Dan, welcome to the Theorist podcast
studio in New York City.
>> Yeah, and thanks to the for hosting us.
>> Absolutely. So really exciting changes
with the platinum cards, right?
>> Yeah, I think the consumer platinum card
is the most surprising because so many
times we've seen cards getting refreshed
and a lot of benefits go away and a lot
of benefits are added, but the annual
fee goes up and it's kind of like, well,
now I need to do the math. Does it make
sense to keep the card? Does it make
sense to get the card? The equation is
complicated, right?
>> Yeah, absolutely. And the most shocking
takeaway from our meeting with AMX is
that the personal platinum card, it just
it's head and shoulders above everyone
else in class, right?
>> Yeah. I mean, I think the value
proposition on it is now amazing where
before it may have been borderline. I
think the value prop is amazing. Yeah.
It's awesome.
>> Yeah. It's so rare for any company to
say, "We updated our program for your
benefit." And it's always negative
>> enhancements in credit card and airlines
speak. I mean almost always it's not
enhanced for the end user, it's enhanced
for the issuer. So it's pretty cool to
actually see a lot of enhancements. Yes,
the annual fee is going up, but I think
the added value really really dwarfs
that increase.
>> Yeah, without a question. So let's jump
into it. The consumer platinum, what are
the new benefits? How do they complement
the existing benefits? Are we losing
benefits? What's the breakdown here? So
nothing is being lost on the consumer
platinum side, which is awesome because
it has a lot of cool perks already
today. You get 5x points on all airfare
no matter where you buy it, which is an
awesome perk. One thing I really liked
is how they said that the typical
journey for an MX card member is they
start with the blue card, no annual fee.
Then they go up to the green card, the
gold card, and eventually they reach
platinum card status. And obviously
there's Centurion for a very select few.
That's kind of been how they've been
looking at it the past 40 years that
people will progress through the system
till they get to their most premium
card. Yeah,
>> exactly. And with the new refresh,
they're expecting and I expect as well
that a lot of people will really jump to
that premium personal platinum tier
because the value prop is so beneficial.
Yeah.
>> And and the benefits so far outweigh
that annual fee that even for a
beginner, this card is going to make a
lot of sense.
>> Let us dive right into it. Yeah.
>> So, what are the new benefits? How do
they mesh with the existing benefits?
What are we losing? What are we gaining?
>> Yeah, so the new MX Consumer Platinum
card cost $8.95 per year. That's up from
$6.95. So, it did get $200 more
expensive. If you're a new customer,
it's now $8.95. If your card renews
before January 2nd, 2026, you'll pay
$6.95 again. But effective January 2nd,
2026, it's $8.95 per year.
>> It goes up to $8.95 when your annual fee
hits.
>> Correct. Yeah. If your annual fee hits
after January 2nd, 2026.
>> Got it.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So, the card still earns 5x
points on airfare and up to half a
million dollars of airfare bought per
year. Doesn't matter where you buy the
airfare, you earn 5x points. So, very
high earnings on airfare.
>> Is that the best card for airfare? Are
there any cards that offer more than
that on airfare?
>> I think that's probably the best card
for airfare. Yeah.
>> Okay. Amazing.
>> So, the existing benefits were a $200
airline fee credit. That's staying the
same. You can still use that for any
airline fees or even for like buying
United uh travel bank. It works for
doesn't officially work for that, but it
does work for that to lock in some
future airfare.
>> So, that's that's not changing. It still
has global entry pre-check. That's all
included. It still has clear. Every year
you get clear and you skip the security
line, you go to the front of the
pre-check line. So, that's an great
benefit. That's $29 a year value. And
then the Sachs credit, $50 every half a
year. That's not going anywhere. The
Uber credit is not going anywhere. That
one earns $200 per year of Uber credit.
But what's new is that you will get Uber
1.
>> Oh wow.
>> Yeah. So that'll be included now.
>> I think a lot of people are already
paying for that.
>> Yeah, I think a lot of people pay for
Uber one. It's like 10 bucks a month,
something like that. Um, so that's
included now. So you can get free
delivery on Uber Eats and you get
discounted Uber rides. So that's a nice
little benefit.
