Join me as we learn Kumish for Tuesday,
the third Torah reading of Hukas and
Balok combined. Yesterday, we learned
about the Jewish people standing around
the rock where Moshe brought water for
them by hitting the rock. However,
because he didn't speak to the rock, it
was decreed upon him and Aaron that they
would not enter the land of Israel. The
Jewish people continue their travels
trying to enter through Edom, go pass
through Edom. However, Edom does not
allow. Today, we continue as the Jewish
people travel on towards the land of
Kenan, the passing of Aaron Amalik's
second attack, and as well as the snakes
that the Jewish people have to contend
with after the cloud of glory
disappears. All these events, the cloud
of glory, the well of Miriam, though
they were there first, a well because of
Miriam and the cloud because of Aaron,
all of them returned in the merit of
Moshe.
Chapter 20 verse 22
and they traveled on from Kadesh
and all the people came to the mountain
to arrived at her.
Verse 22
meaning that they were all complete
worthy
and they were ready to go into the land
of Israel. Meaning at this point,
all the people that already the decree
happened that they were supposed to die
out before they entered the land of
Israel have already died out.
They all died out already in the desert.
And all those that are left are alive
here today to enter as we're going to
see in the book of Deuteronomy where
Moshe tells them, you are your whole
today to connect to God and to enter
alive into the land of Israel. all those
that's who we are with today and that's
who the next part of the book of numbers
into the book of Deuteronomy the Torah
will be addressing
why was it called which is like a double
mountain name was like a mountain on top
of a mountain
like a small apple on top of a big apple
explains
even though that generally the clouds
would go and the clouds of glory would
flatten out the mountains mountains
still in
there were three mountains that remained
nonflattened.
Which three were they?
One mountain which was Mount Si for the
Torah
which Aaron was going to be buried on
Moshe where Moshe was going to be buried
on. Verse 23.
God said to Mosha
at the mountain of
the border of the land of saying
what happens over here is because they
want they were next to Asov and they
almost want to identify with what Asov
was doing therefore their actions their
behaviors wasn't so great and because of
that
passed which was
as we find later on also the
tells us in the book of chronicles we
find he tells the king of Yehud at the
time
because you became friendly with who was
the king of the Israelites at the time
which was not a nice guy to put it
simply and they made boats together and
they were traveling together therefore
you will not be successful as well
because of his frat patonizing with
people who are not appropriate.
Verse 24,
what's going to happen is that Aaron is
going to return and going to go back to
his nation. Meaning he will gather to
his people. He will not enter the land
that I gave that I'm giving to the
Jewish that I gave to the Jewish people
because you rebelled against what I've
said. You've defied my laws even when it
came to the waters of dispute.
Verse 25.
Take Aaron and his son
and bring them up to the mountain.
How are you going to take him? What does
it mean to take him? Convince him.
You're going to tell him words of
consolation. You're going to say,
"If he's going to die, what what are you
going to tell him? Lucky are you that
you're going to see that your crown
which means the crown of the high priest
you're go you're very lucky because
you're going to see that your uh
priesthood the fact that you're the high
priest the coingal is going to go over
to your children I will not merit to
such great things as my children will
not be my successor verse 26
and Aram will then remove his clothes
and you're going to dress these clothes
unto Allar his
will gather to his people and die there.
What does it mean as clothing?
The clothing the eight garments of the
high priest. What was he telling him?
Technically speaking, why did he have to
take them off? The was not allowed to
wear the special garments outside the
holy temple. But this is what he was
telling him.
Get him dressed and take it off him.
meaning at this moment he had to take it
off and give it to Alazer even though
technically he was not allowed to wear
them outside the holy temple. This was a
temporary law that was given to Aaron
that he was allowed to wear the eight
garments even outside the holy temple.
He said to Aaron he
go into the cave and he went in he saw
over there
a bed that was set and a candle lit. He
told them, "Go up to the bed and he went
up. Stick out your hands." He stick out
his hands. Close your mouth. He closed.
Close your eyes. And he closed his eyes.
And this is the way that Aram passed.
At that point, Moshe was jealous. He
wanted to say he wished that he would be
able to die in that same way. What we
would call a kissing death where he had
no pain and suffering. He just closed
his eyes and God took his soul. The Zos.
