I go
Welcome, welcome to all the guests.
We got a few of these emails. Since I
left they did not have a consistent
table remote and every year Simchas
Torah has been rough.
Since I started the daf 2 years ago, the
joy is back. I feel like I'm family, I'm
a family member at a chasuna rather than
a stranger. Thank you for making my
Simchas Torah great again.
[Music]
Your talmid since Rosh Hashanah, Chaim
Miller.
[Music]
We'll have a new hat, a new slogan.
Thank you for making my Simchas Torah
great again.
Dear Rebbi, every year I felt
uncomfortable approaching Simchas Torah.
For many years I couldn't connect all
the joy lacking a proper Torah learning
schedule. Baruch Hashem this year I have
three mesechtas I'm counting to dance
with in your zchus. Mishakoyach and good
Yom Tov, anonymous.
Ooh.
Maybe I didn't do that. Okay, what is
that? A rov is
Hi, my name is Sruly Pesach. I joined
MDY to learn the daf yomi with Rebbi
Zevensky. I joined mesechtas Megillah
and I was able to finish my name is
Ektus and it changed my life in a very,
very good way.
I will be mentioning that I'll be
joining the MDY Shabbaton
for the siyum of mesechtas Kiddushin. I
booked my room already and I'm really
looking forward to the Shabbos of chizuk
for myself and for my family.
We'll see you there.
No, anybody else want to send in
something like that? Show them. I have
to tell you um
I forgot what I was going to say it. But
I do want to start mentioning some of
the big sponsors we had. Um let me see
if I have if I even put it in. No, I
didn't put it in.
mdyshabis.com
But um the Shabbaton is sponsored
uh amongst many, Avi Kaminsky. So it's
uh Kaminsky and Nathan I think. We're
going to show his logo, Madison Title
and um
official
Somebody came over to me after the shiur
yesterday in the sukka and he said he
wants to give $10,000 towards uh the
Shabbaton and to help people to make it
more affordable.
Um we started this uh installment plan.
I think we might have to change it if
people are complaining. I didn't realize
it's more of an installment of like a
few weeks until up to the the thing. We
have to figure out how to extend it a
little bit to make it a little easier.
So if I'm missing some of the sponsors,
I I'm not really familiar with all the
sponsors, the large sponsors for the
Shabbaton. We'll put them out, we'll
start mentioning them every single day
b'ezras Hashem.
I'm trying to get
some other sponsors as well b'ezras
Hashem. Oh, this is what?
Of course, of course.
This is Reb Aryeh Chaim Levin with his
stand. You don't see stand, but he got
some new recruits there on Chol Hamoed.
He went 2 days in a row to two different
play everywhere he went. He went to
recruit. Yishakoyach. The flyer of Rebbi
Zevensky, my husband Moshe Handler has
always learned and always enjoyed it,
but since he joined MDY it's blatant
that his learning is passion, his hobby,
his world. When Torah is your obsession,
it's a beautiful thing and now our
children see it. Thank you for enhancing
our whole family's lives. Today, the
fourth day of Chol Hamoed, we went to
the Mitzvah Museum where some of us
learned some science while Moshe learned
some Torah. Good Yom Tov, Mrs. Elky
Handler. Yishakoyach.
[Music]
So there is an only
a rov going Rebbi Shlita, you mamesh
changed my life. I started with you
exactly 691 days ago. Today is daf beis
and today is my 16th birthday. Never
missed a single day of learning with you
on all daf, not even on the holidays and
Yom Tov.
Holidays he means uh vacation, like we
would call vacation on Yom Tov. I get up
at 6:50, 1 and 1/2 hours before Shachris
to learn with my chavrusah, Mordechai
Groskopf, which
uh as a side note, I just got a thing
that he they Didn't they just vote him
in? Is this Mordechai Groskopf?
But it says here, Mordechai Groskopf is
chavrusah. You sent me from another
place. He He's like a what? What is he?
He got voted in Stamford Hill.
PS, would like some MDY merchandise.
It's not about daf, it's about yomi.
Thank you for inspiring us in daf beis
Yom Tov.
Join dafyomi.com he puts in the bottom.
Yishakoyach.
Um Do we have time here? Read this long
email or not? No, okay. It's a very,
very long email and it's a negative one,
so we won't read it. Different time.
No.
Okay, now they don't want to fight. I
echo the people who applaud your general
approach to achdus mentioning different
groups who participated in shiur,
chassidim, snaggim, etc. Torah and
achdus is best remedy for the deep, dark
golus we're in. Divrei divrei chizuk
makes the shiur enjoyable and relatable
and likely, together with the art, a
reason for its success. At same time,
oh, it's getting there.
We know that all human comedy is based
on our perception of reality and that's
why it's funny. For example, when the
chosson here's y'all right that there's
still hope for you, he's megaleh that on
some level he doesn't think you're good
enough. But that's his problem, not
mine, not yours. He's not our maggid
shiur. His narrow views are meaningless
to me. What you say on the other hand,
even just staying more seriously, to
that end I'd like you to stop making
kipah serugah jokes.
Too bad, I'm not.
As much as you talk about achdus, when
you make these kind of jokes it implies
that at least on some level, daki daki,
you look down on people who wear a
different skull cap than you do. If that
is not what you believe, that is what
you imply unintentionally by these
jokes. Part two, can you please explain
your reluctance to use shmita wine? So
first of all, on that thing, I'm not
going to get into it, but happens to be
I wore a kipah serugah for a year in my
life. Why? I'll explain to you. Uh my
father is a rebbe in Sha'arei Yoshuv
and the rebbetzin, Rebbetzin Freifeld,
z'l,
she knitted a yarmulke for me. It had my
name on it. It was a serugah yarmulke.
