Thank you, Rabbi Vogel, for making the
time to have this discussion.
>> Thank you.
>> Okay, so as we prepare for
the month of Tish, I felt it would be
appropriate to leave the am that is
listening to the podcast
with basics. And what I mean by basics
is tish is the time where one of the
primary focuses of is uh
with the and that everything that that
entails and that the experience and the
best way to do that is to speak to that
have experienced it and know how to give
it over and I think that's very
beneficial for me personally and for
thousands of people throughout the
world. uh whether they know that it's
beneficial for them or not, maybe this
will help in that effort.
>> Sounds like a plan.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> So, I think you could, you know, I I'll
I don't know. I think what what we can
do is start off
just going through in a chronological
order. So today,
tonight is
if I understand correctly, that's
usually
that's sort of sets the tone or the
beginning of I don't know if you want to
start there, you want to start, but uh
tell me how you how you think you want
to do this.
>> I wasn't thinking that much of actually,
but um that
>> we could start.
>> Yeah.
>> Or the to that
Um,
it's always hard to start.
>> It also might be helpful
in you're the one that's talking. So,
the context of you, where you're coming
from, your first day, something like
that, that also might be helpful in a
way to to get into it if that makes
sense.
>> Makes sense. But in my case, it doesn't
actually doesn't exactly apply.
>> Okay? Because the first time I came to
Reba,
I'll say the first time I came to Reba
was for Sukus.
>> Uhhuh.
>> And um the next year I came for the
whole.
>> So how old were you then?
>> So
instead of coming for my mitzvah, I came
a little later. Most bakram in my my
class would come for the bait to the
Reba. La didn't work out. I'm not sure
why. So I came a year later.
and I came for
sukus.
>> Your class, you're from London, right?
>> Yeah, from London.
So, um
so uh I came from my father brought me
for sukus
exactly 50 years since uh I saw the
rabbi for the first time.
Um,
I would say in a way I'm thankful that
I was not I didn't grow up in Crown
Heights, so I didn't have the experience
of seeing the Reba the whole time.
So, uh, the fact that for me it was new,
I remember what it was like before I saw
the Reba and then I saw the Reba the
first time. So I had a you know in a
sense extra impression and the memories
masham are quite strong.
>> Over the years I've been speaking to
people
and I kind of have a mixed message about
those that grew up in Crown Heights.
What do you mean it's in the ber? They
were by the kind of remember when the
first time they saw the reb
all all the time and that's obviously
tremendous value. On the other hand,
there's a certain level of I don't know
if you want to call taking it for
granted or not appreciating like you're
saying as much because they can't put
their finger on that moment. This is
when it came to the reba. This is when
it all began
>> and you know this this start and ending.
When you live in Kits, it's like this is
how I was born. This is uh this is how
life's going to go and you know without
the having that having that. I guess
that's what you're saying
>> even more than that they would say
has 10b.
So remembering what susta was like
before that
>> right
>> you know how unimaginable it is and mitz
when we get there when we get susta
describe that a little more
>> difference in before and after
>> right
>> it's a major
>> so you came so when you came to theash
you came right before
>> when I came yeah usually usually I came
right before
>> okay so maybe let's start with
>> which I remember
um
Z. So I came after Shabas we flew on
Sunday a group of English boys together
and
I remember the Reb coming into
my mind this is what it seemed to me
when the Reb came in to 7:00 there as
walked in was it 7 7:00 so the the
seemed
>> you're not talking about Shabas you're
talking about
>> No I'm talking about the weeks yeah um
Monday morning and it seemed to me like
the was very serious
and when went out the rabb's face was a
little more relaxed which remind me the
story of the bata whatever I'm saying
the whole you know you look at the rabbi
like
trying sometimes translate or put in
things which you connect from other
places that's the the nature sometimes
but they're remembering
and the days of slas
went right up to um
afteras. says just let's talk around
half hour just under and immediately
there was a minion for shakras upstairs
in the small zo
and uh 8:00 there came in for
instead of a usual day that would come
in 10:00 for that became 8:00
>> it was a special minion
>> for the days of or because there's no
>> shakas because of I don't know because
of because of
>> shakras was earlier Yeah. So instead of
the yeshiva minion being at 9:30,
whatever it was, they started the minion
like uh um what was it? 7:30,
>> right?
>> 7:30 after I don't think it was like
that. I think was right everything
changed.
>> I think it was Yeah, it was 10 I
believe.
>> Yeah, everything changed. I say what
happened then?
>> I don't I'm not even sure what happened
to lead the years. But I remember then
8:00 there came into chair.
There's a whole line of people
um
to bench
the Reb's minion
and actually I reminded myself the very
first time I bent in front of the Reb
which was something unbelievable
experience but even though that happened
Yudgish a year before
and if you want to go backwards
>> I'll I'll follow the the flow you want
to go back you can sure I'll follow that
>> but um the very first time I saw
which in a way I'd like to say it was
printed many years ago in the the hair
and it's for honor. So um
>> and by the way in this month's tish
there's a overview of parts of tish and
you're featured in that as well. So
whoever uh is hearing this make sure to
read that asm.
>> Yeah.
>> So what was printed that what? So um
the Reb came in then to create
was actually the day after was the last
time it was between
Yipper and Sukus
and
um the Reb actually came 12:00 then so
it was a minion just for Chris
and you know the Reba has as usual
And the Reb goes to the side of the
Bimma. And there's only two people
mentioning Goyo. One person older,
already married and and me. It's the
first time in my life I'm saying go and
I go over to Bim with a sed. It's first
time in my life I'm saying it. And I go
over to Bimma.
And I say go
and in the middle I feel eyes on me. So
I made a mistake. I looked up and
believe me the word she malani is a long
word but they were looking at me from 3
in away I'll never forget the the the
fear the dread the the the
like look at me and and seemed to I
would say sharp
some people say that when you say
looks at you as if you're so it's like
whatever I couldn't say the word I
started trembling
sh the words wasn't coming. I don't know
five, six, seven times. I don't know. It
must have been only a few seconds and
for some reason I felt I knew I should
look back inside the sitter but I
couldn't take my eyes off the reba and
it's looking it's like in the end looked
down and I looked back to the sther and
as I stepped back I understood what
Rashi says on the word
knees are knocking together from fright.
I never felt something like that and
from then on I always made sure don't
meet eyes with the Reb is one thing the
Reb says that when you're learning when
you're listening to Tyra you should look
but in general don't look at look
straight into the Reb's eyes it's
whatever
anyway that's just remembering go I mean
the next year I I already remember it as
I went up I'm not looking
>> as I as I talk to more people more
and among podcast.
>> Yeah.
>> I start to see different uh I mean I've
been talking to my whole life but you
know in this formal way.
>> Yeah.
>> I've been seeing certain threads that I
see across many people. And one of the
things I I I've heard from many is this
sentiment that you're describing
of being in the Reb's presence. the the
hamelik and the of the way you know the
way people the way people feel.
>> Yeah.
>> And I mean I'm imagining you heard this
from someone before or this you you came
in uh with an empty slate and this is
what you felt.
>> I'm not sure
at this point I can't remember if
I heard from people that they were
afraid or not. I'm not sure.
But I definitely felt it. I mean, this
is
>> Yeah.
>> Although the same night
and I'm jumping ahead, but it's the
first time I was by Fabrangan
and we came in first service and after
mimer somebody gives me says here first
time you hear my faban. So I pick up the
cup, you know, the little kleska, a
little bit of wine, but I'm not sure if
the reba I've always been wearing
glasses, so you know, you can't be
exactly sure. And is there looking at me
or is he looking at someone else? I
don't know. And I see the nodding my
direction. I wasn't sure it's me. So I'm
still holding the cup up. So again, I
see the nod. Again, I'm not sure it's
me. Suddenly there gave a smile.