That's why we read read later in the
book of Deuteronomy when God tells Moshe
about going up onto the mountain about
his passing that he says
you're going to die the same way your
brother Aaron died
that type of death that you craved for
verse 27
did as God commanded and they went up to
the mountain in front of all the people.
Verse 27.
Moshe did it even though it was very
difficult for him to watch his brother
and deal with his brother's passing. He
did not hold back and did followed
exactly what God said.
Moshe took off Aaron's clothing of his
clothing
and he clothed Elazar his son with it
there on the top of the mountain
and came down the mountain.
And all the people saw that has passed
and they cried for 30 days.
All the Jewish people
when they saw motion coming down from
the mountain
did not come down. They said we
said he died. He said,
"How is it possible that a person that
was able to hold back the angel of death
that we read about in two weeks ago's
Torah reading where the angel of death
came amongst and started making a plague
and Aram went with the incense amongst
them and stopped the pass stopped the
plague? How is it possible?" And he
slept the angel of death to the tent of
meeting to the tabernacle. How then is
it possible that the angel of death
should be able to control our own? So
right away
asked that people should see so they
should not accuse him of any wrongdoing
and therefore the angels on high showed
a bed
they saw on high Aram was lying in a bed
passed and only then that's why it says
they saw that Aaron died literally that
they saw that Aaron was lying in a bed
that no longer alive
all the people all the Jewish people
rash
men and women
because Aram was a person who pursued
peace and brought men and women,
husbands and wives together and stopped
arguments. So therefore everybody
appreciate who Aaron was and because of
that everybody mourned Aron's passing.
Kova.
The word kgova means that he passed. And
what this word kovva as we're going to
see um there are different ways of how
they're interpreted and rashi brings
different interpretations over here that
we're going to see the word kava.
Rashi says I say
that the Aramaic translation that it
says that all the Jewish people saw that
Aaron died.
He's making a mistake because then it
would say that everybody saw that he
died.
only if he translates the word in the
Taruma Aramaic translation
means
that they became afraid
or they were seen
because our rabbis explained that the
word key when we say in our verse means
because meaning as we explain according
to the medish that the reason why the
Jewish people were afraid. At this
point, the clouds of glory because of
Aaron's passing have been removed.
Therefore, they were afraid of what was
going on here. Now, they were afraid
that they're uh that they're prone to be
attacked by the enemies. Like explained,
don't read the word and they saw they
were afraid.
This is the only way you can explain key
to explain because
this is explaining of what happened
previously. It says they were scared. So
therefore key why were they scared?
Because now Aaron died and now there is
no clouds of glory
because
if you're going to explain it according
to the Aramaic translation
that all the people saw
then what does it mean because what did
they see? Because they saw because Aaron
died. How does that make sense
that not that they saw because Aaron
died? They saw key in this case means
that Aaron died.
As Rashi explains
that many times we can find that the
word key has many different translations
and sometimes it can be that as we find
and he gives other cases where the word
key can be that as well.
Verse chapter 21 verse one. Now that
Aram passes away, the clouds of glory
are not uh they are protecting the
Jewish people. The Jewish people are
susceptible to any attacks. Because of
this, Malik sees an opportunity to try
to attack the Jewish people
and the Canananites, the king of Ard,
who was sitting in the south, who lived
in the south
that the Jewish people have come through
the route of that the spies previously
traveled
and he waged war against the Jewish
people
and he took captives from them.
What does it mean that the heard? What
did he hear? Hear past
now the clouds of glory are protecting
the Jewish people
as it says in attracted toash 3A
which was referring to theani were
always there like they were there like a
a pain in the neck. They were there like
a strap that was going to hurt the
Jewish people.
They were there at all times to ready to
hurt and to punish the Jewish people and
to hurt them.
This is what they were sitting in the
south. This is it says
were sitting in the south.
Over here the Torah changes the
terminology to sayanites.
So over here he the this is because that
the Jewish people when they were praying
to God that the Canananites should be
put in their hands and they should be
able to fight them and therefore if they
were not Canananites they they they
would then assume that their prayers
would not be answered because since they
were different people
so the Jewish people saw that they were
dressed like Amalikites but they were
speaking like the Canananites. They said
you know what we're not going to say
anything.
