As we know today is the one year of he passed away but you know I saw say he say story about two people one people was and he was work make me s after 8 months he came to dream one rabbi is and told him rabbi please learn from me because I didn't I didn't finally I didn't get to my place I still waiting to get to my place please help me do for me do for me to do for me this one story another story he say by himself he saw somebody also few months less than eight months he came to dream rabbi I came to my place so he as surprise because you know he see that the first person was more look like than the second one so what the answer is the answer is everybody have his own way in this world is the preparation for that world and everybody need to prepare as he need to prepare we don't compare one to the other. So what obligation of ask the friend and the family and the relatives to help him because in the next world you can't do new thing only what you do here you can do you can't raise there so how can he get up and up if the family the friend do as we do here prayers this is the best thing to if you love somebody this is the way to help him because that is the most help you could do to the guy that passed away to help him to to get old as say it doesn't matter how many years I mean 70 years 80 years doesn't matter any year you can get upgrade in that world because unlimited the same in this world you know people have people want food they like food they want to eat food they're hungry they see they go they they have desire to food and in that inab is desire not for food desire for more close to Him to be more closer more closer and want to go up. So our obligation now as a friend as a family to help him to do that because in this world we can do it easily learn everything we do is help him for his as we know we now went back to his father to his family and he said messages to Russian says midrash the mid says the following somebody he hold the the nose the here here of the dock and he invited and fight is not belong to him. Well, what do you mean with that? As of Aman say powerful mash some some the one of the gangster of the of the the place was sleeping in the way and somebody passed day and damage him. Somebody saw that he wake him up. He w the gunster be careful. Somebody want to to to do something to you. That gunster wake up and start to hit him. He said why he hit me? I I help you. He say no this is me. If you didn't wake me up I do do nothing but you wake me up I do what I want. Same thing if Asab didn't send message to so he won't come to him because he send message he wake him up to come to him. This is the this is the mid but it's very very it's very strange why because as we know when he came to Jacob in the end of the day he didn't love him these two midrashim some rabbis say that he want to to eat his neck he beat him and it was miracle and the neck become like marble and he couldn't bite him this the midra says what do he send he send president he send cutters he send everything didn't help so we see from that that nothing will help with this so this tell us we can't judge but in his level in his level he need to believe in Hashem that not to do nothing with to help to do so somebody in trouble he didn't know he didn't know to wake it up wait to the where is it coming when it coming then Hashem will help you. So this is the lesson we need to learn but to did that Hashem control the world and even in do everything and according one rabbi it didn't help still want to kill him still want to hit him to damage him because Hashem had miracle he didn't do it so if he sent that that present to this the way the the story will end the same thing without that that this one this will listen for our life. We need to know in our life that we need to spread the you know Abraham passed away so young 60 years old it was English birthday and he was 60 mean 60 years we don't know why we don't know how because we missing definitely But this is the way of everybody he give his own mission in the world own person in the world. And everybody need to know that every day is counting. Don't think I be old I do better I become old. When I was young I think when I be old I be but it doesn't go like that. The days passing no no nobody have nobody have the the said there is a rabbi or some lady came to him told him rabbi she slept that next week she going to die. What you going to do? He said, "Wow, why you have at least promised that you leave another week? I haven't got a promise like that. Nobody promised you to leave in one week. You at least you have one week to stay." So this is raai. This is the way we don't know what going to be tomorrow. We don't know what to do. This is big big message for us to know how to look at the life to every minute to spend in good things. every second to spend in good things to look what we can do better what we can spread ourel when we can make better to do it because this is the life you can't know when it end never know I promise to to stay alive long time but we hope that be a long life we hope that we be a long time to to to but we need to spend any minute because the bar is unlimited and everything you do in this world is countable. So any mitzvah you do anything any minute you do another mitzvah another learn everything don't don't there is a in in Europe you know in the winter in the summer so in the summer the winter the the Shabbat ending very late so Arab Shabbat you can get early okay but Shabbat you need no way you need to wait to the dark so something was 10 11:00 in the night. So usually what people do they make abdah go to sleep what they do late. So when is Shiva they make learning after five minutes what they promise that they late it's late they want to sleep they're tired they make five minutes learning why to show that even five minutes is something even five minutes is important so they make five minutes learning go home god go to sleep but learning five minutes