She knitted it. So when I was 5 years
old I wore serugah. So how could how
could I be making fun of serugah? I
myself wore serugah. I myself am a
serugi. You hear that, Shomshi? I myself
am a serugi. Shomshi, seriously, when I
used to make kipah serugah jokes, do you
take it personally? Is there a little
bit of emes in there?
Makes him want to do it even more.
Since I made that joke, uh he has twins.
One wears a serugah and one wears a a
similar yarmulke. Even more, this is
modern. I think with the with the brim.
Seret? He has a seret?
Uh not yet. He's not in Avenue J. So
after I made that joke, he took off that
yarmulke. Both of them had serugahs.
Okay. We're not going to stop the jokes
cuz if I listen to every email in the
last 3 weeks, I can't make fun of
Litvaks, I can't make fun of chassidim,
can't make fun of yeshivish, can't make
fun of what?
Cancel shidduch. There's no jokes.
Finished. Can't say lashon hora anymore.
Like Rebbi Rothchild, he can't talk
lashon hora anymore.
Could you please explain your reluctance
to use shmita wine? You mentioned
today's shiur as well several months ago
making fun of someone's wife you dis-
Yeah, I called her a chacham for buying
a bottle
a shmita wine for her husband. That
wasn't the story. I I lied about the
story a little bit. I made it nice cuz
it was at then. But basically somebody
bought a bottle of shmita wine for a
certain occasion.
I said the the I I changed the story a
little bit. Not I don't want anybody to
feel bad. See, I am a little sensitive
to certain people's feelings.
But what what it was is you could get
these bottles of of shmita wine almost
for free and this person came and gave
it like as a chosson gift or something.
Something weird. So I That that's what I
was knocking. The point is of course
that you should you could drink shmita
wine. I said yesterday you just have to
be very, very careful and therefore I
don't advise it because every time we
tried it there's always a little bit
left in the cup and you're not in the
mood and then you have to you go back
and then by mistake the cleaning lady
throws it out and then it's a whole
That's what I was saying. It's lashon
hora, it's not ossur to eat. I was just
saying. No?
He says lo achla, it's may- maybe uh
it's a inyan to drink it. Doesn't the
Rambam consider it a mitzvah to consume
shmita food? Lo achla. Rather you must
be extremely careful, finish each kais,
finish the bottle, so we wouldn't use
the food with kedushas shvi'is for
catering or at a simcha, restaurants for
children, for adults who appreciate fine
wine and understand it's kodesh. Look,
in my house almost every single
wine cup during the meal there's a
little bit that's left over in the
bottom. So that's what I'm saying, it's
always an issue. Used to be consumed in
its entirety. Whatever, everybody do
what they want. I'm not a rov, I just
threw out my two cents. Why do you
condemn eating shmita food? You drink
shmita wine it's I don't understand.
With respect to normalizing learning the
daf, hopefully soon all Jewish people
will be learning. We made your value
Okay, was it worth saying this in the
email? Yeah, yeah. Okay. Rebbi
the koilel is sponsored by
no one.

of my 46th birthday on the holy day of
Hoshana Rabbah.
I'd like to take this opportunity to
give the bracha of Gefen gesund

MDY family, and all my family and
friends, and all of Klal Yisrael.
Beautiful.
You want to give me the bracha now live?
Get over here. You're wearing a kvittel.
You're wearing a kvittel. You should
have a good kvittel.
Oh, no.
[Music]
Yeshua, yeah, yeah, of course, of
course.
Amen.
Yeshua, thank you.
All right.
Daughter of the month.
You know, there's I forgot to tell you
this maaseh, but it's mamesh again now.
A beautiful story by Reb Shimon Pinkus,
he was on a plane and he's very makpid
not to drink water outside of the
sukkah.
So, but he was very, very thirsty.
But Reb Shimon Pinkus, he didn't drink,
he didn't drink. And he said, he wrote,
that he made a huge mistake.
Because there's an inyan not to drink
even shokol outside of the sukkah.
But there's a de rasha of simcha b'chol
regel. And he was over under the rasha.
Instead of being mekayem the de rasha,
you have to sometimes make the right
chashbon.
I thought it was a beautiful thing. No?
That you have this You have it in you,
it's a big inyan, but sometimes you have
to make the right chashbon. It's a
simcha b'chol regel. The whole flight is
in 10 hours all the way to America
wherever he's going, being mitztayer on
Yom Tov because of the inyan. So,
sometimes you have to
mamesh fast, yeah, on Yom Tov. Yeah, he
made it, that's what he said, he made a
shtickel. It's not a shaila of his part,
of course he's allowed to halacha
l'maaseh. He He had an inyan, he was
makpid, it was like a kabbalah of his
not to not to I try not drink outside of
the sukkah either, but I'll be very,
very mitztayer.
Zogt Gemara.
We're holding No, it's talking and
talking. You need to drink like on a
fast day. Omar Rav.
The afternoon daf on daf the last two
words on gimmel amud beis.
So we had a sugya here.
A machlokes Reb Meir and Rebbi Yehudah.
We could even show it a little bit here.
According to Reb Meir, when it comes to
hegdish, Reb Shimon ben Kidosh
And if you do kiddushin,
a person is mekadesh a woman with
hegdish. He has a bundle of money he's
going to give to the Beis Hamikdash and
he goes and gives it to a woman.
B'shogeg, he doesn't realize it's it's
it's the Beis Hamikdash. He has a few
bundles and he he thought he already
gave it to her. Whatever he thought, he
gave it to her.
Like kiddushin.