And then I suddenly felt that it was to
me. Of course, everybody looks around.
who's ever smiling at you know but the
two opposites in the same day
>> right
>> here's the fear the a and here was the
smile that's the only time ever smiled
to me it was different times afterwards
that like on that uh I I smiled because
of something and the immediately
switched off the smile like stopped
smiling immediately
>> just to prove to me I guess he's not
smiling to me
>> which they say is better you know a
smile is a cure of
>> you don't want
>> it's not looking for a kid.
>> You don't want to smile.
>> Anyway, it went off track a little bit.
So let's go back to uh that's
>> so saying that um again it was shakas
I'm saying I can't remember exactly I'm
not going to say now what exactly
happened
what was there was no fang in the
beginning I'm saying a whole week of
that year
was shabas so it was part of one week of
Monday Tuesday one of the days Tuesday
or Wednesday I can't remember which day
there was a to the ladies I heard once
that um the bakim go upstairs to vibes
when the all the ladies in the shaw
there speaks for them bakim go to vibes
later I was told you shouldn't do that
whatever I did it actually interesting
note I found later a safer about the
and it says over there what the spoke
when the ladies were in the shul and the
men were in the vibes
>> so just it's uh not only in labav
There's precedent for that.
>> Yeah. But I remember going into the
vibes, look down, I see there speaking
and then shranging
um
not going to dwell on it too much right
now. That particular
fabangan I don't remember right now. And
also uh the article that I mentioned in
the this month is is specifically about
that about that and
so there's a lot to read over there
about those three dates. So I guess now
we're holding bed.
>> So yeahash
remember also that and then run out.
There's a buses to the every's busy you
knowash one those days you're very busy
you have to get to the have to get back
buses to the
>> days that people went to theash.
Yeah. So there was buses outside and you
like vans more and took a van to royal.
He says you have half hour.
>> You're skipping also.
True, true, true.
>> Um,
yeah. Shakam
one of the few days that the Reb would
come out to the minion and you see the
Reb with a talis and film
always came out to Davening to the
minion
>> with Shabas and even
but to see the Reb actually with film
was I think five six days a year
>> in those years. Yeah. in those years
just um when the hadite
you know and
um
they've always came out to but we came
out with film they didn't
know is every
>> I'm not sure if that's the I saw a
letter from the aged to his son there
Malik that he should daven by himself
if I remember correctly
>> so that's for the know but here the came
out
also one of those days the reb would
come out and down with the minion till
just by the way till meas the official
time for the weekday was 9:30 not 10:00
that changed the meas
cuz that's the minion of the Baham.
>> That's the minion of the Baham. So even
though the down downstairs
>> but the minion was 9:30.
>> So came out.
I remember actually Rabbi Kikin isn't my
teacher. He said before Shak he says
climb over the benches. Make sure you
get close otherwise you won't hear
anything. The hat I was uh not used to
it. So I didn't climb over. I didn't
hear I hardly heard anything then a year
later years I did hear I remember
which was actually the end of
that time I remember hearing well
>> the pris
>> yeah the dar and the prisb
>> and had a special niggan for
>> yeah it was more like a ding ding
>> a daving type of yeah
>> there's recordings around from different
years even from the ks there's
recordings already.
>> Yeah.
>> But um
then I noticed I wrote down diary that
time. So the Reb looked at every during
while they're saying
the looked at each one of the who was on
the bench.
The Reb looked at each one and then he
looked and saying there and didn't look
out until till the end. So
>> after when he finished Sah pulled out
said what was interesting that year the
Reb made whole about the prisbul and
they printed um I'm giving over to a rav
and printed and here the rebal
took out a settle from his sitter and
said the of the principal said something
like
>> what was the made
>> they made a very big that you try and
get as many people as you can to do a
principal
But also it sound like they want they're
want to be a star.
>> So they printed in stars. I probably
have a copy somewhere. And they printed
like papers. You could cut it up. It was
small papers and room for
I can't remember now or donim which d
giving it over to which this is very
interesting.
>> So you're saying the didn't do it like
that.
>> The didn't do it like that. So it was
never done again.
>> Right. But that year there was a people
were wondering how's the reb himself
going to do it. So
>> yeah, now in the new sedur they now they
added it in but it was it wasn't
imprinted in the
>> no pris wasn't added in
the said something to my mind if I
remember correctly it sound like the
didn't want to talk with he said it
I think or something like that
>> said that
>> yeah I heard that I wrote down then what
the said exactly what I heard
>> when when the
So said
maybe some other words generally the
would say just a few words
>> right
>> until base which is the only time the
said right after um
so after then you have to give the reb
so it' be a line would go very very fast
I think the line for panim is probably
the fastest line by in blan
So I remember standing outside on the
street, you know, all the lines to get
get to the river, whether whatever it
was was lac, it was pan, it was um you
know what else could it be? But
>> dollars.
>> No. Well, dollars is later saying um in
those years Vanessik was the longest
line. But uh you know always the lines
went out into the street. You went a few
houses past 770.
But here I push realized went on to the
line wherever it was two houses down
three houses down the line was moving
very very fast. You see in the videos
there just takes the punal
you see in the video there for every two
people.
So it's each two people but there was
very very fast. It would be the fastest
line
>> but everyone would go all the way.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. until um
ment
before less said they'll take it in
three days instead of one day to make it
easier after so
>> they have to explain right
>> yeah yeah after the because of the
reba's health did it they did it
>> so the reb himself said it in the
>> so from then on it became over a few
days
>> came over a few days yeah
>> but so after pan.
>> Yeah.
>> The Reba went to the But you were you
were in the middle of saying
>> no. Yeah. But I remember going
>> you were saying that you were told you
have a half an hour. So what was that?
>> No. So I guess I gave the pan and then
immediately I tried to catch a a van to
the oil.
Um
no to the stop of the van. It said half
hour and it's like I don't know how long
it takes. for the ride to the
>> Yeah. And how long does it take to say
to say mine? I went inside. It was
actually interesting. I was in there and
I have no idea. It's first time in the
nobody told me anything. But I realized
the place I'm standing has uh kind of
structure not very strong. It was before
Lat was there wasn't the house which
they built for the oil house cubicle for
the the which they built for the reb the
cubicle like then it was just open. But
you see there's a a piece of wood and I
don't know it had some kind of
structure. I suddenly realized myself
wow this must be the reb's place. So I
tried not to mamish use it. It was and
then suddenly I got a push from behind.
Look the rashags behind me. It was like
>> it was like okay
>> then I one thing really impressed me
then I'm sure I won't forget old um one
of Rashivas from Burma Rabberg
he's crying his eyes out I'd never seen
it never seen such a sear I mean his
rabbi I don't know if he ever met the
freaker but uh was pushed crying and
crying really impressed me such a sear
anyways in middle Suddenly I heard
somebody banging.
So I realized the ride is up. Rush back.
I got there.
>> So you weren't there when the reb
>> So I actually I think I saw the Reb
going to the aisle. When I came back I
saw the leaving to the aisle
and the car was full of people. It was
the only time in the year when the Reb
would go Rabbi Grona would go into the
and the Kazanovski.
Yeah. It would be full. Their boys sat
in the front seat to the aisle and the
back seat was full. Just three of them
probably.
>> It's also the only time of year that
there were people in the while the and
also I think but didn't always goat
later
stopped going to the
was a time in the year that people were
inside the when the was there.
>> When the was there's a whole thing about
it.
>> He has a whole ride. You know what I'm
talking about.