why to show that five minutes you rabbi big rabbis benis it was huge rabbi. He learning he finished the all the shas I think one year. So it makes you one year he make very special event special event. So they ask him what happened today you finish sh every year said no this five this sh I finish in five minutes excuse me I can finish sh in five minutes so much pages we we for me you take seven and a half years to finish it how you finish five minutes no finish five minutes I take I have cycle of learning but I makes cycle learning when I have five minutes to learn extra five minutes I waiting for the bus I went through that place I have a book and pocket and that minute I waiting for somebody I relearn it sometime it's 5 minutes 7 7 minute 10 minutes and I gather till I finish all the shots in that five minutes to show us and any minute is counting any minute you could do and you may spread yourself even in [clears throat] five minutes don't miss it especially you see he he didn't [clears throat] he pass he didn't think that he want to finish And he didn't have a chance he there. But this very very hard lesson that for us to know how to spend the hours, spend the time, spend the life. Don't burn the life. Don't burn the time. Use it for everything for good thing. You can learn [snorts] for classes today. You can listen in the phone any classes. But don't spend the time for nothing because you know it's short. You know you never know how long Hashem will give you how much years Hashem going to give you for long years for for for working to Hashem to finish to complete a mission in the world because everybody come in the world in a mission and I mean how do you know what what by mission it's it's [snorts] not hard in easy because everybody have a talent for something else. Somebody had a talent to to to learn. Somebody have talent to make zaka. Everybody have a talent special talent for himself. So because of that everybody need to use a talent that Hashem gave him to use for good thing to spend to improve improve [clears throat] himself. Especially tonight we the memory of Abraham as they say before that he is I tell you one thing I was surprised I didn't know him before he come to him he was you people you people you know him I didn't know him but something was bothering me the first day he came here he came with all the power start to come to the nets come to come classes it was it was very interesting he was didn't came in Sunday you to 25 30 years I don't know and for that then he left he came to the net every morning you get up doesn't matter summer winter winter in summer winter is easy but summer is early coming he learn to learn you have to this show that the the quality of the person that the quality of person person quality he come to because you can damage It's no problem. [snorts] But you come into the nets meaning that you love Hashem. You want to take your It doesn't matter. You want to sleep early, want to late, it's not easy. It's not easy to come to. It's not easy. But to do it once, okay, once a while, okay, but every day, every day and years and years. This, of course, this coming to him for the next world. The the Nazi going the the the learning Torah that he learn every morning. It's very important, very important. This we need to judge from him to learn from him because you know the midrash says that when somebody passed away Hashem ask the angels what people thinking about him what people talk about him this mid the question coming Hashem doesn't know what what that guy we need to ask people what people talk think about him everybody know him people know him why need to say what you can think about You know what the answer is? Of course, Hashem knows. But Hashem know want to know what that person left the world. What people learn from him? What thing the people what document and learn for him? What he left the world that people can follow him. So you ask me he come and then it's wow. Okay. Maybe I do something. He learn every day. Oh, I do something. He do he smile to everybody. Nice nice. Everybody have to say you know to say the right way in the right place that people will be happy. We learn from this in the world. This is what Hashem ask what the what the what the effect he make in the world. What he give for the world and this is for him and lot of things for us. lot of things as we said before the the the smiling to everybody to to meet people happy to learn Torah to come to the net to ask question even this is we learn from him see this what this is what people talk about it and now is almost one year it's so quick past it's like I remember I was sitting here in the sh when came to me it was meaning he bought aliyah for him and we we we before we get aliyah so he came to me and he said wow I was in shock it was middle of Torah in Shabbat morning so bad news and you know to feel that to feel that it's not easy but as you say if we love him really you need to start to try to I think a lot of people sitting here do much for him this year from learning and and make for him every every month and his thing don't forget him but continue that is go up to his place and we hope and the family will be conferred as we know he have a daughter that they married I hope he for that in this year. She get and continue the family of the memory of everybody. Confirm everybody sick people. [clears throat] film. Amen. Truth is, I didn't know him personally. I heard a lot of good things about him. The rabbi just spoke about his love for learning Torah, how he had. So, I want to maybe touch upon a few things that will be and hopefully also for the benefit of as well. We like to do a lot for of other people. So let's ourselves to give a little bit uplifting. You know every time I go to is you always feel the you feel very uplifted. I was born in Israel but as many times as I go always it's always you feel like wow I see the difference. YOU GO TO IT'S EVEN A GREATER FEELING. And I like to go to