So we said we spoke about it yesterday
that
when it comes to money,
Reb Meir holds you can never take it out
of hegdish. And if you can't take it out
of hegdish, it's not me'ilah. Me'ilah
means
using it inappropriately, benefiting
from it,
destroying it, as we're going to the
Gemara is going to say, eating it, using
it as a candle. But when it comes to
money, Reb Meir holds you never it never
left
What's the difference if it's sitting in
this bag over here, in my house, or it's
sitting in the woman's house? It's the
same money, nothing happened. And Reb
Meir holds she's not
mekudeshes. It's bottom. And then they
asked also, what about if you try to
purchase something with it? Also, it's
not it's not a mechirah.
Because it never left the Beis
Hamikdash. So Rav says, listen. Chazon
Ish holds like Reb Meir. I looked up and
down the entire Shas. Every time Reb
Meir talks about me'ilah, shogeg, this,
I don't see what you're saying. V'lo
ematzinu hegdish b'shogeg eimaschal.
Every time
Reb Reb Meir talks about hegdish, he he
mentions the fact that when when you use
hegdish by mistake,
it becomes mechulal. It leaves the Beis
Hamikdash.
B'shogeg eimaschal, b'meizid mischal.
U'v'lo ematzinu hegdish eimaschal,
b'meizid mischal.
Even by meizid, it's mischal, says Rav.
Even if you do it on purpose, it's
me'ilah.
It leaves.
Oh.
So, what's with our Mishnah that if you
mekadesh a woman
with hegdish by mistake, she's not
mekudeshes. So he comes up with a huge
chiddush.
Here.
The Kohanim used to wear certain
begadim, the the Kohen Gadol wore
shmonah begadim.
A regular Kohen hedyot wore his begadim,
four begadim.
Now, the halacha is that if they're not
worn out,
then
there's no me'ilah. What's going on?
So,
does anybody remember where we used
where it mentions kost nice
Kohen shibalu?
Where Where do we use kost nice Kohen
shibalu? If it's worn out,
Oh, very good. The wicks of Simchas Beis
Hasho'eivah.
If it's worn out, then you take it, we
make those big wicks, the huge flames
that they had in Simchas Beis
Hasho'eivah.
But if it's not worn out, where there's
a problem. The Kohen is wearing these
clothes, he's benefiting from hegdish,
he's doing the avodah. But once the
avodah is over,
he has to remove his clothes
immediately. How could he be using the
clothes of the Beis Hamikdash?
So the Gemara says, "Hoyil v'nitnu
l'Kohanim begadim." Since the Torah
allowed you, the Kohen, to to warm up
with them, protect you from the sun,
l'vishlai nitna Torah l'malachei
hashareis.
It's an amazing concept. The Torah
wasn't given to malachim. We're not
malachim, we're human beings. The Torah
expected us to act like human beings.
So, you you don't finish the avodah, I
do the shchitah, but I I I I remove my
clothes and like within a millisecond
there's a stopwatch, boom.
They said, "Do shchitah, then take your
time, go to the dressing room, take it
off."
But what what happened to that whole
time in between? You're not doing the
avodah now.
So you're benefiting from hegdish. Oh,
once you're benefiting from hegdish,
then that means that you're not taking
this clothing out of the Beis Hamikdash
ever. You can't start
You have 10 minutes, you have 5 minutes.
There's no me'ilah when it comes to the
the clothing of the Beis Hamikdash.
So therefore, what?
It's always the Beis Hamikdash. Who owns
the clothing? There's a special You
know, there's a special room, a dressing
room over there. You go in there, you
find your size, you get dressed. Who
owns it? The Beis Hamikdash owns it.
From beginning to end.
Me'ilah means it becomes yours, becomes
private property.
Then if you mo'el, you take it out of
the Beis Hamikdash, you put it into your
own property, then
Gary, just a little lower, maybe.
Then then
once you take it out of the Beis
Hamikdash's property,
that's when you're mo'el, you you have
to bring a korban asham, you have to pay
25% of the whole thing. But if it
remains the Beis Hamikdash, over here in
this case, it remains the Beis
Hamikdash, you cannot remove it from the
Beis Hamikdash's property because it's
impossible. You're not a malach.
It would have to be the millisecond when
you're done, as the the knife is going
through the neck, you have to start
taking off your clothes.
That's impossible. So me'ilah, there's
no it remains Beis Hamikdash. And
therefore, what? You can't be mekadesh a
woman with it. That's what we're talking
over here. The Kohen went and gave this
woman his clothing, his Beis Hamikdash
clothing, it's not kiddushin. That's all
he's saying.
So a few things here.
It says over here, "L'vishlai nitna
Torah l'malachei hashareis." So,
step number one is that we have to
realize that we as human beings, the
Torah was given to us. And that's a
tremendous, tremendous chiyuv that we
have, and that's why we have Simchas
Torah. We dance and we're we're we're
happy that with the fact that we're not
malachim.
"Nitna Torah l'vnei Adam." That's that's
what the Torah was given to, to us. Why?
Because it's a tremendous chiyuv for us
to have the Torah. Every time we learn,
z'chusim, etc., etc., etc.
Another interesting story. It's not the
most appropriate one, but I've said
worse.
It's with the Steipler.
I'm going to say belashon nakiyah
mamesh, uh no pun intended.
There was a guy that had a little bit of
an issue.
When we moved to Eretz Yisrael when I
was a kid, like 10 years old, one of the
hardest things for me to get used to was
the Israeli toilet toilet paper.
Back in the day, you could actually see
words. I don't know if they still have
this toilet paper. It was pink, it was
red, all funny colors. You could see
words from newspapers, like mamesh
newspaper slash I don't know what. Huh?
And it says on it, "L'lo yichush
she'eilos g'nizah." Mamesh. You know,
you sometimes you could find a whole
pasuk or something in it. Never mind.
