So, we have the Seder BeChabura
in Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh.
Not just Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh, but
in the Churva shul,
whose legacy as being part of the issue
of
of Eretz Yisrael,
which was chazak in the air very much in
the 18th century, and then in the 19th
century into the 20th and 21st century,
played such a a prominent role.
So, I think it's kedai to start now with
the first of the seder, which will be
several rate bites over the course of
the nesiah, just to talk a little bit
about Yerushalayim bizman hazeh, talk a
little bit about the Makom HaMikdash
bizman hazeh.
The Rambam in Hilchos Melachim Perek
Aleph Halacha Aleph says, "Shalosh
mitzvos nistavu Yisrael bishas knisasam
la'aretz."
The Yidden were commanded to do three
mitzvos when they entered Eretz Yisrael.
"Limnos lahem melech." To appoint a
king. "Shenemar, "Som tasim alecha
melech."
"Ulaha'achris zera Amalek." And to get
rid of all of the
offspring of Amalek. "Shenemar, "Timcheh
es zecher Amalek." And finally,
"Velivnos lahem Beis HaBechira." And to
build a Beis HaMikdash. "Shenemar,
"Veshichanti besocham."
"Uvasu sham."
So, the Rambam, quoting a Gemara in
Maseches Sanhedrin daf chof amud beis,
says that when the Yidden entered Eretz
Yisrael, they were commanded to do three
mitzvos. Number one, appoint a king.
Number two, destroy any offspring of
Amalek. And number three, to build a
Beis HaMikdash. As it relates to "Livnos
lahem Beis HaBechira," asks the Rambam,
"What's the makor?" It's a pasuk in the
Torah. It's in Parshas Re'eh. "Shenemar,
"Veshichanti besocham." "Uvasu sham."
But, the Chacham Mishnah
of Fenar asks a kasha
from another Rambam. A stira in the
Rambam. The Rambam in the beginning of
Hilchos Beis HaBechira Perek Aleph
Halacha Aleph says, "Mitzvas asei
la'asos bayis laHashem." There's a
mitzvas asei to build a house for
Hakadosh Baruch Hu. "Muchan lihiyos
makrivim bo korbanos." It should be
prepared for a place that Yidden should
be able to bring the
for a place that Yidden should be able
to bring korbanos. "Vechol Yisrael
ya'alu lishalosh pa'amim bashanah." And
also, we Yidden should be able to go and
be
al regel three times a year. "Shenemar,
"Va'asu li mikdash veshachanti
besocham."
The Rambam in the beginning of Hilchos
Beis HaBechira also discusses the
mitzvah to build a Beis HaMikdash.
"Mitzvas asei la'asos bayis muchan
laHashem."
Rambam gives two descriptions of what
the tachlis, what the ta'alus of a Beis
HaMikdash is. Number one, "Lihyos
makrivim bo korbanos." Number two,
"Vechol Yisrael ya'alu lishalosh pa'amim
bashanah." But, the Rambam here quotes a
different source. The Rambam quotes the
pasuk that we all know, the pasuk in
Parshas Terumah. It says, "Va'asu li
mikdash veshachanti besocham." And the
Chacham Mishnah will have a stira in the
Rambam. In Perek Aleph Halacha Aleph in
Hilchos Melachim, the Rambam says,
"What's the makor that Yidden had a
chiyuv to build a Beis HaBechira?"
"Shenemar, "Veshichanti besocham."
And in Perek Aleph Halacha Aleph in
Hilchos Beis HaBechira, the Rambam says,
"What's the makor that there's a mitzvas
asei la'asos bayis laHashem?" Because it
says, "Va'asu li mikdash." "Vechol
Yisrael." The Rambam seems to be
bringing two independent makoros for the
same mitzvah in the eyes of the Chacham
Mishnah. This was a kushya atzumah.
"Vetzarech iyun," says the Chacham
Mishnah. "Vechol Yisrael stira in the
Rambam." The Chacham Mishnah tries to
give a little bit of an eitzah. I saw
there are Zalm and Even HaEzel has a
little bit of a pilpul to try to give a
little bit of an eitzah.
But, it could be
that
there's a mahalach that we could say.
And maybe it's even emes.
And maybe it's even poshut.
That is,
it's interesting,
but if you go through
the Torah,
like we're actually doing now the
Chabura, holding in Parshas Vayishlach,
it's interesting to note that the city
of Yerushalayim is never mentioned.
The Makom HaMikdash is never mentioned.
In fact, the closest thing that there is
to a mention, a reference to
Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh is in Parshas
Lech Lecha, where the Torah says,
"Umalki Tzedek Melech Shalem." And the
Targum Onkelos says, "Malkah
diYerushalayim."