>> Yeah. He says why are people there? who
heard of they said they should not go
there
>> right he says by no one was in the with
theb right
>> and he says I think he writes I haven't
seen in a long time I think he writes
that's the when go to the
>> and he says the fact that people are in
the when theb is there you know
>> says it's not a good thing and I think
he writes it's only because the are
so therefore he doesn't tell them not to
but but the rest of the year if the Reb
was in the aisle and someone came they
were told
>> in a sense the Reba himself stopped it
because the first year they say um Rabbi
Gro would go with
I don't remember
maybe one or two secretaries but later
the Reb said told Rab gr is going to
give him work to do in the office
and um maybe somebody else also because
they understood that when the goes to
oil it's him alone
>> right so then
>> even Rabbi Krinsky wouldn't stand in
there. He would go in from time to time
to check that everything's okay. And
sometimes there would give him messages
to give over to people.
>> Right. He would be in the car.
>> He would be in the car. He would wait in
the car and not be in the aisle.
>> Yeah.
>> Besides that be in the aisle whole time.
Um besides that would be alone in the
aisle the whole time.
>> Um
>> so you never were
>> No, I never saw the in the
>> Never. Never.
>> No.
>> Anyway then um Okay. Rashashana night I
mean
I'm trying to remember now exactly but I
think they always used to sing a volcano
the first night Rashana as the came in
there's also a
>> asb came in when the reb
>> when came in the reb would start banging
>> before night it starts with a m
>> yeah it starts with maybe even the said
tell him first a few minutes and then
start
to remember because things change from
men
and that's why I'm not Sure.
So it could be just lamadin from when I
remember
that um I think it took some time to
tell him and then a volcano
then they say that the first night you
do all they were down for hours first
night rash we didn't see that by the
rabbi but they say I heard um somebody
told me that uh
um
12 minutes
first shiner of the of the era.
So they say which is um for the Reb it's
it's long because we never saw the Rebas
in public
and um I do remember waiting which was
unusual because usually and I think the
Reb answered somebody once that by
Davening you can't be uh of the
so the rebular speed like a regular
person and here I remember waiting the
first night to Rashana I probably didn't
know how many minutes, but I definitely
remember waiting till until the cousin
until Kazan started the next piece.
Um, but it was very serious like that. I
don't remember there was any singing
besides you know of the parts of Dav
which we sing
and that was
if you jump years I don't know if
>> to talk about the doesn't matter which
year.
So um was a very big and they called it
the rashash it was which didn't usually
happen before.
So the first first night rashana the
derby came in they started mar
immediately no volcano nothing was very
interesting
and they didn't sing a volcano not
Friday night the first night rashana not
not by day the first day rashana not
even mar matzah matzah shabas which was
the second night rashana they didn't
sing a volcano only before shakras on
the second day
>> they sang a volcano before it became
more understandable
A year later when the Reb said Shabas
don't say of volcano so the Reb stopped
the even of singing of volcano on Shabas
>> did that continue or I think
>> yeah from then on we didn't volcano on
Shabas
>> why was it called theash
>> it was very I'll tell you I'll get there
but so here
on the on the first night in Rashana Da
turned around and did something she
usually did only mats and kipper and
some casta they were turned around
gutant I was like everybody as far as I
understand everybody was shocked for me
it's the second time rashan I didn't
know that much but it was very unusual
and then the called out
loud to everybody I remember hearing it
it's like wow was that the was like and
then there was
like wow singing was
And every thriller that year the Reb
started singing. So was like um I even
wrote down in my diary that that first
night we're dancing for a half hour
after the reb left because the should
start at niggan and rash very unusual
and uh had the ham I get to in a minute
and I um I remember the first day of
it was Shabas was not
and um they were I have about
I just remember the Zion. So as the Reb
started the words,
why are you crying? And I remember to my
mind as the Reb started said those words
he started crying.
That's why I remember it. That's how I
remember which words exactly the Reb
started crying. So lame, why are you
crying? Reb starts crying. But
and uh that was the first day. The
second day he didn't cry.
Even though it was a fourth key,
he didn't cry the first day. It was like
I'm saying it was a more upbeat rash.
But that was all basically there was the
first day. I mean, you know, you say
tell him, but there's nothing really to
nothing happening. No the first day
>> in Shambas. Yeah.
>> Shambas. I was four times
and three of them were shamas.
So I heard the least amount of keys.
Um
so again by night um Tashim was again
Novi volcano
basically the first day then was the
pushing and every hopping the places and
>> in the morning
>> in the morning I wasn't used to it
whatever. Yeah
>> there's people had different places for
>> I guess people had sort of came but you
had to be there early they said if you
came after 8:00
>> you probably didn't have your place
you'd lose it. So you didn't go mat in
the morning.
>> I didn't. Well, I was new here anyway. I
didn't know,
>> right?
>> I didn't know my way around. I mean,
>> so I went later when I stood between the
crowd and I never had a place with K. I
saw there was those who wanted to see
exactly what the Reb does with the and
with the red tickle and the white tickl.
I never saw I never realized those
things.
I just remember seeing the first time I
was there. You know, I used to the Reb
speaking when you always hear in the
hookups uh hear the Reb speaking. I grew
up with that. But to actually see the
doing something besides talking in a
sense working I would say you know
blowing
even
being of sorts okay
this is even before I didn't hadn't
heard the yet
and um you know they were saying theukim
then the you know the whole seder
throwing the talis over his head
covering the packages of the panim
and uh I mean later years I realized
that people always madic how many
packets there were if there's three or
four there's usually not too much more
than that
and there would put the talis over and
cover the packages of panim which they
still argue about till today if it was
the panim and if it was the panim of
rashashana people backwards and forwards
Most people tie it there was the panim
from Arashana.
Some people say it was the panim which
came from out of town not the ones
received an arashana. Who knows whatever
it was it was packages.
Oh actually when the reb was going the
second day of shashana the reb kadesh
for the reba for the third daughter of
the freed who was murdered ina.
So,
so um so whenever the Reb would say
kadesh he would say run but go very very
fast to the bimma stayed on his place
till the end of
but as soon as ka was over immediately I
guess maybe there would go very very
fast to the meta kadesh so I remember
you know Klein label grown just like
running behind the reb with the packages
of the panim.
>> They had to really like run to keep up
and they went up there with kadesh
>> and then they called up. So there was
already on the bimma when they called
him up for
so after they put the panim up there.
There's something interesting which
happened
that was probably the first day of
shashashana then rashana is Thursday
Friday
so um
I guess some people from the side
I would call in the fangan bimma you
know people stand wherever they could
and you know on benches tables you know
make sort of not really a kind of
pyramid
and they wanted nobody to block
So somebody tied the chair
to the
what do you call the sticks of the
bimma. You know the the bimma platform
has these um
>> which bima you talking about the
>> terra bimma.
>> Okay.
>> So you the the the platform itself the
has like walls has some pieces of wood
you know the way it's built.
>> Mhm.
>> It's not a wall. It's just pieces of
wood. And they tied a chair inside.
said nobody should stand right next to
Bim. I don't know who did it when it was
done cuz I didn't notice it during terra
but suddenly
seemingly the wanted
>> what's wrong with standing next to the
bimma
>> no they because they the people are
being blocked people on that side so
>> this is a different bimma this is a
lower bimma no no no no bimma kios would
blow by the kasab bimma
>> okay
>> so the was there so two people whoever
had hagba holding the ferta
or fat kios they would stand up and be
right next to
later years people realized that is
saying the second day there would say uh
yizar they spoke about that
the first time was mala that
so I heard from uh I don't see names
what no it doesn't matter it's time
heard from rabbi it's the one year the
rabbi from under the talis with his
handb was like um feeling out with his
left hand.
So he said he was behind he realized
that the reb wants to touch something
probably.
