[Music] Ah! Dr. Schnitz is really enjoying this most beautiful sunny day. It's a little bit breezy and the sun is shining. Oh, wait a second. Hold on. Where is my green? Here. There you are. I almost didn't see you in the beautiful green bushes. Talking about bushes. H the sun shines down and it makes everything warm. It makes everything grow. Hashem makes that the sun should give energy to the beautiful leaves that we have over here. And the trees grow bigger and bigger. We have fruits and vegetables, apples and bananas and yummy, yummy sour sticks. No, no, no. Sour sticks is not something that grows from the sun. I don't think. Did you know that we could also use the light of the sun called solar energy to power up different things that we have? For example, here I have two little toy cars. If I want it to go, I have to push it. Otherwise, it's just going to stop. We can take a battery, put it in a car, like a remote control car, and with our little controller, we can make the car go to the right side, to the left side, up and down, and all around. Let me show you what we can do with the light of the sun. In order to capture the solar energy from the sun, we have to have something called a solar panel. Let me show you what a solar panel looks like. Here we have the solar panel and it's connected with these two wires to this little motor. As you can see, the sun is shining and the motor is spinning. What happens if I cover the solar panel? The motor here stops spinning. But watch what happens when I uncover it. See that? Now we cover it. Now we uncover it. We cover it. There's no power going to the little motor. And now we uncover it. So it has solar energy going from the solar panel through the wires to this little motor. We can take this motor and we can put it in a car and make it go. Let's see what happens when we take the car and put it down on the floor. Let's see if the solar light from the sun is going to hit the solar panel and make it go flying all over. The solar panels are beautiful. It captures the light from the sun. But what happens if it becomes dark outside or it gets very cloudy? What do we do? Well, take a look. Our little solar panel car over here has another contraption. Can everybody say contraption? Contraption. You see here the light from the sun is shining down on the solar panel. And check this out. We open it up. Oo. And here we have a battery. It stores the energy from the sun right in here. And it goes out to this little battery over here. So now we can unplug it over here. And check this out. Even if it's a cloudy day or it's nighttime, we can take the battery that has the energy from the sun stored in it and we plug it in just like this. And check this out. It starts to spin. Oh, here we have another kind of solar car. This one is like an old vintage car. Has the mufflers in the back and four big wheels. As the sun shines down on the solar panels, it makes all the gears turn and makes the cars go. Here we have three of our solar powered cars. This is the one we used before, the green one. Here we have this is like an old buggy. And here we have another one. This is an interesting one. This one here is like a wheel. See that? So, what we're going to do is we're going to have a race between all three to see which one will work the fastest. Who thinks this one that's round like a wheel is going to work the fastest? Who thinks Let's put this down over here. Just like that. And who thinks this one, this race car will work fastest? And who thinks this one over here, the buggy, the old fashioned buggy, is going to work the fastest. So, let's put it down. I'm going to block it with my shade so it doesn't start going. Everybody say, "Ready, set, ready, go." Ready, set, ready, go. And oh, the winner is our race car. Solar panels we could also use to power up our house. Our house has solar panels and we're able to save half of our electricity bill just by using the light from the sun that goes into the solar panels and powers up our refrigerator and our light bulbs and all the yummy stuff we have in our house. But here we are and it's beautiful outside. It's sunny. So, if we're going to be walking over here down this path, as you can see over here, it's all litten up. It's beautiful. But what happens when it's nighttime and it's dark outside? Well, for that here, we have a solar panel light. It's very pointy on the bottom here. We could put this inside and all day the sun is going to shine down on top of the solar panel. And in this one here, we have a battery right over here. And this lasts up to 12 hours. So, let's take this and put this right over here. Let's come back at night and see how the whole pathway is litten up. Sh. We have to be very, very quiet. We don't want to wake up our neighbors and the little babies that are sleeping so nicely under their blanket. As you can see, it's quite dark outside and we can see our whole path thanks to our solar panels that we have over here. Many, many years ago before we had electricity, it was very, very dark outside. So, they used to have someone called a lamp lighter. He would have a stick with a fire and he would go from lantern to lantern and there used to be a little wick with oil that would last all night so that when people are walking outside they can see where they're going. Every one of us is like a lamp lighter. We're supposed to go around with the torch of and mitzvah and light up the nishama of every one of our fellow yidden. This was all before We had electricity. Then they ran wires and they had electricity with the invention of the light bulb from Thomas Edison. And now they didn't have to use fire anymore. What they can use is light bulbs to light up the streets. Couple of years ago they came out with solar. We no longer need to use wires to light up our lights in the street poles. Instead, what we do is we put a solar panel there and all day it's taking the light from the sun and it's storing it in the battery and then at night it lights up the night beautifully. Mendy and Mayor, you know, we can have so much fun out in the sun in the summer, but there's a few things we have to take care of before we go out in the sun. Can anyone guess what