If God will give us these people in our
hand, what happened was the Amalachite
said, you know what? We'll try to
disguise oursel because if we disguise
ourselves, the Jewish people will not be
able to pray correctly. If they don't
break correctly, when they will be able
to win over them. So, what the Jewish
people do? Because they're stuck over
here. I mean, they look like
Canananites, but they look like
Amalachites, but they're speaking like
Lanites. Who are they? That's why we're
going to see in the following verse when
the Jewish people pray to God to be
saved from these people, they're going
to use a terminology, which is a general
ter terminology that we should just be
saved from our enemies.
What does it mean? The way of the way of
the spies. The way of the of the south
that the spies went as we mentioned
previously in the book of in the Torah
reading of
that they went through the south.
Another explanation of what it means the
way of the spies.
This is the based on the way that the
great tour guide was taking them and
traveling with them
that the ark would take them three days
in advance to be able to give the people
rest. So they were saying that they were
following the way that the ark was
traveling.
They only took of us use a singular term
and doesn't say that he took many
captives but it says that they took only
one captive
one made servant of the Jewish people
who they took
verse twoem
and the Jewish people made a promise to
God
that if you're going to give deliver
these people in our hand in my hand
and we will dedicate their spoils and
their cities and give them to God.
We're going to take their spoils and
give it to God.
The word which can mean to give and
dedicate and make it holy. Verse three
and God heard the voice of the Jewish
people and he gave theanites in their
hand
and they dedicated their cities to God
and their cities and they called that
place.
First of all the first thing they had to
do is kill them. The promise was that
was not on the people but only on the
spoils. So they were able to kill the
people. However, the cities that were in
the spoils, they dedicated to God and
gave it as spoils and gave it as a
donation to the holy temple.
Verse four,
they traveled from
through the way of the
to be able to go around uh to circle the
land of not to enter it.
And the people became disheartened
because of the setbacks of their
journey. Let's see.
because Aaron died and now they had to
wage a war against the cananates against
the
And it seemed like they were going
backwards. Which way? Backwards
towards the sea of
this was the way that was decreed upon
them when the spies went did something
wrong that they were held in the desert
for 38 years and they had to travel for
the rest of the time.
that God told them travel towards
but in this case we came the end of 40
years
they went backwards again seven travels
as it says that means they came to and
over there the people they reached them
what happened was they were going
backwards as it says
that the Jewish people traveled from
Aaron died
did he
He died in. So why does the Torah when
it talks about in the book of
Deuteronomy that he died in
they went there and they came back
they mourned him and they eulogized him
as if he had just happened now.
Now if you make the calculation you'll
see
so if you look that they went back to
coming back to seven different travels.
number one.
So they went, they retreated and now
they had to come back.
This was the was circling the land of
Edom
because the people of Edom did not allow
them to go through. So therefore they
had to go a whole circular way through
the Moabitete land
and the people became
uh disheartened because of this meaning
Rashi explained because they were on the
way as we find because of the traveling
that it started becoming difficult for
them. He said,
"We're right near the land of Israel.
We're going backwards again to be able
to circle the land of Edom.
This is what happened to our
forefathers."
And for 38 years, they were circling.
Therefore, they were so upset by the
traveling of the way. Meaning they lost
any uh any enthusiasm of going towards
the land of Israel.
One cannot explain to say that when it
means that they lost enthusiasm on the
travel
that it became short. You can't explain
that it became the way became short
because anytime you see if it means
short will tell you what made it short
there let's say we find in
that god says I no longer can tolerate
it because of their sins
or in chaim that they became shortened
meaning that he couldn't tolerate
because of something what was happening
anything which is difficult For a person
it is it is the language to use when
somebody is losing enthusiasm in
something you can use the word like the
person's disheartened
explains
like for something which is very
difficult for him to do.
So therefore, he doesn't have the mind
and the bandwidth to be able to accept
that.
He doesn't have that ability to be able
to sit there and deal with that pain
that's going through it.
Something which is difficult, something
which is bothersome. You have the word a
lot
because it's difficult and it's great on
the individual from him to be able to
tolerate it. For example, we have the as
well.