Shalem as in a reference to
Yerushalayim. But, this city of
Yerushalayim
is never mentioned in the Torah. If you
think about it, it's a pella.
Yerushalayim, which plays such a central
role in Yiddishkeit. There's so many
dinei d'Oraisa and dinei d'Rabbanan that
relate to Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh, and
of course to the Makom HaMikdash, and
it's not even mentioned in the Torah.
What does this even mean? Truth is,
if you go through the psukim, and really
starting from Parshas Re'eh Perek Yud
Beis, the Torah says again and again and
again and again and again and again,
more than 20 times, that the Yidden,
when you're going to enter Eretz
Yisrael, there's going to be a place,
says Hakadosh Baruch Hu, that I'm going
to choose. And that place that I'm going
to choose is going to be a holy place.
There's going to be a city that's going
to be a holy city, and within that city,
there's going to be a place that's going
to be the holiest place within that
city. And there's going to be many
different halachos that are going to
relate to the city, and then even more
halachos that are going to relate to the
place in that city. Just to bring the
point. The pasuk says that the ovdei
avodah zarah, they make avodah zarahs,
and they build their getchkes wherever
they want. Says the Torah, "Lo sa'asun
kein laHashem Elokeichem." When it comes
to the Eibershter, you can't just go
ahead and pop up a mizbei'ach and decide
that you want to offer up korbanos
wherever it is. "Ki im el hamakom asher
yivchar Hashem Elokeichem mikol
shivteichem." But rather, you know where
you as a Yid are going to have to bring
your korbanos. You're going to have to
bring them to the place that Hakadosh
Baruch Hu in the future is going to
choose. From all the different shvatim,
Reuven, Shimon, Levi, Yehudah,
Yissachar, Zevulun, the Eibershter is
going to pick the chelek of one of these
shvatim that's going to be the chosen
place, literally, and it's over there
that you're going to go. "Veshichanti
besocham." That's where you're going to
bring your korbanos. "Es olosichem
veshivcheichem."
"Es ma'asrosichem." "Es terumas
yadchem." "Vinidreihem."
"Vinidvosichem." "Uvecheiros karcheichem
vetzeonchem." "Veachaltem sham lifnei
Hashem Elokeichem." "Usamachtem bechol
mishlach yadchem atem uvateichem asher
berachacha Hashem Elokecha." "Lo sa'asun
kechol asher anachnu oisim hayom." "Ish
kol hayashar be'einav." You know, you
can't do that. No. You're going to have
to go and bring all these korbanos
where? In the place that in the future
I'm going to choose. Skipping a few
psukim. "Vihaya hamakom asher yivchar
Hashem Elokeichem bo leshakein shmo
sham." It's going to be in the place
that Hakadosh Baruch Hu is going to
choose to rest His Shechinah. "Shama
ta'viu." It's over there that you're
going to bring. "Es olosichem
veshivcheichem." "O lo seichem."
"Vezivcheichem." "Ma'asrosichem."
"Uterumas yadchem." "Vechol nidreihem."
"Asher tidru laHashem." I'm skipping
again. "Ish kol hayashar be'einav." "O
lo seichem." "Bechol makom asher tish."
Be careful when you come to Eretz
Yisrael, don't just bring olos wherever
you want. "Ki im bamokom asher yivchar
Hashem." Hashem is going to choose a
place, and that place that the
Eibershter is going to choose, it's over
there. "Shamtah lo olosichem." This
"Shamtah kol asher anochi metzavecha."
Is another pasuk. "Lo sucha lisharecha."
"Ma'aser degoncha vetiroshcha."
You can't just go ahead and eat ma'aser
sheini wherever you want. "Uvecheiros
karcheichem vetzeonchem." "Uchol
nidreihem." "Vechol
nedavosichem." "Asher tidru laHashem."
"Ki im lifnei Hashem Elokeichem."
"Tochleinu." "Bamokom asher yivchar
Hashem."
There's a place that Hakadosh Baruch Hu
is going to choose, and it's over there.
"Tochleinu." It's over there that you're
going to go ahead and you're going to be
able to eat it. "Atem uvitechem."
The Torah goes on again and again and
again. Says halachos that we know are
neged Yerushalayim. Says halachos that
we know are neged the Makom HaMikdash.
But, the Torah never mentions
Yerushalayim and the Makom HaMikdash by
name. The Torah says, "I'm leaving you
with suspense. I'm not telling you.