>> Yeah, I think that you saved like 15%
usually something like that fees even on
Uber Eats. You save a nice
>> Yeah, if you use Uber, it's worth
signing up to Uber 1. And this will now
be included for free with the consumer
platinum card. So that's a nice perk.
You also get Uber VIP status.
>> What is that? get I think some priority
pickups and things like that. Some
upgrades.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. Call VIP.
>> Yeah, exactly. Uh you get a $200 Aura
Ring credit. I haven't used one of these
yet, but I guess it tracks your health
and your sleep patterns.
>> So, does that count towards I know it's
like $5.99 every month for an Aura Ring.
>> I don't think it counts for that. I
believe it just counts for buying the
ring is what it seems like.
>> So, kind of a okay credit.
>> Yeah, I'm not sure. Yeah, I'm not not
sure. Little hard to utilize. experiment
with it. But yeah, so some of the more
exciting credits though, there's a $300
Llemon credit now. So $75 per quarter.
You can get credited for any Lululemon
purchases in store or online.
>> That's super popular.
>> Yeah, I'm sure that'll be an awesome
credit for a lot of people to get $75
every quarter. You know, get a pair of
pants, shared workout clothes, Llemon
those bags. Um yeah, I think it'll be a
popular credit.
>> Yeah.
>> And then there is a resi credit. That's
super cool. It's $400 a year.
>> Oh wow.
>> Yeah. huge credit.
>> They raised the annual fee only $200,
right?
>> Yeah, exactly.
>> And just the $400 resi credit.
>> Yeah.
>> So valuable.
>> Yeah. That alone really makes up for it.
You get a $100 at any resi restaurant
every quarter.
>> Okay.
>> There's a ton of kosher resi
restaurants. I know we have a list on
the dance deals forums of all the kosher
resi restaurants. And so you get a $100
to spend there every quarter that will
be just rebated back. So you just have
to use your card at those restaurants.
is any restaurant that accepts a
reservation on resi pay with your MX
Platinum card and you get $100 cash back
every quarter. So up to $400 per year.
>> And if you don't make it to one, they
most of them also sell gift cards that
you can buy gift card and you get
credited back and then you could like
stack them together. So if you want to
go out for, you know, multi00
>> meal, you could save these gift cards up
to the end of the year and actually for
birthday $400 dinner.
>> Yeah. Go all out.
>> Right. And that's that's that's a real
cash back. And that's
>> for me that's cash in my pocket because
that's super easy. They've got Mendles
in Cleveland that's on resi. We go there
fairly often. So to have $400 per year
credit is incredible. And they have gift
cards on their website. So yeah, that's
that's a easy easy $400 win.
>> Resi is owned by MS, right?
>> Exactly.
>> So they're kind of trying to promote
their own restaurant platform, get more
restaurants on board.
>> I mean, this is going to be a huge boon
to the resi
>> platform. I'm sure they're going to get
more restaurants that are joining resi
just because everyone's going to be
>> every restaurant's going to join resi
after this.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> So, that's pretty cool. And they're also
doing resi platinum nights where super
popular restaurants are hard to get a
table at. If you have a platinum card,
you'll be able to get exclusive access
>> like Mendle's Casey Barbecue in
Cleveland. Very hard to get a
reservation.
>> Obviously, these are talking about like
Michelin restaurants and stuff.
>> Okay.
>> We're still waiting for the kosher
Michelin star restaurant in the US.
That'll happen one day, I think.
>> Be awesome. Maybe.
>> Yeah, maybe
>> it'll be awesome.
>> Yeah.
>> I think one of the problems is is that I
watch a stupid amount of Michelin videos
on social media and the price point is
so reasonable for for $250,
you're getting what would cost in a
kosher restaurant $1,000. And Michelin
takes that into account, right,
>> in their ratings. Yeah.
>> So, I don't know if it'll ever happen in
the US.
>> Okay.
>> We'll see.
If it's going to happen, I mean, it'll
probably be in New York City, I imagine.
>> What else going to support that price
point, right?
>> I guess unless it's something super
authentic like, I don't know, Got Leaves
gets a little upgrade and cuz they do do
cheaper price points. Okay. I'm not
really familiar with Michelin.
