The pasuk in Mishlei says, My son, give Me your heart and your eyes My ways. You know, we want to be connected to Hashem more than anything in the world, because we know that if we are His, He'll do anything we need. But if we say: Ribono shel Olam, we don't really want to be connected to You. We don't necessarily need You. Then the Ribono shel Olam will say: Okay, you don't need Me? Fine, go ahead. Do it on your own. Let's see how you do. And that's a terrifying thought. Could you imagine trying to pay your bills on your own? Could you imagine trying to raise a family on your own? Could you imagine going to war on your own? It's terrifying. We need Hashem in our lives. We need Him to be part of our lives. We need Him to control our lives. And what is the determining factor? What really is that which tells Hashem that we are His? And the answer is this pasuk. Our לב, our heart, that we have to give that to Him and our eyes. If we give our eyes to Him, then we're telling the Ribono shel Olam, We are Yours. Here's our eyes. In other words, by fulfilling the pasuk of not straying after our hearts and our eyes, we're telling the Ribono shel Olam, We are Yours, and we want You to help us with everything that we need. There's a great lady, Mrs. Tendler z”l. Someone who raised a beautiful, large family. The Rebbetzin of R’ Yosef Tendler, who was the Rosh Mechina in Ner Yisroel. She said something very, very beautiful. She said that sometimes a woman would come over to her and she would say: I'm so overwhelmed. I don't know what to do. And I cried out to Hashem: Hashem, help me with my children. Rebbetzin Tendler told her: You have it all wrong. Not ‘Help me with my children.’ Ribono shel Olam, help me with Your children. They're His children. They're His eyes. Ribono shel Olam, help me with Your eyes. And when we realize that, we will get the help we need, and most importantly, we will be connected to HaKadosh Baruch Hu in every way we ever dreamt of.
