[Music] During co the goal at the time was if you can keep somebody out of the hospital their chance of living was that much more. Uh we contacted Hatsolo and we came up with this concept deliver people oxygen at home so that they don't have to go to the hospital. From there after co they saw what a need there was for helping people with oxygen other equipment and they started a flatbush >> and literally from one minute to the next we started buying equipment and we just advertised our number and it just exploded whether it was medical supplies, medical equipment, wheelchairs, hoy lifts, hospital beds, crutches, canes, commodeses, recliners. I said a flatbush is such a unique opportunity to help all the families in our community. When Hatalah takes a patient to a hospital, whether it's your grandfather, your mother, your father, your child, yourself. You come home and very often you're very weak. You need services in the house and you absolutely need help. Until started, there was a huge void in the community. People contact us at a care SBH and they need medical services like hospital beds, oxygen concentrators, wheelchairs. The only one-stop shop is Flapush throughout our community far and wide. Anyone that needs a piece of medical equipment, of course, wheelchairs, crutches, and every other device that you could imagine, they have. >> We set up a dispatch system. Um, we're rolling out an app now for more than 150 volunteers to track all our equipment. Um, we have a brand new facility now that we just moved into on Coney Avenue and Avenue I. This was designed as almost an eightcar parking lot in the back. Members can just pull right in, load their car, load their van, and go. I'm one of 20 dispatchers and one of 95 regular members. The general guy probably takes 10 to 15 calls, whether it's on dispatching, just answering the phone, or delivering the pieces of equipment to the person in need. It comes to a point where sometimes before yontiff the hotline can ring you know 30 40 times within an hour and you have calls going out if the call's going out to take the wheelchairs drop them off and make sure every single person gets exactly what they need before yontiff. There's always someone there to answer the call whether it's 2:00 in the morning or 2:00 in the afternoon. >> In addition to our medical supply gamak we started a home health uh care division on a case-byase basis. We have a team leader uh a nurse practitioner by the name of Dan Daniel Stock. He put together a team of about 40 50 nurse practitioners, PAs, doctors, um and other paramedics that assist us well. And on a case-by case basis, we've been treating people at home. >> It's it's in our blood. It's for Flatbush. It's by Flatbush. And we're just here to help. >> When I show up, most of the time they're extremely happy. Like a euphoric feeling that someone just went completely out of their way. When my husband was really sick and we knew it was coming towards the end, we wanted to be home and develop really allowed that to happen. I made one phone call and everything was brought to the house from medical supplies, the hospital bed, oxygen compressor, IVs, blood work, whatever we needed, they took care of. They made my husband laugh a lot. Me, they made me laugh. Smile when things were not there's not much to smile about. It was very encouraging really mikra and because of flapish we were home for pes the last pes of his life. >> I know personally I had surgery on my shoulder back in April within an hour and a half they delivered a reclining chair to my home. I was able to sleep in a recliner for the 2 weeks and 2 weeks later I called them up. They picked it up they took it back. >> I had two serious back surgeries the past year. professor of flatfish brought a bar for the bed which holding on to it I was able to sit up on my own they brought me a hospital table a walker canes I don't know what I done without a flatfish we come home from the hospital we're lost we don't know what we need in the house for a parent our grandparent we absolutely uh don't know what to do they can give you everything you need to take care of your loved one in your own home we're making tremendous changes in people's lives whereas in the past if someone didn't have a piece of equipment. They just had to live without it. >> You have a tremendous amount of equipment. Over 500 pieces of equipment that are currently out. Just do the math of what that equipment costs. It's it's turning into an astronomical number of dollars. Everyone in this organization is 100% volunteering. No one gets any monetary compensation. We send out equipment in mint condition. Sometimes it doesn't come back that way. Not to the person's fault, but usage. When something gets used, walkers, knee scooters, there's a lot of wear and tear. And we're not going to give something out to somebody else that is stained, that is wobbly, that is not working 100%. Anything is needed for any client anytime 24/7 Flatbush is there. Even up until Shabbat, they're there to get you the needs that you need right away. There's no better service in our community today than Flatbush. For the last two and a half years, we've been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars just to keep this organization going. I am anticipating over the next couple of years our annual budget will be close to a million dollars. Whether you heard of us or you didn't hear of us, I guarantee you that a family member or a neighbor or someone you know has used our services. We're asking the community to please step up and support Flatbush. It's a it's a community- based organization that's from the community for the community by the community. Support Hessa Flatbush.
