Join us as we explore and say Shema in different, unique Shuls around the world. Next stop: Neue Synagogue The Neue Synagogue in Berlin, completed in 1866, was built in a distinctive Moorish style with a prominent golden dome and space for more than 3,000 worshipers. During Kristallnacht in 1938, the synagogue was set on fire, but it survived the destruction that swept across so many Jewish institutions. In the 1990s, parts of the building were restored and it reopened as the Centrum Judaicum, functioning as both a museum and a synagogue. Visitors today can explore exhibits that trace the history of Jewish life in Berlin — from the flourishing community of the 1870s, through the Holocaust, to the rebirth in the decades that followed. The Neue Synagogue stands as a clear marker of memory, resilience, and renewal in the heart of Berlin.
