never do
anything bad to me. And therefore, when
it comes to trust, I trust 100% that he
will save me. Because a God that loves
me and that cares for me and that can
save me in my mind, in my world of
trust, will save me.
Cuz that's what that's what God will do.
Come on. If some if you're if you're
stuck in a pit and there's a strong man
that can lift you up and he's and he and
he and and he loves you and he cares
about you and he's watching you in that
pit. He's not going to leave you in that
pit. He's going to pick you up. And so
in my mind, which we're calling this
world of trust, God will save me. I'm
not saying I know the future. I'm not
saying that I could walk down the most
dangerous street in the world and and no
bullet's going to touch me. But I'm just
saying that before it happens, I'm 100%
trusting in Hashem. Now, there's going
to be we're gonna have to moderate it a
tiny bit because sometimes God
ultimately in this world doesn't save
everyone. And so, I have to have that
balance there. But I have to know that
that doesn't stop me from from from
living my life and trusting and hashem.
And that means in the scariest moments
of life, if I have my trust 100% in
Hashem,
then there's no room for fear. Now, in
the two greatest people that ever lived,
the rabbis want to point out that they
were held accountable for it. We won't
be held accountable for our fears. We're
supposed to be. Unfortunately, we are
afraid and we're going to be afraid. But
there's this place that we can at least
begin to realize exists within a true
person who's who's with Hashem to go
beyond those fears and to face the
moments we're facing right now fearless.
And in fact, that's the only thing we
can do. What can we do to be a part of
these end of times, wars, you know,
apocalypse, whatever you want to call
it. What is our role in this? It's it's
not all Hashem. We're still here and
Hashem wants something from us. So the
one thing we can do, the most powerful
thing we can do, the most important
thing we can do is hold on to Hashem and
trust in Hashem. That itself is a merit
which makes miracles happen.
The the belief that we are going to be
okay is the
is our job and our effort to be partners
with Hashem in making it okay. That's
the most important lesson we have to
learn. We He wants something from us.
When we're squeezed in dark moments of
darkness and and scary moments, it's the
we that we become is what he wants to
see from us. And that is the merit to be
saved. That is in fact the merit to be
saved. It's it's the most important
lesson.
