Don't Forget, We're Just Passing Through - The Sukkah's Message - Rabbi Yitzchak Botton

[Music] imagine the person on vacation he goes to one of the fancy fancy hotels and around is the most expensive suite in the hotel and it decides after is there one day you know I don't like the way this hotel is furnished I don't like my room so wealthy enough he decides you know I'm here for a couple of weeks a month so I'm gonna bring in someone to change the furniture and he gets carried away a bit he decides he wants to paint the walls even maybe even change the floor so the people that he's instructing and hiring to do this when they find out that he's only staying there for a couple of weeks they're like are you normal you're spending all this time effort and money to fix the hotel room that you're leaving in three weeks that's what message I took out from the sucker you know you're coming in for seven days and then you're leaving no one in their right mind would invest so much effort and focus on the minor physical details that in seven days won't matter and that's actually the life lesson that we take from the sukkah we have to understand that life comes and goes were here for 60 70 years and gone we can spend our life building and amassing things that in the end we don't take with us we leave it behind so in light of this what can we appreciate what is permanent imagine a person has a suit it's an expensive beautiful suit good fabric but matte suits only to cover his body we wouldn't give the suit more concerned and more care than the body a person's going to live an unhealthy life both physically more so spiritually and take care of a suit that's foolish for so - in a deeper sense we have to know that our body and all this physical world is only a place for our neshama to come into and do its part fulfill its purpose this world is only created and prepared for us to come and to do our job here and in the next world we reap the rewards and if we come to this world with a mentality that it's permanent and we invest everything we had all our Colt all our energy all our amazing ideas that Hashem blesses us to have with things that ultimately have no real purpose so then it's a waste of life and a waste of our energies that's the most amazing thing we take out from the circuit turn to the neshamah turn to why we're here in this world turn to what is permanent about this world it's the job that we accomplished in this world not the physical things we'll be a mess similar to the home and a family what's permanent what it could in the family not the furniture not the table but the type of meals and conversations and beautiful relationship that you build for eternity at those tables especially involving Mitzvah filling a shams ruts on in the world is the ultimate purpose it brings purpose to everything that we do to our business to our home life to our personal relationships that is the ultimate that we can accomplish and that's what we're here for [Music]
