every child in New York state is entitled to a basic education Yeshiva education and education in general is the foundation of our community and it's really what we're investing into our children to make sure the future Generations continue to withhold our traditions and our ways the need for Yeshiva day school has only increased exponentially since ramaz was started ramad was started by my grandfather he started it when my father needed a school like what our kids learn in day schools will strengthen them and enable them to live productive lives we want to give our kids not only the best Yeshiva education but of course included in that we needed secular education so that we could get into the workforce and provide for our families and for the generations to come I've had the privilege of working in multiple schools and I have seen countless Educators who are dedicated beyond belief to what they are doing the Jewish Education that our children need requires excellent educators over 33 percent of our family cannot afford a tuition level I can't tell you how many phone calls I personally get from families in our school begging us to do something to help their kids it might sound like we're in decent shape to say oh 33 that's not 50 but the reality is that there's another third of the community where they're cutting back on just about everything it's not just the ones on tuition assistance it's a majority of the families [Music] before teach NYS started schools couldn't budget for what was going to come next there was no one there lobbying on their behalf a big part of our responsibility is to find an affordable tuition for every family and that is an extraordinarily challenging objective at the beginning there were probably four or five people coming to Albany with seats NYS and there was no consorted effort really of people taking the time to go to their legislators the government has always been a partner with religious schools so it's not that we were trying to create something new we were trying to focus on something that's working and figure out how to actually get more from it teach Mis has secured over two billion dollars in state government aid for all non-public schools and a big chunk of that goes to our yeshivas and day schools I've been involved with two schools that were original founders of teach NYS the return on investment has been remarkable we I thought of all the yeshivas a tremendously grateful to all of the asconimal of the workers put a tremendous effort and time and seeing that this should happen and may you continue your vote as I call this from any happy Health years to come it's incredibly helpful to the achiever World we're grateful to you now we're bringing thousands and thousands of students to Albany and making sure that their voices are heard and that the community is at the Forefront of these legislators Minds when they're making these decisions the fact that the state is now funding education is amazing to consider we're setting up the infrastructure that can actually solve the problem once and for all the funding that we've received so far has directly impacted the Excellence of Education specifically in the areas of stem when we're approaching a politician who's committing her life to building the society one area that really resonated was stem this is a program that literally reimburses our day schools in yeshivas for their qualified stem teachers science teachers technology engineering math teachers over the last six years since we started this effort we have been able to increase from year one five million dollars to 58 million dollars and that slope is continuing to be very steep it's pretty amazing to see the legislators rally around the importance of educating our students but making sure that it's a quality education and an affordable education despite all of our efforts to find sources of revenue we come up short every single year if more people can really just understand the huge impact that this has on their children this is the kind of endeavor that everyone can make a difference in there are so many ways to get involved and I can't stress how important it is to get involved whether you vote or Lobby or contribute with the right support that funding increase will go directly to our schools the larger numbers we have involved with us the larger amount of money we can secure we have an annual mission to Albany where we are walking the halls of the Capitol we're creating relationships with the people who are going to remember the faces of every single person that they met you could go up there and see right up close and personal how the advocacy works and how much of a difference this makes in fighting for our Yeshiva a Jewish Day School education is more important now than ever and if that's true then the work of teach NYS is more important now than ever I would encourage everybody in our community to get involved with teach NYS five years from now I want to be speaking to you again and talking about how we increased the funding from New York State go online and look up teach NYS and find out how you can start to engage
