You can spend hours here, and all the
attractions and refreshments are free.
I didn't believe it until I came to see
for myself. Every year during the
intermediate days of Sukkot, the Jewish
Quarter in Jerusalem becomes a golden
attraction. Tens of thousands of Jews
make a pilgrimage and are met with
incredibly pampering hospitality. The
Ministry of Jerusalem and Israel
Tradition, through the Company for the
Reconstruction and Development of the
Jewish Quarter, set up luxurious
complexes, including the world’s
largest Chazon Ish Sukkah alongside
hospitality booths with coffee stations
, staff, and comfortable
air-conditioned seating areas. There
are also drinking stations along the
entire route and plenty of free
attractions: from a large, expanded
observation deck on the roof of the
Yeshiva of the Western Wall to really
see the plaza and the Temple site,
through the historic Hurva Synagogue
and the overlook of the entire Quarter,
and even the Wohl Archaeological Museum
which is open to everyone, plus
colorful klezmer musicians and musical
instruments. Everything is free, and
full of fun and comfort. Take the car,
or better yet the light rail, and come
make the pilgrimage.