>> There's a there's a restaurant in like
Vietnam. It's like a faux soup that's
been on the same fire for like a hundred
years and it's like a Michelin rated
place and it's like 50 cents a bowl.
Okay. But it's just it's super
authentic, unbelievably good quality,
and they take price into account.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. So, that's the resi credit. That's
a pretty exciting new credit. And
another huge credit is the hotel credit.
So, currently you get $200 per year of
hotel credit.
>> And now that has gone up to $600 broken
up into $300 twice per year. Oh, wow. Of
hotel credit.
>> So, you can book the MX FHR hotels.
Those come with all kinds of perks. So,
you get 4 p.m. guaranteed late checkout
with
>> FHR. Can you just tell me what FHR?
>> FHR is the fine hotel and resorts.
They've been doing this for like 40
years. They've been doing FHR bookings.
You earn all your elite perks at if you
stay at like a chain that you have elite
status with with FHR bookings. And but
you also get 400 p.m. guaranteed late
checkout. You get a $100 amenity every
stay. You get upgrades. You get early
check-in if available.
>> I think they said a minimum $100 benefit
at each resort, but the vast majority
are much more than that.
>> Yeah. Yeah. They do all kinds of very
very cool perks. Yeah. That's awesome.
Yeah. And I stayed at the Bellagio in
Las Vegas and we got free breakfast and
we got free all kinds of credits and
drink vouchers and and the stay was free
just using my $200 credit. So now
there's going to be $600 of credits,
right?
>> So you can and that's just based on when
you book it. So it's you you prepay for
the stay. If you want to stay somewhere
in August 2026, you could book a night
there now, use that $300 credit for the
second half of 2025. Then you could book
another night there in January using
your first half credit of 2026 and
another night there in August of 2026.
So you could book three nights there.
>> Wow.
>> Right.
>> Wow.
>> And then get that $300 credit each time
that you're making a booking and just
book back to backtoback nights getting
$900 of value there out of your platinum
card.
>> That's a really cool strategy to
optimize your credits to book a longer
vacation. Yeah. What I love about FHR is
uh unlike some other hotel credits where
the hotels themselves cost more than the
credits. So there's no such thing as a
free stay. The FHR network has enough
hotels that you could book completely
free stays with your $300. There's
nothing coming out of your pocket.
>> Depends on the city. Vegas is definitely
one of the easier ones. Um but depends
on the city what the price point is.
There's websites like Max FHR that will
tell you about the best values in like
every city in the country in the world.
Yeah, it's pretty cool. Then there's
also the hotel collection. The hotel
collection is kind of like a lower FHR
price point, but you have to book two
night minimum for the hotel collection.
>> Can you use the $300 credit at the hotel
collection?
>> Yes. Yes. The $300 credit is good at FHR
and THC. The hotel collection or fine
hotels and resorts. Fine resorts, you
only need a one night minimum stay.
Hotel collection, you need a two night
minimum stay.
>> How many hotels are we talking in the
network here? Yeah. So, there's over
1,800 FHR hotels in the world. And
there's over 1300 THC hotels.
>> Wow.
>> Around the world. Yeah.
>> That's a great selection of hotels.
>> Yeah. It's a huge selection of hotels in
like over 114 countries, something like
that. Yeah.
>> Wow. Okay. Um, any other new credits
that we should talk about?
>> Yeah. Yeah, there are new more new
credits. So, the previous digital
entertainment credit was a $20 per month
credit for like New York Times, Wall
Street Journal, or Disney Bundle.
>> Uh, so now they're going to make that
$25 a month. So $300 per year now
instead of $240. And you could also use
it now in YouTube Premium, which is
great. YouTube TV, Paramount Plus,
>> as well as the previous ones of like
Peacock, Disney Bundle, or the Wall
Street Journal, New York Times. So
that's a nice enhancement.
>> Is YouTube Premium the same thing as
YouTube Music?
>> YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music,
and it also lets you skip all the ads on
YouTube as well.
>> That's awesome. Wow, that's like going
to open up. That's super useful for a
lot of people. I love that. Uh, for me
that $300 is also just to give me. So,
I'd be spending $300 on those anyway. I
get the Wall Street Journal. I use
YouTube Premium and the hotel credit
should be pretty easy to use. I don't
know that necessarily consider that, you
know, dollar for dollar, but the digital
entertainment one is dollar for dollar.
