Shalom and my blessings to all!
Today we are going to talk about the ''Qriyat Shema'' before bedtime....
What is this thing called Qriyat Shema before bedtime?...
Every one, according to Judaism...When they go to sleep, their soul rises up to heaven...
There were many righteous tzaddikim whose souls went up to heaven and they saw many things...
And remembered those things after waking up and due to this they knew about the future and things that were ordained in heaven to happen...
The soul, after rising up....Many times it meets with harmful demons and forces of impurity that they created by sinning...
At this stage...The soul gets scared and this reflects in the dreams a person dreams...
The person dreams that he is being chased by those demons trying to harm him or that someone dies etc....
This is one of the ways that through dreams the demons come to a person...
When a person goes to sleep, and the soul leaves...The demons want to come and harm that person...
Therefore, the Creator of the World who wants to protect and guard us...
In order for a person to sleep peacefully and that the demons and spirits don't harm him at all...And bad dreams don't come to him....
So, the Creator of the World tells us to read Qriyat Shema!
Everyone that reads the Qriyat Shema...
This same Qriyat Shema with all its strength...
If the person reads the Qriyat Shema with the right intention and meaning...They kill thousands of these evil spirits that were created due to his sins!
There is a blessing that we say before a person goes to sleep...
''Birkat Hamapil''...
''Blessed are you Lord, G-d of the Universe...Who casts bonds of sleep upon my eyes and slumber upon my eyelids...''
We thank HaShem for the sleep!...
A person that doesn't sleep will become mad!...
There is a story of about 150 years ago...
There was a soldier in the French army...Who, in one of the battles they had with the Russians...
He got shot and that brain injury caused him to be unable to sleep...
Not that he could not sleep...He just did not have the need to !...
Meaning that he was traumatized to the point that he couldn't sleep at all...
This same soldier, after a month, committed suicide...
Not that his body had became sick...He just couldn't stand his brain working 24 hours a day nonstop...
The whole time the brain is working and thoughts come nonstop...
So when a person goes to sleep, he has peace and tranquility from these thoughts...
This is a kindness from HaShem!...That a person goes to sleep...That his brain is able to sort out and organize thoughts...
So when a person wakes up and starts anew the things he had left yesterday...
He is able to continue from where he left off yesterday...
But if a person has no break for 24 hours straight...This is a great danger...
A person can go insane and can harm himself out of frustration and many other things...
This is just like what the soldier did to himself!
So this is another lesson for us...That even for sleep we must be grateful to the Creator of the World...
This is something very important for ourselves...
Without sleep...A person can try to go without sleep maybe one night, two nights or three nights...
But they will become crazy and frustrated!
So when we come to thank the Creator of the World for the ability to sleep...
Think how many people don't have a bed and can't sleep...
They don't even have a proper place to sleep...
How many people can't sleep due to the pain and stress they have?...
How many people can't sleep due to the loud noises that their neighbors make?...
They find themselves in hostile surroundings...They can't sleep due to mosquito bites or other chaos and many other problems...
How many people can't sleep because of the debts that they have to eventually pay?...
And this thing causes them to have sleep disorders!
So if you have the ability to sleep...Thank the Creator!
The Creator of this World gave you the ability to sleep...
So please...Thank Him!
Please say the blessing...''Blessed are you Lord, G-d of the Universe...Who casts bonds of sleep upon my eyes and slumber upon my eyelids...''
Just as written in the Siddur (prayer books)...
And before that, a person should say Qriyat Shema!
When a person says Qriyat Shema...Due to this he destroys all the evil spirits!
this puts a special protection on him...protection from evil spirits, demons, bad dreams, scary dreams and dreams that are problematic ...
This way everyone that wants to save themselves from bad dreams...
Should say Qriyat Shema with full intention and say the Birkat Hamapil...So then he will sleep like a baby...Relaxed and quiet...And will wake up anew...
And so his evil inclination and all the demons will leave him...
saying "this person that read Qriyat Shema is not under our jurisdiction, we can't harm him"
Even though the nighttime is under the influence of demons...
Their power increases and strengthens...
A person that reads Qriyat Shema needs not fear them!
So let us all together...before sleeping...
Take upon ourselves something small...
To read Qriyat Shema and thank the Creator of the World for sleep !
And so the Creator of the World will bestow upon us blessings and many other things...
Because the one who thanks the Creator of the World...The Creator gives back even more and more and more !
