From Prep to Performance at the 24Six Talent Show (Behind the Music)

What is going on fans of Blue Melody? You are watching vlog number [music] three. It is Thursday afternoon. We're two days away from the Grand 246 season 2 finale and awards ceremony. [music] Now that's going to be Saturday night in Carterette, New Jersey. And there's a lot of really special things going on. If you're not aware, 246, the premiier Jewish music streaming platform, is having this huge talent show competition. There were a thousand entries of boys. They narrowed it down to four finalists. In addition to that, there are a whole slew of guest performers and Blue Melody has been tasked with providing all the background music and the prep as well as an opening overture, the opening numbers, the finales. So, I got a lot of work on my hands. Let's see how it goes. Okay, now before we get into the details and we do a deep dive into the various parts of the concert, just want the crowd to be aware that there were a few very unique situations that we have to work around or compensate for to make sure that this concert [music] really comes to fruition the way we hope. There's actually going to be no rehearsal and no run through because the show is on a mo Shabas and Friday tomorrow we can't take the boys out of yeshiva. We essentially are running the entire concert on the fly. So everything is in pre-production. all the plans, all the hunters, all the planning, we have to troubleshoot as many things as we can in advance. To do this without a rehearsal is kind of dangerous. So, for each of the four contestants, myself and Alicia Freriedman, who is awesome, he's the host of the show, have been working [music] with the kids. Each kid chooses the song and gets back to us, and we start going to town about the format, how each kid's going to sing it. Now, number one, because these are children, they're not adults, they're not going to sing songs in the same key. So, we need to figure [music] out what key they're going to sing the songs in. Also, how are we going to sing the song in a way that's going to accent, right, the strengths of their voice? So, here's a great example. This is uh MB's Hi Royal, which one of the contestants are singing. I believe the regular key for this is I want to say a minor or B minor. [music] Usually by a kids key, we knock it down either a key and a half or two. So, in this case, it was a key and a half to F minor. And then he had a specific ending for how he wanted to finish the song. So, we wrote that out and made sure that was exactly the way it was described. And again, we're doing this without a rehearsal. I mean, hopefully I'll get a chance to run through with some of the kids, Moz Chaveis, but I got to really make sure that we're giving them exactly what they asked for so they can get on stage and they can feel confident so they can get the way they practiced. >> Something cool for us. [music] >> [music] >> But there was a cooler one. This is beautiful. Of course, [music] right? Oh, this is a good example. So, Bel Shalom is for it. And what I did was I actually had to create some stems because if you take some of the stems, the backing tracks from the album, what you're doing is the band is playing along with not the entire recording, but parts of the recording because this sounds like a like a pan flute and very, you know, exotic instruments that a typical live band doesn't bring with them. And if you do the song without the stems, like it's nice, right? But it doesn't sound full, doesn't sound complete. So whenever [music] possible, we try to perform at least the dinner music as close to the album original as possible. So I have the she music for it's exp by shell shalom. Um but I wanted to incorporate some of the sounds for the album. So using I wouldn't record an album with this stuff but for background behind a band that actually the stems separation is amazing for these purposes. [music] You hear the pan flute. You hear the lavish [music] strings, some of the percussion, right? Some of the background [music] voice vocals. And you add this to the live performance and you'll hear it on Saturday night, you'll hear how it really enriches the entire performance. [music] There we go. >> That song was so sick. Again, we're doing it on the fly and uh with a tashim everything should go properly and smooth. Fortunately, I've been blessed with the best band on planet earth. So, everything I give them, they're able to handle like you know everything and then some. So, all is going to go amazing going into Shabas. The chalant might conflict with the performance, but >> this shabus I said no gapilta this time. I don't feel like preparing it and baking it. You know, I'm going to I'm going to do my usual herring out of the jar. I don't use a fork or a tooth. I pull it out with my hands and sometimes my teeth just to make it really feel extra shabusy. >> Eric, how was your shabas? >> My shabas? My shabas was um >> Hello. Come. Hello. >> Very shabasy. >> I already had a lot of information on their shabas. >> Si said he was going to bring his chant for me to taste for shabas and then he did not. >> I'm not saying I'm upset about it. I'm just saying >> I was promised chilling spoons or anything, right? I was promised chillant >> by speed and as yet there is no chillant. The first problem was there's no chunk left cuz it was so good. >> Can I offer you pizza? >> What? >> Can I offer you pizza? >> I had some. Now you didn't make the pizza either. That's like, can I offer you something that I didn't make that someone else brought that I have? >> Also, it's not as good as the challenge. >> Of course, [laughter] the slowest. >> Although, you know, how would I know cuz I haven't had the challenge yet. >> But think of the the one chill you had in your life, but like much better. >> If Ari is the best. If Ari is the best, I'm telling you, you need music. You got with Barry. It's Barry. It's all Barry. The Bless, right? Who melody? >> How was your Chabas? Chavez was amazing. Snowed in and quiet. And then the judges talk to the boys. Then they announce the winner. And once they announce the winner, the finale is on Avdo. We'll go into the chorus. I'll set you up. Same key as you'll finance. Just the chorus. Then we'll then right sing it once or twice and then we'll go from there into the chorus. >> But we'll play it first. >> Okay. >> That's it. That's the finale. You know, there was a lot going on. It was hard and fast. I don't know if we were able to capture it all. We tried to give you guys, the viewers, a glimpse, right, of all the craziness.
