once upon a time there were movies that you could actually watch back in the 1950s Ealing Studios produced the series of brilliant comedies each with a moral they were a kind of 90 minutes black-and-white massage moves one of my favorites was a last holiday which starred Alec Guinness obi-wan Kenobi for you millenials Guinness played an unmarried and unassuming salesman who ghosts of the doctor and he's told that he has a rare disease and he has precisely six weeks to live so what does he do he takes out his life savings from the bank and hightails it to the ritziest Hotel on the coast where the glitterati of commerce politics and entertainment are hanging out because he feels he's absolutely nothing to lose he's completely honest with everyone and everyone is drawn to him like a magnet nothing is as attractive as honesty this unassuming salesman becomes a star fated by the Lords of politics and the moguls of Industry at the end of the film it turns out that his x-rays have been mistakenly swapped and he was never ill in the first place over the past few days and weeks many of us have been asking ourselves what if I only have six more weeks to live nothing brings a journey into focus more than the site of its end the fact that we are going to leave this world is inevitable how we will leave it that's up to us will we leave it trying to grab the last morsel of this world or will we leave this world with generosity courage bravery and self-sacrifice that's the most important question in life there shall give us the courage to rise to the occasion and give us long long lives lived as though we only had six more weeks of them to live [Music] you [Music]
