Chris Fields donates hundreds of toys and games each chanukah to Chai Lifeline

we're here today with chris fields um we just arrived at high lifeline headquarters in lakewood um tell us a little bit what you did and uh you know what how you got involved with high lifeline back in uh when i say april may of 2004 uh we were at children's hospital philadelphia i have twin daughters that had to have a bone marrow transplant they had a really life-threatening illness called hlh and my wife got in contact with the ladies that come and bring food and different things and we felt that by them helping out is really yeah well it helped my wife tremendously because she was you know mother having two kids with a real bad disease that's the greatest thing in the world nobody wants that but he would know that one daughter died in august august 2nd of 2004 they continued to help us they helped with the the funeral expenses and they they buried my other daughter in florida a small jewish uh cemetery which is a real nice little place and uh my daughter uh has done several different things like she was at the camp center this summer and that was awesome she keeps can't stop talking about it and you got to know shortly free and several other people within the organization and whenever they need something we try to help them out special gifts like recently uh well like we've been doing this maybe i think this is our third year now doing a toy drive and this time we got real lucky because my wife is really good with trying to put people together and fundraisers and things and i'm basically just the shipper and receiver and delivery the hanukkah area my wife wishes we could win like 200 billion dollars in the powerball so we could just go open a business and do nothing but do toys for you guys wow that'd be great because i played the lottery twice a week volleyball mega millions you know you have to because one of these days we're going to win it and we're going to have more toys than you can imagine because my goal is to have it buy my own tractor trailer i had one years ago i'm going to buy a new one have a custom built and it's gonna be strictly for the honeycomb toy drive for high lifetime and whether because we may be moving the ford in the near future so not only would i help the miami office but i'll still come to jersey in new york city and help you guys there but it's just it just can't get enough i mean it just wires you for sound when you can see see how you can help kids because a lot of marketing are making that that's it's a real bad reality knowing that you're not going to make it through a terrible disease but the high lifeline organization has been so wonderful and the abilities that they have to uh make children's lives so much better and even their families too because it's a rough time and it's just wonderful i can't say enough about it yeah so where this toy drive was uh where do you pick up these toys and who donates them and uh how do you how do you let people know about this stuff well this time we got lucky we work with a uh i live in a poke and i was in pennsylvania and there's a store called five below it's basically a dollar store but it's better quality it's not garbage like some of these other places and we got to deal with them and my wife did all the uh worked out all kinks with the management and corporate and they allowed us to do a fun drive and they donated 10 to every purchase which there's going to be a check being uh it should it's on its way any any day now to this office for close to four hundred dollars that the store itself is donating and we were there from 9 30 a.m to 6 30 p.m and we sold almost 5 000 worth of toys for the store which allowed us to get this 10 plus in addition to that people still donated toys and the store even donated toys which is just bizarre it's like we we made out like six ways it's just awesome it's like that's great how many yeah i see i saw your truck downstairs you have uh quite a few boxes over there how many toys did you read we got close to 30 uh i'd say 18 about 32 feet by three feet boxes wow that's hundreds of times jam with toys yeah from games for all these groups uh uh we have a very uh very close friend called bj toys in pennsylvania that makes stuffed animals and one of the few left in this country still makes them here and they donated about 150 stuffed animals of all different color sizes and everything like that plus we have a friend of my wife's daughter was doing a project for ball mitzvah and she she worked with three two synagogues in the jewish community center in the allentown area and we're not finished collecting we might even get together for this friday for black friday do the store again because they're going to open at 1 am so i might have to make two or three more trips down here but it's awesome uh named as mcdonald ruth fields how old was she she was 15 months old wow and uh some high life remember he really helped you uh through this uh yes all because of that and i mean it's like a lot of people say oh you know once in a while is okay now of course to our lives that's all we're gonna do he said i don't even wanna work for anybody anymore all i'm going to do is just raise money and i'm working with a couple other organizations for next year to do a major fundraiser it's going to involve harley-davidson corporation yamaha suzuki all the motorcycle manufacturers and we're going to do it we'll see all the high lifelong kids driving around soon i guess yeah but uh and a couple local trucking companies are in the work show then donating say a penny a mile for all miles of truck drives so if you have a fleet of 100 trucks you can calculate a lot of money quick wow or compile money really fast it's unbelievable it's amazing as people like you you know giving back you know the amount they do for the community is uh you know to see something in return it's really is really special oh it's great it's the best thing that ever came along it's uh