That's money in my pocket. The resi $1
for dollar is money in my pocket. The
airline fee credit, if I'm booking any
kind of a I can get that just credit for
airfare, that's $200 easy. So already
you've exceeded the value of the annual
fee. So annual fee. Yeah. Easily.
>> So and then you got the Lululemon credit
and you got the Oring credit and lots of
other perks there,
>> right? And that's on top of the Global
Entry. Claire and the Centurion Lounge
Network.
>> Yes.
>> Which I don't know if we're allowed to
talk about this yet or not, but maybe
we'll be getting kosher food. We'll see.
Also,
>> we did talk to one of the heads of the
Centurion Lounge Network and we
discussed it and it is actually on their
radar. Yeah,
>> it was kind of back burnered, but we
told them how critical it was to have
kosher food availability for kosher
travelers just because we're kind of
obsessed with food and where we're going
to get it. And a lot of people won't
travel to places unless there is kosher
food there.
>> For sure. I think it's the biggest pain
point of travel as a kosher consumer.
Yeah. Is where are you going to get your
meal? And when we got to explain to the
MX team that, you know, when I'm
traveling with my family, my wife is
packing like grilled cheese or cream
cheese sandwiches for breakfast and then
peanut butter and jelly for lunch
because you don't want it to spoil by
that point in the day. And then we have
to schedule where we're going to be
going for dinner when we land or what
we're bringing for that in a polar bear
cooler. And being able to have a hot,
fresh, kosher meal in a airport lounge
when you travel
>> would be amazing.
>> Nobody benefits from that more than a
kosher consumer.
>> Yeah. Yeah. And I think it would
definitely drive people to have the card
if they knew that was available. So they
said that it's uh definitely something
they're going to uh try to implement. So
>> yeah, here's hoping. Sounded really
hopeful.
>> Yeah, for sure. So another benefit
that's not changing is the Walmart Plus
benefit, which I love. Uh people were
wondering like, well, how does Walmart
Plus fit into a ultra premium credit
card like the MX Platinum card?
>> Sure.
>> But you know what? Walmart is a great
site to shop at and to have Walmart Plus
and get free deliveries from stores and
free delivery on all items with two-day
shipping is pretty awesome.
>> Yeah, I for me their local grocery
delivery beats out Instacart um and
pretty much any other local
>> because they don't add extra fees.
>> Exactly. You're getting the actual
instore Walmart price
>> delivered to your house.
>> Yeah, it's it's super valuable actually.
So that's like a $13 a month value that
you're getting on the uh MX Platinum
card. And that also comes with Paramount
Plus or Peacock. So you don't even have
to use your digital entertainment credit
for that if you use those services.
True. So that's pretty cool.
>> Walmart Plus gives you free Paramount
Plus, but that has ads. Can you use your
digital credit to upgrade that account
to remove the ads?
>> I don't think they let you do that. I
think you're stuck with one with ads. If
you want one without ads, you got to
start from scratch.
>> There's no upgrade feeds.
>> I don't think there's a path to that
now.
>> All right. I I can't stand ads
personally. I find it painful. We grew
up with them which is the funniest
thing. Right. Right. And now it's like
Netflix has completely ruined the
everything for me.
>> But they're getting huge growth in their
ad supported plan also. People are
willing to sit through ads to save some
money. Just depends on
>> definitely. I think it's the exclusive
content that they have that people want
to get and they just don't want to pay
more for it. So they they suffer through
it.
>> Yeah. The card previously came with
Maria and Hilton gold elite status.
That's not changing. Like I said,
nothing's being devalued on the platinum
card on the consumer platinum card.
>> It's crazy.
>> Yeah.
>> It still blows my mind they added this
much value and they're not taking
anything away. Like who does that like
when a company says we're investing in
our customers and and we we're
customercentric? They really are.
>> Like truthfully, honestly, I'm blown
away.
>> This is something that they saw with
Chase the Sapphire and they're like,
we're going to do it in a different way
and they accomplished it, I think,
because they've added so much value.
They're also adding um elite status with
this card, right? There was some before
and they're adding some new ones. So,
tell me about that.