There's a guy, uh a fellow, that he
wouldn't stop using toilet paper until
he bled.
Because the the halacha is you have to
be mamesh naki naki naki.
He didn't know about famous b'dei thing.
It's ein sham, we're not going to go
into that chair, that was a whole other
thing. We lost a lot of people from that
chair. Next.
But the Steipler said, "No, m'eizin
shaila." The Steipler said, "L'vishlai
nitna Torah l'malachei hashareis." A
human being has to do what a human being
knows how to do.
There's a certain amount, zayl, you
don't have to like make yourself
meshugah that there shouldn't be a drop
should be drop. Whatever whatever's
normal, whatever's the "L'vishlai nitna
Torah l'malachei hashareis."
Fine.
Huh?
What? In the
And he says, "L'vishlai nitna Torah
l'malachei hashareis." Mishnah says it.
Huh? beautiful.
By the way,
it's time
that right now the coil right now as we
speak the coil is preparing for
a test on this is incredible half a
shas.
Half a shas. Cuz that's where we're
holding. We're holding half a shas.
Right after sukkas. Maybe it's a few
days after sukkas. Boom, half a shas.
So
for being part of the coil.
For adding every day.
Yeah.
Fine. So that is where he's of the
opinion that you could take it out.
Once they are already worn out, then
you're
then you take it out of the
great. But over here we're talking about
cousin
cousin that are not worn out. So they're
still part of the
you cannot
you make
or remove it.
There's a a
Reb
Schwartz he's a little bit of a let's
and he said that somebody once called
him up to ask him about a certain
bucker.
And it reminded me of the of my mice
with my calling up.
They asked the bucker. They asked about
the bucker. He said tremendous only by
me they didn't say that. They said other
stuff. Tremendous tremendous. He said he
said what about learning?
So this bucker happened to have
a head of a you know it wasn't the
greatest learner. So so Reb said he's
come out like a malach.
Come out like a malach.
So anyways, they I'm just going to
accept this call from my daughter in the
middle of I don't know she doesn't maybe
she doesn't have. Here I'll show the
oh no.
She hung oh no. Here anybody want to see
my can see my go.
Say hello to Mosha everybody. Okay,
great. That's not going to be I know
that's not going to be the
Hi Mosha. I'm
just in the middle of a there's a few
people listening. Okay? Bye.
No that part you can leave in but not as
a thumbnail.
Okay. So anyway,
so
the guy gets married and the father of
the of the
he starts talking to learning. The guy
is like they all come and he's in a
different world. So he calls Reb he says
you said he's yeah yeah he said he's
come out like a
a malach learning the
the
this guy is on a big he like
he knows
he's not bad. He's not not a malach.
He's much better than a malach. Fine.
So
it says the new money
the
old money. Oh.
So oh I I didn't say the part. This is
actually a question.
It
says my love I feel
okay what
I don't understand exactly what the was
having me know was
over there it says you are over me
it says
no my love I feel
I think even case of
I
did see it I forgot what it was.
So this is very important.
So this is very important. If anybody
wants to see that in a nutshell
you could go through this my love him.
It's
very very easy it's an easy read and
basically it goes through the whole
thing.
We have some time? Okay, I'll don't
worry. I'll say it the kids are.
Here's why is this thing not going?
I don't know.
Oh really?
That's why.
Threw it off?
Here this guy I want to
fight.
So in the this is by Rabbi Nathan Fiber
from column.
I wish he would still do sometimes he
does some more. He used to do it every
day.
In the they had something called
it's not like a
these pictures this is time for
to illustration purposes. Thank you. A
means that you put the money in in a
very narrow hole and it gets wider in
the bottom. Like we have a push this a
small hole that the money you can't
steal the money but the bottom is wide.
So this if you look over here there's
different there's different boxes in the
you can't put money you know today you
don't put money in there but
there also had a bunch of these pushkas.
So one of them said
once a taken.
There's six pushkas that said
okay.
What's going on? So this is basically
101.
There was a a room called the of the
sky.
And I would give a shackle.
You're supposed to give it once a year.
They would start from
all the way through
announce
announce a shackle and they would give
this money. What do they do with the
money? They would buy
every day like today where there's a lot
of and
all this stuff. What do you buy? How do
you buy that carbon? You buy it with the
with the shackle. The shackle. And what
about the carbon every day? You need
You need money for the carbon every day
it's very expensive to
from this money.
Now if people would give after
Nissan
then we've gone to another pushka called
a taken. The older money. This
is new and this is old.
And they did something else with the
money. So if there was left over money
you see the three this just three
parts of the money.
If they had too much money and they
didn't they didn't they would come they
would so first of all A they would fill
up a three giant boxes of money
each one was a side thing three boxes on
15 days before Pesach.
And 15 days before
and before sukkas. 15 days before
sukkas.
If there's left over money then they
would use that money I just threw in
here a like the wall you see the top
part is the animals. The second line the
left over money was for fixing the walls
the the the towers that kind of thing in
the
I didn't
great. Some say just the the outside of
the
okay.
Says the more.
The
more taken.
The new money the money that everybody
gives when they're supposed to give it
between the
Nissan
there's on that money.
By
the way when it comes to the word it
always is counter intuitive. means if
you're if you do it you're over a
doesn't mean you should do it. Typically
in
means oh you could be no. You're over on
the of the
and
and you're not over on the
but taken.
What does that mean?
So based on what we just said
the
is there to buy
so if you use that money
then you're over
it's for
but if the money is like the
sky
and the
whatever different money's
what are we going to do with that money?
We're going to fix a wall. So if you use
that money it's not the end of the
world. You're not over it.
It may
not be
it may no there's on all money. So it
may be.
My love the
of the sky.