we need to do to protect ourselves from this very, very strong sun rays? Yes. Um, we need sunglasses. We need sunglasses. That's right. We have over here yummy sunglasses. Mhm. What color do you Yummy? Very yummy. What color do you like? We have her purple. We have her blue. We have green and pink. You want blue. And what color do you like? Green. Green. Okay. Very, very good. Uh, this looks a little bit too small for me. Okay. We're going to leave this over here. So, the first thing we need to do to protect ourselves from the sun is make sure we're wearing good sunglasses. And what's the next thing we need? Yes, sunscreen. Oh, we need to have sunscreen. That's right. Do you guys put on sunscreen in the summer? Yes. Yes, of course. We want to protect the beautiful skin Hashem gave us as a gift. So, let's see. We have over here sunscreen. H I have here 15%. Okay, that's good. Then we have over here 50%. Oh, then we have over here, this is a different company. This is for kids and it's 70%. And here we have 100%. Which one do you think is the strongest that protects our skin from the sun? 100. We have to take sunscreen and we got to put it on on our arms and our legs and any part that's exposed to the sun to make sure that we protect our amazing bodies from the sun. Here I have a very special detector. This is called a UV detector. See? See right over here on the top this over here if you if you press the button it sees how much sunlight UV is shining and it tells us you see either it's very low moderate or high or very high or extreme. If it's very very high or extreme it could really really burn our skin right. So we have to make sure for sure we're wearing good suntan lotion. Yeah. So, should we see how much sun UV is shining now? Yeah. Okay. Let's press the button. Let's see if it goes. And is it going? Oh, what does it say over there? One. One. It says low. It's very, very low. It is sunny, but it's not so sunny that it would burn our skin very, very much. There's something called UV beads. Let me show you what I mean. Over here, look at these beads. You see that? These are called green UV beads. That means that they only turn colors when the sun shines on it. So, if you go outside and you have these beads and they turn colors, what does that mean? It means the sun is shining. The UV rays is shining. We have to put on our suntan lotion. We got to put on our glasses. So, look at the colors we have. Oh, here we have yellow. Look at that. You see over here? It's turning yellow. Let's take a look at this. On this side, it's purple. Let's see how the other side looks where the sun is not shining. It's a little lighter, but now it's getting dark. And look at this here. Oh, over here. It's light yellow, but as the sun shines and it it becomes nice and dark and yellow. And here we have pink and it's white, but oh, do you see that? So fast they turn amazing pink. Who here would like to make a beautiful bracelet or necklace? Okay, here. So, we're going to give you this here. How many pieces do you want? It is going to be for you. Okay. And this is going to be for you over here. You're going to get a whole bunch of yellow. And what other color do you guys want? Uh, you guys want pink? Here. You get a bunch of pink. And a bunch of pink. Good. And what other color do you want? Do you want green? Yeah. Oh, here we have some green. And some more green. Good job. And now, well, look what we're going to do. Dr. Schnitzel is going to take a string like this. See? And here you're going to start putting them on. Okay, this is going to be for you. And you're going to start putting it on as well. And it has a whole bunch of UV beads. It has pink. It has green, blue, and yellow. And what other colors we have? Oh, here's another one. This is a nice one. And oh, look at this. That's really, really nice. And look what I have over here. This is a big necklace. Look at the colors. Should I put it on? If I go outside and it turns colors, it means we need to put on suntan lotion. We need to put on our sunglasses. Sunglasses. But wait a second. What happens if you're swimming in the swimming pool? Maybe if you're in the water, the sun can't shine on our skin and burn us. What do you guys think? Do you think if we're in the water, we don't need to put on suntan lotion? We do. Oh, should we do an experiment? Yeah. Okay. So, look what we have over here. Over here, we have a beautiful little beaker. We are going to fill it up with Watu. Everybody say fill it up with Watu. Ooh, good. Then we're going to take let's take a whole bunch of UV beads. And these ones over here are kind of white. You see these ones over here? They're like white. So, we're going to take them over here and we're going to pour the whole thing inside. And let's see if it turns colorful. Hey, go inside. They're floating to the top. But let's see. What about the ones inside? Even the ones on the bottom are turning pink. Look at that. These ones over here are in the water. Why are they turning pink? Because the sun shines even in the water. So, if you're going swimming, what do you need to do? You need to put on suntan lotions. Okay, look. Mendy did it. And they're so beautiful. Let's tie it around over here. Just like that. We're going to make it nice and tight this way. Meny, you're going to have a sign. Anytime you go outside and the beads turn colorful, what are you going to do? Get sunscreen. You're going to make sure you get sunscreen. Nice sunscreen and sunglasses. Look at that. Beautiful. Oh, are you done as well? Okay, let's tie yours as well. Here you go. One, two, and three. Good job. But wait a second. Who can guess what's inside here? Oh, I took a whole bunch of UV beads. I glued them together on a board and I wrote a very special message. And what do you get? Oh, it says wow. Or if you turn it upside down, it says mom. Look at that. Isn't that amazing? Here we have blue and pink and purple, yellow and orange. Amazing. There's one thing we're missing in order to protect our face from the sun. Who can guess what it is? Sun hats. Sun hats. I'm going to take some sun hats and you're going to tell me if there's a good protection for the sun. Okay. All right. Here we go. Oh, King