hey fellowship it's sunday morning i'm
in
granbury texas and this is where we
spent shabbat right here on this lake
in this beautiful place behind me
and
i have a meeting this morning so i'm
pre-recording this message
um because exactly as the fellowship
goes live i won't be available i know
that teji will be taking my place
but what started in iowa with just a few
sparks and families that came together
from iowa from wisconsin just a small
group that spent shabbat together
then we went to colorado and the fire
got a little bit bigger
and then this shabbat it was just
like the fire is spreading
we had such a beautiful shabbat here um
this is just like to try to give you a
taste of what it was like before shabbat
i think there might have been 50 people
there
and so look at this clip
[Music]
and so here we are celebrating shabbat
together and people are coming
on friday and some had to leave and then
some people came on shabbat morning and
then throughout the afternoon until
saturday night we were up
just
um meeting each other learning together
talking together i think dela gave a
three-hour session
on shabbat afternoon she's like
unbelievable
and
it finally hit me like what we're doing
here in the united states because when i
first came here i didn't know exactly
what we were doing i was like what are
we doing here
and it really became clear to me
over this shabbat
and as these sparks are being lit and
fires are being set
you know
it really feels as though in some ways
we are building hashem in the world
we're building god's kingdom in this
world
and on the arugude farm it's obvious
because we're just actually with rocks
and trees and vineyards building this
window in
to the messianic era what would it look
like if mashiach was already here how
would the jewish people live with a
flock of sheep and each family have
under their vineyard and under their fig
tree and
trying to really build that vision
of the future today
most places in israel you go and visit
the past so you visit archaeological
sites and old synagogues and old places
and museums
and the arugula farm it's almost like
you're going to a place and you're
touching and entering into the future
but what really makes
sense to me now
is that
the knowledge of god will cover the
world like water covers the sea
and the capital is in israel the capital
is in jerusalem but god's kingdom is
going to reign all over earth and it
seems as though there's going to be
small pockets of people that are
lighting fires and god's kingdom is a
kingdom of light
and all these people that are dedicated
to working together to bring light into
the world
with all of this darkness that's around
us
you know it's what we're trying to do
we're trying to bring the
trying to bring the redemption what
better thing could we do with our lives
and here we are
each person
in their own way trying to build it and
who knows what just a small group of
zealous people
that are
just
courageously trying to do the impossible
how far that might take us
and i think that's what the torah
portion of pinchas that we read here
over shabbat teaches us
that's where the covenant of peace is
people are going to have to look at us
and be like whoa
those people are radical those people
are not in the mainstream those people
are not toeing the line of mainstream
society
and it seems that one of these breaking
points
these forks in a road
are shabbat
people that are celebrating shabbat
people that are transcending
because light you can't capture it it's
like almost a spiritual reality it
lights up the physical reality you can't
really hold on to light
and it's something that transcends
and these people are we're all sort of
transcending to the next level it's like
beyond religion beyond theology beyond
education beyond upbringing it's just
sensing
what's good what's true what's godly in
the world what are his ways in the world
how do we walk in his path
and all of us coming together
sort of transcending what has brought us
to this place
and going a little bit beyond it
and in that place
we meet a new era a new a new dimension
a new time in history
and slowly but surely it seems like all
over the world our fellowship has have
these little builders
and we're just slowly chipping away
building and building and building more
and more light
and
i just
can't imagine of anything that i would
rather do with my life
and then meeting all of these fellowship
members that have all come together from
all over
to me it's pretty clear
that we're having this amazing event on
the arugude farm
we need to do
an international conference at some
point where we bring
everyone together as best as we can
maybe one in europe maybe one in the
united states
and
keep on gathering
keep on building
and so have a beautiful week a beautiful
morning here from cranberry texas
and i'll see you guys soon shalom okay
that's beautiful and now i think we have
tahila
live
tila is that true hey ari
hey hey everybody
we're here at the beautiful home of
ann and john stacy in granberry texas
and we have
our
some of our oldest and
most um
uh dedicated fellowship members here
behind me
uh uh tara and nancy who have been with
us ari you know how long they've been
with us from like the very beginning
before that long before the fellowship
was even a twinkle in anybody's eye
and
ed and julie who
for the second year in a row have made
the trek from
broken arrow oklahoma all the way down
to granberry texas to come be with us
and we had a wonderful shabbat together
uh but i just wanna first of all give a
moment for the
lady and the legend
and stacy who if you don't know her you
should know her because she is the
untiring force behind endless israel
projects and her home is
called the blessing for good reason
because she is a blessing to anybody
coming through who's working for israel
or for
any kind of jewish torah
judean cause and so i just want to let
anne say a couple of words about shabbat
we are so grateful
to her for organizing everything out of
thin air so and
well two weeks ago i i heard ardell
brodie
uh
talking about the shabbat from iowa
and
that they had like a retreat and i
thought this was just it was 14 days ago
i thought well we could do that we could
do that and so i called to gila jeremy
and says could i have
could i could i invite eight states
and to my amazement we had people come
from kansas and we had people come from
oklahoma
and we had other people call from
different places and say i would like to
come it's a short notice but i can't
and you know i just want to say this
this shabbat time
i felt like that you know you see
uh
documentaries or or stories on the news
of people that were separated at earth
and never knew each other and then they
found each other 50 60 70 80 years later
and that's exactly what i feel like is a
family
that has come together
like i mean
it was unbelievable
so
um
where are
this time i'm going to give more notice
and i'm going to look for a retreat
that people can bring their rvs
and we'll have a hotel someplace and
we'll have a
shabbat fight none other in texas
and if anne says that that's going to
happen when ari and jeremy said i said i
don't know maybe maybe not we'll see