You're going to have to wait." You have
to wait. Suspense. You're going to find
out. You're going to enter Eretz
Yisrael. I'm going to choose a place,
and it's going to be in that place that
all the halachos that we know about, all
the halachos that we learn about every
single day right now in Daf Yomi, all
those halachos are are going to be
neged. Right? Think about some of the
psukim we know. "Shalosh pa'amim
bashanah yera'eh kol zchurecha." "Es
penei Ha'adon Hashem where?" "Bamokom
asher yivchar." Right? Doesn't say
Yerushalayim. It says "Bamokom asher
yivchar." It's always "Bamokom asher
yivchar." Go further. In Parshas
Shoftim, where the Torah talks about the
zaken mamrei. The zaken mamrei goes up
to the Makom HaMikdash, and he's a
mamrei. Right? He goes connect to the
Beis Din HaGadol, and the Torah says,
"Lo sa'aseh va'asisa." Where did he go?
"Vekamta ve'alisa el hamakom asher
yivchar Hashem." Torah doesn't mention
it by name. There's no mention of
Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh anywhere in the
Torah. There's no mention of the Makom
HaMikdash anywhere in the Torah. Torah
literally leaves us hanging. Torah says,
"You're going to go into Eretz Yisrael,
and when you're going to go into Eretz
Yisrael, Hakadosh Baruch Hu says, "I'm
going to choose a place. And when I
choose a place,
that place is going to involve a city,
and then a Makom Kodesh within
that city."
So, when was Yerushalayim chosen?
When was it chosen? When did the Yidden
figure out that
the place is Yerushalayim, and within
Yerushalayim, it's the Har HaBayis. It's
the Har HaMoriah. When did that place
have a sign in the Torah?
Where is it? When did it take place? So,
for that, all you have to know all is a
little bit of Nach. And really, it's the
very, very last episode in Sefer Shmuel.
It's in Shmuel Beis.
Very, very end. It's Perek Chof Daled.
Perek Chof Daled begins, "Vayosef Af
Hashem lachros biYisrael." Hakadosh
Baruch Hu continued to get angry at Klal
Yisrael.
Rashi says, "Lo yadati al mah." Not sure
exactly what's going on. Rashi HaKodesh.
Not sure. I'm not sure. But, Hakadosh
Baruch Hu got very, very angry. "Vayosef
Af Hashem lachros biYisrael." "Vayosef
es David bo leimor, "Lech menei es
Yisrael ve'es Yehudah." because there
was this
had this impetus. He had this feeling
that the right thing to do is to go
ahead and to count the Yidden. So, we're
all familiar with Dovid Hamelech
counting the Yidden, which of course is
not something that a Yid is ever
supposed to do. Machsa Shekel, Rashi in
the beginning of Parshas Ki Sisa, Dovid
Hamelech infamously counted Klal
Yisrael. This what happened. It happens
in the very very end of of Shmuel Bais.
And the pasuk says "Vayomer Hamelech el
Yoav." So, the Melech, Dovid Hamelech,
goes to his Sar HaChail, Yoav, and he
says "Shut na b'chol shivtei Yisrael. I
want you to go wander amongst all the
Jews miDan v'ad Beer Sheva, from sea to
shining sea, u'fikdu es ha'am. And I
want you to count the folk v'yeda'ati es
mispar am."
And when you do that, I'm going to know
how
how many Yidden are there. Yoav tries
putting up a fight. Yoav says "Lama
chofetz adoni hamelech b'davar hazeh?"
Dovid, you know that's not a good idea.
"Vayech tzav Hamelech el Yoav
v'el sarei hachail." But Dovid Hamelech
says "No, I want you to go ahead, I want
you to count the Yidden." Nu, so Yoav
had no choice. "Vayeitze Yoav usarei
hachail lifnei Hamelech lifkod es ha'am
es Yisrael." He went out to count the
Yidden. And the pasuk says "Vaya'avru es
Yarden vayachnu b'Aroer yemin ha'ir
asher b'toch hanachal Gad v'el Ya'azer.
Vayavou el ha'Gilgal vayeitzei'u el
ha'aretz." They literally went
everywhere. Every single place that
there were Yidden living, it didn't
matter where it was, they went and they
counted. And then finally, I'm skipping
several psukim, "Vayiten Yoav es mispar
ha'am el Hamelech." Yoav comes with a
census, he delivers it to the king.
"V'Yisrael, how many Yidden were there?