So he pushed you know guided the guy
who's holding the cifoter should go
closer and the reb held on and even
though his hand was holding the
put his hand over this person's hand
>> he wanted to hold the safety he figured
later years that probably the reb went
to say yizkar because whenever the reb
would say yizkar he would hold the ofra
as I say I never saw the during yizkar
anyway so Um anyway, whatever. So, let
me get back to this thing. So, the
reboot to stand at the side of the
bimma.
He tried to get in there, but he can't
get there because there's a chair in the
way. So, he looks, he can't go. So, he's
standing just outside the bimma. So, the
river looks he realized there's a chair
in the way. I mean, somebody tried to
pick it up, but was chained.
So, the river started to shle the bimma.
You're so you're talking about on the on
the platform platform.
>> So someone put a chair
>> next to
>> Yeah. Okay.
>> next to the what you call shulan haka.
>> Okay. Now I get it. Okay.
>> So the reb took the bimma. In other
starts slapping it backwards cuz he
wanted the rea to stand at the side the
bimma
from behind. We realized the reb's
trying to slle the bimma himself. So
from behind they pushed the you know
sober shouldn't have to slept
>> right.
>> So till they realized so they called up
whoever whatever sent down the key
within a minute or two they opened up
the lock and they took the chair away
because but nobody realized till then
that there actually wants somebody to
stand at the side.
>> Mhm.
>> There was always mak for that and there
should be someone standing on both sides
of the bimma. People didn't realize that
there was mak that by
also
they wanted to stand there.
Then there would throw they would the
mascarium would put the panim the
packages onto the bimma.
And then there would throw over the his
talis
be over the panning also and then there
would misban whatever I think first of
all no that would be first of all there
would cover himself
some say there would sing sing a niggan
then
niggan used to sing there's a rash from
the alterba
some say that's what sing and some say
the sing
from alterba
I know Raby Klein some people I don't
remember if I'm remembering or people
told me it's a little haze but that he
would always go very close and he would
claim to hear something but usually
would hear maybe a little hum it
wouldn't that much sound like there
would cry under the under the talis then
there would pick up a talis it would be
pro probably around 5 minutes something
like that meanwhile the whole island was
pushing But in a sense you didn't not
once the reb was on the bimma you didn't
realize the pushing that much before
that you did but once the reb was on the
bimma you felt like something higher is
going on you know it was a himaldic
and um there
would pick up the talis
some people say sometimes the is a
little different
but basically the same tenua and then
the whole island would start
was like a roar you know like whole
would take quite long I remember
finishing seven times
and there didn't finish yet it took I
would say enough time for me to say at
least the extra time so it took long you
know longer
If I remember correctly, there was
holding the talis
over his eyes and just his mouth was
open. So, you know, not to block the
sound, but in other words, his face is
basically covered as he's saying a
little away. So you should be able to
read but the
and they say and then um
there would say
I'm not going to try and say the now
because
>> you can do it.
>> No what I mean say it's I'm I'm a little
confused that people say different years
was a different
>> whatever you remember you could say.
Yeah, I remember one of the WhatsApps
actually blosski
just passed away. So he um he repeated
the niggan he wasn't so mad in Duke with
years just like he said after being so
many years by the skis he he really was
able to repeat it nicely but basically
all the
they say that's the niggan from the
then afterim
I think they're about to cover over
again
not for very long few minutes or I know
minute two three I don't know I'm not
good at looking at the clock how long
each things takes but whatever not a
very a long time and then they picked up
his picked up a talis.
Remember one year they put the talis
behind his right ear, sometimes behind
his left ear, sometimes sometimes both.
I think sometimes they would put the
talis
it would be like covering his forehead
but because it's behind the ears it like
pulls the talis tight to his forehead.
It was an interesting
>> look.
The shaer is covered the whole time.
Cindra was holding it. But the mig is in
savvature to cover the shaifer during
the braha. We only reveal the shaifer
when when you're actually ready to blow.
And then the niggan of the brahas is
also the niggan from the from the
>> same niggan.
>> No, the niggan of brahas is different.
But oh but also from
>> it's also from and they say
I saw I think it's
so the Reb says that even though the
so on I don't remember if said the word
but leading up to be like a mirus would
be like a broken thing nevertheless the
brahas of themselves were upbeat
more to the sim which is very
beer.
What's going on over there?
>> That's how it is.
>> Yeah. But it was interesting that there
mentions it to me. Mhm.
>> I don't whatever it's in the very
interesting uh I never saw the reb
speaking about that Indian.
So um
here is a different
And the roar of the crowd is like, you
know, it's like
>> so sometimes you see the the
kahol is like it's very
very strong.
Then is the same niggan then there was
some blow some somebody who's easier
sometimes harder.
I think it went counts easy
was quite hard
from tash.
So Rabbi Tanibum who would blow shaifer
later during
>> he would show. So he was the mockery.
I know there were changes over the
years. I'm not sure exactly what
happened but from then on there was he
was the mockery. was showing sort of did
a through instead of a sharim something
like that
was something
different. It went harder. I remember
especially the tea at the end
could be like four or five times. They
were tried again and again. I mean for a
tea it was ya but the rebel
and it took a few times few tries till
the reb got till came out. It was like
getting cut off in the middle.
>> The use multiple sha sometimes. No.
>> Yeah. But I didn't notice I I didn't see
exactly what was happening over there. I
I can't say. I just remember the yellow
shaer, you know, regular color sche.
They said it was a black one. I I never
noticed it.
Again, it was there wasn't that that
many times.
Now start saying theukim. Now, generally
when they say theukim, he would raise
his voice from one pock to another. But
the first time I was there, there was
all three in the same tone, which I
remember people told me afterwards. It
was unusual.
>> Unusual. Yeah.
Um circumstant
is very hard to copy. It's like it's
it's very
we go up. I'm not remembering now, but
then I remember that said all three in a
straight
the same tone. It didn't go higher.
[Music]
Then like it says hug him. Everybody
says ashri together because the belt the
or the says ash calls out the first
person ashri
with the same tone. The tone of the belt
is what does the belt do? the the malta
he just said threeukim loud and then he
says ashri also with a special niggan
>> we don't do that
>> the first
interesting
>> but the niggan that use I mean it's kind
of it's it's a it's basically a
but with the
>> you know like like it's the same thing
right
>> it's the same but it's different the has
it own
>> way of doing Yeah.
>> I mean it's only one I know I became in
Lavich I became maybe everyone does it
but I heard a recording of of Nusak and
it was
>> similar but different obviously.
>> Well Ashri the I mean I know here's the
place cuz you want to talk about the
Reb. Let's leave it without saying that
again. Anyway, um and then the went back
to those who noticed that the would put
on the
>> second day.
>> Second day and also the Indian of that's
why I said I most time I was there four
times and three of them were were
>> Mhm. I was shabas. I was I mostly saw
the second day only. And the look of
respon which either I was aware or I
wasn't aware I never saw.
>> Did his place
>> they said that everyone got back to his
place there would turn around look at
everybody. Why are people jumping? You
know,
the same problem during Musf when um
when uh
Kaz get up to Kim
both Rashan and in Kiper
like somebody told me if you see
everybody jumping you know you missed
the ever doing kay.
So I never saw the doing kum.
>> So
>> you didn't have a place ever kipper
close enough? I was close but I don't I
never saw I guess I wasn't aware.
