hi this is dodolowski and welcome to the
rubbery elastic show
whoever you are watching or listening we
are happy
to have you along once again for the
experience
uh we we've been doing a series in
perkier house
of which there are six crockett
now is a little tricky
because purchase is actually messages
and uh it's um it's really only five
broken
the sixth parrick is a collection of
bryces which is known as para kenyanya
torah which talks about the importance
of torah
and uh it was added in pashas it was
added in so that there are six
prak him for you to be able to learn
during the weeks in between pesach and
trust
but it's uh become part of piccadillas
it's interesting peric
in that a lot of them before shim
certainly among them shown them don't
even
have a parish on it they did not
recognize this as being part of mesefa's
others
so uh you really you really need to
uh to be my iron into the parrot to be
able to get there
correctly so we
are going to do a mishna or i should say
bryce
from the six pair of pikabos today
and with that we will have finished one
line from each of the six prakkin
needless to say i could go back and
take another line and do another six and
another line
and another line i could do this for
years
maybe i will i don't know somebody said
to me i guess
it takes a lot of time to prepare for
your podcast and i say no
i used to sit down and
my producer michael would set everything
up and i'd say so
what do you think i should talk about
uh it uh it often uh
is on the spur of the moment so okay
when i do a series
i talk about seminaries or i talk about
shidduchim so i have to actually
plan out and advance more or less what
i'm going to talk about
but uh like this i a little open up the
parrot and i say what should i talk
about
choose one line one line out of an
entire pair of pair gamuts which is not
really difficult
but before we go any further we have a
very special sponsor
this week and that is
the torah newsletter torah suites
if uh you are not subscribed
uh it'll be in the little notes at the
bottom
but if you want to go get a pen and jot
it down
[Music]
you want to send
an email to torah
sweets t-o-r-a-h-s-w-e-e-t-s
at gmail.com or you can go to
torahsweets.com
for free get a copy of this
unbelievably engaging newsletter
on the parsha it also has articles
from major abundant it has
halal aspects to it it's it's just a lot
of fun trust me i have a lot of trouble
reading things
those of you who have sent me emails and
uh i have not answered them yet
uh it's no reflection on you it's just
you know it's the add
to concentrate but i have to say that
every barsha
article always opens with the most
fascinating joke
i consider myself a bit of a connoisseur
when it comes to these things that i
really i've stolen them uh laugh out
loud
yeah the torah i have to admit that he
often quotes me
because the author mendel berlin was a
talmud of mine
in orsamer a close dear friend
he holds the distinction of being
the only person who managed to
impersonate me in a purge field
you know first feels i've mentioned this
in the past that i think they're
extremely important because they let you
uh say things that need to be said
in a way that needs to be said and uh
um that you can't normally say unless
you're
you're doing something like that i i've
listened i've mentioned in the past the
kickers you know because the
the the carefuls because they're comic
strip they can say a lot of things that
we live action people can't
as i pointed out in the past i am in
fact a
cartoon character rabbi sitter in the
torah live
videos uh so uh i know what it is
to have an alter ego who's
an animation so uh
so i've seen different people
impersonate me over the years i'm really
hard down to get down because uh
to capture that refined long island
accent that i have
not easy not an easy thing to do but uh
but in any event
um so uh so mental to me in the uh
uh foreign play i still quote his
impersonation of me to this day
so but uh this is
a lot of fun it's a lot of fun
um
[Music]
it's been around for a decade 10 years
i don't know i have to take you full
disclosure online i don't know if you
can get all
of the past newsletters but
they're on the pirates right now a lot
of these things don't really get old
so you can pick up some of the ones in
the past and
they're just as meaningful and enjoyable
as the ones that are coming out today
it's a lot of work trust me it's a lot
of work
and uh you should really look into it
he's actually putting together a book i
mean 10 years
but newsletters a tremendous amount of
material and
he's coming out with a book and uh
if you subscribe to the newsletter
and mention that you heard about it on
the ravioli show
you'll be entered for a drawing to win a
free copy of the book
so you can't really do better than that
my gosh the newsletter is free
and you may get a free book on top of it
and what can i tell you
the best things in life
[Music]
god does for free we do for free what a
wonderful thing that is
um it's an interesting thing that
every now and then wonderful people like
mendel agree to sponsor this
but uh the truth is i started this
there was talk at the beginning of
having a subscription
and things like that and i felt
that if i have an opportunity to be
marvin steuger
and so what if my prognosis gone down
the drain
by the way we are considering corporate
uh advertisements so if you are a
corporation
uh and you wanna you know
advertise your product uh
we will consider we will consider it
here on the rebel
ascii show
anyway it was to say i'll do my
commercials with the same level of
enthusiasm but
anyway so uh subscribe to the newsletter
there's a lot of wonderful things in
there a lot of quotes from me
uh great jokes fascinating stories
thought provoking and uh anyone who
uh subscribes she gets the newsletter