Shmoneh me'os elef
ish chayil sholech cherev." 800,000
ish chayil that were literally yielding
swords. "V'ish Yehudah chamesh me'os
elef ish." And then ish Yehudah,
500,000. The pasuk says
"Vayach leiv Dovid oso acharei kein
safar es ha'am." As soon as Dovid
Hamelech got the census, then
somehow and for some reason,
he decided maybe this was not such a
good idea. Yoav tried talking him out of
it, but he went right there anyways. But
at this point, he realized this was a
mistake. "Vayomer Dovid el Hashem." And
Dovid turns to Hakadosh Baruch Hu, he
says "Chatasi me'od asher asiti." I
sinned terribly. "V'atah Hashem,
ha'aveir na es avon avdecha." Please
forgive me. "Ki hishkalti me'od." I act
very I acted very very foolishly.
"Vayakam Dovid baboker." The pasuk says
Dovid Hamelech woke up in the morning
"u'dvar Hashem hayah el Gad HaNavi
chozeh Dovid leimor." And Hakadosh
Baruch Hu revealed himself to Gad
HaNavi, who was the chozeh of Dovid, he
was Dovid's like private prophet, and he
tells Gad, "I have a message I want you
to deliver to Dovid." "Haloch v'dibarta
el Dovid." Go talk to Dovid Hamelech and
you should tell him "Koh amar Hashem."
So says Hakadosh Baruch Hu, "Shalosh
anochi notein l'cha."
I'm going to give you an onish and I'm
going to give you three options to
choose from. So this onish involves
multiple choice. You get to pick which
onish you want. "B'char l'cha achas
mehem v'eifalah." You pick the one that
you want and whatever it is, that's what
I'm going to do. "Vayavo Gad el Dovid
vayageid lo." So, Gad comes to Dovid
Hamelech and he says I have some bad
news. The bad news is that what you did
was a terrible terrible mistake. There
was some chareinaf in the world and now
Dovid Hamelech, he was mosif on the
chareinaf by counting Klal Yisrael and
because of that you're going to be
punished. That's the bad news. The good
news is, at the very least you get to
pick your poison so to speak. You get to
decide what onish you're going to want.
"Vayomer elav." Then Gad talks. He says
"Asurenu l'cha sheva shanim b'artzecha."
If you want, you can pick seven years of
hunger. "Im shlosha chodashim l'nuscha
lifnei oyvecha v'hu raidefcha." If you
want, you could also have to run away
from your enemies for three months.
That's also an option. "O may yish
shlosha yamim dever b'artzecha." Or
there could be a mageifa that's going to
last three days. So what do you want?
You want seven years of hunger? You want
to be on the run for three months? Or do
you want three days of a mageifa? "Ata
daber el adoni hamelech davar." I have
to deliver the message. Think about it
for a minute. I'm going to come back to
you. I have to return to Hakadosh Baruch
Hu. I have to tell him what you want.
The pasuk says, and we all know this
pasuk, "Vayomer Dovid el Gad." Dovid
turns to Gad, he says "Tzar li me'od.
Nipola na b'yad Hashem ki rav rachamav
u'v'yad adam al apolah." What was Dovid
Hamelech saying? He said I would rather
the onish that's going to be totally
Hakadosh Baruch Hu. "U'v'yad adam al
apolah." He said I don't want to be
totally b'yad adam. Cherev and rav,
that's b'yad adam. Dever, that's kol
kulah b'yad Hakadosh Baruch Hu. So you
want to know what I want? I want that
there should be a dever. That's what he
chooses. He says "I know that ki rav
rachamav." And if my onish is going to
come directly from Hakadosh Baruch Hu,
then at the very least there's going to
be a midas rachamim. "O v'yad adam, man
I don't trust. Al apolah, that's not
something I want." "Vayiten Hashem dever
b'Yisrael." And as soon as Dovid
Hamelech chose dever, Hakadosh Baruch Hu
immediately brought a dever. "May
haboker v'ad eis moed." From the boker
until the time that the dever was
supposed to last. "Vayamas min ha'am
miDan v'ad Beer Sheva shiv'im elef ish."
70,000 Yidden died as a result of this.
"Vayishlach Yado Hamalach Yerushalayim."
Then Hakadosh Baruch Hu sends a malach
to Yerushalayim "l'shachasah" to destroy
it. "V'einacham Hashem al ha'ra'ah." And
as the malach is about to destroy the
city of Yerushalayim, all of a sudden
Hakadosh Baruch Hu has a little bit of
regret so to speak. "V'einacham Hashem
al ha'ra'ah." "Vayomer el Hamalach
Hamashchis ba'am rav, ad hena heraf
yadecha." Stop. "UMalach Hashem hayah
b'Goren Aravnah HaYevusi." Where was the
malach at
when he was going to go destroy
Yerushalayim? He was in Goren HaAravnah
HaYevusi. He was on the top of the
field, the gishaft of a man whose name
was Aravnah, who was a Jebusite. He was
a a Yevusi. "Vayeimer Dovid el Hashem
b'ro'so es Hamalach Hamakbeh." Dovid
Hamelech saw the malach standing by the
Goren of Aravnah HaYevusi. So Dovid
Hamelech turns to Hakadosh Baruch Hu.