>> Yeah. So, look at the wall of a story of
Jerusalem. I get awesome kosher
breakfast there on my stays just with
that free gold status. So, that's pretty
cool. Even on award stays, you get that
free breakfast at all Hilton's. And then
there's Marriott gold status that you
get with the card. And you also will now
get leaders club sterling status, uh
which will get you pre-arrival upgrades
and early check-in and late checkout and
other perks.
>> Breakfast. Yeah, breakfast is included
with that as well. It also comes with
like six car rental platinum status when
you're a Sterling member with Leaders
Club, so you can kind of keep daisy
chaining for other status,
>> right?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. And I know I mean national will
match that as well. Yes.
>> Do you get national status still with uh
with your platinum card?
>> I think if you match from six platinum
to get executive elite would be the best
path to go.
>> Your platinum card gives you national
executive status. But if you get the the
leaders club sterling which gets you six
platinum status, you can then screenshot
that, send that international and they
will give you executive elite status,
>> right?
>> Yeah.
>> I love it so much.
>> Executive lead is phenomenal. You get
like a free rental with every five
rentals. And then the free rental day is
even good on like ultra premium cars,
even on oneway rentals. Like they wave
all the fees with those. So
>> those are great.
>> People sell those for like over $100 on
our
>> huge value for those. And there there's
a great I don't know if many people know
about Leaders Club, but they have really
good hotels. I think
>> tons of awesome looking hotels. King
David in Shalam is part of Leaders Club
as well as Satai Tel Aviv. It's funny
because City Points transfers over to
Leaders Club at an awesome ratio. MX
doesn't
>> and the city cards don't give you elite
status.
>> No, you don't get any kind of status. So
if you have the MX Platinum card, you'll
have Sterling status for Leaders Club,
which actually adds value to
transferring points from city over to
Leaders Club.
>> That's so that's so interesting. Yeah, I
always wanted to go. I'm definitely
going to go at some point to they have
overwater bungalows in Panama at the I
think it's the Nara Bokea del Toro.
>> I've read about that a few times.
>> And they have kosher and they have
kosher food. They they offer I think
it's included through kabad.
>> There's kabad there in is it bo
Yeah. And they have an awesome looking
menu. Looks amazing.
>> Yeah. I definitely got to get out there
one day. It looks super super nice.
Yeah.
>> To not have to travel to Well, I don't
want to travel to the Maldives anymore
since they kind of fell off everyone's
bucket list since they banned Israelis.
Yeah.
>> Yeah. But to not have to fly to Bora
Bora, just fly down to Panama. It's not
that long of a flight, especially from
Miami, and get an overwater bungalow.
I'm pretty psyched for that.
>> Yeah, that's that's pretty cool. And so,
yeah, combining kind of the NX Platinum
Sterling status with transferring points
from City at a great value. Yeah, that's
pretty cool.
>> There's a Hertz benefit to the Platinum
card, right?
>> Yeah, the Herz benefit is really cool.
You get a 4 hour grace period when you
use the Hertz code from MX Platinum
card. So if you rent a car for 28 hours,
you'll pay just for one day, whereas
normally you'd pay for two full days.
>> Okay,
>> that's a nice benefit. Even if you're on
using like Herz points for a free day,
you could use this code even combining
with points. So you only need to use one
free day for 28 hour rental. So that's a
nice perk.
>> Very cool. Especially when your flights
line up, that could be that could save
you an entire day's rental.
>> Yeah, that could be huge. So that's a
nice benefit.
>> That's great. And and the Centurion
Lounges, if anyone travels and they've
never been to a Centurion Lounge, can
you tell me about them because I've been
in them, they're wonderful.
>> Yeah, they're awesome lounges. They
don't charge for any premium drinks like
some other lounges do. And there's
showers in the lounges and other
amenities that different various lounges
have. They're up to, I think, 30
Centurion lounges now, like 15 in the US
and 15 international. And they're
opening, I know Newark is coming online
next year in Salt Lake City later this
year. They're open one in Tokyo. They're
opening one in Amsterdam. So definitely
it's still growing and they're looking
for more airports to to put them in.
>> Yeah.