quickly becomes uh hooked
on it so uh taurus sweets because that's
really what it is it makes torah sweet
okay so the sixth pair compared to this
action-packed
action-packed i'm gonna go to the end
i'm gonna go to the end yeah sometimes i
take the first
uh i'm gonna go all the way to the end
everything that god made in the world
that he made only
for his cover
created the world he created for his own
cover
that's a problem does it
need anything infinite
doesn't need you to serve him doesn't
need you to
davin doesn't need you to eat a matzo
from his point of view really doesn't
bother him if he
uh if you eat a ham sandwich he doesn't
have emotions
he's remarkably stable it doesn't go
through mood swings
it's all part of being infinite
so i mean he created the world for his
cover
we're coming down so it's hello rosh
hashanah time
so uh i'll throw in this idea as well
we say on rosh hashanah what is our
voted to be
to make hashem king
now the messel sasha
and his first beginning of the first
parakeet says
why did hashem create us this is
[Music]
why did god create us and put in this
world to get the greatest possible
pleasure
which is the spiritual pleasure of being
close that goddess
he didn't create us to serve him he
didn't create us to take care of him
he's fine
he could always create some malachi but
he doesn't need anything that's that's
the idea of being infinite you have no
needs you have no wants
the only thing we can say is hashem
chose to create the world says the
messiles asham
why for us to get the greatest possible
pleasure
so what do you mean hashem created the
world for his covert
what do you mean that we have to be
mamlekh and make him
king
hashem put us in this world and he gave
us free choice
and he made it clear that he wants us to
use that
choice to come close to him
because if you want to have a meaningful
relationship you have to choose it
relationships that are wished upon us
they don't tend to be as meaningful
that's why
i have asked this question to audiences
all around the world
from all religious backgrounds and all
ages i always ask this question
who tends to love who more
do children love parents more or do
parents love children more
and every audience has told me the same
thing
parents love children more why
because every kid knows they have that
line i never asked to be born
that's true you really couldn't have
asked to be born could you
who are you going to talk to yeah
but parents chose
to have children and because they chose
to have these children
there had an advantage in a relationship
because they chose the relationship
the relationship that's wished upon you
like your parents
you have very little say in it so it's
interesting when parents become older
and become more dependent on their
children
very often the relationship changes
because now
kids feel that they have a role to play
in the relationship
they're not just forced into a
relationship
so krishna who created the world for us
to get the greatest pleasure which is
what
his hashem to get pleasure from hashem
from this relationship with hashem
but in order to have that relationship
you have to choose it
so he puts you in this world and he
gives you things
that you can choose to do or not to do
completely up to you
you can choose to follow hashem or
choose not to follow hashem
there'll be no lightning bolt that comes
down
what's alam haber is enjoying the
relationship with hashem
what's gehenna sensing the distance from
hashem
that you created by choosing not to work
on this relationship
so in order for us to build a
relationship we have mitzvos
mitzvos are relationship building tools
in every relationship there's i have
to's
there are expectations so kurzberg who
puts us in this world
and gives us bits first and says this is
what i would like you to do
i'm always amazed i hear this from
people sometimes what they say
i'll serve a college barbecue how i
think
no one's going to tell me what to do
i'll come close to god however i think
you understand how absolutely ridiculous
that statement is
your wife says to you oh i would really
like
you know flowers and to go out uh for
dinner
for my birthday and the husband says
don't you
tell me how to make you happy i'll tell
you how i'll make you
happy i'm going to take you on a very
very
long walk on a very hot day
at the end i'll buy you a drink
and i'll buy you a blender she says but
i don't want to blend them
don't you tell me i'll decide
what you want so you understand it's
just ridiculous
now coach barbara says this is what i
want you to do and a person is going to
say they're going to bronco no you don't
i'll tell you it's ridiculous
so he sets up mitzvos and he says this
is what i would like you to do now you
don't have to do it
you could choose to ignore me you could
choose not to
do what i've asked you to do
but then there's not going to be a
relationship
okay now because marco could
theoretically just put us in this world
and say dig a hole and fill it up
so you're doing it because it's russian
hashem and hashem i asked you to but at
the end of the day
you know you've done nothing meaningful
so coach barco created a world where you
have free will and because you have free
will
in this world
there are two things that hashem cannot
do for real not
ilu in this world
in this world where there are beings who
have free choice
there are two things he can't do
he can't make himself king and he can't
give himself honor
what does that mean there's a difference
between a melech
and a motion shows a ruler
when saddam hussein how did he become
the head of uh iraq
he called the leaders of all the parties
in for an important meeting
and he shot them all
i'm in charge
in communist countries there's only one
candidate
you could either vote for him yeah or
you could