"Vayomer ki hinei anochi chatasi
v'anochi he'eveti. V'eilah hatzon ma
asu? Tino yadcha vi u'v'veis avi." You
know, you're letting out all the anger
on all the Yidden. I didn't realize
70,000 Yidden already died. You know
what? I'm the one that made a mistake.
Take it out on me. I deserve to bear the
punishment of Klal Yisrael. Why should
everybody
have to suffer? Says the very very next
pasuk. "Vayavo Gad el Dovid vayomer lo."
All of a sudden, namash as Dovid
Hamelech has this hergesh, he sees this
malach on the top of the Goren of
Aravnah HaYevusi, he gets another visit
from his private chozeh, from Gad.
"Vayomer elav." And he told him "Alei
hakem l'Hashem mizbei'ach b'Goren
Aravnah HaYevusi." I want you to go and
I want you to erect a mizbei'ach on the
Goren, right here, of Aravnah HaYevusi.
Dovid says "Sure." "Vayal Dovid kidvar
Gad ka'asher tzivah Hashem." "Vayashkeif
Aravnah." Aravnah looks at "Vayar es
Hamelech v'es avadav over elav." All of
I mean Aravnah sounds like a gvir, he
owned acres of property. All of a sudden
the king is coming with an entourage and
he can't believe it. Like what did I do?
Am I in trouble? What's happening?
"Vayeitze Aravnah." Aravnah runs out.
"Vayishtachu l'Hamelech apayim artzah."
And he gives him tremendous kavod, he
bows down to him. "Vayomer Aravnah el
Hamelech." "Madua ba adoni hamelech el
avdo?" He says "Why are you coming to
me?" "Vayomer Dovid." Dovid said "Liknos
me'imcha es hagoren." I want to buy your
goren.
You want to buy my goren? Is that what
you want? You want to buy my goren? You
own half the real estate in this
country. What do you need my goren?
"Livnos mizbei'ach l'Hashem." Because I
need to build a mizbei'ach because I was
told by God that if I build a
mizbei'ach, it wasn't the first in the
pasuk, but if I build a mizbei'ach,
"v'te'atzar hamageifa me'al ha'am."
70,000 people died. You know what's
going on, right? Everybody's
quarantining right now. If I build a
mizbei'ach right here on your goren, I
was told by the navi that's going to end
the mageifa. "Vayomer Aravnah el Dovid."
Aravnah hears that. He says "Meshugah,
we got to sit down with lawyers now,
we're going to write a contract? Just
take it." "Yikach adoni hamelech es avdo
v'ya'as hatov b'einav." And not just
that, you need animals, right? Just take
all my animals. "V'es ha'eitzim v'es
habakar l'eitzim." Here's the eitzim.
What else do you need? Take "hakol nasan
Aravnah l'Hamelech." He said you can
have everything. "Vayomer Aravnah el
Hamelech." Aravnah told the king "Hashem
Elokecha yirtzecha."
Hashem should be with you, you can take
whatever you want. "Vayomer Hamelech el
Aravnah, lo ki choneh echaneh l'Hashem
Elokecha asher lo alah li b'machir." But
I alah l'Hashem Elokecha olos u'shlamim.
I'm not going to go ahead and bring olos
on a piece of property that I got for
free. "Vayiken Dovid es hagoren v'es
habakar." And the pasuk says that Dovid
went ahead and he bought this property
"b'chessef shkalim chamishim." "Vayiven
sham Dovid mizbei'ach l'Hashem." And
Dovid Hamelech went and he built a
mizbei'ach there. "Vaya'al olos
u'shlamim." He brought olos u'shlamim.
"Vaye'aser Hashem l'aretz." Hakadosh
Baruch Hu answered the tefilos of Dovid.
"Vate'atzar hamageifa me'al Yisrael."
Chazak chazak u'nis'chazeik. This is the
way save for Shmuel Bais.
Says Chazal,
and really it's mefurash b'psukim in
Divrei HaYamim,
that it was at this second when Hakadosh
Baruch Hu came to Dovid Hamelech and he
told him I want you to buy the Goren of
Aravnah HaYevusi, that this promise that
Hakadosh Baruch Hu made more than 20
times in Sefer Devarim played itself out
l'ma'aseh. This is when the Makom
Hamikdash was chosen. Until then, it
could have been anywhere.