what happens when anne says something's
going to happen you better believe it's
going to happen because she is a
powerhouse
uh like i've never met before
so so thank you and i'll just say a few
words because i'm a short time i know
are you have a lot to talk about but i
just i'll say a couple of things no
don't make it short because of me tehela
don't oh i'm making it short because
you're taking responsibility for this r
you're taking responsibility for me only
saying a few words so
so uh you know on shabbat jeremy and i
it's interesting we've only done these
shabbat this is our third fellowship
shabbat that we've done but little by
little we're starting to develop a
routine of traditions and jeremy pours
his little heart out all morning long in
the prayers and in the torah uh portion
and then we eat lunch and he goes
el ari we live we live we're neighbors
so you know what happens to jeremy after
lunch even when he's not pouring his
heart out all morning long he goes clunk
and it doesn't matter who's there
he goes clunk so i uh have the privilege
of uh shepherding the flock on shabbat
afternoons and i seem to get a second
wound so
what's interesting was that uh this
shabbat afternoon
i didn't prepare anything and something
that really struck me was that i don't
know if we've talked about this uh on
the fellowship but uh jewish torah study
is different i think than uh pretty much
any other religion because if you go to
any jewish house of prayer
the main way that people study
is through what's called havruta
through a dialectic learning where
people put their minds together to study
and i would say if you would go to a a
yeshiva you know a house of study even
with the greatest rabbi i mean the the
top top tier rabbi they probably have
the 80 20 rule where 80 is learning on
your own and 20 is the rabbi lecturing
and teaching and i think that's so
interesting because even if you're in a
yeshiva with the greatest rabbi
you first have to
butt heads together and try to figure
things out so what we did on shabbat
afternoon was just had a haruta learning
from the prophets and we were learning
from the book of kings one in chapter 19
with elijah and i didn't prepare
anything we were just reading it out
together and the beautiful thing was
that just people sharing ideas and you
know one person sharing an experience or
an understanding or something they read
and it all kind of came together uh into
uh three hours as jeremy said i think
something along the lines of three hours
of just
hashing out the words of the prophets
together and i just want to mention
because it's it's we didn't read this
hawk tour uh this week because of the
the three weeks leading up to the ninth
of ab we read uh the prophecies of
destruction but the sages did set this
as the hafthora for pencil when you
study pinholes the sages are saying
there's something here that you need to
be learning this week so this was the
portion that we decided to study and in
this portion
elijah
has just had his shining prophetic
moment where he
destroys in his showdown he destroys the
ba'al he shows that the ba'al is
worthless hashem is god everyone screams
out hashem the lord is our god and
i mean every prophet has been waiting
for this moment right he just slaughters
the prophets of the baal and you think
he's going to be doing great right and
then what happens i'm in chapter 19 in
first kings the most shocking thing
happens
he starts going to ahab and he's
probably thinking well now now i've
proven myself you know i've proven that
god is the king the one god of israel
and i think everyone's going to start
you know they're going to hire me to be
the chief rabbi of the kingdom of israel
and what happens
is
oh yeah
we're gonna kill you
and then he runs away
and now the translation here is so
off because the translation says
when he saw the danger he arose and fled
for his life
but that's not actually what the hebrew
says
the hebrew says
in verse 3 it says
he got up it doesn't say he ran away
from danger he went up and he went
to his soul
and you know it got me thinking
because what happened he should have
been in his shining moment there were
all of these miracles but then he saw
the corruption of the government
jezebel and ahab's corruption and he
became so despondent that he just went
out into the wilderness he said okay i'm
just going to go after my own soul
he's just going to go and connect with
hashem you know on his own terms quietly
and separate from the rest of society
and hashem comes to him and hashem sends
an angel to bring him food he says you
have a long way to go you have a lot
more to do because you have to go
appoint this king and you have to go
appoint alicia and you have to go you
have a lot of work left to do in the
world and it really spoke to me as a
message that i know a lot of us both in
israel and outside of israel
are dealing with this feeling like you
know sometimes i say to myself why
couldn't we have miracles like elijah
had
why doesn't hashem come out of the sky
and do and then i remember oh yeah
didn't we just have
1948 and 1967
we had miracles hashem did miracles for
us but when do we get despondent just
like elijah we start to give up when we
see oh the government oh the leadership
oh the politics everything is so corrupt
and i know that so many of us get this
feeling like okay you know it's just us
elijah says
it's only me
it's only me in the world that that that
is zealous for you and hashem says no
hashem in the end of the chapter he says
there are seven thousand other people
that have not bent down their knee to
the ball hashem says to elijah you think
you're alone
but there are other believers and if you
guys band together you can still make a
difference even with the corruption in
the government and even with
the the the the leadership that has so
many problems believers can pull
together
and make a difference you have to go
back and engage and i know that for many
of us many people that we're meeting
here on the fellowship say i'm i'm the
only person in my community who's like
this i'm the only person in my family
who's like this and i think that we can
all draw strength and i recommend
everybody just go back and read this
chapter again to see that hashem sends
an angel to give you sustenance and he
says to elijah there are more believers
you guys can go connect go find elisha
go find the other believers and by
pulling together you'll draw strength
from one another and we don't have the
privilege of going and leaving just to
be with our own souls no matter how hard
it is it's our imperative in this world
to go
and we can find one more soul and
convince you know speak to them one more
person and inspire them one more family
and draw them closer to torah or hashem
that is what hashem
is
putting on us as a responsibility to do
and so that's just something that kind
of came out of our
our torah study in the afternoon and i
know that uh i know that a lot of us who
have that feeling are drawing strength
from this fellowship in the same way and
finding one another so
that's just a little
a little a little tidbit a tiny tidbit
of the three hours of study that we had
together and i wanted to share with you
guys