>> And then it's not you don't just get
access to Centurion, you get access to
the escape uh lounges. I know in Fort
Lauderdale have used that one there.
>> And they're also introducing a new
concept, right? The first Centurion
Lounge was in Las Vegas and now they're
launching Sidecar.
>> Yeah. And that wasn't even the first
Centurion Lounge was not intended for
the platinum card holders. It was for
Centurion black card holders, right? And
then once Continental merged with United
and they pulled their lounges out of the
network and American merged with US
Airways and those lounges left the
network for US Airways lounges. So they
had well we got to open up
>> the platinum card network.
>> Yeah. So they're like well now that all
these airlines are leaving the platinum
card we just got to open up our own
lounges. That's what kind of launched
the whole banks opening up their own
lounges.
>> Right. That makes sense. And I think
they said it was their number one
customer satisfaction product.
>> Yeah.
>> Across everything that they offer.
>> Yeah.
>> Is people just love having somewhere to
go when they travel.
>> Yeah. So, they're opening a speak easy
in Las Vegas next year called Sidecar,
which is going to have just quick drinks
and the bar and quick food bites. Um,
and that's only going to be accessible
within like 90 minutes of your flight.
So, just like for quick in-n-outs versus
a traditional lounge, which you have
access for a few hours before your
flight,
>> right?
>> Is this mainly going to be in your
opinion because we don't really know.
But in airports that have centurion
lounges that are super busy, sometimes
there's a wait time. Yeah. But these
will kind of alleviate that because
you're getting the same products just
not a sprawling space per se.
>> Yep. That's exactly what the plan is for
that.
>> And you don't just get access to cherry
lounges, you also get access to Plaza
premium lounges or you get access to the
whole priority pass network. You also
have access to Delta lounges if you're
flying Delta or you have access to
Lufansza lounges when you're flying
Lufansza. So there's huge lounge
network.
>> The pain point for Delta is that when
you're booking basic economy, you can't
get in, right?
>> Correct. Yeah. You got to book at least
regular economy for that.
>> And you get I think it's 10 passes per
year to Delta, right?
>> Yeah.
>> And is that only for you or you and
anyone you're traveling with?
>> That's just for you. Yeah. If you want
to bring in guest is $50 extra per
guest. If you do spend $75,000 per year
though on your platinum card or across
your platinum cards, you get guest
access at Centurion Lounges. So you
could bring in uh two extra people with
you for free and priority pass. That's
included anyway, that guest access. But
for Centurion, you need to unlock that
with spending on the card.
>> That's a shame. Used to be families were
free.
>> Yeah,
>> that was that was
>> problem is the lounges were overcrowded
and they had to figure out ways to uh
try to limit that.
>> Right. For sure.
>> So, total value on the card, you've got
$600 annual hotel credit.
>> Mhm.
>> You've got a $200 airline fee credit.
>> All right.
>> You've got a $200 Uber credit. That's
just credits for Uber or Uber Eats.
>> We're already over the annual fee
threshold. Keep going.
>> You've got 400 well $120 Uber one credit
per year. So, that'll make Uber one
free. You've got the $400 resi credit.
You've got a $100 SAX credit.
>> We're already at $1,600.
>> Okay, awesome.
>> We're just about double the annual fee
now in credits.
>> You've got a $300 Lululemon credit.
You've got the $200 Aura credit. You've
got a $29 Clear credit. And then you've
got the $300 digital entertainment
credit,
>> right?
>> And you've got the $155 Walmart Plus
credit.
>> Yes.
>> Uh so what are we up to so far?
>> $2,784.
And that's besides for the global entry
which is once every four years.
>> Mhm.
>> So I don't know how you want to divide
that up.
>> What is that price? 189
>> $120 for every four years.
>> $120 over four years. So it's 30 bucks.
>> I guess 30 bucks a year. You can call
that.
>> Okay.
>> I mean you also, this is a little like
pro tip, but you can add an expense
card, no annual fee expense card to your
platinum card
>> and that also gets global entry free
every four years even though there's no
annual fee on that card.
>> And is that like one time or
>> once every four years?
>> No. No, no. I mean, is that one card you
could do or
>> you could open up up to 99 expense cards
on your Platinum card.