Antio. Is this a good protection for the sun? No. No. That's not a good protection. Oh, this got to be a very good protection. Is this a good protection? No, it's not a good protection. Okay, let's see. Oh, what about this guy? So, make sure you have your sunglasses and your suntan lotion. And always bring your bracelet over here so you could see if the sun is shining if you need to protect yourself. And of course, a good sun hat. Yay. Oh my gosh, look at our amazing fire. Who wants to make some s'mores? Okay, everybody's going to get their very own stick. Hold on to it. And these are extra long so we can be super careful. You're welcome. Here, hold on to this. And one for Dr. Schnitzle. Now, look what we're going to do. And then we can take chocolate and graham crackers and put it together and we're going to get yummy [Applause] s'mores. chocolate and our marshmallows and make s'mores with fire. But what happens if you don't have fire? What happens if you only have the sun? Do you think it's possible to make s'mores just using the energy of the sun? Let's go see if we can make an oven using the energy of the sun. Uri and Jack, we are now going to make a solar oven. Who's excited? Yeah. Amazing. So, what we're going to need, and you can do this in your house, you're going to need a pizza box. a ruler. We're going to have a skewer. Here I have very, very long skewers, but you're going to need a skewer. You can also use a small one. You're going to need black tape. You're going to need a sharp razor, but for this you have to have your parents do this part for you. This is very, very dangerous. Okay. A marker. We're going to have some silver foil, some regular Saran wrap. We're going to use some saran wrap. And of course, we're going to need black paper. Now, who can guess what color in the sun gets the hottest? Black. Black. That is correct. The first thing we're going to do is we're going to take our ruler and we're going to take our marker. We are going to make a line just about here. 2 in from the side going down like this. We're going to stop 2 in beforehand. We're going to go to the other side. And we are going to make another line just like that. Beautiful. Then we're going to go at the front where it opens it up. See, not the back, the front. And we're going to make we're going to put the ruler there and we're going to make another line. Beautiful. See that? It looks like like a door frame or a right now. What we're going to do is we're going to take our razor blade. Again, this part only an adult can do that. And we're going to cut on the line just like this. Watch. See? We're going to go like that. And all the way, not till the end, but 2 in before the end until the the line stops. Right there. We're going to do the same thing over here. We are going to cut. Let's put a little bit closer. We're going to cut on the line just like this. Oh yeah. Oh, this is hard. So, watch your fingers. Be very careful. Just about there. Now, we're going to do the last side, the top. Just like that. Ooh, this is going to be amazing. I can't wait to see our amazing marshmallows and chocolate s'mores. Who likes s'mores? Yeah. Now, look what we have here. Here we have a little opening. This is actually going to be the top of our oven. So, I'm going to take the ruler, put it over here, and I'm going to just bend it like, watch this. Like that. See that? Oh, beautiful. See, this is going to be the opening. And we're going to allow the sun to shine in inside. Now, what we need to do is we're going to open it up like this. And the first thing we're going to do is we're going to put silver foil all around. So, let's take silver foil like that. And oo, look at that. It fits perfectly just like that inside. Let's fold it over. This is an extra part. We don't need that. Let's fold it over actually this way. We're going to fold it underneath so it looks nice and pretty. What do you think, Jack, about that? Huh? Looks nice and pretty. Right now, let's see. Oh, look at that. See? Let's see. Let's see. Let's see if we can close it. Oh, you see the silver foil helps to reflect the sun. We're going to need silver foil on the top over here as well. So, let's take this and put this right over here. See, it's closed. Let's take some silver foil and put it right over here. So, we're going to take a nice big piece of silver foil. We're going to put it over here. And we're going to bend it over. Yeah. Zach, can you hold it here? Lori, can you hold it right here? Yes. Good. And we're just going to go like this. Bend it over like that. See? Amazing. Thank you guys for your help. Now, let's see. Beautiful. I really like how this is coming out. Now, remember what color attracts the sun the most? Black. Black. So, let's take our black paper and we are going to put this right in the middle like this. But I have over here some black tape and we're going to take it and we're going to put a couple of pieces all around. So watch. We're going to put one piece over here. Beautiful. One piece over here. And then we're going to put another two pieces on the other side. So here we have a little skewer. You could use a pencil as well. And what we want to do is we want to make it that should go like this. You see that? So this is going to go inside over here. But before we do that, let me show you what we want to do. You see, the sun shines inside and it's going to reflect inside, but we have to trap the heat inside. If you cook and your oven is open, it won't cook well. We have to close the oven. So, that's where we're going to close this like this. And watch, we're going to take our beautiful uh saran wrap. Just like that. Jack, can you hold this like this? Beautiful. After 1 hour, the sun was shining on top of our beautiful oven by the sun made out of a pizza box. And the black attracted the sun. Ooh, it's pretty hot. And we have inside here our our our chocolate and our marshmallows. It's all melted. Who would like to have s'mores? Amazing. Let's open it up. And what color do you like? Uh pink. Pink. This is going to be for you. And what color would you like, Jack? Yellow. Jack likes yellow. Here you go. What brocca do we make? Zono. Okay, we're going to do it together.
