jersey shore has been around for 20 plus
years on the average we receive about
1600 calls of which over half are doing
their summer months our hatzala members
are spread out throughout the jersey
shore
we respond to calls from ocean avenue by
pier village area all the way out to
route 35 past asbury park we're here for
you we care for you and we're here to
serve you
[Applause]
pool safety is very very important you
have to make sure that young children
are wearing flotation devices nobody
should be swimming in a pool alone
unsupervised make sure your kids are
being
watched at all times gotta have extra
gates extra safety i urge you if you're
having a gathering of any kind
hire a lifeguard the course of a
lifeguard is a lot cheaper than the
course of a life you gotta have a sign
by your pool with the address of the
house and hatsawa's phone number many
times you're at a friend's house or your
kids are somewhere and god forbid in the
case of an emergency and your mind is
racing you have no idea where you are
and it's important to have that sign
where you just look up you see the
address and right away you can call out
another one people always don't think
about at a pool is choking because kids
are eating a lot they're always having
their snacks their ices their watermelon
so just something to be mindful about
know how to do the heimlich maneuver and
help them out
helmets save lives
i could tell you numerous amounts of
calls that i've been on where helmets
have been cracked numerous around the
kids that got hit by cars whether it's a
scooter whether it's a bicycle wear a
helmet it will save your life our head
is the most important thing in our body
i'm not worried about you falling off
your bike you know how to ride a bike
great you've been riding for 20 years
excellent but i'm worried about the
people driving they're not paying
attention looking at their phone while
they're driving they're texting they
swerve a little bit they hit you you may
break a leg god forbid but
your head is the most important part to
keep safe so
just we have to be smart and wear our
helmets fathers mothers alike with their
children i'll pull you over i made you
stop and say hey stop a second i'll take
a picture with you i'll give you some
money if i see you with a helmet on this
year we'll actually be giving out
helmets in our hatsala carnival pick up
your helmets they're free of charge they
were generously donated by several
families in the community when walking
around at night or riding a bike it is
very important to wear a reflective vest
the streets in the jersey shore are not
the best lighted and it's very difficult
for cars to see motorists and bicyclists
on the road reflective gear you think
it's nothing but our headlights shine
off the reflective vest from 300 400
feet away so you're aware that oh i see
someone riding their bike it's dark and
it's a real dark in the middle of the
summer late at night and the children on
the bicycles are 100 percent not being
able to be seen they have to be wearing
reflectors that's allah has hundreds of
them to give out to people they'll be
giving it out in the carnival they have
them in some of the schools during the
summer as many people put it the
brooklyn people invade the jersey shore
once we get here things go haywire we're
driving we're driving fast we're driving
aggressively
we need to be conscious we need to
follow the rules there's four-way stop
signs we have to follow the lights i
cannot stress how important it is to be
careful and cognizant of the road when
you're driving eyes must be on the road
at all times the roads are windy the
visibility is not always the best and
kids are running out from all different
corners you have to keep your eyes off
your cell phone no texting no phone
calls no distractions and just keep your
eyes on the road when you're driving
here especially in the summer time you
got to be
totally totally aware of everything
around you always remember that the
pedestrians have the right of way when
coming up to a crosswalk or to a stop
sign you see someone waiting to cross
allow them to cross and make sure they
get through safely
i am a firefighter in town
and i do see fires happen pretty often
that could be avoided the summer is a
time where people like to have a little
bit of fun with bonfires barbecues all
different types of gatherings but fire
safety is really important you got to be
careful to keep a good distance from the
flames especially making sure your kids
are safe
keep your face away from it and don't
experiment or play around with lighter
fluid or anything like that
as parents we have to be on top of our
kids and their needs our eyes are their
eyes we have to look out for them
and and make sure they're safe
children's safety when it comes to
hydration is very important because
children don't know how to tell you when
they're thirsty they don't realize that
there need to be drinking water to stay
hydrated
so if you have a two-year-old and you're
playing outside
every time you're taking a drink they
should be drinking and even more so
because they're probably running around
more than you sitting on the bench
watching them they need to be drinking
all the time make sure your skin is
protected at all times apply sunblock
before you leave the house in the
morning reapply throughout the day
especially if you're sweating or gonna
go in the pool
we have six ambulances
located at six different locations
throughout the shore and six of our main
synagogues this way we can properly and
completely cover our areas in the
quickest amount of time i urge every
community member when you're going to a
simcha or when you're going to pray in
shul please don't block the ambulances
there have been many many times that a
member will come to pick up an ambulance
in a life-saving event
and the ambulance is completely blocked
in we have to call for backup we have to
get another ambulance from a different
area it could take another two or three
minutes
every second counts don't let a tragedy
happen
if there's any time of need or any
emergency there's no emergency too big
or too small pick up the phone dial the
number
732-531-9988
and within seconds you will have someone
by your door on behalf of hatsalov the
jersey shore i'd like to wish everyone a
happy healthy and safe summer please pay
attention to these videos that we've put
out take those precautions that we've
discussed
and god willing bezzat hashem will all
enjoy another beautiful summer together
