told me I think it was one one of those years so this is already it's about six weeks before my birthday did they ever said to me until then after that any time I wrote I have a birthday what day the week it was I didn't know they there another 40 Days so what you I didn't know what to tell the he said is chabas and I didn't know and uh the opened up a drawer and in it there was a of with a picture of the on it and he opened up this and it said yes chab you should for the or for the that's who had a birthday on a Friday whoever the re very often will talk about the day of your birthday I know many B whose birthday fell out on a Friday never falls on a Friday but who birthday fell on Friday that year very often the would tell them before could be you do it Friday night or shabas morning but on the the week of your birthday of the day of your you should do it on the day itself and that's to all of us because what it means is that on way I understand it is you're looking for extra extra you're going to be anyway and if you're not going to take that half hour that hour out in the middle of that Friday you'll be doing something useful that time as well is saying it's we know this and of it has 10 related to like for example say did you manage even when you saw me and and you know say all extra and so the is a very important day for everybody and when it's not the you might think seven eight months ahead it's it because the is similar to the of and one year that was the theme that the spoke about is that which is in this time is the how do you know it where where's they say when a woman is expecting she should be more more careful about her lifestyle including the food that that one eats and breathes she breathes in that's he gets it when the child is born that the order changes in other words the said this in in other words birth means becoming independent until then he was living from his mother and the that day is the big day because it means that that's the day that you became a person not just something that's going to depend on somebody else and that's what it says took a nation out of a Nation it means theen were in and they were exposed to that culture and they were vulnerable to that culture they came out of said you now your mind now you are that's what you and you don't need anything else you got the a so anyway everybody here has a birthday this [Music] year we should all go out of we should all go in one of the most beautiful beautiful Concepts in is the beer of that you go from from bad to good but the real real real beautiful thing it's it's it's revolutionary is a thing which is what happens with a how is he going out he suggested how is it s doing the person who has abandon everything he good he's like he's doing everything he has to do it's the it's called it means even though you've achieved a lot and you're doing very well and you didn't get there by itself you struggled some things you struggle a drop some things you struggled a lot some things took your time you reached a certain level and you say it's been already so so long that I've been keeping this and thing well I've not been doing such and such thing it's a it's a very great achievement It's a Wonderful achievement but it says is something that you you're aiming for a and it's a connection to the it's a connection to the it's a connection to that whatever any goal you have in life people have a goal and they're happy and then they sit back and comes to again and that's what p is that's what is it means you can always do more and it's not in in a way which is ungrateful or not validating what you did already you're someone who is so capable and I want to help you to become even bigger than you are and better than you are and to achieve want um it so I want to talk about this goes I just heard a story this week from Rabbi naali l t and he read it that Rabbi Groner said that in the in the kin years in the years before the of the somehow or another he and Rabbi he didn't know which I think was probably RAB from later from Chicago RAB krinsky brother-in-law it's about the same age they were and the asked them to produce a of the I imagine he didn't know exactly what I I was probably they were IM mographic you know they used to type the M onto a stencil and then you print it we roll it you know what that is you know what that is what and they said yeah look like an old fashion WhatsApp but no no aaph was it was a thing made of rubber or of plastic or something a sheet and you typed or you wrote on to to it with holes and then it and it Go went on to a drum which went which you turned around well they sometimes they had electronic ones and it had ink in it so we print out this this only typed from The Originals that you got and the were who did it to get spending money they would type for the other and they would type 20 copies and they sold it for one cent a page I think which was a lot of money in those days it means it can cost you 50 cents a big F or something and um the first the second the first page wasn't cheaper but the more expensive second page was the best because the first one sometimes had he had a tin very hard second page they charge maybe two cents I don't know with some kind of a the way they sold it and the 20th page must have been cheaper you you need a pair of glasses to to read it and um so they made like that a very thin onion paper it was called because the Reit did not allow them to print anything that was built in m and that change that was upgraded in they used a spirit stencil that's what they used also in something similar not not exactly the same and that came out and I think was the first one when they actually had stencils then then later they started you just for I can't hear when did start you're moving over to my wrong ear when did start allowing guilty muger he allowed me the question is when did you allow to print it and to what extent it when it became public that it's really something which is not muger sometimes was every area if you read through the I try to read since gim a little bit of igis every day the the the pure breadth of the but there's also a depth I saw in the I went in there before they were typing up was ail it says but they wrote and the made a circle around he said I left this out that those two words purposely because for that in this didn't fit another time I saw they prepared they would prepare suggested they never added whole and sometimes they took the all these long which the would make was 99% taken from the somewhere else but I saw one which was a whole big thing you know a whole big and said it's not relevant here for example so built is like it can be a word that's not and sometimes it can be much