Lecha Dodi is a song that is recited at sundown as Shabbos (the Sabbath) enters. Shabbos is compared to a bride and the Jewish people to a groom that welcome it's presence. The Ari"zal and his students would customarily enter into the fields before the advent of Shabbos to welcome the holy Shabbos bride. This beautiful event is what inspired this version of this central Jewish prayer.