>> So, if it's someone that uh you trust to
add as an authorized user, you could add
up to 99 people.
>> Get all of your friends and family
global entry for free. If you have
platinum card holder, you can open up a
no fee platinum expense card. Wow.
>> And each one of those comes with global
entry for every four years. Yeah.
>> Wow. Wow. Wow.
>> That's crazy.
>> That is crazy.
>> So, plus $5 million in value.
>> Let's I'm not even going to cut that.
Right. And you know, and then that's not
even counting the lounge access, the
elite status benefits, all the other
perks or or the ability to earn 5x
points on airfare or all the
insuranceances and protections that come
with the card like return protection.
>> Oh my gosh. Can we talk about return
protection?
>> Let's get to that in one sec. So, we're
over $3,000 right now. If you ask me,
the Aura Ring credit, I wouldn't count
it as like the giving credit because
it's not actually free.
>> That's the least valuable of all the
credits that they've added. Fine. um for
people that want it, super valuable,
obviously, but I think for the general
public. So, we're at $2,884.
>> That's literally incredible credits. Not
hard to use credits that are beneficial.
>> So, I'm super happy. I I've had the card
before. And the extra $200 gets me $400
at Resi, gets me an extra $400 on hotel
credits. It gets me $300 at Lululemon.
It gets Uber 1. So, there's a ton of
value that's being added. It's really
>> I think it's the best credit card
refresh I've ever seen.
>> Yeah, agreed. Yeah, MX has hit it out of
the park.
>> Yeah. So, card.
>> Yeah. Let's talk about return protection
and and insurance on on items for an
extra year. Electronics and tell me
about that.
>> Yeah, MX protections are amazing. Return
protection is my favorite. Mhm.
>> If you buy something that has a final
sale policy or maybe a 30-day return
window, you can tell Ammex within 90
days of buying it that you don't like it
and Ammex will just credit you back the
item up to $300 per item up to $1,000
per year, no questions asked.
>> It's incredible.
>> And they just tell you to keep it,
dispose the item, give it away. So,
that's an awesome benefit.
>> This is especially useful because Amazon
has actually introduced final sale
items. Yeah, it's great just for
anything on Amazon with a 30-day return
policy that you can have just more time
to think about it,
>> right?
>> So, yeah, super useful benefit
>> and then travel insurance.
>> Yeah, there's all all kinds of, you
know, delayed flight protections, trip
cancellation insurance,
>> lost baggage.
>> Yeah. Yeah, there's all those benefits,
all those perks, and they're just super
easy to use and file a claim for. Um the
extended warranty, like you said, if
your laptop has a one-year warranty,
they'll give you another year warranty
on it, and if there's any damage, and
they'll pay to fix it, so or cover the
cost of the laptop. really really useful
perks.
>> And and do they still offer I I remember
a lot of some credit cards offer stolen
item protection, but Ammex actually does
lost it.
>> Platinum card. Yes, there is lost item
protection. If you lose an item uh
within 90 days, they will cover it. So
other cards need to file a police report
to prove that it was stolen within 90
days. And this you just tell them you
lost it within 90 days and they'll cover
it. Yeah.
>> And that was a a higher cap than $1,000,
I think. Right. What was the cap on
that?
>> Yeah, it's a $10,000 cap for lost
items.$10 cap on. So, this is why really
any high-end electronic you buy in your
platinum card, right?
>> Yeah.
>> No brainer.
>> Absolute best card.
>> No brainer. Just for the warranty and
protection and Yeah. For the lost item
protection, return.
>> And I know you use that a few times,
right? You I think you left a pair of
Bose headphones on a plane once.
>> Um, did you shatter like a 40-year
bottle of scotch or something once,
right? Am I remembering correctly?
>> It wasn't a 40-year bottle. It was I
think it was Login that we had bought
and dropped on the way back from the
store and MX did cover it. Yeah. It's
amazing.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Pretty wild.
>> I think when we saw the card for the
first time,
>> it was like this card is different.
>> Beautiful. The new MX Platinum Consumer
Card comes in this mirrored finish. They
had it like behind a case, so we
couldn't actually like hold it.
