Abraham sends his servant Elezar [music] to find a suitable match for his son Isaac. He returns with the righteous Rebecca and her and Isaac are soon married, happily living the next chapter of God's plan to make us a nation. >> Wait just one second. >> Abraham sends his servant Eleazar to find the perfect match. And he returns so soon with the perfect match. How do you pull that off? I mean, tell me the trick. Actually, most of the Torah portion is describing Elezar's journey and experience in searching for a wife for Isaac. When Eleazar reached the place in which he was instructed to look for a wife for Isaac, he sent up a prayer to God and said, "Please grant me success in my mission and show me the right girl." And the Torah tells us that before he even finished praying, before he even finished speaking to God, Rebecca came out before him. Whoa. How'd he pull that off? How does he get his prayers answered so fast? Imagine we have our prayers answered immediately. Thank you. The sages of the midrash teach us that there were three people who had their prayers answered immediately in a very vividly clear manner. One of them was Elazar, a servant of Abraham. The other two were Moses and King Solomon. Why were these three people answered clearly and immediately? Well, because when they prayed to God, there was no need for God to stick the answer in an envelope, find some stamps, and mail it out to be delivered within a week. There was no need to get a cardboard box, print the shipping label, and ship it to their location cuz they lived at the same address. There was no interruption between their prayer and response from God. These people were totally one with God. Their connection was so strong, revealed, and consistent. They were so united. They were one entity with God that all it took was for them to verbalize their request. And bam, instant response. And by Elazar in this week's portion, even before he finished verbalizing, the Reb explains that this is because of the significance of Isaac and Rebecca's marriage. Isaac coming from holy parents and a holy home signifies the Torah, while Rebecca coming from home where there was idol worship signifies the world and its lies. Their marriage signifies God's plan in creation and in giving us the Torah. that in areas of our life which are plain, dull, physical and mundane, parts of life which don't seem so holy, this is where God wants his Torah. In the regular life of every Jew, the sublime spirituality of Torah should marry a Jew's physical life have to wait for full bars on their phone service or UPS or FedEx to deliver the answer from God. They had it direct, not just direct, they had it instantly. We too can have this and do have this, but sometimes the connection is not so good from our side. So, we should check with our service providers and see if everything's really all connected. [music] >> [singing] [music]