more than that it could be something which is which is wrong um rabri inas toldly he wrote an he writes an article every week in and he wrote something and he wrote a story from the G and theat was not 100% correct it was and that he that he went once in 13 years to go home and see what's happening with his property with his with his fields or whatever and you and and you and they someone told him how did you leave you and he said die but so somebody in in this article had it somehow not exactly as it is uh and he was called up by a a very very not that person he told me who it was a very famous person who was bucking everything and he said never say this he asked this told me that this it was not RAB he it was a quote from a different publication which had a slightly wrong in in that gamor and he said I took it from there so this said if I would have to and find out how work that's how much he trusted he but I just wanted to check out is that is that what really said so you see what what can happen this so um the that was there's times that you know I thing which was said the one said in a came from and the said I didn't say this certain thing and they said somehow it sounded like it in the end asked for the tape to be played for him and said listen to the tape like like his head like very very deep conentration and the Reba heard it and the said I can see where you got that impression from but that wasn't what I was saying this is so lat years if you as you wrote B mug in those days the rule was every page had to say B mug and even though it was not printed now later they printed it as long as it's on the cover this isil so with the the world knows that this is prepared by what year question is what year did what year so I said he allowed it to be typed and then he allowed it to be on the blue it was called a spirit stencil it what Happ you would write on a on a paper on a like on a on a it looked like a piece of paper but the back of the paper was like carbon paper it had some kind of in it could be of any color those pages and we made the camp magazines G I remember because I used I was an editor in Montreal that was that was and if I would known I would have brought one here today from the p i find from those Spirit probably from B the allowed stencil still not printed Mish printed I don't remember exactly when um you I don't remember it was probably you know maybe I don't know that when when things came out like you know much more it's it's fantastic how how much of the's Works was people had because they wrote notes I wrote for about 6 months I didn't write in the summer was after and in the winter was 10:00 at night and I I'm able to write very very quickly I was able and I would write very very quickly what he wrote scribbl it and then I went home I lived in Williamsburg I had a room in the dormatory but I I had my house was a half hour I went home and I sat through the night usually and I ride it out very very neat and Sunday I took it to the post office and sent it to BR to gold and uh so for those months that I did it once asked me those after they asked people for and somebody asked me to see the of this this very very very long M and I fact it to him you know what the facts and and uh uh so people gave those things later on and sometimes you can tell because the said what is is when K there was either a fullblown k i i just wrot what he said but sometimes he would he had to leave he had to go but he said in the and he could say in less than a page but would take five pages for him to write to be able to flesh out because it was you know that's all part of the thing but the is not that it gives you a whole different perspective in the whole 10 pages but was you know a person was able to to operate on that hi everybody here by the way so anyway so those are the questions you can ask other questions also now so anyway come back to the story so the RAB asked Rabbi Groner and Rabbi they were B to prepare this M for and this was maybe it started or even I don't know but they were working on it and it was O and they were working and working and um Mrs Groner nobody here remembers her was Rab's mother was a of the of the original the his daughter and uh she called up to 770 was a a public phone and she said I need you at home you know come home need a pair of hands so then the came down from from the second floor where the was and the Reb said and the Reb said yeah so so he the said that he was by the by the and he the asked is that m to me out for p and uh the Reb said to the re yeah working on it it will be out so said so the said then gr told the this mother him up so the said for for the it's worth you know tell your mother this is from the and that's in itself a big thing and what it means is that come this the time of you want to know one of my it was on this living Torah I just saw last time I missed half of it about how to be they had about four or five people and all of them one was myself that I saw one was Rabbi vog one was in one or two others and all of them said learning learning my my learning what I learned it had to do withing and learning you connect your mind to the me you learn the it elevates your whole mind your whole perspective your whole life your life becomes more successful your way of thinking the way look at the world you can't push it you have a grip on life but the biggest reward is you have but besides the learning there's also sh for the something you don't share is a selfish act we have towar I I was in 770 one of the only guys did understood English and used to go to universities and to youth groups I went to many many places for shabat I went away 5 10 times a year to universities for shabas then with RAB he ran so I wrote to the maybe I'm going too much and maybe I'm not going enough I I I never asked anybody I just went when they asked me would you go I went I loved going I loved going and and seeing how you can get people interested and did all these things but I asked the am I in my am I doing what I'm supposed to be doing and in to me since whenever you go you check it out with the it's according to the of do exactly what you doing till now in other words sometimes this this certain time which is set aside from that's that's your own a special for that that's the created that before they started in the L and theid Friday afternoon you wrote a letter home you went to the laundry people did exercises they did different things people didn't some took a nap so you have he'll be have to step late Friday night to and then other you don't have this this is spend the Friday afternoon it's the most precious time because it's your time and they giving it to this is this is unbelievable it's