alich and so was my father SCH Isaac of
blessed memory as well as my grandfather
my zi RAB Abraham of blessed
memory in fact my grandfather studied
Torah under the guidance and teachings
of the rebi rashab the fifth laaba rebby
in
Russia and it was the re rashab who
counseled and directed my grandfather to
leave Russia and flee to safety before
World War I as well as before the
Russian
Revolution after detouring through
turkey and Palestine my grandfather
finally made it to America and because
he was
laich and laich's are strict when it
comes to kasus he was fired from his
first job in New York as a chicken
shakat on the very first day why because
he refused to approve a chicken that he
believed that was not
Kosher and so approximately
in
1917 my grandfather ended up as a rabbi
in the state of
Vermont in this remote Outpost of
American Judaism he developed the Jewish
community in the adjacent cities of
Mount pilia and
Barry he kept close ties with them after
he left in
1942 to be with the F laab rebi in
Brookland New
York in
1948 it was this community in inspired
by my grandfather that was instrumental
in smuggling arms over the Canadian
border for shipment to a newborn state
of Israel at that time there was an
embargo and it was illegal for Americans
to send arms to Israel and without These
Arms the new Jewish State might not have
survived the attacks of its surrounding
Arab
neighbors because of the blessings and
guidance of the Reb rashab the f rebi
gave to my grandfather he saved both my
grandfather's physical and spiritual
life and by extension that of his
children grandchildren great
grandchildren and even great great
grandchildren thank God so it is easy to
understand why someone like me with the
unconditional love and Partnership of my
wife
bacheva is committed to Israel in a
uniquely labit way in other words we are
committed through kabad
[Music]
now I know that
kabad it's the do central I know that
has been all things to many people for
over 200 years I know about the free
loan funds and the dental clinics I know
about the multiple scolis residents and
the mass bar and Bas mitzvah for Orphan
children I know about helping new
immigrants and daycare centers for
children of poor Working Families and
anyone and every one of these programs
and projects is vital significant and
reason to be excited and proud to be
here this
evening what impresses my wife and me is
K kad's special effort to ensure that
Jewish people of Israel are properly fed
and
nourished the opportunity that Bev and I
have to make it possible for thousands
of poor Jews to eat properly well this
is a source of endless Joy and let me
tell you it's a one-way Street we are
the ones who receive the pleasure out of
the Holy work of
kabad after all the centuries of
Oppression and poverty after the horrors
of the Holocaust and the Soviet Union
there was finally a place where a Jew
never has to go hungry and why because
of K
[Music]
kabad this is a gift which gives us
fulfillment every single day of Our
Lives the truth is in Ideal World we
would be making a dinner inviting kabad
as our guest of honor because kabad
gives us great meaning to our lives
kabad empowers us to have thousands of
people in need men women and children
Holocaust Survivors new immigrants
widows widowers and orphans all sitting
at our virtual dining room table morning
noon and
night and it's not just the 20 soup
kitchens or the food baskets that get
delivered to thousands of homes on a
regular basis those are obvious but when
I think of the unique hod of the
subsidized

supermarket inas and online which was
one of the projects my wife bacheva and
I were privileged to
sponsor who know that this project saved
proud but needy families approximately
$1.7 million American dollars this past
year alone on their fruit purchases well
that's a feeling that is absolutely
Priceless yes Co kabad eliminates all
the barriers that confront the hungry
even those who are too proud to dine at
a soup kitchen or Too Proud to receive a
food delivery they have a face-saving
way to afford quality nutrition by
having a store where they can shop the
way you and I shop choosing what they
like making proper meals for their
families oil all while saving 40% this
goes Way Way Beyond Sedaka this is pure
and simple as a businessman I ask myself
why am I in business and of course the
answer is to make a profit but then what
does one do with profit with one's
business and the answer for most
successful business people is that they
use it to improve the quality of their
life lives I am no different in this
regard except that I like you have
learned that the best way to improve the
quality of Our Lives is by improving the
quality of life of those who are less
fortunate than we
are so yes I am laicha and laicha
proudly dedicated to call kabad and I
especially proud when I see my own
children follow ing in my footsteps and
making their own important contributions
to this holy
organization my wife BV and I want to
thank RAB dman and his remarkable staff
both here and in Israel for their
outstanding work these are men who could
have made a fortune in business with
their skills energy and single-minded
focus yet instead they have chosen to
work in the trenches of the Reb of the
rebi sedoka so that those less fortunate
can benefit from K
various projects and so that people like
us can find every day filled with
purpose and meaning and filled with
happiness because we are part of this
fantastic
Endeavor we thank you all for this
meaningful honor and thank you very much