Stop I wanted to talk about it yesterday
but as a
as it's important to remember that we're
talking about
and we're very it's very foreign to us
but
I once heard a word it says
I
that gave us
two
and Pesach. The two of blood. What's
that?
You couldn't find other a little bit
in the middle give a little bit why why
blood?
Because blood you make a it's a bond
it's a
it's a bris. That's how you do it like
like in Japan they want to make a real
deal so they cut the pinky off or
whatever they do blood to blood. It's a
it's a way that you there's a way they
connect
and when you think about a carbon it's
the same thing same you take the blood
of the animal you you shut the carbon
that's how you get close
we don't have that. We're missing that
we're missing that connection we have
feel love.
Which is not the same thing. So we miss
the make those.
So it may be
it may be.
You could you over on on
even on the lower levels of money even
the money that's left over.
But my
according to Rav
on ice.
These walls of your
aim.
What do you do with the wall? The wall
you sit on the wall. You walk on the
wall. You stand in the in the shade of
the wall. So the wall gives you a lot.
[Music]
So cannot be that the
the wasn't given to us.
And the didn't say make sure you don't
step in the shade of the wall. When you
walk in your you should always jump
around all the shades. And then if
you're tired it's impossible. That's not
what wanted you to do.
So
there's no there shouldn't be any
on the wall. There shouldn't be any
on the money that's designated to fix
the wall.
The
you don't do
it. Also.
How did they build these walls? From the
money that people gave the the shackle.
This none
the wall the towers and anything the
roads of the city by Mishnah from the
leftover from the second pile whatever
is left over.
No, according to you, there shouldn't be
me law. You just explained
that there's no me law when it comes to
things that it's impossible to take care
of like the
clothing of the coin. So, there
shouldn't be any me law on this money.
So,
see you right. We have to switch the
names. It's not good. It doesn't fit
into what we just said.
If a stone from the wall of your slime
fell off the wall,
they have now in your slime
by the
the
Isn't there Is there a southern wall?
No, the
the southern wall. Like next to the
southern wall is a like a pile of
stones. They say that fell off from the
time of the urban. And then I don't know
if it's I don't know about these things,
but one day I'm going to take a tour.
There's a guy that's very very close to
the sheer who's in charge of the keeps
them back. I have to go to talk to they
found new things. But, supposedly, he
didn't tell me this, but supposedly like
you could see scorch marks on these
stones that there was a fire whatever
different things. I'll go buy them. You
take one of these stones.
They even say like next to the there's a
store that sells like beautiful jewelry.
And one of their specialties is like
stones that they took right off of the
and they chiseled it into beautiful
things. Okay, so you got you have a
problem here. You have a
It's not stone from
I don't know if it's from the bias.
And it has in it. Which reminds me of
another thing. That's why there are
people
that don't kiss the
like myself. They don't even touch. I
have never touched the I don't think in
my life because of this that my father
told me when I was younger
of that that the Arabs built houses on
the and then rubbed down a little bit
even a fraction of a millimeter. Gives
it There's such a I'm not telling people
to do anything. But, the point is that
there's a problem of using the stones.
Maybe, we'll see.
And
The says
that you're on the
It says
and so therefore also the
the the coins clothes should be
Okay, so you already said it's not
I said okay, very good. But, I have a
different question.
According to is there any
in the walls of your slime or is not?
So, this we learned in
This comes straight out of A person
takes a loaf of bread or takes
a brownie and he says, "This donut
should be like a sheep."
What he's referring to is it should be
like a carbon copy. It should have It
should be I don't want it. I I want to
give it to the same image. Here
we have some pictures.
In the
they had a special room
that was specific for It's called
It's called a special that housed all
the carbons. So, you don't have to
carbon all the way from all the way from
Shamash.
You went there. There was a special
booth. You purchased the ticket. You
went with the ticket. You went to this
room. You got yourself a carbon.
So, he says, "I wanted carbon."
Like the deer. Like the the barn. Like
this room over here. They're all carbon.
Here's another room. They had a special
room with logs with wood for the
Every There was a special to put a
certain amount of logs every day.
It has carbon. Like the fire.
Like the Just look above me. Carbon.
You want to show, Gary?
You might as
well have it.
So, you're showing the others.
Oh.
The is the tall thing
that jets out. That one.
It's 200 ft tall.
You see the also in the lower right
corner.
What's
your slime?
Your slime is like the walls of your
slime. It's interesting that today when
talking about the of your slime
that in the in the
I shall not rabble.
It's going to be It's going to be
greater.
I forgot exactly the word. Anybody
remember? It's going to be greater on
the
next I make this that we're going to
have
It's going to be greater than the first.
Something like that. But, something
about rabble talks about.
So, tomorrow
Also, by the way, there is a sheet
though and it's a controversial thing,
but I love controversy. There's a sheet
that says in the
that if you go up the bias,
you're
on the regular.
You don't have to go into the
Just going to That's why there's many
many people that go to the bias.
Me personally, I I I go with the that
say you shouldn't go up. It's dangerous.
Everybody holds you could go to certain
parts of the The big question is
where are you going? Cuz you could be
caught if you step in the wrong place.
What?
We'll make them first. That's yeah.
The guy came over to me maybe you should
promote it as I can't promote something
I don't really do, but okay. This is
There's people in the sheer There's
people in this room right now that go
all the time to the bias.
It's one of those
controversial things. What?
Donny's not there now. Donny
You go, no?
I mean there's a bunch of people.
Right, what's the danger, Donny?
To to to As far as I know, as long as
you walk around,
you're not anywhere near cars territory.
But, you have you have to know where to
go. There's a certain tree that you
don't go past.
There's a
There's a square. Just make a square.
You go around.
Uh-huh.
