I once saw such an amazing insight I'd like to share with you. Or Gedaliah of Gedaliah Shaw writes the following. We find in Parshat Bereishit the creation of the most important creature, which is the man himself. >> [music] >> The possuk says "Vayeitzer Elohim Hashem Elokim et ha'adam." And God Almighty created the man. The word "Vayeitzer" has two yuds. [music] But strangely enough, when it comes to animals, it says "Vayeitzer" same word with one yud. >> [music] >> Why is that? Our sages tell us because a human being has [music] both this world and the next. An animal only lives in this world. >> [music] >> So, the Rav Gedaliah Shaw adds, "What is What does that mean practically for us? That person could only live mainly [music] for one world. Are you living for this world or you live for the next world? Well, let's see. Let's take a look at your life. Are you mostly involved with physical things for the sake of them? Cuz you enjoy having luxury cars, big houses, newest [music] styles, um luxurious clothing, and uh going to restaurants all the time? Is that what your life is mostly like? Then you are living like an animal with the yud of this world. [music] But if you are primarily living for the next world, again, there's nothing wrong with enjoying um beautiful things and luxurious and and fancy things as long as you are mostly living for the next world. What does that mean? What is your primary focus? To get the more out of this world, to get more pleasure, kaif, this kind of things? Or you understand that this world is not really >> [music] >> uh the most important thing. I'm headed to the next world. I want to do more mitzvot, I want to learn Torah. I have to attend shiurim, things like that. Then it's okay to have this world as well. A person really could have both. But he He to have a focus on one. >> [music] >> What is the most important thing for you? Is it this world or the next? If you subconsciously understand the next world is more important, but you kind of living for this [music] world, that means you're not balanced. It means you're not really doing what your heart and your soul tells you. So, how do you get there? How do you live mostly for the next world? It's by learning Torah. All of what we do comes from our knowledge, how we understand life, what we stand to be right and wrong. Sometimes we think that something is right, but it's really wrong. Sometimes we do something we think is is wrong, it's really right. So, it depends on how much you know, how much you understand. For that, we need to connect ourselves to the Torah.
