Dear brothers and sisters, this week we
mourn the passing of Rabbi Ovadia Ysef.
We all want him to be a powerful
advocate for us in heaven. He is a very
powerful defender. He has a lot of power
up in heaven because he did many good
things on earth. I want to ask you, in
order for him to be your defender, you
need to walk in his ways. Do you know
what it means to walk in his ways? He
cared about every single Jewish man and
woman in the people of Israel. His heart
was a big, big loving heart. He cared
about every Jew who was in trouble. If
you and we walk in his ways, he will
stand as a good advocate for us.
Especially this week when he has great
power up in heaven because it is his
hala day. So if there is anyone who can
help another Jew, support another Jew or
strengthen another Jew with any mitzvah
that can be strengthened or even just by
giving charity to a fellow Jew, please
take the opportunity to do so. A video
you saw, send it to another friend, send
it to another friend so that she too
will see and enjoy it. This was the
essence of Maran Rabenua Ysef
strengthening a fellow Jew, bringing
them closer to know there is a father in
heaven. His infinite love for the
creator and the people of Israel is the
beautiful path he bequeathed to us. And
we will strive to walk in his ways. Let
us each recite a chapter of Psalms for
the elevation of his soul. Every one of
us. Whatever chapter you choose, pick
one from the book of Psalms and recite
it. For every action and commandment you
perform for the elevation of his soul,
he will surely pray for you and stand as
a good advocate. Light a small candle
for the soul of Rabbi Yseph, son of
Gorgia.