Similarly, the Reb would would um do it
when started the next piece. I'm not
sure where I know exactly but
as soon as the would start there would
already do it right away would bend
down. I think it's a from saw that the
would everybody do it
>> does it right away
>> as soon as the starts
and then they say there would stand and
look at the kazen that's especially on
on again because
it's like the kangle
so kangle would say everybody would look
at the kangle so the same there would
watch him do the kim
but
One thing I did notice even which is
before that there would sit down a lot
during ding
which was a little bit unusual because
before that I'd never seen them sitting
down during ding before would hardly set
if he did at all
>> even like
>> during ding
>> even like sit most of the time would
stand
>> would sit
>> would sit a lot it was very noticeable
to be for some reason that those ra
would you know bring the chair closer
there should be able to sit well it's
helping
which was another thing I noticed um
over the years the first time I was
there
when they were about to get up they
would just stand take the back of the
chair and like almost throw it like I
was amazed at the strength later years
later ladies started pushing it and then
Robert Grona would help because
I It was harder for the Reba to move the
chair.
I mean generally they would stand up
when the ark is open but not always.
Sometimes there would sit. You don't
have to stand up every time is open.
>> Yeah.
>> What else? um as a mus
and um
one year I was quite close actually
during brahasim
when it came to kayim. So the reb would
go off his davining bimma
and go behind they brought the katya
hashtender
which are from upstairs. It's a
hashtender like a stander goes on a
table. Yeah.
>> Goes on a table. So they brought that
behind.
at the end of the at the back of the
bimma and put that there.
>> So the deba is like where the crowd is.
>> Yeah. The reb is further back because
he's supposed to be facing the kayim
>> and the kenim would go up onto the onto
the bimma onto the rebing bimma. I mean
there are loads more near the ardesh but
under it would also be full of kanim
and the reb would um there was there you
know covered himself
the talis
and then by tamenu
so there is down on the floor so it's a
lot harder for people to see but I do
remember that one time and there was
like I think it was the second day
when I saw
And the reb was head like you know they
say um one of I think Zmanov he was the
one who adapted the words to the Reb's
father's niggan and they say afterwards
the reb they thanked him for that but I
remember the reb's head backwards and
forwards like very strong you know
you know it's like
the the best cousin I could say in those
years was um Harab Weinberg you heard
him clearly
So most labs who know
>> from some 70 know Rabbi Weinberg.
>> Mhm.
I would say you know like it was very
frail
then um
basically I'm remembering now from Musaf
Mah would be the second day would be
upstairs because before Fabangan you
have to set up downstairs for Fabangan
so down upstairs
and here was Tash just for Fangan
So it's very hard. Yeah,
it
>> was hard to know to
>> No, no, just um
you know to be by the driver's minion
and to catch a police and whatever it
was. It was wasn't easy.
Generally this I heard um one of my
teachers years before they say that the
Rashana didn't sleep
two nights. They say the Reb's voice was
weaker on Rashashana. Generally the
Rashana in later years it changed and
generally was nonunimmer
and other short usually later changed.
They started saying more
especially mandal was a very strange um
happening.
It was the first time for years the Reb
asked that there should be Paris ma then
Friday.
So before before the rebc came into
fabangan
surik was um explaining the halakus of
paris mappa what you have to do I mean
it's not really much to do but you
listen to kadesh if you already said by
paragraph during the suda so you don't
say it by kadesh you have to cover over
the kala
where they mappa and he was explaining
all the denim
and they A I don't remember when exactly
I heard that but they say that the Reb
said he has a lot more to speak a lot
more to say and therefore he wanted the
should be mapping
could go a little longer.
So I can't say I understand that because
the Reb himself wouldn't be anyway
meaning
not to be peris
look a little bit about that
there's a big har from the
about being parisa but generally the mak
not to be parisa
but the wanted the am at least should be
pisa
that gives a longer leeway Wait, I don't
know exactly what that means.
>> Interesting is also that after the did
not do that,
>> right?
>> And because that's very simple because
needed to
>> that's after me. The only time after was
it was
but I'll get to that if you want. I'll
get that maybe if I remember that was
mentions that we stopped doing that
>> right everyone always asks this
>> is gracious right
>> every
Friday
>> I'm wondering if says
as a min or just we stop doing it
>> or maybe there's a difference by the as
opposed to in your own home whatever
>> I think the words in in the I think it
says um
or to we stopped doing this
however it was. So this time the reb
wanted to free Paris mappa.
So it came the time to Paris Mappa.
So the reb
was the old Tulvski
Tulvski he got up and said kesh I don't
know what he was doing and I don't
understand what the mixup was. there was
something going on and he like was
getting mixed up between them
or I don't know what I didn't understand
what was going on and were laughing and
especially the guests like and there was
getting upset and the Reb said um to him
And for some reason, Rabbi Menlik wasn't
telling him what to do.
Like as if it looked to me like he's
afraid to talk in front of the Reb.
Just something wasn't working out. And
there was not happy
most knowing that the Reb is not going
to eat anyway.
There was not going to eat after it's
not from the So did not end up eating. A
few people did. But there did something
then that he never ever he never did in
such a before or after which was when by
benching the added
and the explained himself
that um
because there are people here who ate
Shabas. So therefore since it's a place
which
the is not so bad after the fourth so
that's why the said
even though he didn't say because he
didn't say after
and then there was said that the he'll
give out the next night
>> so there's two fabans then
>> so No, no, not matzabas.
The didn't say matzabas. Let me recap
again.
>> At the end of the said,
that's what Reb said. Until then, it was
always usual that the Reb would give out
if was Friday. You're not allowed to
drink after benching before kadesh. So
the Reb would give out
the next day after Shabbat Shu
the Reb said
the next day was a regular Shabbat
Shuang 1:30
and at the end of Fabang the Muskim took
out the Kis of wine from yesterday
thought the Reb was going to give out
like the Reb did till then every time
was such a kus
even
then there was a thing that uh people
didn't want to go and trouble the rebba
to go you know so somebody announced
and the reb said leave the alone and let
everybody come to get
>> I think the is stronger now
>> yeah but it was twice it was llas and
malaf I'm not going to go into it now
and I wasn't here anyway so I'm not
going to
>> I'm not going to go into that But um
but the Reb always gave out
Shabas's day. I was actually hoping to
see that. I want to see the giving out
during the day. But here the Reb
surprised everyone and the Reb said
there's going to be another Suda another
>> but the Reb never did it. I mean
>> that was the first time the ever gave up
a day.
>> Yeah. Always whenever it was the first
whenever it was such a Roshashana was
Friday. Second on a Friday.
>> So the gave out the
shabu day
>> middle of the day.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> There were other years I think that the
Reb gave out
fromash.
I don't know exactly which year I've
seen it.
>> I think in the early years
happened
>> different. Yeah.
>> Differently more often. Whatever
>> my said uh told me he remembers in the
yuds as such there would wash the signal
there was niggan there would bench give
out and then was the m
>> interesting okay so this is said there's
going to be finished the said there's
going to be a second
>> going to be another and there wasn't
even enough for everybody you know you
weren't ready for it in fact the sent
out matas from his room for himself to
wash.
>> So essentially there were two
that year.
>> Yeah. But from then on that was the
>> mdal
and nunal there was there was wasn't the
first ring Friday
>> Friday evening.
>> So there three
>> but until then it happened meal
mdalad and me and me
>> three fablings.
>> Yeah.