unbelievable sometimes you're doing it and you don't realize how what a big achievement it is and you see who get just read the story about a this year pu they went to some stle D and then we got they got a uber back no no they got a ride back and then they found out that the driver was actually Jewish so one of the hour was driv something said you you should hear the Milla put just this just a couple of weeks ago so the kai says I got to go home sorry he says I'm going that way also and he went with him in the car and he said and he read the Milla for 30 minutes whatever took him to read the Milla quick as he could in the car and and then and and the guy listened captive audience then when he finished he said okay this where I got to get off and he took AA back I I had from such a story the want to see somebody do a not his own G he doing it for somebody else now somebody came to the rebba and he said he had a major substantial sum of money that he wants to donate he was another a c and one of the native to one of your projects and they talk about a very very large sum of money and the said donated to maybe well I don't I don't remember if that was the place was part of the story but said give the money from she says that's not what I'm talking about that I'm talking about like something like a big building or some kind of a thing so they say you big building a thing you you have to go some to somewhere else you're asking me what's called big to me is big now there's a here in England by the name of M donov and he told somebody this story say just mention it for the last five years not it's not out of the blue he knows that this is somebody's going to do it he's impressed with what he does and he's happy to be part of it so I'm telling you this story because I want to tell you a story of the which I would imagine you never heard ever before I heard this story from my son-in-law RAB Shima in Rancho Mirage California some you might know him know my sister is married to David your sister is married to David oh you right for yeah wow Ben mil yeah that's she she is not the only we have in the family by a long shot but he's the only anyway so all right so have aim told me this story he's in Ranch Mirage and there is er there is like a lot of people come there from Los Angeles many of them have a house there with a swimming pool we as a mikah you whatever or from Chicago a lot of people to in Chicago Ranch Mirage to a certain type of people is they they have their summer or their weekend house over there but there also people from the East Coast that come a lot a lot of from so he told me there was one somebody there I think or something like Hungarian from vinand the KAS a very very kous operation in vinand and the man said I'll tell you a story of the story of the that he heard I believe from his father his parents was from his parents a story that happened in 1940s before they ever came to America you know 1940 41 when the the was in Paris or others in France and uh the Nazis occupied Europe and it was a very very frightening dangerous time and here's this from couple and and they couldn't get matzes hand matzes it was very hard to find the place it wasn't that popular they never made it popular in the whole world even when I was a boy in New York there was two or three places where they made baked mat today there's a 100 places anyway and so with all of the pressures it was very hard to get mat and one night about 1:00 in the morning knock on the door they were Mish terrified the middle of the war with an occupation so the man says who's there and the voice says he says was the he says his name then a young man you know 40 years under 40 years old he said the MS you know said his name say they open up the door and they say yeah what can I help you at 1:00 in the morning you know what are you coming for so the said have you managed to find a place where you can get and they thought that was like something wrong with him coming at 1:00 in the morning question where M they said no we haven't found it yet we're very Hungarian so the said look you're trying and I'm trying if you find somewhere with they have please get to me also and if I find a place where they have mat where where they're baking Matas I'll get for you and he left and they the couple said to themselves strange man funny kind of thing anyway him upon him about a week 10 days later 1:00 in the morning knock on the door and they got scar again who's there and he says and us so said I don't want to use the word that they used same the same whatever and they open up the door and had a package of he said I manag to get and these are yours he gave him under Nazi occupation I tell that because the they say somebody asked the once in France likely that same year he asked you know where did you get mat and he said don't have just have to the and then we had potatoes or something people didn't have there was no m i saw in the Soviet Union in the 1980s they asked us to bring in mat to send in mat it's perishable it's get used out and there were hundreds of B you know so they they they had to and and you you have to just eat fruits and vegetables any other questions okay Another Story Another from ah all the things that you hear from older people that's but you know I'm not I'm not that's what happened I'll tell y like with a p and he said no he pointed that was I was near near at the doorway was the thermostat and there was a like a clock with with hands like the oldfashioned clock like little little clock on the on the thermostat he said I saw on thermost to one and I remember that because a lot of people don't realize that in we don't wear watches on I heard from someone that the once people always work it's not a problem I I think they they should take a big plate or a big something big K and everybody should put down their their watches there J pick them up after um do not wear a watch on shabis is different story shabas everyone understands shabas because you don't wear a watch as a a piece of jewelry not a gold watch or something you wearing the watch to another time what the they used to say chabas how do you know how do you you know chabis how could you tell if it the watch is AIT or or or just something you're carrying they said in case the watch stops it's not going would you wear it if yes then it means it must be made of it's an accessory it's gold it's women watches we used to be like that now you so that was something you wore not because of carrying if of knowing the time you wore it because it was a fancy thing and if the person said I wouldn't wear it once I don't know the time mean you you wearing it order to another time you're carrying it but that's shab you can