today is day number 145 of our daily study of ramam severe Mitzvahs in the three chapters a day of Mishra we are still in that's the seventh year the sabbatical year those are chapter six seven and eight of those halachas and corresponding corresponding to that we have positive commandment 140 counting down the years to the yevil or in English Jubilee year that's the 50th year why 50 because you do seven times seven seven cycles of seven seven squared that's 49 and then the following year the 50th year is the joyville or Jubilee year which is sort of like a super shmita um it is similar to shemitah where uh the land is left fallow it's not worked as well as some other laws which take place specifically during that year but we'll talk about that um positive so the this commandment was counting down meaning keeping track of the number of the year what year is it what how many years of how many cycles so that you can keep track know when it's the 50th year all right sort of similar to a Mitzvah that we do every year that also is counting seven sevens until we get to 50. Severus eimer yeah very good okay positive commandment 136. sanctifying the yivel or Jubilee year how do we sanctify it we sanctify it meaning how do we make it holy by abstaining from agricultural work that's what we mentioned uh meaning that we let the land lie fallow um and the the way that that Mitzvah is kept is the same as the way that we do it during shmita yes that means that in the 49th and 50th year you can have two years in a row of not working the land that's right because on the seventh cycle of seven years meaning on the 49th year that's a shemit the year and then the 50th year is a yevel year so you're gonna have two full years of not working the land how we're going to survive well that's part of the miracle of it okay positive commandment 137 I said that there are other laws that are applicable to the joyville or Jubilee year by the way you're catching that Jubilee is just a anglicization of Joyful I I don't know the rules how these biblical uh transliterations work but the Yoda becomes a j and the vase becomes a b but that's joyville is Jubilee Jubilee is a an attempted anglicization of a Biblical Hebrew word now you know okay so um positive commandment 137 I said that there are other things that happen in the evil year aside for allowing the land to lie fallow um so here's another thing the uh the sound the shifer to announce and they do this on the 10th of tishra otherwise known as Yom Kipper to announce the emancipation of all the Hebrew slaves and that is described in a verse in vayicro that's Leviticus 25 9. where it says you should Proclaim with a Schaefer ramshorn blast through a uh a sound a blast the seventh month on the 10th of the tenth day of the month which is the day of atonement taivirusham there shall be a sound of a Schaefer throughout your land and the next verse says you shall sanctify the 50th year and you shall Proclaim freedom for the land throughout the land you know this word you should Proclaim Freedom throughout the land you know where that verse is written I mean it's written in every hummus but you know what significant historical artifact in Philadelphia has that verse written on it you should Proclaim freedom in the land review one more guess you're right it's the Liberty Bell okay negative commandment 224 the prohibition against planting crops during the joyville or Jubilee year negative commandment 225 the prohibition against harvesting field crops during the evil or Jubilee year negative commandment 226 the prohibition against harvesting fruit from The Orchards during the Yeovil or Jubilee year those are our Mitzvahs today we will see you for more shemitah related Mitzvahs tomorrow God willing