So it was herang Friday evening on
Shabas's day there was two two fangans
um
I'm saying that gave matas from his room
there was weren't ready for it was
>> um and then came out was from the three
kis I three kises whatever the reb used
I mean there was a kabra from Friday
and from Shabas Shud's time and also
there was made havala
and the it's like three three times
there we used and there we gave from
that
was matzah
shabas
was a very how we would
>> um
tashim as I mentioned before was a very
frailash
and there was started the niggan after
each
all four times as far as I know
on um
Shashana first of the if you listen to
the recording it's very upbeat in a tone
which the never usually uses
That's a beautiful
very upbeat um tune on the and it's very
frail in I heard from people who were
who um went over I think I didn't go
over then
but I heard from people who went over
they say the reb was singing loudly with
>> it was very almost everything wasn't
that long then I think it was about an
hour
there was almost every niggan besides
and then there was almost every single
niggan towards the end they were singing
what's now known as
and the middle of the reb said they
should sing um or shrine something um
>> they were singing the
>> sing and the and the mimer the draco the
mimer
So uh the Reb said they should shrine
something they should say
and so the Reb wanted them to add the
words
>> to the I started going the
was there he didn't used to be for but
he came right away he had the
but he came was there
and he's trying to him and they was
interesting was backwards and forwards
and he was trying to put the words to
the song. I think he had like a maxer.
He was like looking at it.
>> Could be. There's a video. Afraid took
the video
and um it was interesting because when
he started to catch on and middle went
like this. So the whole started to join
in and then he couldn't hear him. So it
wasn't working out very well. And middle
the Reb says to him,
you say over words. You repeat words
like
you say the words and then you say
again. So here the says you could add
the words not says you say the words of
add in those words and say words of the
and say again
afterwards
>> I don't think that's how it came out. uh
after was thinking how it could have
worked but it didn't work that well
>> and then the Reb says to him is
compositor
>> you're a composer
>> and uh it was trying again trying again
in the end the Reb says to him
something like that
>> if you sing
you'll do better so uh he started saying
put down
And the Reb started
I would say generally there is you know
it takes one way either waving his hand
or clapping his hands but here there was
doing all kinds of it's an unbelievable
scene I can't forget it even though
there's a video you could see Mish
>> yeah there's a whole video of it
>> yeah he he's missing on the video I saw
Franen in the middle of the singing he
had to change his film
>> he had to change his film he always had
to change a film in the middle of
something exciting
>> but Um it slowly has quite a bit though.
>> They when Jem produced that video they
had a whole the narrators has a whole
background that Freedom brought these
videos
he would show them. He do like a public
viewing.
>> Yeah. I remember he would do that. Yeah.
>> And he said and they say that when he
showed this video
this like that
>> Yeah.
>> It was like a big it was two years after
you know. So they don't know. I mean it
was like wow the is
>> stronger than ever. It's a very special
clip.
>> Yeah.
Any that was also like a very frail.
So that was like the culmination but the
reb made so frail reminded of some
the strength the reb was the
and just before the reb went out the
then the g whoever's left it wasn't much
another few minutes as left with a
strong wave three. Ah yeah like very
very strong. I mean the audio is there.
You have the he doesn't have that p that
piece on the video.
So after dancing I didn't even remember
but I I actually found myself dancing in
the after they were left and so dancing
I don't know how long but so very frail.
Anyway, so that was um Sunday night.
Monday was some gadalia
generally I think a fast day was serious
but Tuesday
um was a very strange thing. The Reb
came into
I would say a half smile on his face
which is unusual. There was never came
to was usually serious came in like a
half smile. It was very interesting.
And then after
they have a turnaround and also the half
smile
wow singing in a week days it's not
shabas after start but here in a week
day after
and did that Tuesday and Wednesday
after turn around say whoa
Thursday he was off the art site so
there was like I would say very serious
And um
I'm just remembering it's even in the
video also
who had the I think maybe Dr. Zelix Dr.
Alex probably
he took it's extremely heavy
I mean he almost dropped it. It was like
very hard to him there but like quarted
from him almost.
And the casser went crooked. It was like
very
So I remember the Reb like standing like
gave the sifter a shake and the casser
>> straightened itself
>> while he was hold while the other person
was
>> No, no, no. The Reb
>> the Reb grabbed the
>> Reb grabbed it from him. Then the Reb
gave a shake and kaser sat down onto the
was extremely heavy. After they wouldn't
let the rebba carry
and the rebba actually stopped giving
the hayra when to use it say you're not
listening to me anyway but they would
not whenever the rebba had the yardite
they would not want the rebba to slap
the s it's extremely heavy
>> so the
>> I mean I've tried that I can't carry it
like
>> because of that the said I'm stop not
giving
>> yeah that's what I heard the the said
you're not listening to me anyway and
He stopped giving a when to use it. They
continued to use every year of the pag
every special date they'd use.
>> That's when they started giving the
the
>> small. Yeah. The
>> also um a shabas was to use mash.
So they would use it also by mka and
givea
didn't always get aliyah by mka but
because they use the from so the didn't
get aliyah on
so they would lean again by
the aliyah
if they use a different gave the aliyah
they
did the whole from the from the small
Um yeah from
interesting okay
>> yeah
okay
>> no I wouldn't say that if they used by
by used by I'm not saying
>> but the doesn't carry
>> right so they gave a small one they
didn't use I'm saying if it was a a
different kind of shabas
whatever
whatever it
If they would use mash cafeter by shak.
So the second cifhater was always the
small cifhater. So by they would use
again if there
>> and then the so the should have ali
actually I remember
good friend of mine
um
from
standing next to me
I don't know what he noticed but in
middle if I bringish
he asked me does the say on
maybe he noticed the reb I don't know
but um I said no because usually the
doesn't say and right after that I see
the nodding to sing again
and again was
they actually didn't know when the
fabang shabu would be because matzah
shabas is kipper so it's going to be the
kaparas and everything so there was
media that on Friday the fbrang is going
to be in shabas not matzah shabas
from then on
half the fbrangans were shabas half
mozzar shabas until shabas when there
was media from now on all fangans are
back to shabas now moz shabas
anyway Um
Zion I actually was in the suka when the
reba came out for kaparus can't say I
saw much but I remember the coming out
was full was pushy I didn't see that
much but
>> why did it move later to the front you
don't know do you know
>> I'm not sure it was only I think one
year or two years
>> yeah from base probably I don't
I remember seeing the Reb's face but I'm
not sure if I saw the
>> Yeah. When the Reb came to theapar
or make it clear the kaparus itself the
dead in his room. Nobody ever saw that
even Kir were not in there when the Reb
did that
>> right. I think the chicken was delivered
to the Reb's room.
>> Could be
>> and then the Reb would do it and come
out with it. Yeah. Something like
>> Yeah. I don't know. Exactly. Well, the
Reb came out holding the chicken. It was
always amazing. You see the videos also
the Reb holds a chicken. Chicken's
perfectly silent. As soon as he gives
the sh that starts squawking
also the as he would sh you know is
watching would give a slight shudder
every time as he sh it. In fact, you can
even notice it when when um puts after
he finished shifting and he puts the
chicken into the
garbage can, you know, and the chicken's
knocking around and you see the rubbers
are very uncomfortable
and um
he would he right away right after he
would pluck some feathers. I give it to
the Reba to um to do the braha. But he
would check the before and after.
Immediately
>> he tell the
>> common I don't know if he told her
anything but he would check the
>> because that's what he's supposed to do
by the way.
>> Yeah. Before and after. And so that's
the hither
was very much.
So, um,
and then there was a line for
>> and also theb
I tried to look in the videos like the
seem like the reb's doing like dalis
like I don't know like one
>> yeah it just seems to take him from all
sides. Yeah.
>> Mhm.
>> Yeah. Backwards and forwards
and then they started standing in line
for which took a long time.
It's the first time I was here for and
they asked
>> yeah they asked the not to take more
than one not to ask for anyone else.
So then I think that stopped the asking
for someone else
but they gave numbers and the reba
thanked the
sada afterwards because of numbers it
came easier.
>> There was numbers for lack of
>> yeah that year anyway
>> you got a ticket. Yeah, I take it with
numbers. It say went easier because if
you know what number you are, you you're
less hesitant, you know, you go. So it
it made it made it faster for the Reb
and the Reb would always tell before.