There the fact that they've rebelled
against God. It became difficult. God is
complaining so to speak about the sins
of the Jewish people.
Also talks about his uh problems that
he's going through.
The gener general rule when it comes to
this interpretation
anytime when we talk about that the soul
is exasperated is disheartened
by something that it cannot tolerate
anymore it's talking about it talks
about that the mind it's not that
physically they can't do it but the mind
is no longer it's a mental disheartening
which causes the person and in this case
as well the very fact that they had to
circle the place of edom this became
very challenging for the Jewish people
because they felt that we're until now
we were going going going about to get
into the land of Israel and now we're
just circling back
verse five
the people spoke both against God and
about Moshe saying
why did you take us out of the land of
Egypt to die in the desert
there is no bread there is no water
and our and are uh and we are weary of
the light mana bread.
They compared the servant to the master.
Moshe and God that they both were
rebelling against them
blaming Moshe and God that they're both
equally guilty for taking us out of
Egypt.
The same way we explained before the
word doesn't mean from the word short
means that they were exasperated. that
already uh they're weary of it and
they're disgusted by this food that they
already had for 38 years. What's this
food?
What does it mean that this food which
is light bread? What is it telling us?
Because the mana was absorbed into the
person's body and there was no waste.
There was no need for them to go to the
bathroom for it. It was called the word
comes from the word light. They said
the Jewish people were concerned and
said, "Listen here. We're eating this
man for this amount of time. We don't
know what the side effects are going to
happen. For all we know, we're going to
explode because of it because there is
no individual, no human being that is
only able to ingest and not let out
anything. And over here, we're eating
this man and there's no waste that's
coming from it.
And therefore God would punish the
Jewish people by because of their
slander and sent against them as against
the people venomous snakes
and they bit the people
and many people of the Jewish people
died.
Why were they called
which means to burn? Because with their
venom they kill the person. The person
gets singed from their venom that was
between their teeth.
That means the moment they bit into them
that poison went in and disintegrated
the individual
and they bit the people
because the snake was the one that spoke
ill at the time of the creation. So too
and convinced seduced her to be able to
eat from the tree of knowledge will now
pay back for those people that spoke
against God. That's one interpretation.
Another explanation that we find
And the snake that all kinds of food
that means even if you bring all the
different kinds of food in front of the
snake it all tastes like earth to him.
Should pay and should punish those who
are not appreciative of what was given
to them.
They get the mana that way by eating the
mana it changes to any flavor that they
enjoy any flavor that we'd like. And
over here the snake who everything by
him tastes like one thing earth. He is
the one that's going to punish those
people that are complaining for lack of
appreciation for what they have.
Verse seven the people came to say
we spoke about you and God
please pray to God for
remove from us the snake
prayed on behalf of the Jewish people.
Here
we say even though they were speaking
against Moshe but they came along and
asked Moshe for forgiveness and
therefore Moshe listened to them and
prayed on their behalf. And from here we
learned that when a person asks for
forgiveness you should not be refusing.
You should not be stubborn and not uh
and not forgive and you should forgive
the individual. Verse eight, God said to
Moshe,
you should make for yourself an image of
a venomous snake
and you're gonna put it on a pole. And
therefore, any person that gets bitten
by the snake will look up and see it and
will be able to live.
What does an over here mean? On a pole,
we find calls it a pole that was on the
top of the mountain.
pick up a pole. Something which is tall.
The word n comes also from a mast. And
because the mast is tall on the boat
that everybody can see it from a
distance.
Anything that you put up tall and that
somebody can see from a distance that
they can look up and notice it would be
called an ace. Anything that was bitten
meaning
the same thing was also that the snakes
would bite anything even if was a even
that let's say even if he wasn't only
bitten by a snake but if he was bitten
by a dog or a donkey and because of that
his body would be begin to deteriorating
he would look up at the snake and he
would be surv and he would help
the reason why he uses the terminology
of a snake is Because the venomous
poison of a snake is more dangerous and
causes a person to die even quicker.
Therefore, it says that any person that
was bitten, no matter what you were
bitten with and you see it, you will
automatically be healed.