And tell me you were busy selling me
this guy that that was on his way with a
sheep up there. You want to show the
sheep.
Talk to you tomorrow.
So, the bottom line is
holds that your slime doesn't have
carbon.
The walls of your slime.
So, if I say my bread should be like the
walls of your slime, it's not it's not
it's not another. It's not carbon.
Your slime with the with the with the
cough.
Should be something that's a carbon.
So,
you're right. Okay.
What says
if he says it should be like your slime
or not.
Oh.
So, they hold like
not like us.
[Music]
The what? If you recall yesterday we
learned that he holds that it's a
question of whether
the color agrees to get engaged with my
sir or with
or maybe the
won't agree to it. It's not convenient
to go up to your slime. That sort of
thing.
Therefore,
he holds when it comes to
if you
are
a woman with
carbon.
Don't confuse the two things.
And two different things. means owned by
the English. He's
gives her a ring from the
property. If he does it on purpose,
she's
It comes out of out of the
It's
If you do it by mistake,
nobody wants. We said yesterday the
She doesn't want it. He doesn't want it.
So, there's no You're not taking it out
of They don't want it. If they knew that
it's part of
They wouldn't want to get engaged with
it.
It's actually even uses a
method.
Had they known, they would have never
done it. It's a method.
However,
[Music]
but if you took this money and you gave
it to a woman and even though she's not
to you and even though you didn't remove
it from the of your slime,
Ask the makes zero sense what you just
said. If you
If she doesn't become
And it didn't leave the of your slime,
why in the world would you have a Why in
the world would you have a carbon? You
only have a carbon when it's
when you took it out of the of your
slime.
Not if you try to take it out of the of
your slime.
What
he meant to say is
Those are the same words. If you do it
by mistake, it's not a good
The like that
is that happens when you do something
like that.
And that's the what we were discussing
before. If you consume a
product, now you can't say, "Oh, I did
it by mistake."
It's gone. It's out of this world. So,
because it's out of this world, you're
liable.
We're talking about money. Money, a
coin, nothing happened to it. So, I took
it from here and I put it into this
woman's hand.
But, it didn't change
it didn't change ownership. It's still
the of your slime through and through.
And
I hear there. What's you guys' names, by
the way?
Zevy Freund, then?
From?
Both of you from
Monsey? Williamsburg?
Who else do we have here? Oh, you look
new. What's your name?
And you're son of a from?
The famous son of a
Wow, not a lose. Come more often. Sadik.
Who else? I don't think I ever saw your
face. I heard the name.
And as well as
Oh, you.
What's your name?
Yankee Pearl?
You go from where?
Monsey. You know the guy?
You don't know? For Ennis?
He's denying it. Do you know him?
No, not really.
All right, Ven off. No, Hammerburger
also from Monsey. Wow. You don't know
either of them.
You lived your whole life in Monsey? I
lived not my whole life, but
um 47 years. 47 years before it became
popular. Wow. Anybody else?
You or not knew you in the sukkah
yesterday. Show me what's your name.
Rich Marinelli. Rich Marinelli. Mazel
tov on your grandson. Where is he?
Should have brought him.
They're in the Where do you live? You
live also in Monsey? No? I
uh just about a mile away.
Same thing. It's wow, it's a Monsey day
today. Give a and you don't know any of
these guys.
Not yet. And they don't know you. Okay,
give a valid. Unbelievable.
Yes. You also go on to that chat, that
uh Monsey chat. Be part of it. No?
You're on it.
That's your clan in the whole zach.
Oh, and you're coming to the shabbaton,
right?
You're coming to shabbaton?
Put on the spot. What?
Shabbaton. Yes.
What?
Monsey. We need some more room sold.
Okay, fine.
There was something something come.
Yeah.
Okay, fine.
So, Re Meir is of the opinion that
ma'aser What's ma'aser? Ma'aser sheni.
A person has a bunch of fruit. He gives
his trumah to the kohen and gives his
ma'aser to the levi. Then he gives 10%
whatever's left over to himself.
That Re Meir holds is not his money.
He's allowed to eat it, but it's not
his. It's mamon gavoha. And therefore,
if you try to get married with that
money, it doesn't work. It's not your
money to to be mekadesh a woman with.
So, halakha Re Meir by ma'aser.
Why? Hoyel vesason um lontana say,
because we have
a raya like we have a mishna like Re
Meir.
We have a halakha like Re Yehuda could
show this chart again if we want. When
it comes to hekdesh, according to Re
Yehuda,
beshogeg is a good kiddushin. Only
according to Re Meir, like kiddushin.
But according to Re Yehuda, it's a good
kiddushin if you mekadesh beshogeg. That
means that Re Meir holds Re Yehuda holds
that you take it out of the Beit
Hamikdash and it becomes your money and
you mekadesh your woman. But halakha Re
Yehuda by hekdesh, hoyel vesason um
lontana say, again we have a mishna like
Re Yehuda.
So, we're going to go through it.
So, kerem revai goes like this. Reboy
side, the first 3 years of a tree is
called orlah. It's assur behana'ah.
The fourth year is called kerem revai if
it's a vineyard. Netah revai if it's
not. There's a machlokes of does does
this apply to all trees or not all
trees? Only a vineyard. The Gemara uses
a loshon of kerem revai. I think there
might be a girsa here of
netah revai.
Okay.
So,
I once heard that
I don't know if this is true, you can
check it out, that the best fruit from a
tree is on the fourth year. They say the
better esrogim once heard a esrog they
would say best is on a on the fourth
year. What happens to be that you say,
okay, this fruit I'm giving to Hakadosh
Baruch Hu.
Sort of not I'm not taking it for
myself. You but it's really you get to
eat it. It's but it's kodesh. So, that's
the English translation.