So there would the the tray of cake tray
loads of trays would be inside the room
and for every person the would take a
piece and give they would look take a
piece
but each person they would look at them
turn into his room take the pieces you
know backwards and forwards
they claim this I heard once a sara that
person there was not like a a waiter a
server you know serving food but was a
lot easier when later after so the tray
is in front of the was just
>> giving from the tray
>> thing with like that
>> yeah it seemed like you know is not
giving you he's not a server giving food
he's like
>> right
>> but it became easier
>> they had the train in front of the
>> train in front of the driver gives you
peace he doesn't have to turn that much
and
>> so it went to a certain extent it went
faster there.
So whatever you stood in line for when
you have the two sudas then you come
back to push for a catch a place for um
the braha to the bra.
Okay. After the braha downstairs
>> after Mina was a braha to Anash
they say the reb didn't those years the
didn't like the microphone
this was years that it went like that to
the microphone should take it away
>> the whole thing changed because it used
to be
>> used to beha me was the first time was
aha
>> then became a and a regular
>> then became a long me I think
>> in the earliest I would get on top of
the table
>> yeah that's
>> pictures of Yeah, there a video of
>> a table. Whatever. It's higher.
>> He go went up onto something. Yeah, it
could be. I heard there was a table,
but afterwards
it became a me I think was a like over
an hour.
>> Yeah.
>> Ara like
people barely had time pressure to go
run home and come back. You know, you
want to go to mikvah before again. It
was like then I remember the
So um after the braha to anash so
remember they held the microphone at the
side
and as the went to the side of the
standender and as he closed his eyes see
the braha then they put the microphone
close he was holding it whoever it was
kasin maybe was holding it close to to
on a stick so he doesn't have to be
close to the you know and Uh
the tone is different. Tone of a is
different than a
think that ever stressed that many
years.
And right after that ran upstairs to
catch a place for the bra
>> for the
>> for the broom. I ran out and um I came
you know on time
said they're opening the door a certain
time it was I think 15 minutes before
mention they didn't want too much
pushing there's a whole other story I'm
not going to get into that now but there
was years when the complained that the
bah pushed for so long that they they
didn't have time to eat enough seconds
yeah because the bahim were wait oh he's
saying amal was open and people were sit
there the whole day
>> and the rabb was not happy was not happy
that not eating but you know cuz they
were hopping a place. So they made a
rule
>> that the door is locked
>> right. So they would open it up like 15
minutes before
>> that whole thing where everyone
stampedes into into the room
>> because tash was another thing. So you
started use
when the brah keer moved first it wasn't
there of his room for the first 10 years
nine years until it became impossible in
there. But what happened was the light
switch went on and off.
So um the M was disturbed. the next year
went out to get so there's more room
standing there and on the stairs
until moved into the
so it's like every 10 years they had to
make a change was impossible and I just
want to describe what's like when I
describe it going into the kipper
and uh people just coming in and coming
in and coming in and they took out all
the furniture the only piece of
furniture which was left was like two
tables or four tables in um what do you
call it soften side I would say next to
mascus where the reb came in so they had
the rubbish stander on top of the tables
put a carpet on top of it also and there
would go up and stand on the tables
besides that was place is empty only the
bimma which they I think they couldn't
take it out
>> has bimma
>> no not just armor the the bimma
>> it was stuck the floor.
>> It was too big to go out of the door. I
don't think they could move it.
>> So, they put it near the second door,
you know, near the kazin.
>> I think it was there and guys would
stand on there.
But besides that, there was uh empty
and there's like
six huge fans. I mean, the air
conditioner there was not strong enough
for such a three huge fans on both
sides. Makes such a noise. But you
needed to blow the air through.
I'm just place is just filling up and
filling up and filling up filling up and
I'm short. So I'm trying to catch my
hat. So my hands like this and I'm
catching my hat and the place is getting
fuller and fuller and fuller
and I feel my hand is like squashing my
chest like it's hurting. I I felt like
you know the the I don't know I managed
to move with a drop. It's crazy. You
know, push pushing pushing and pushing.
It's It's not pushing, it's just
squashed. And the guy right next to me,
don't forget he not standing in lines.
Wherever there's a a centimeter of
space, you know, there's somebody there.
And the guy right next to me, his hands
were down. And there's no way he could
pick his hands up and, you know,
shvitzing this and his glasses just slid
off and they fell down. It doesn't go
onto the floor. It dropped down over
here. He says, "Do me a favor. Could you
put my glasses on?"
So, I'm like, you know, barely able to
move my hand and I pick up his glasses
and managed to hook it onto this ear,
which is close to me, but I can't reach
the other ear.
I tried a few times and it's like in the
end he said, "Yeah, forget about it.
What can you do?" There's nothing you
can do, you know? It's like
>> your hands are wherever they're locked.
Your you cannot pick your hands up. Your
>> your eyes are squashed. doing like no
moving. Then there became a sh came in.
As soon as every came in, they unplugged
all the fans cuz you wouldn't be able to
hear a word. So they unplugged all the
fans. Then it got hot.
>> But it uh whatever the re's there. I
wasn't able to see anything, but at
least I'm in the same room.
>> You could hear that?
>> Yeah, I could hear I could hear.
I can't say I caught the braha cuz I
wasn't used to this type of pushing.
takes a different type of concentration
to be able to listen even though there's
pushing but the words are very
interesting listen over to the recording
afterwards
like the
was the first year the Reb allowed a
speaker so they hid the microphone under
the stander there was a speaker in the
hall and maybe in the
started using the
>> could hear something.
>> I think the was for the younger
>> that started later then did the should
be
>> so those years was every bak was yeah
that's why I was a young bak was 15 so
the whole thing I was in there
>> the whole thing that only the older
>> only after started
>> then they changed and say so when I came
I was in the outside it was disaster and
the people pushing there for an hour
before
And even that doesn't help me because
I'm not good at pushing and I found
myself on the outskirts could not and
also came out very late
came out I don't know
maybe 10 uh I don't know 7 minutes 10
minutes after
they came out very late and the whoever
was inside they disconnected the
microphone because they thought it's
they thought it's you know it's going to
be already so there's no microphone
The Reb spoke louder than usual. The Reb
heard there's no microphone, no speaker
and spoke louder than usual. I just
heard in the I just heard hum of the
Reb's voice. All I remember at the end I
heard can hear that I heard clearly.
Besides I couldn't hear a word but they
recorded it.
They say whoever held the
held the tape recorder. So he said, "The
Reb finished two and a half minutes of
Porsches." Okay, we rely on him. Tape
came out. So obviously it was in Porsche
and uh there's a recording
you hear crying in the middle of
one of screaming. I don't know. It was
on top of the roof the
didn't have but the beams were there.
>> Okay.
>> And he was on top of the beams and he
was like I don't know what happened.
some screams. So they never stopped in
the middle
>> middle of the
>> in middle of the
>> but um
a talking what's going to happen but one
of the things that came out from then
that they would block the suka also no
more than 15 minutes before mention
shouldn't shouldn't have pushing like
that like there was pushing for an hour
it's crazy before
I kipper I mean you know Anyway,
I have a different uh
for me the best was mdalat. I was ready
from the age 22 and the kutza could be
in the back room. Sheni was the best.
They took out that window where the
swarm is are
and uh
they put in all the benches from the
from the z into the khadesi put planks
of wood on top of them. So you're
standing high. So I could see so well.
>> That's interesting. That's the best
place
>> for me. That was the
>> unless your mom is in front. Yeah.