Just by seeing it, you were saved from
the poison.
However, when a person was bit by the
snake, as we see, it says, and he will
look more not just looking, but more of
a stern look, a more of a um focused
look,
as it says later on that when a person
would look at the snake, when a person
was bitten by the snake, he would then
have a deep look at this pole, at this
uh copper snake that was there on the
pole
because just by seeing it from a glance,
from a distance, I wouldn't and help
you. You would have to intentionally
look at this copper snake and only then
were you healed from the poisonous
venomous snake.
The rabbis explained in the tractor of
Russash 298
is somebody thinking that the snake
itself this copper snake is what's
deciding if a person should live or die.
As we mentioned, the snake was put on a
pole look on high. It reminded them
where everything comes from. when they
would look up on high and they would
remember about God in heaven then
they would then devote their hearts to
the God in heaven they would be healed
from that poisonous snake but if they
would not concentrate and that's why he
needed that concentration
they would disintegrate
verse 9
and Moshe made the copper snake
and he put it on a pole
And if a person was bitten by a snake,
he beat on he would then look towards
and have an intentional look how was
just mentioned in Rash and he would
survive and he would live.
Moshe wasn't told to make it out of
copper. Just God told him to make a
image of a venomous snake. God said
God calls it
and I will make it out of copper which
is the same similar terminology
that means the two terminologies
even though they're two different words
but be two different meanings but
because the words are similar and
therefore Moshe believed that this would
be able to help the Jewish people and
understood it to make it into this
copper snake. This concludes oh we
continue sorry because we are now in a
double Torah reading a combined Torah
reading of we now continue with verse 10
as we now learned about the events with
the Kananites. The Jewish people now
continue with the other people along the
way as they travel along the southern
border of Moab and the different nations
that they encounter along the way.
And the Jewish people traveled and they
now rested in a place called
verse 11
and they journeyed from
and they then settled in a place called
which was in the desert
which is by the um by the we are on the
east of the east of Moab is from the
east side of Moab.
I don't know why it was called
the word means like a destruction a
place which was no longer there. So
Rashi says why was it called I don't
know but that's what the word means as
well as Rashi tries to say why was
called a place of destruction what was
destroyed thereata
it's something as if like when you clean
the floor they say matata is like a
broom as if you're cleaning the floor
and all the earth is gathered into one
place and then you have to sweep it up
the
and over here the is the letter is you
find also the shovels that were used um
and we talk about the copper shovels
that were made for the altar outside.
They were also called yin and they were
things that you would collect.
So we find in Isaiah where he talks
about the evil people who trust in their
foolish things that they have the that
they will be piled on into the pile of
garbage of what they are up about. Why
was it called?
This is a way how people would be able
to pass through the mountain of O on
their way to the land of Cananan.
This was a place which would be able to
pass you through from the land of
Moabites to the land of the Amorites
which was right at the border of
Cananan.
This is on the east of the of the border
of the land of Moab.
Verse 13.
From there they traveled
and they they encamped on the side of on
the north side of Arnon
which is in the desert
which extended towards the border from
the Amoriteski
that although Arnon was actually the
Moabitete border but it was beny
but it actually passed between the
Moabitete border and the Emirites and
that's the way as we mentioned
previously for one to make their way
through. Let's see. Rashi explains this
over here. We're telling about the whole
area of what it was. And this area, the
border of the Amorites, which was it's
telling us the end of the border of
where they were.
So to the boundary of the where the
Moabites were.
is telling us the edge that they were
going on this side of their borders
between the Moabites and between the
Amorites.
They circled the land of Moab called
going southeast
until they came to the other side of
which was already in the Amorite land.
But this was already on the north side
of Mo because they started going from
the south going southeast and now they
came to the north all the way around
which is comes out from the border of
the Amorites. What does it mean?
There was one area of land that was
sticking out from the Amorite land
towards south but it belonged to the
Amorites
but that little strip of land would
enter into the Moabitete territory as
well. So they would it would diminish a
little bit of that territory and it went
through like a pass through into the
area of the Moabitete land. However, as
the Torah continues,
it was which is the boundary of Moab.
The Torah is telling us here that they
were on the outskirts of the boundary of
Mo, but they were not in Moab itself.
