Thousands of daily flight being canceled!

Thousands of daily flights are being cancelled this week. The government shutdown is about to affect US air travel in a major way. The FAA has instructed US airlines to cancel 10% of their domestic flights by next week. This is, of course, due to over 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 TSA employees not being paid since October 1st, causing massive staffing shortages in airports. Airlines will start by cancelling 4% of domestic flights from the 40 busiest US airports this Friday. They're going to be adding 1% every single day until they reach a 10% total cancellation by next week. If your flight is canled, there will be no compensation other than a refund or an accommodation because this cancellation is completely out of your airlines control. Impressively, United CEO Scott Kirby has gotten ahead of this by proactively offering refunds to all passengers, even if you're booked in basic economy and even if your flight isn't cancelled. If you have travel booked in the coming weeks, you are definitely going to want to stay on top of the status of your flight. You can do that on your airlines website or app, but I highly recommend using other complimentary sites like Flight Radar, FlightAware, and Flight Stats that will give you even more detailed information down to the exact plane that you're flying on.