>> Yeah. For me that was the best. So mom
is able to see and the reb came in for
some reason I don't know why they put a
a microphone
in front of the Reb was like why you
putting a microphone there? I mean as
every went up the stairs and he came to
onto the table and there sees a
microphone right in front of the stand
there and there but like stopped and you
know like made his shoulders what is
this there's a video of it and
immediately bakar came up and
>> so what's the problem is
>> there wasn't yontik but it's um
for after mention
>> righthu okay
>> so like so immediately bakar jumped up
and pulled down the microphone but there
was another hidden microphone under the
standard. I don't know what he was
trying to prove, but whatever.
There's a recording, but I'm saying he
shouldn't have done that. Put a
microphone there.
Some years the Reb would pull the talis
over his face and some years just left
um
>> his tal on top just without putting it
down.
But it always felt very special the
braha to the bahim there was to the
bakim in a way like uh
I don't think it was another yakas
during the year da to bahim like that
okay later it's clawless that's to tell
them from outside New York or outside
America
>> in the first year the said the rebba
started it the premise for doing it is
the
So this is the kind that's basically
what it is. It was a very very special
feeling for that
and Kipper itself was very peaceful I
say calm you know especially the night
of the
very calming by
>> I didn't always see because after the
till I got down I didn't see much but
there was
which was kind of an interesting thing.
It's a separate story, but I probably
printed once. I don't know cuz a few
days before in Kipper
the the Arabs went into um Mars Yakavino
they destroyed the place I think they
ripped up two and they were
and there was very upset about it. They
say this is written down with Gash
Jacobson when he went by the Reb
on Kipper told him it's still before see
if you can get some more details what
happened over there
and it seemed to bother very much and
there continued talk about it both
um
whatever means
and then uh by day in shious
but there was a a whole heap but it
began in kipper the night of iniper so
after ding you see tumm usually there
would go out after finished till stood
maybe half hour after the finished
was for form but after he finished he
didn't go especially fast but the reb
seemed like it was going very slow
half hour after uh hasn't finished the
Reb is still saying
and uh
again the during a keer day there's not
much happening the didn't even have ma
on on whatever shak
>> so by um so there's nothing much
happening during the day
is like the lowest key point with
>> yeah no
to be a whole day with it was
>> yeah peaceful Oh,
>> and then the a few times. Yeah.
>> But after I mean I loved um
>> Mhm.
there would go.
>> Yeah. There's a certain uh
>> so by this know there was a
>> certain house
>> that wants to know what time is
>> you know
>> but it's a I love the way that I did
that especially
then um then after the break or during
the break start hopping places for the
march because that was the the highlight
this time it was the middle of nila
And something happened with the kids. I
don't know exactly what and the Reb
turned and he asked the
asking
he misunderstood. He thought that there
wants everybody to leave the area of the
Amad. So he screamed also
go away and then they understood that
the kids who were there they wanted them
to come onto Bimma. So a bunch of kids
maybe there 30 40 kids exactly and they
stood near the wall. Now usually when
the reban so he bangs with his left hand
on the stander so the whole island could
see but here because the kids are
standing on the right so with his left
hand the rebanged on the stander with
the right hand he turned to the kids I
think it was ha but at sure that they
would meet them very strongly with his
hand to the kids they should sing
and um at the end of um sim shalom after
khazar sash shots. The reb asked the
kazan to wait and the reb asked to all
kids under braitzu who were able to dav
should come to his place
started a whole and in the back I was
like more near the
so the message didn't get there exactly
heard the
kids you know even before I remember and
on the table which is blocking the from
pushing too close to the bam standing on
there holding kids They have to send
them back to the parents because they're
one of the only kids who could dav.
>> Mhm.
>> And they're waited. But they say that
the rebels then crying.
I heard in the name of Rab Groner. He
never saw the crying like that. Like
five minutes sobbing.
And uh one of the kids who was there
says uh he saw there were crying like
that. He started crying. So they heard
him crying there looked at him and
smiled.
But um
I mean after all the kids gathered
started a V volcano.
I mean I would say there wasn't a dry
eye in the sh. It was like you could
sense something happening in volcano
again. Even though as years went on they
would say the sing of volcano by over
and over.
>> Mhm.
>> It was like uh by by the time like five
times by the fifth time there was
throwing himself backwards and forwards.
Ah yeah yeah you know and then the
island was like I saw her
and after volcano
so then the start kadesh in the march
so the um so here because all the kids
are there so they were grown instead of
having the kids should push around the
rebber from all sides so you pull the
rubber stander all the way to the left
so the kids are near the wall Um but
only on one side of the urban so you
know because it's
so the chair was right at the edge of
the bimma closest to the kan then the
stand there I didn't notice this p
somebody told me he said he put the
chair with the back of the chair to the
so that it went like this he should turn
the chair the other way so the reb
should be able to get up on the chair
>> Napoleon's march
>> yeah
and he comes to Napoleon's march and the
goes like this his hand on their
standard they should um start singing in
the pro and then I was standing and
there was straightening his talis
straightening and straightening and
straightening it looked at me like there
was
it's hard for him to go up I don't know
a long time he's just straightening his
tongue straightening straightening
finally the put his left hand on his
right hand on the stander and stepped up
onto the chair and a little bit the
rebed
waved his hand backwards and forwards a
few times and then there went down it's
very short. Even though I'd never been
there before, it still sounded to me
like it was short. Lier, what I heard
from previous years, the other years it
was lot longer.
>> Yeah.
>> I mean, uh I remember later years.
>> I don't know. Not sure what year they
started putting the stairs there. It's a
lot safer for the rabbit.
They put the stairs I think.
Anyway, there went up on the
one on the stairs. I just remember that
sear there was most of there was the
talis was covering there's face
completely and there would clap like
almost from inside the talis there may
electric electricity in the air you know
it's like the the island was like the
march was unbelievable
and I said this time was short and I'm
not getting to but
no we're getting there now so then this
matim
and keeper with the you know three
times.
I think it was almost always was
>> and the last few years was um
>> by the way was the only time that the
made people fast a little longer because
of this thing the kids
>> otherwise there was very mock
>> they say the the reb would have a watch
on his stander
>> right
>> so you shouldn't go over the time
>> and um no the the later years it was um
rabbi started singing his father's name
>> father's
And also and also the Reb would come
into with his hat,
right?
>> Yeah. Most times, even though I heard
that me I wasn't there, I was by I heard
that Me
actually walked into Mena with a talis,
not with a hat. So right after a
bridge's place asked
um
the schlapper, they were called a hit
schlapper.
>> Schlapper. Yeah. So he said, so he said
yes. I guess he was thinking
>> they would always say they even say some
was having heart attack.
>> So there was
the
always
>> and then the would um would take the hat
off and put in the in the drawer and
stand there and take it off.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Okay. There's different there's
differences from the year when they
would put on his hat.
>> Some years they would they take it off
till after till after
>> and later years started putting on early
sometimes even by kav
put on the hat. Um and the thing that
writes in
this
would come into and he writes if I
remember correct and if I remember
correctly this to come with the recorded
by the with that word schlapp
but it's interesting in the spoke about
it one of the sudas also that the a year
which I guess there was especially
meticulous in writing down the freed
hagus says
his talis was not on top of his head. So
even though in his ears people
cover the put the talis on the head here
the fre the didn't the reb says I didn't
know if there's a meaning for barabim or
not so I didn't write it in the men and
hug him but nevertheless it's a
>> right
>> then will go upstairs and there'll be
keshana what
>> there'll be keshana
>> yeah keshana is outside there kesana is
there's a picture actually wrote on
Um
smiling. I don't know exactly what
happened. And the Reb wrote in the back
of the picture.
>> That's the one from down
>> could be
>> that the angle is from down.
>> Yeah, maybe smiling because angle. I
don't know.
>> Yeah, there's a story about it.
>> Is so kipper.