Didn't have to be Yerushalayim. Maybe it
would have been Chevron. Maybe it would
have been Meron Tzfas. It could have
been anywhere.
In Yerushalayim? I don't know. It could
have been anywhere in Yerushalayim, too.
But it was at this second when God tells
Dovid "Alei hakem l'Hashem mizbei'ach
b'Goren Aravnah HaYevusi," this is where
it played itself out. That it's the city
of where the Goren of Aravnah HaYevusi
was that would be the Makom Hamikdash
in terms of shtad and it's that Makom
mamash that would be the Makom Hamikdash
Yifcha.
As it relates to where exactly the Makom
Hamikdash would be.
The truth is, to appreciate this even
more,
in Sefer Yehoshua, when the Yidden enter
Eretz Yisrael and they conquer the land
for the first time, there's a few psukim
tucked away that so tucked away that
even if you learn Sefer Yehoshua,
it's very easy to miss. The very end
perek tes vov, the possuk says "That's
how Yevusi Yoshev Yerushalayim lo yochlu
bnei Yehuda l'rishah." When the Yidden
entered the land in the times of Yeshua
bin Nun and they're going through
shattle after shattle, they're killing
king after king, the Yevusi who had a
strong hold in Yerushalayim, they
weren't able to knock out. "Va'Yeshev
ha'Yevusi es bnei Yehuda b'Yerushalayim
ad ha'yom ha'zeh." The Yidden weren't
even living in Yerushalayim until that
story. When Dovid ha'Melech is told by
God, "Go to
the goiren of Arvana ha'Yevusi." Where
is that? In In Yerushalayim? In
Jerusalem?
The Yidden are living already a few
hundred years in Eretz Canaan. "Ad
ha'yom ha'zeh." They had not conquered
that city. It wasn't even on the radar
b'chlall, let alone being the chosen
place. They couldn't because the Yevusi
the Yoshev Yerushalayim, they were too
strong. "Lo yochlu bnei Yehuda
l'rishah." This was an unbelievable
chiddush. But Dovid ha'Melech was told,
"Yeah, that city Yerushalayim, which has
been completely neglected, that even
Yeshua bin Nun
with the nissim and the floods wasn't
able to conquer, I'm telling you that's
the mizbei'ach that you're supposed to
go to because it's in that city and on
that place in that city
that's the chosen
nation. I just want to
bring out this point. Let's drop that
for a minute.
From the second year that the Yidden
were in the midbar,
the Yidden already had a mishkan, right?
They had a place where they could bring
korbanos. They had a place that they
could be oleh regel. Even though the
Ramban in a few places in the spiritual
Torah has a soffek if there was a
mitzvah of oleh regel in the mishkan,
but that really aside, they had a a
place where they can come and appear
before Hakadosh Baruch Hu.
All the laws of zvachim and minachos,
they all applied. They all applied. They
didn't have Yerushalayim.
They didn't have the Makom ha'Mikdash.
They didn't have that Makom Asher
Yivchar that the Torah references more
than 20 times in Sefer Devarim. Just to
map it out a little bit better.
We know that the first Beis ha'Mikdash
stood for 410 years. The second Beis
ha'Mikdash stood for 420 years. The
Yidden had a mishkan for how many years?
For 479 years.
39 years in the midbar, 14 years
in Gilgal, that's where the mishkan was
immediately when they entered Eretz
Canaan, then it was in Shiloh, hashtag
tomorrow's ray, for 369
years, then it was in Nov and Givon for
another 56 years. So, in total, it was
479 years that the Yidden had a mishkan.
It was afterwards that ha'Melech
went and he built the Beis ha'Mikdash
which immediately follows this ma'aseh
over here in Shmuel Beis and then
there's a Beis Rishon, goes bubble for
70 years, and then there's a Beis
Sheini, and then let's hope one day
there's going to be a Beis Shlishi
b'korovi mamash. But the point is is
that the Yidden had a place where they
can do all the avodahs. They had a place
where they could bring korbanos. They
had a place where they could be chiyuv
by Hakadosh Baruch Hu. What they didn't
have yet was the Makom Asher Yivchar.
And the question then begs itself,
what's unique then about the Makom Asher
Yivchar?
