Having kids, even when a couple's relationship isn't great

...Even a home where the relationship between husband and wife is less-than-perfect, God forbid; even in a home in which the wife behaves immodestly -- not as God wishes, as He commanded in Torah; even if it went so far that a spouse's fidelity was questioned, and the couple endured the entire procedure that Torah requires in such a case... This is one of the strange responses one hears to the question: "Why don't you accept God's blessings for children and grandchildren?" They search for excuses: the initial excuse is that they must first assure that the relations between husband and wife will be perfect forever. Then they must be confident that the conduct in the home is one hundred percent proper; and only then will they make a "plan" whether to receive God's blessings or not... Torah relates that even in such a home where the relationship is not as it should be, even in such a home which is not perfectly modest, God declares that His greatest blessing, which replaces the embarrassment and suffering of the <i>Sotah</i> -- when she is found to have been faithful -- is that she and her husband are blessed with additional children in the family. This also teaches us that in the homes which God has blessed with marital harmony, and those homes which do follow God's wishes, God brings them additional blessings, <i>true</i> blessings -- true health, both materially and spiritually; they are spared the anxieties and all the emotional difficulties that have arisen in today's world due to various causes, first and foremost, on account of the disregard of Family Purity, as the Midrash states. Every additional child born into such a home is a blessing for the father and mother, for the grandfather and the grandmother, and for the other children already in the home -- the blessing of another brother, another sister. And it is a blessing for the entire Jewish people, wherever they may be.
