the ashkenaz jewish community of flatbush has grown exponentially in the last hundred years with yeshivas and shules bhatimidrashim kola lim flourishing throughout the community our forefathers our ancestors came to these shores of the early 1900s only in the last 10 to 15 years that we've become more politically active and understanding that elected officials have a major impact on our quality of life and the silvada community federation was formed primarily to assess the effectiveness and the relationships that we have with elected officials at the fjcc we get to work on a daily basis with elected officials on behalf of our community whether it be the police commissioner the local police commanders the governor's office the mayor's office or the local community board and you know why they answer our call because you voted they understand that a community that votes deserves the services that they have to offer it's important that we have good relations with our elected officials so they can see the good that we do for our community and as a result we qualify for various grants that will help our community deliver those services one of the major problems facing our community and every community throughout new york city is the quality of life the rise in crime which makes it very difficult to feel secure sending our children to yeshiva going on a train going on a bus even going shopping down the block it's for our children our parents our grandchildren our great grandparents we have to have a quality of life you have to be able to walk down the street you have to live your life every day and feel comfortable we've had that in the past in the last few years we seem to be losing it we need to get it back we need elected officials that can guide us and keep us on the right track and bring us back to the best times that we have new york city is one of the greatest cities in the world every vote counts there were elections recently in new york city that were won by 57 votes in this case june 22nd is the democratic primary the way it works in new york city and new york state the vast majority of registered voters are democrats whoever wins the primary june is likely to be the winner in november therefore you must go out of vote on june 22nd and the good news is you can vote early starting sunday june 13th you can go on and vote vote early especially if you're going to go away vacation you should go out and vote early we have to keep in mind that only when we work together to one goal but we have success no matter where we come from what yeshiva or yeshiva we went to to all part of the jewish community if we're not together we're going to fail all of us share the same values we have the goals for our children and grandchildren we all of us know that we are links in the chain from generation to generation it only takes literally a few minutes to vote all your fellow jews in the community will benefit if you vote you could make a difference a few votes could literally change the face of the future of the electorate of our community let's be that community that comes out strong our future depends on your future depends on