It has to be that there's something
unique, right? Because
you have a mishkan now, it's traveling
with you, al pi Hashem yachanu v'al pi
Hashem yisa'u, it's all over the place,
right? All the men days masois in the
midbar, and then it's in Gilgal, then
it's in Shiloh, and then it's in Nov,
and then it's in Givon. But the Torah
keeps on saying that there's going to be
a place where there's going to be a
Makom Asher Yivchar, and somehow that's
going to be different. After the Torah
mentions it [clears throat] over and
over and over again, and that place that
was chosen was chosen with such drama in
the end of Shmuel Beis, it has to be
that "Lo ro'i zeh k'ro'i zeh." Atzas
ha'Shabbos b'Yad, they're places of
ashiras ha'Shechinah. But it's clear
that this Makom Asher Yivchar Hashem is
different than mishkan because all the
places that the mishkan was in wasn't in
the Makom Asher Yivchar Hashem. It was a
place that the Yidden had sort of gone
with the flow and chosen that that's
where they're going to be. But then
there's this one place and Hashem says,
"I'm going to choose that that's the
place I want it to be. Once it's there,
in Eretz Yisrael ha'kodesh, right?
That's where it's always going to have
to be. There's no such thing as a
mishkan popping up after that. So,
what's the difference between mishkan
which was with it together with the
Yidden for 479 years, and then mikdash
which is in Yerushalayim ha'kodesh
that's in the Har ha'Bayis.
I found in my remark of Nefla that to me
is a a game changer in terms of
understanding Makom ha'Mikdash, in terms
of understanding where we're going now,
ad b'lo ad b'chlall, right? And that's
in the Alshich ha'kodesh
in parshas Va'Eschanan. If you have the
new Alshich, they cross reference the
different places where the Alshich says
this b'kitzur, but I'm reading from
parshas Va'Eschanan. The Alshich
ha'kodesh says as follows. He says the
idea of a mishkan, the idea of a mikdash
is a place for Hakadosh Baruch Hu to be
mashreh Shechinah with Klal Yisrael.
We're living over here in a a world of
of hester panim. But there's a mussak of
Shechinah b'tachtonim. Where Hashem says
that I'm going to take the Shechinah and
I'm going to be together with you. But
says the Alshich that when the Yidden
had a mishkan, the gedar of the mishkan
was
we live b'tachtonim and Hakadosh Baruch
Hu says, "I'm willing to come and be
your guest.
If you let me into your house, if you
make a place for me to come, then
"V'nayadti eschem me'Eretz Kena'an
l'Kodesh." I'll come. I'll be with you.
I'll be mashreh Shechinah. And I'll be
mashreh Shechinah on such an incredibly
deep, complex level that "V'chol adam lo
yireh ba'hem mayim." There'll be a
parsha of Tumos Mikdash v'Kodesh.
There'll be an Azarah. There'll be an
Heichal. There'll be Al Lifnei v'Lifnim.
Hashem says, "I'm willing to come and be
your guest." It's a chiddush from
ha'Zoch that there's an idea of
Shechinah b'tachtonim that Hashem says,
"I'll come. I'll be your guest." But
says the Alshich, then David writes in
the Torah that there's going to be a
day, I'm not telling you when,
and I'm not telling you where, but
there's going to be a day and there's
going to be a time and there's going to
be a place where I'm going to tell you
go ahead and build me my own house, and
then you'll be able to come visit me
in my house. I'm not going to be
visiting your house. You're going to be
visiting my house.
And that's going to be on a whole
different level. The mishkan says the
Alshich was the Hashem coming and
checking into our hotel, so to speak.
Being an orei'ach b'yos. It's kavod.
It's michayev dinim. The whole seder
kodshim comes from that. But then says
the Hashem there's going to be a time
and place where I'm going to ask you to
build my house, and then when we're
together, when we're convening, I'm not
a guest in your house. You're going to
be a guest in my house. And my house has
already a whole different inyan. That's
a whole different madreiga of kedusha.
That's a whole different beginah. That's
a whole different beginah. The Alshich
ha'kodesh says that Yirmiyahu ha'navi
said at the time of the churban, he
said, "Mi yiteneni b'midbar malon
orchim."