There's a lot of similarities between
the fruit of of the fourth year to
ma'aser sheni.
We know ma'aser sheni,
you bring up the fruit to Yerushalayim
you eat it in Yerushalayim. That's the
only place you could eat it. Now, if you
don't want you can't bring it up to
Yerushalayim, it's too heavy, too much,
so you trade the fruit for money. And
you carry the money up to Yerushalayim,
then you purchase fruit food in
Yerushalayim. Same thing with netah
revai. If it's too heavy, first you
should eat it only in Yerushalayim. If
you can't eat in Yerushalayim, it's too
heavy, change it into money. Now,
with ma'aser sheni, there's another
halakha. If you change it into money and
you're doing it yourself, you have to
add 25%.
That's a chumesh.
Does that halakha also apply to netah
revai?
Says the Gemara,
Beit Shammai oyrim, you have it like
above lines there, let's say.
This is not in kerem revai. Beit Shammai
oyrim, ein lo chumesh. You don't have to
add another 25%
to the money that you used to be podeh
to redeem it out of netah revai. Ve'ein
lo bi'ur.
There's another halakha by ma'aser sheni
that in years 3 and 6, which are really
the years of ma'aser ani, those years
you got to get rid of all your ma'aser
sheni. You have to destroy it.
Not so by netah revai, by kerem revai.
Beit Shammai oyrim, yesh lo
Not true.
You have to add a chumesh. You have to
be meva'er it.
Beit Shammai oyrim, yesh lo peret um
yesh lo olelos. Peret means when you're
grabbing the the grapes, so any grape
that drops on the on the ground, you
leave it there for the poor person.
Yesh lo olelos. These are olelos.
On the right is regular grapes. On the
left is olelos. Those shvakh grapes you
leave
for the poor.
Rashi just points out something very
interesting.
This is netah revai. Where do you eat
netah revai?
Kerem revai. Where do you eat it? Only
in Yerushalayim. So now, the poor person
he finds all these grapes on the ground.
This the small the thing that fell.
Where does he eat it?
He has to go to Yerushalayim.
It's like a shvakh kind of tzedakah.
He found like three grapes on the
ground. Now he has to shlep three grapes
to Yerushalayim. Okay.
And
by the way, I have to tell you this cuz
I've been struggling the other shiur to
find the word.
I was I was looking for a word in
Yiddish that describes like the worst
kiddushin you can possibly do. What's
the worst kiddushin?
So, we came up with oiske kvech the
title. Yeah?
Uh but that's not what I was looking
for. I realized that in davening I was
looking for it.
Oiske klaf teishana. Beautiful. Thank
you, Rebbe Elimelech. That's what I was
looking for. Oh, oiske klaf teishana.
Now, Rebbe Elimelech, could you do
kiddushin with oiske klaf teishana?
Does it have a shaviv proof to do it?
So, could be. I was thinking during
davening. I said, but oiske klaf
teishana, what What's worse? Getting
engaged to a woman with with um oiske
kvech the titles or
oiske klaf teishanas? So, I think oiske
klaf teishana is even worse. It's the
worst kiddushin possible. This is what
the best I came up with.
But it might have a shaviv proof cuz
some people say that the leaf has a
certain segulah in it. It's a certain
segulah. Then I heard somebody say, if
you want banim zacharim, so you take the
the the branch and you use it as a
skewer. She uses one in the barbecue.
Got some ma'aser. Guaranteed mamash
money guaranteed from a certain certain
certain mekubal. And I said it might
have a shaviv. It might have a shaviv.
And that was lumaisa.
That's the word I was looking for. Thank
you. Where were you then?
Huh?
What? On top of me?
Yeah, oiske oiske klaf teishanas. Yeah.
That's the important.
Uh Uba
So, Beit Hillel say, everything is your
it's again counterintuitive. Kuloy egosh
means put it all in the barrel
because it's not even yours. It's so not
yours that it's yours.
In other words, if it was yours, it's
if it was yours, you have to give some
to the ani. It's yours. It's a regular
fruit. You have to give to the ani. But
it's not yours. It's the Beit Hamikdash
of Hakadosh Baruch Hu. You don't give
anything to the poor. So, who gets to
drink it all? You. You know what's going
on here? It's interesting.
Fine. My time with Beit Hillel. Gamrei
kodesh kodashim ma'aser. Here's the
pasuk.
It says um shana revi'is yikorei
perikodesh l'Hashem.
Oh, hold on a second. This might be
interesting. Hold on.
Rebbe Nachman Mendel.
Hold on.
Yom Hoshana Rabbah. Kol hakavod zehr
gezunt.
Okay. The nevu'ah that he got that it's
going to be greater than the thing that
happened on Hoshana Rabbah. Okay, give a
valid.
Zogt die Gemara,
um
And I called him before shiur and I
couldn't get through to him. He actually
did get through to him. I heard like
chassidim screaming and it was in the
middle of is in bells. I guess they
don't finish until
who knows what. Okay.
Fine.
My time with Beit Hillel. Gamrei kodesh
kodashim ma'aser. So, here you see the
the gzeirah shavah. It says um shana
revi'is, that's obviously
uh kerem revai on the fourth year. And
it says by ma'aser, chumesh
revi'is
l'Hashem kodesh l'Hashem. Kodesh
kodashim ma'aser. Mah ma'aser yesh lo
chumesh yesh lo bi'ur. Whatever ma'aser
has,
kerem revai has.
So, ma'aser sheni has you have to give
extra when you redeem it, you have to
pay extra 25%. Yesh lo bi'ur, you have
to burn it. If kerem revai, yesh lo
chumesh yesh lo bi'ur. Beit Shammai
oyrim, gamrei kodesh kodashim
Come on feel low. Now be silly and we go
always like
Why do you say that you don't have to
give something to the poor person? It's
yours.