>> I think they flew it in from like Tokyo
the day
>> overnight. They overnighted it from
Tokyo to get to this event. It looks
stunning. So, new customers are going to
get this mirrored finish platinum card.
It's the nicest looking credit card I
think I've ever seen.
>> Absolutely. And existing customers can
can request it.
>> Yeah. For a limited time, they can
request it today to get that mirrored
finish. Just call AMX or chat with them
online and you can request the mirrored
finish MX Platinum card for a limited
time. It's a limited edition card. It is
beautiful. Like, you're going to want to
pull out this card and use it just
because it's it's awesome looking.
Literally people people were saying um
at AMX that like you could check your
teeth with it. Like it's fill and
mirror.
>> It's filling mirror.
>> Most expensive filler in the world,
>> right? $95 to fill in. It's It's a
beautiful card.
>> It really is.
>> There's not too many card redesigns that
I get excited about. They've really done
a nice job on this one.
>> And by the way, they're MX cards that
you get excited about cuz they had the
Delta card that was actually made out of
a Delta plane. Yes, I I did apply for
the Delta Reserve when they had it made
out of the 747 and I got cards for all
my kids, additional users. It's made out
of a 747. Like, how could I not? I love
the 747. 2017, I think I flew on the
last 747 flight that United flew from uh
it was from San Francisco to Honolulu.
>> So, that was a crazy like party bus
experience
>> for their final 747 flight. Yeah. So,
they had that 747 credit card. I'm like,
I got to get that one.
>> Yeah, MX does the design.
>> Yeah.
>> Really well.
>> Yeah. design team is super cool.
>> Give me your final takeaways about the
newly refreshed MX Consumer Platinum
card.
>> I think the card's a no-brainer. I think
you're just going to add up those
credits that come with the card now.
It's going to far exceed the cost of the
annual fee. So, you know, people do
complain, I don't like these coupon
books. I want a lower annual fee. But
the banks have seen and we've seen all
the banks move to this model that people
do like the coupon book because they'll
get more value than the annual fee. So
AMX have gone all in on it, but they've
really added a lot of incredible values
to justify increasing the annual fee. So
you're getting thousands of dollars of
credits for that 8.95 annual fee. That's
a good trade-off.
>> Yeah, absolutely. I I love to see this.
I love to see companies do this. And
just to explain some of the back end of
it, it's really a win-winwin for
everybody because the banks aren't
paying the companies all of that money
back. The companies are actually using
marketing dollars. Yeah. To enable MX to
offer these credits and they retain new
customers, a lot of new customers that
are then going to spend more money at
their properties, at their stores, etc.
And then us as consumers, yes, the
annual fee goes up, but there is this
outsized value. So truly, everybody is
winning when it's done right. And Amx
did it right this time.
>> Yeah. just because the credits are so
useful. Like, everyone's going to go out
to eat and everyone's going to stay in
hotels and everyone's going to use all
of these various credits like Uber. So,
they're just credits that are just money
in your pocket because you're going to
spend that anyway. So, really nice
credits, high value credits. I like the
change. This is one of the few card
refreshes with the higher annual fee
that I would trade. I would do it in a
second to get all those extra credits
for $200 higher annual fee.
>> Yeah. Very, very exciting. And I think
the offer right now is as high as
175,000 points, right?
>> Yeah. For spending, I think 8,000 in six
months. So, you have to apply for the
card and then they'll tell you the
offer. But the good thing is they don't
pull your credit until they tell you
what the offer is. So, basically, you
put in your information, you click
apply, and it says your offer is X. It
might be 50,000 points, might be 100,000
points, might be 15, might be 175,000
points, and you'll find that out after
you submit it. And then it will tell
you, do you want to proceed with this
application or do you want to cancel it
out? So, if you're not eligible for the
card or if you get an offer you don't
like, it doesn't pull your credit. And
the truth is, if you have an existing
AMX card, even getting an MX card
doesn't pull your credit,
>> right?
>> So, that's a pretty nice benefit for AMX
is that you don't get that hard credit
pull if you're already an existing MX
customer when you're applying for a
card, typically speaking.
>> Very, very cool. And if somebody wants
to apply for this card, how do they do
that?
>> Yeah, just go on Dan Deals. You wrote
all about the card and all the new
information today. And we're gonna add