And therefore, they were in that little
area on the north of Arnon, which
belonged to the Emirites.
Though that Arnon is on the boundary of
Moab,
the Moabites did not allow them to pass
through. So therefore, they had to go on
that pass through.
Even though the Torah doesn't say
clearly that they asked the Moabites to
go through
was the one that asked permission
that he sent messengers to the king of
Mo and did not allow them to go through
Moshe alludes to it when he talks about
in the book of Deuteronomy and reviews
about the encounters that the Jewish
people did and he says like the
did not allow us to go through their
land and like the Moabites did not allow
them to go through their land. We don't
see it clearly in the Torah. However, we
see it later on by when he says that
also asked them permission and they did
not allow. So too we find over here that
they did not allow as well
the same way by the people of that they
did not allow them to pass through the
land. So therefore they traveled around
them. So two by the Moabites that didn't
allow them to go through so therefore
they traveled around them. verse for
verse uh 14
as therefore it should be said
concerning this encampment whenever we
talk about recount the words of God and
to talk about the wars of God
that what he gave to the Jewish people
the sea of reeds and the valleys of
Arnon.
We talk about the miracles that happened
in Aron as well. So let's see rashi what
this means
al
about this encampment about the miracles
that happened here. what we're talking
about here seem
when we talk about the great miracles
that the Jewish people had and the
miracles that happened to our
forefathers they will say
they will talk about what is
and that he gave as it says
what he gave as means Y what he gave
them bes the great miracles that
happened to the Jewish people in the sea
of reeds with the crossing of the sea.
So when we talk about the miracles and
events that happened with the Jewish
people at this encampment we will also
when we talk about the great miracles
that happened to them there
just like we talk about the great
miracles that happened with the Jewish
people on the sea of reeds which is when
they cross the rims. [snorts]
So too they're going to talk about the
great miracles that happened by the
canals by the rivers of Aron
which also over here great miracles
happened.
What are the great miracles that
happened at Aron? We're about to say in
the next verse
and the spillage
of the valleys towards the dwelling of
and leaned towards the border of Moab,
the capital district of Moab. What
specifically happened here? So Rashi
explains as follows
the word which means the poor
this is alluding to events and it's
saying it in short about different
miracles that happened to the Jewish
people. What happened was
the blood of the Amorites that were
hiding in the mountains were all spilled
were killed and because of that the
Jewish people were saved
because were very tall mountains and the
valley was very deep and short
and the mountains were very close to one
another. So it's very easy for
they're so close that a person can stand
on one mountain, a person on another
mountain and still communicate with one
another.
And this passageway that we were talking
about coming from the south walks goes
through that valley
as soon as the Jewish people come into
the valley l to pass through because
that was the only pass through to get
through around the Moabitete land
namotus. We're going to come out of the
caves that's in the mountain that's on
top of them. So, they're going to go in
the valley. The only way for them to go
through is this little passage through.
We're going to stand on top of the
mountains
and we'll kill them with arrows
and with and with um and with different
weight and u
and different stones to be able to that
are thrown, you know, with the with the
arrow as well.
And then they're going to
And these mountains that were there,
they were like these two big points that
were coming out from like two corner,
two horns that were on both sides or two
uh protruding uh items that were coming
out on both sides and the Jewish people
were going to go walk in between.
those Jewish people that are going to
walk inside. They're going to be like a
maid servant that goes out to greet her
master
and they were going to go to the to the
point of the mountain of Moabites.
So what happened was that God made that
those two mountains should be able to
come together crashed into one another
and therefore all the people that were
hiding inside were now all killed.
The fact that they tried killing the
Jewish people that they were passing to,
they themselves got killed.
This is what it means in the verse that
it leaned towards the place of and it
leaned towards the property of Moab that
the two mountains removed itself from
its place and they came to bang into one
another and because of that because they
connected with another everything that
was in the mountain all the people that
were there were automatically killed and
the Jewish people were saved. Verse 16.
From there the flow of blood of limbs
ran into the well. He that was the well.
God said to Moshe, "Gather the people
and I will give them water."
Verse 16.
From there the flow went until the well.