find other but it's not a thing to wear a watch could use the watch you can hold it in front of you you look at the clock anyway so that's that's one thing I remember even though it's not of the S as such but it's something that happened at a s and and that was the that was the last time I was in New York before which was the last year that there was a s upstairs in the second floor York a 95y old Rabbi and I I heard it from youngite you know younger guys like 75 year old who saw at my age that's anyway so uh They said that the Reb would go home with the rebbit that night the PES the the evening before and G in outside 770 there's a pipe with water and the comes there and he had like a a thing like this with glass such a like a little picture without the pretzels obviously just it was a special thing just used for PES and there was big a big jug let's say 2 three gallons maybe I don't know Dr maybe this size glass jug and the would rinse it out quickly three times he would rinse out the other and they s k by the way we the whole crowd outside there and would pour in three uh little pitches into the big jug and uh now that's known this this this there on Jam you can see that in Jam but what's not as well known is that the also was in for other places especially they sent mat that was usually B I think that the would take the collect and they bake M the next day and also the did it for the B so one year they asked the re which day they should bake the B should bake the Matas and the said and he was the RO officially on the Mattis so he told the Reb would you mind if you do it on on on we if we bake on Monday he had some something was urgent on Tuesday he had to do so he asked the can we bake up Monday and said yeah okay let it be Monday and that means that has to take the on Sunday you with me everybody Sunday night [Music] night was that Rabbi khov a book should be written about him was was a like you know anywhere else he'd be a himself or he was a and as a of and uh ROV at the end of every day until one day they fainted one night just sitting there in the office he would go into the Reb's room before the re went that was the last thing of the's day was a meeting with RAB it was sometimes 5 10 minutes and it could be an hour I understand that they made calls to well they did what what did they did in that time was usually you know 10 15 minutes it was things that accumulated the day probably that was that was the S when when he gave it over to the de that's generally every day to one day he fainted I think about 3 in the morning or something and and they ever told him that when it's very late he shouldn't come that was much later years after my time at now umov would go into the before would start at 8:30 night in the winter it was already after myv but in the summer there' be a break somewhere in the middle at about it could be 9 10 no not 9 it would be about 10 11 even 12 late you know late at night and there will be a break between for before y started about 8:00 in the evening 8:15 went into and one of the things he brought was I think the list of who's coming in tonight a list of the names of who's coming to tonight and he had this list and then in the middle of Y maybe 10 11:00 RAB KH would walk in again to the rebba to see if he wanted anything any instructions so this night when they already took the goes in at 8:15 before about 6:00 time he goes into the and the said what's happening with which was a funny question because he never asked it before so said they took it the B took it the the matah bakery was not on on on Al like it is today it was in the East Side in Manhattan on Broom Street raash kov pof's father was the he was the head of IT big also he was the head of that Bakery and it was on at a building on the east side with it was like in the basement of an apartment house or something and it was pretty primitive like it was steps Stone steps very steep going down and then ER there was no equipment you know as it was in the early in theth and so said they took the water and they went to the side finished but later a couple of hours later went into in the middle of he would go in so he went in and he walked into the Reb's room and the re said two times in one [Music] night that ask such a question so he made a mental note that when I get back to my office I'm going to phone up right away to find out what's happening at the at Bakery we didn't have to bother as he walked into the office the phone was ringing and the the it might have been bar that I'm not sure there was a b who was in charge of the baking of the Mattis and he was crying they took this jug this glass jug and they're going down these steep Stone steps and it fell and it smashed and they were Mish to and you can't get my mayal the same night has to be earlier it's water very very upset so said what to do he went in he told the that was very upset but it broke what should we do and then gave a big smile and said I said it's going to be Tuesday now so I like that story it's a beautiful story because the didn't say look we have a plan B this is the plan this we not another I believe part of it was he was addressing the B shouldn't be upset because the result of it is that instead of doing the thing you're doing the my story a lot you can learn from it about Sensitivity I give you one more story you a story that went out of the and he met on Street excellent I usually interrupt myself in the middle of how how I I never saw it so I would imagine that the ne stayed by her mother in that appear time or something where she came down after 2 hours and she 2 hours and two4 hours or something everything was very very careful that everon once came out of the house on a Friday it was late gets to the to un to Brooklyn and president they see the turning the corner so he started running away so the Reon said you don't leave a woman alone in New York streets at night and so H so the Reon was probably ER behind you know by the co behind the co it was like to go for that that that's where the place was and they would meet there and and went home this I heard I read about this I never saw that I saw with my eyes that walking home with the also shim laar you heard of him went to buy so if shim lazarov was asked by to be for she lived in like a small apartment in the back the bottom floor in 1418 president and he did it couple of years and uh I heard this from himself when he finished he told please God next year and the said ah next next year you'll make your own in your own house in other words you'll be married and uh the interesting thing is that the was nostal six months later and Sh got engaged somehow around it worked out that he was just married then to do it and