well the other lever and a little pellet
will fall out of the machine
into a little a little pan underneath
[Music]
there's no choice no choice
but here a melech is only
ruled by the will of the people
as was explained so well
in that documentary on the subject
that came out i guess was 30 years ago
maybe 40 years ago
called monty python and the holy grail
so king arthur says i am author king of
the britons
and this peasant says who are the
britons
he says we are all britain's and i am
your king
i said how did you become king
the lady of the lake clad in the most
simmering sapphires
brought forth from the water excalibur
thereby signifying by divine command
that i am your king
and he says look strange women living in
ponds distributing swords
is no basis for a system of government
supreme executive command can only come
from a mandate from the masses
not from some farcical aquatic ceremony
i mean if i said that i should be king
because some moistened woman threw a
seminar at me they'd lock me up
that's really true pulling a sword out
of a
rock might be pretty dramatic but that
does not make you a miller
america only rules for the consent of
the ruled
you could be emotional you could be a
dictator
but in order to be king people have to
decide that you are a king
they have to accept you as king
and you can't make yourself
a king you can make yourself a ruler
emotional you can't make yourself a king
melech below um
what's the minimum amount you need for
its seaboard good
so count in the other phase all of these
gimbal dollar
[Music]
what are the three letters that come to
meet you in the other direction
the king needs a people to accept him
well you're not a king
that's what you need if you want to
become a king be a melech
hashem can't make himself king you have
to make him king he can run the world he
can do whatever he wants
but you have free will
the same thing with covet you understand
if you give yourself
covered it doesn't really mean much
so you get an invitation in the mail
harry rabinowitz being honored at a
dinner
oh who's honoring him harrier benowitz
he's making his own dinner says harry
why should i pay some organization to
give me a black i can make my own black
say he rented a hall and he uh
making a dinner and he lined up people
to make speeches about how wonderful he
is
and then he'll present himself with an
award
shapiro tells the story that you know
sometimes when an important person is
coming
they take an ad out in one of the from
newspapers here in israel i read
here the lion is coming
it's signed you know they tell me dove
shell
whoever it is one time it came out the
guy took out the head himself
if you give yourself covered it doesn't
mean anything
a kozmoko created a world where he gave
you free will
which means
you can so to speak
spit god in his face khashoggi
i use that lushen because that's what
rashi says by miriam
he says if a child spits his father in
the face shouldn't he stay
outside for a week let miami stay
outside for a week
miriam had no intention of doing such a
thing
but when i give kavo to hakuras
the bishop shapiro said once what do i
mean by
free will should i have vanilla or
chocolate ice cream
he says a cat has that level of free
will should i jump around in this
garbage can or that garbage can
free will is only one thing
am i going to sublimate my will to
hakunas
or not am i going to do what i want or
what a coach borrow who wants i may have
told this
over once the only time i heard that
moshe shapiro say this phrase
he said i'm going to tell you something
and it's hard to hear
there's a lot of things he said that
were hard to hear but he said it about
this and he said it twice
[Music]
let your heart turn away
and you serve other gods and bow down to
them
about the most
[Music]
so that seems like there's only two
choices serve god with all your heart
with all your soul
or bow down to a voter zone
instead of moshe there's nothing in the
middle
and he said again listen closely because
it's very hard to hear
either god is god 100 or he's not god at
all
because if i say to god you're a god
you run the world torah in mitzvos
but this i'm going to keep for myself
this i'll do what i want
god can't be god 99 he has to be god 100
or he's not god at all you're god i just
decided to allow you to have 99
of my will but that's only because i
chose it
it's either a hundred percent or it's
nothing
when we say we're going to give a
kurdish borrower who covered
that means that we're going to give him
the one thing that we have in this world
that he doesn't have
which is our will
so when he says when we say in
pekie of us everything that hashem
created he created only for his covert
it doesn't mean for his covert it means
he wants to give us the reward
that we deserve by doing something real
i'll be doing something silly
doing something i don't need
you ask somebody to wash the dishes and
then you wash them over again
they didn't do anything they know they
didn't do anything
you ask a little kid oh the kid wants to
help he said okay fold the laundry but
you know he doesn't know how to fold the
laundry so you fold it over again
afterwards so the kid did nothing
you could fool him into thinking he did
something but in real terms he did
nothing
means he puts you in this world to do
something
for real to give hashem covered
to give your will to a kurdish
brotherhood you don't have to
do what you want
and as much as you decide
i don't want
to get my will
and that's it you have not fulfilled the
purpose of creation
at the end of your life when you get up
to the next world
you don't have a relationship with a
coach borrow because i only gave you
what i felt like giving you
let me give you a real cupboard
and then give you what's what's the
episode
[Music]
is heavy zul is light
zalzel's leaves that blow around
