Don't Throw Your Money in the Garbage | Rabbi Joey Haber

I used to be very involved in leading a high school, and I had a student that I was close to. And one day, I called the student down to my office, and this was a rambunctious boy. And I called him into my office. He was all nervous. Why is Rabbi Haber calling me? And he walked into my office and he said, Rabbi, what is it? I said: Sit down. He sat down. I went into my pocket and I took out bills, and I took $100 bill and I threw it in the garbage, and then another one and I threw it in the garbage, and then another one and I threw it in the garbage. And he's like: Rabbi, what are you doing? I said: I'm just doing what you're doing. He says: What are you talking about? I said: You have so much talent, you have so much capability, you were given so much blessing. Why are you throwing it in the garbage? Why are you distracted? Why are you silly? Why are you doing inappropriate things? You're taking the gifts that you were given and you're throwing it away. Hashem gave every single one of us gifts and that gift is only when our eyes are in front of us. The distraction, the temptation, it makes us literally throw the gift away. So the next time you're walking in the street, say: You know what? I'm not going to take $100 bill and throw it in the garbage. I'm going to keep my eyes in front of me and move forward.