The God said, "How my children are even
going to know about these wonderful
miracles that these two mountains
clobbered with one another and killed
all the Amorites that were waiting to
kill them."
The example is if you give food to a
child, you got to let the mother know.
Therefore,
after the Jewish people passed and the
mountains came back to their original
place
and the well was going into the into the
valley,
and from there it's washed away.
and you were able to see the blood of
all the people that were killed and so
they have arms and their limbs
and it brought them around the camp of
where the Jewish people were
as soon as the Jewish people saw this
they gave a saying to Hashem and
therefore it's called the song of the
well as they saw the well had now all
the enemies of the Jewish people came
floating down the well realizing the
great miracle that happened to them that
they were saved unbeknownst to them
and here in verse 17 begins the song
Oash
Then the Jewish people sang the song,
ascend a well and sing to it.
Come up from the valley.
Show us what you have. How do they know?
How do we know that the well showed them
what was there? As it says
with from there the well came out was
from there dwell
that the well were ready for 40 years
came down to the valley and then says to
publicize the miracles. Therefore it
gives another reason why
then did the Jewish people sing the new
song
was sang at the 40 years. One second. If
they're singing a song for the well, the
Jewish people have already a well for 40
years. Why didn't you wake up earlier to
saying to sing and give thanks for this
well that you have?
Why all of a sudden now you're giving
thanks to God for a well that you had
for 40 years?
And this is because this is another
miracle that happened because of the
well that they were able to see the
events that killed the Amberites. It was
floating through the well which brought
them to sing and give thanks for the
well that they already had. [snorts]
Verse 18.
This is a well that was dug by princess
meaning referring to Mosha
carved out by the nobles of the people
with their staffs and from the desert as
a gift
as a gift.
Rashi explains as follows.
This is the well that was dug by great
ministers which is
how did they do it with their staffs.
And then he continues
it was given to them in a place of dry
land. It was given to them this well
that they should be able to survive.
Verse 19
and from the gift after it was given to
us as a gift. It went down into the
valleys and from the valleys it was then
ascended to the greatest heights. bum
went to heights
like the tarum explains it went down
with them into the valley and then went
up to great heights. Verse 20
and from the heights in the to the
valley in the fields of Moabis
to the top of the peak
was able to be seen over the entire
wasteland.
meaning that they were able to see it
from quite a distance
because in the in the fields of Moab
that's where um Moshe died and therefore
no longer was able to be seen another
another explanation to these verses
was done by the it was dug by the nobles
of the people meaning
is called meaning to say every time the
Jewish people encamped the leader of the
tribe would make a hole with a staff
like a line with a staff from the well
and they would have a running well they
would have a stream of water going all
the way until their camp
in front of each camp
as we find later on it says within
carved according to Moshe is
Why is the Mosha's name mentioned in
this song? Like we find in the book of
Exodus. He says that he sang with it as
well.
Because Mosha was punished because of
this. Well,
because Mosha's name is not mentioned.
You'll also see God's name is not
mentioned.
It's like an example when they invite
somebody is invited to a meal.
If my friend comes,
my friend's not invited. I'm not going
either. If Mosha's name is not
mentioned, God's name is not mentioned
as well.
The type of the mount, the top of the
mountain. What does the word pisk mean?
Very high. Like we find in the book of
something that's very, very high. You're
able to see it from a distance.
The words
that very high mountain was able to be
seen.
That means you're able to see it
throughout the whole desert. And why was
it called Yeshima? Because God is called
Yeshua. But as well the desert is called
from the word. It's desolate. There's
nothing there.
Another explanation to these words are
that's going on the well. that the well
that the well was that it was that the
well after the passing of Moshe the well
was then placed and was put into the sea
of Taria which today is known as the
kiner
and it's there floating at the caner and
when you see it in the caner it looks
like a circle which is uh just floating
here and like the opening of a well
that's where said that it looks like a
round rock in the middle of the caner
and that's where the well of Miriam is
that's called the well of as we know it
as but known as the the caner today and
that's where that's why he says it'll be
floating it'll be seen from a distance
it's in the caner that everybody can see
from a distance this well eventually
where it went to
this concludes the third Torah reading
paras Kukas abol combined.