it's not important to me
so when you talk about getting covered
you understand that that's it the only
thing in this world is a conspiracy
and odd milivadai
i think i told this story recently
and so i apologize for beating
i went to a racial shapiro after the
twin towers went down
anybody would listen he said this is
goku mogum
this is it this is the end it's time for
us to get ourselves together
so at the time i was teaching in north
smash i said okay well you know these
guys come in and they
don't really know anything and we slowly
ease them into a total lifestyle so
should i tell them listen
uh that's that's done now okay we're at
the end of time
it's uh fish or cut bait okay
you're gonna have to come from like
right now
and he gave me a look like he would give
me from time to time
some people he would scream at them
never me
somebody observed once they said you
know it's amazing but misha
always is so nice to you why is that i
said because he knows that
you know i i'm i'm just a little baby
and if he screams at me
i won't get upset i'll just die i
literally died before
so he gave me a look i didn't say
anything and as i was leaving he says
[Music]
certainly we have to keep doing what
we're doing
i'm doing that up here ain't no
mother there is nothing in the world
but hashem it's a mindset
it's an approach that we have to have
that's the key to everything the brisker
of and you know the briskers are not
really into kabbalah
but the brisk arrived when he had to
escape from the nazis
he knew that as long as he concentrated
on in odmandova
they couldn't harm him
and there are different stories of
miraculous things that took place
ain't no melovando there's nothing in
the world but it goes borough
and if you recognize that and you give
him that covert and you make him the
melech
then you have something that you did in
this world so to speak for a kurdish
borough
that he can't do for himself he can't
give himself covered he can't make
himself the king only you can
ain't no levante and even if i may fall
short in other areas
up here i can always keep that thought
in my head
there's nothing in this world but i
couldn't borrow
amazing concept i've mentioned this in
the past
and had a laboratory said it's possible
for a guy
to sit and learn in color a whole day
and never once think about it
it's possible for people to dive in and
not think about it
i always say that i say let's pretend
that he really exists
sometimes from people say to me i know
god exists i just don't believe it
and there he is oh my god i mean that's
you
who'd you think you were diving into i
nobody really i i never thought about it
there he is
travisia chamberlain negdy donut he's
really there he's for real
and so by giving my roots on overtakers
that doesn't mean we're not going to
make mistakes we're not going to fall
short
but it's up here
i live my life in this world to give
cover to our
not for anything else
represent hello told the story
her daughter was teaching someplace
and one of the teachers was expecting
and her first child was born with many
many disabilities
physical handicaps and things
and so one of the other teachers and the
show of empathy
said aren't you afraid this baby is
going to be sick also
the women looked at her and said they're
not my children they're hashem's
children
and whatever he gives me i'm going to
take
it's not about me i'm here to do rats
and hashem
me to give coventry
i'm here to take the children that he
gives me and raise them the best way
that i can
life's not fair
if you haven't figured that out yet you
must be one of my younger listeners
life's not fair
otherwise i'd be like six foot two
muscular i'm going to bump you up
i remember everything wouldn't have any
learning disabilities
yeah i'd have a couple of billion
dollars
life's not fair some people get the
money some people get the brains
some people get the looks
some people like me get that acerbic
personnel
that's the line that mendel used to do
that that he did in the farms feel that
in my house we still quote was the way
i was giving a share and i'm telling joe
etc and then
somebody like says yeah isn't that like
whatever it is
i gotta i am you think i like getting
interrupted in the middle of a sentence
now i've mastered that not everybody has
somebody was at my house with shabbos
and they said you know my name
in german means iron man
no meant like goldsmith
like a goldsmith you know iron man was
that
but you know me of course
he says my name in german means iron man
i said really
because arlovski and polish means
captain america
he said really i said no
[Laughter]
i felt bad afterwards but so my son
he says someone asked me how did you
learn to get so sarcastic and i said
i went to sarcasm school and they said
really i said no
all right every one of us has our own
abilities life's not
fair you play the hand you dealt
doesn't make a difference
superman can fly burn things with his
eyes
he's invulnerable batman is a psychopath
who dresses up like a bat
he obviously snapped when he saw his
parents you know killed in front of him
and he just became insane yeah you have
to be crazy just look at that
throw batarangs at people
and that's it it would be nice to be
nice if uh
if life went differently but you
you have to handle whatever comes your
way
it's not about me take everything that
i'm given
and be
he's my king
give him cover give him your rude son
when i do then i've done something truly
meaningful in this world and that's the
last mission i'm picking up is
because that's the summation everything
that hashem made in this world
is for us to use it to give him covert
so that at the
end we can turn around and say i gave
her
something real my red zone my
will and i sublimated it
and that's it for this time my friends
if you want to find out more about the