Otherwise moment had you. And a laugh
mayor. So obviously it was like your
mayor and here's our source like your
mayor because Allah has like be silly.
And be silly must all like your mayor
then what is moment of a liar that's why
it all goes into the God. Here we go to
and what's your right like your view
that when it comes to headish that what?
That
headish if you give it to a woman be shy
gig you
but not be amazing.
It's not. She like be a
the gizber of the base of remember
yesterday we talked about the gizber the
guy in charge of all the funds of
he takes some of the money and he gives
it. Rashi says before he's talking about
giving to the cotton.
So the cotton
I'm not having anything you but if you
it's very interesting.
We discuss a number of times when it
comes to me these kind of things
the person doing it she will be out to
get the niska. Actually gets a remedy.
The gizber
realizes mistake before
his
got anywhere did anything. So he it
becomes amazing.
Right? Because he realized what he did.
So he's not
because it's only when you do it by
mistake.
I can be more like a show you see. So
Rashi says we're talking about here a
case that both of them realized the
and the gizber everybody realized the
mistake.
They're amazing.
Who gets the
the company? I find it fascinating. Here
you have a guy who has no clue he's a
store owner he's taking money from
people minding his own business.
He's over all the time it's one of these
conditions.
They're not going to he's not going to
get any for it. But he's the one that
smile that's the way it works. Because
if you're amazing and you know for sure
so you have to put all the blame on the
guy that doesn't know and the only
person that doesn't know is the store
owner. I know it's a very interesting.
Oh.
So anyways you see over here that
when you remember when you're a shark
what happened Morty where are you? I'm
right here. I tell you should sit you
know what?
No sit over here come on.
I mean did I make you I put you in a bad
mood just being here? Okay. Good whoo.
Feel better anyway.
So it's a good thing I told you
okay whatever okay.
So what you see is that when you do it
by mistake you're not over when you do
it by on purpose I'm sorry when you do
it on purpose be amazing you're not over
me when you do it by mistake you are
over the store owner is over that's
exactly what we used to say you do be
shy gig you you engaged get engaged be
shy gig then it's a good condition you
do it be amazing it's not.
What is again review the holds that my
sister Shani's moment had you do you
could could
consider it your own money.
You the redeem your own fruit you have
to add how much? 25%.
Oh here's the keyword. If somebody gave
you a gift now
says you
How can you give somebody something
that's not yours? It's it's the base of
it's moment of a liar.
You could eat it I could give it to you
you hear what's going on here? I could
give you the my sister Shani you're my
guest here's my sister Shani you could
eat it. But it's not yours. It's not
yours that you're
to to give a on it it's not yours. Never
again you could eat it doesn't mean it's
yours.
So it cannot be remember mayor.
Well my my sister moment of a liar. I
love you you have the
opinion my sister Shani is yours and I
give it to my friend as a gift it
becomes his. And he has to give the
fifth.
Low low low remember mayor
going the yard leave it to me
It's talking about that he gave his
friend a bunch of fruit without my
sister without without my sister.
Partial table.
There's nothing we learned already in
the sector.
Did we?
That
there's a concept that the the true my
sister is in the fruit. You just didn't
separate it yet but it's in there.
That's not what we hold over here he
holds that the true my sister is not in
the fruit and I gave you just plain old
fruit. I was like so different I was
able to give it to you because if the
true my sister are in the fruit I just
don't know where they are and they're
waiting for me to separate them then I
have no ability to give it to you
because it's all my business. But over
here I'm giving you fruit that has zero
true my sister in it. So I can give it
to you as a gift. Now once you have it
you take it and you give true my sister.
Tell Shima. I put the Shima low.
If you take your fourth year fruit and
you want to redeem it so you can bring
it up to your slime you have to add a
fifth.
But it also says
you need to
whether you got it as a gift. So you
want to say the same thing again money
eat money. You
have to say the same thing again
how could hold that you can give a gift
to my sister. We just established my
sister there's no gift why? Because it's
moment of a liar. So too when it comes
to
you shouldn't be able to give it as a
gift because it's moment of a liar
that's not yours. I love you you though.
It must be you though who doesn't know
and anyways but my sister holds it's
moment of a liar.
So you want to say the same thing again
remember mayor. Welcome my sister going
to have kiss your small daughter. When
here so first of all here's a puzzle.
You got you got now you got your square.
Thank you thank you.
What was that?
Two more?
You want me to I would rather sugar I'll
be fine like um I'll be on so much
water.
So we have to add a fifth that's in the
puzzle. This small boy side.
These little tiny things.
Over here we have trees by the way in um
in the alone which I forgot to mention
has all the
in there they have pomegranate all
thing.
So it's very annoying when you see our
cousins they come sometimes and they
start grabbing the olives off the tree.
So what do you go go to your play what
are you coming to my city whatever.
No one saw a guy taking off these olives
literally this big.
I already told you it's not good to eat
an olive raw it's the worst thing ever.
But it's like this small smaller like in
this picture and he was eating with his
bread. Something about that. Anyway
so no because he holds that that's a
fruit that's not much what we're talking
about over here.
You know you small daughter. Is this a
fruit or not? Rashi explains it's not
even this it's like when the flower just
the the moment the flower falls off
whatever is behind the flower a little
dot.
With like your small daughter
you know of the opinion that it's a
fruit we all it's not a fruit. Tell
Shima.
Should we do this one okay tell Shima.
How where we holding time wise?
Over an hour?
So we're over an hour let's stop right
over here
have a good morning.
May the sham motzei Shabbat Yom Tov at
9:30.