He says, "I wish I wish it would have
been like when we were in the midbar
where I WAS A GUEST." ZOGT DER ALSHICH,
"because when the Yidden were in the
midbar, if the Hashem wanted to sever
his tie with Klal Yisrael, so what was
Hashem to do? I'm checking out,
ask my bill, I check out, I pay the
fees, and I leave. But that's good if
Hashem is a guest by us. But now in
Eretz Yisrael, you're a guest by me. I
can't leave. I can't leave. And it's for
that reason says the Alshich, "Eish al
Yoshev Badad Ayirah Basi Yom Hoiser
Kamonah." Because the Hashem says, "I
can't leave. So, if I can't leave, who
has to leave?" Klal Yisrael has to
leave. And that's why "Golsei Yehuda
Me'oyni." And that's why Klal Yisrael
had to leave. And Hashem is like an
amonah waiting for her husband to come
back one day. But Hashem can't leave
anymore. And Hashem at the time of the
churban said, "Mi yiteneni b'midbar
malon orchim." Halivai, I would have
been a guest by you because I wouldn't
have to throw you out of my land. I
would just be able to leave. But I can't
just leave. I can't just leave. And the
reason is because this is my house. And
being that this is my house, it's for
that reason I have to be here. I have to
be here. If we need to sever our
relationship, if we need to sever our
tie, well, then it's you. You're the one
that's going to have to leave.
But al kol panim,
al kol panim, it's m'vuar. And we're
just getting started. This is part one
b'ezras Hashem. Part two, part three,
part four, part five is going to come.
But
what is emerges from here is that really
within the world of mishkan and within
the world of mikdash, there were two
dinim, two fundamentally different
dinim. There was a tkufah of 479 years
where the Hashem said, "I'm a guest by
Klal Yisrael."
"Mi yiteneni b'midbar malon orchim." And
it was Shechinah b'tachtonim. And it was
michayev all the dinim of seder kodshim.
But then the Hashem kept on saying
there's going to be a day. There's going
to be a day when I'm going to ask you to
do something else. Not just to build a
bayis where I can come now and check
into your hotel, where you can host me,
where I can be a guest for the weekend
and then leave. There's going to be a
time where I'm going to ask you to build
my house, and it's going to be "Ki
veisi." It's going to be the house of
Hakadosh Baruch Hu, and you're going to
come and you're going to come to me.
I think it's poshut, these are the two
Rambams. The Rambam says in Hilchos Beis
ha'Bechirah, "Mitzvas aseh la'asos bayis
la'Hashem." There's a mitzvas aseh for
you to build a bayis la'Hashem. What's
the purpose? "L'hayos makrivin bo es
korbanos v'chayavin l'eilos sholosh
p'amim ba'shanah." "She'ne'emar, "V'asu
li mikdash."" That mitzvah was chalah
immediately. The Yidden got the Torah,
they had a mitzvah of "V'asu li
mikdash." "V'shachanti b'socham." That's
a mitzvah they got that second. Build a
place where there could be a Shechinah
b'tachtonim, where you could be m'kayem
terumah u'ma'aser, where you could have
seder kodshim, where you could bring
zvachim and minachos, you could bring a
chatas or if you ever sinned, you could
bring all the dinim that we're learning
about right now. And that mitzvah was
chalah miyad. And we were m'kayem that
mitzvah for 479 years. Over then zogt
der Rambam in Hilchos Melachim that
there's another mitzvah. And this
mitzvah is shall we mix this with this
which means
we're going to come to this road there's
going to be a new mitzvah. You know what
that is? Number one
number two
the live base of
and to go ahead and put the base what do
you mean? I THOUGHT THAT'S FOR US TO mix
this with this one.
For us to mix this with this one
that's to have a place that can come
with you. A place where your guest with
the with the that's
a mitzvah. The same with this
one.
But there's a gag of gag and that is
says there's going to be a time and
place that's only in this road. It's the
how many times do I have to say that
it's staring us in the eye. There'll be
a time and if you know a little bit of
you know exactly when it took place in
the end of base where says I'm going to
choose the place. And that's going to be
a new mitzvah because as soon as you
know where it is the
there and only there.
The mitzvah is to have a mitzvah. The
mitzvah is
is to be that mitzvah.
I
think if you look at the
mitzvah
in
the says I say
by us
in the
says what's the third of the three
mitzvahs? Live base of
in the
base of ironically the mitzvah is by us
a base build a base build a
39 years in the midbar 14 years in
369 years in
and then it's going to be a given.
That's not the mitzvah.
That's a place that's a mitzvah. That's
a different thing. The
base of why the switch from base of to
base of
the mitzvah.
Here we're talking about building that
what's the difference? Oh it's very very
different. The base of is build a house
that the can come to. Make a
and a and a it's going to be a place
that can come. It says this is what your
house This is what the guest room has to
look like if you want me to be your
guest. This is why I need the
refrigerator. This is how it has to be
stocked otherwise I can't come to you.
That's a mitzvah. That's a mitzvah.
That's a mitzvah.
That's
the base of
that is a whole different
that's already a whole different I think
it's
I think it's and maybe even
that that's these two
but
this is part one is a little bit later
we're going to learn part two.
