[Music] we see so many people on bicycles scooters electric scooters skateboards electric skateboards whenever you purchase one of those toys gifts make sure that that has a secondary component a helmet i can only stress helmets have to be worn by everybody by the children by the adults and everyone in between helmets absolutely can save you from having to go to the hospital getting a concussion stitches i've been on so many calls that could have been prevented if a helmet was worn by having your helmet on your head it can be the difference between an open fracture to your skull or just a little scratch on your nose i can't tell you the numerous amount of coals that we've been on where a child has hit a bump in their sidewalk and went flying into a uh a corner brick on the floor and practically crack their skulls or an adult just hitting a pothole in this on a scooter and falling literally two feet in front of a moving car that could have god forbid run them over kids have to know there are traffic laws you can't fly through red lights you have to stop for stop signs and you can be doing 40 miles an hour very recently i've been on a call when i responded to a 15 year old that was hit by a scooter or car winnington kid was unresponsive unconscious uh got him to the hospital we were with the family and we were sitting in the er with the mother of the child and the mother was crying my mother was saying to helen didn't know what to do didn't know what it turned to the kid wouldn't wake up fast forward about ten hours later i was on another call about three four in the morning and i went to check on that child to see how the kid was doing and unfortunately the kid was still not responsive he was unconscious they went for testing no immediate surgery and it's just not a situation where anyone wants to find themselves so i made sure that i always wear a helmet when i was on my scooter it was february 24th and i was on my way home from my great uncle's arayat in charizard and i was driving down east 5th street and i had my helmet on i was driving down his fifth i hit a pothole i remember the bang of the the the scooter and the next thing i knew i was on the floor so i called my wife she came to pick me up when i got home we saw the crack straight through the whole entire helmet if i didn't have that helmet on i definitely would not be here today it's now been five years since i had my accident and i only walk now i'll drive my car but mainly i walk wherever i need to go and i'm much happier walking because these scooters are very very dangerous my kids don't even my kids know that they're not even allowed to ask me to buy an electric scooter and any electric anything i myself ride a bike a lot about five years ago i was riding upstate i was doing about 20 miles an hour i hit a pebble i don't remember what happened all i know is i was unconscious for about an hour i was bruised from head to toe i got about 40 stitches on my forehead i believe if i was not wearing a helmet i wouldn't be talking to you today i beg of you never leave without a helmet bought a scooter april 2019 i bought a good one that you know was 28 29 miles an hour i was riding home from nightsader one night it was all of three seconds four seconds but what felt like i know 30 seconds a minute whatever it's really slow motion i took a hit slammed to the ground on my head on my elbow 28 29 mile an hour hit straight into the ground thank god i got a little i was conscious enough to call my parents i'm cool donny karatem one of my closest friends f234 he was on the scene in minutes my helmet saved my life thank god i have a crack i was wearing my helmet i can't tell you how many times i've had where i've picked up patients and they have a cracked helmet and literally i remember one distinctly where the helmet was literally cracked in half in two pieces and if that child was not wearing that helmet you know god forbid it would have been his head um which is a lot harder to fix than a helmet obviously so you know wearing a helmet is key with these things as far as you're going out for a ride for a block a two i only tell you statistics show most car accidents are within two three blocks of your house bicycle accidents are not any different even if you're going around the block put on the helmet it could save your life i beg every single parent every single child every single father a mother grandparent grandfather or grandmother that's watching the video to please every single child of yours or grandchild yours make sure they wear their helmets fooling and not having your head protected is different between a real hospital stay and just a doctor's visit i can't stress it enough wearing a helmet is just as important for an adult as it is for a child plain and simple