the Muslim quarter by the shook over there. There is a a little alleyway that leads to steps right next to Harab. It's the closest going to according to what behold you can go to. It's before entering the actual complex. So when I stand there, I just stand and I look and I try to imagine. You see the golden dome and you imagine to yourself this is where the beta mdash was the first and second the third. THIS IS WHERE took place. This is where we had the whole story of creation. The creation OF THE WORLD. IT'S ALL THERE. IT'S ALL IN THAT LITTLE area of land. The small PLOT OF LAND THAT THE WHOLE WORLD'S TALKING ABOUT. So we read in the another famous story that took place there is a dream of had the dream of the ladder. He wakes up. He says, "Wow, I didn't realize it's such a holy place." And then makes a famous promise. And he's asking for some basic things. What does he ask? Look what he says. He said, "If you give me protection, if you give me protection on the way, which the path I choose, and if you give me food to eat and clothes to wear, protect me in my path. Protect me, Hashem. Give me protection. What protection is he asking for? When you pray for protection, WHAT DO YOU SAY? Protect my wife, my family, from robbers, from criminals, from the right, that's what we asking for. PROTECT US FROM ALL THESE BAD THINGS. What protection was asking for? Look what the midrash tells us. says a midrash. If Hashem will be with me and protect me. Protect me from what? Says a mid. He says, "Hashem, please protect me. Protect me from doing idol worship. PROTECT ME. PROTECT ME FROM DOING ADULTERY, PROMISCUITY. PROTECT ME. PROTECT ME FROM KILLING SOMEONE. and protect me from speaking. He's not saying PROTECT ME FROM OTHERS SAYING OTHERS TRYING TO KILL ME, OTHERS TRYING TO COME. NO, NO, NO. PROTECT ME FROM DOING IT TO OTHER PEOPLE. And you read this mid like this doesn't make any sense. Was raised in the house of how many years was he there for? 15 years he WAS BY FOR OVER 60 YEARS. How many years? 14 years. HE WAS AROUND HIS WHOLE LIFE. And now he's saying, "Hashem, please protect me from doing and and promiscuity with women." Is asking this doesn't make any sense. If you would zoom into his brain and see what Yakov is thinking, we would think he's asking Hashem, protect me from having uh the wrong protect me from while I'm learning. That's not what he's saying. And the question is, what's going on over here? Why is asking for such a thing? Says the following. He says, "You see his whole life was with Abraham." At that point, it was the first time he's about to go into the business world. The first time he's going out to he's about to have transactions with money. >> And what IS teaching us here? When you go out to the business world, you could go down in a minute. You could have BEEN THE BEST YESHIVA IN THE WORLD. You could have the best rabbi in the world. YOU CAN HAVE THE BEST. YOUR GRANDFATHER THE BIGGEST SADIK. But now that you're going out to the workplace, now that you're going out to the real world, quote unquote, you could fall so much not just corruption, promiscuity, every in the book. So if was scared about this, how much more so we have to be scared about it? How much more so when we have a world where you have everything on your phone, where you have everything in front of you, there's no bush anymore today. The the lack of the lack of the lack of anything. If was concerned he might fall, how much more so we have to be concerned we might fall and our kids might fall. So the question is how do we overcome this? How do we not fall for a thievery from cheating in business from doing the wrong things? What's this formula for success? The formula is very simple. Look at response. Look what he says. He says, what did he ask for? Did he say, you know, I've always wanted this huge mansion. Please make sure I have a swimming pool in my basement. I should have a nice uh car in my driveway in the front, another car in the others. All he asked for was what? Simplicity. If you want to fight the you got to have small expectations. When you have small expectations, then there's no reason for me to be jealous of my next door neighbor. No reason for me to want to have what he has. Cuz all I want from Hashem is what? That's it. Give me food. Give me clothes. Give me the basics. So that's how you see this. He say if you look says I have everything. What does his brother say? I have a lot. A person that looks at I have everything. That's already the first punch of the you want to protect yourself from promiscuity from corruption from thievery from women from simple lifestyle. If Hashem blesses you with more enjoy, he gave you the but if you're living for the more that's when you're asking for trouble. This is what was teaching us. And that's why if you read the he says what he says give me. Isn't it obvious that food is to be eaten and clothes is to be worn? Just say give me and give me clothes. I know the is to eat and the clothes is to wear. Why he has to describe what he want to do with it? [clears throat] So say very simple is teaching us how to think and how to pray. He didn't ask Hashem for just food. [snorts] I want to be able to eat on my own. He didn't just ask for clothes. I want to wear the clothes on my own. I want to be healthy enough to get out of bed, to go to the bathroom, to go eat, to go to. I don't want to have to be dependent on anybody. You want to know the biggest? It's that simplicity. It's a basic things of life that we don't appreciate. That's what we have. We thinking I'm able to see. I'm able to walk. I move for I'm standing up. I have clothes. the basic things you appreciate the basic you're giving the biggest punch to the but if you're constantly saying what does he have what does she have what does he have more how does he have this then you know what happens then you really need protection from all the big because you get inside of you and you can't running after the pleasures this is the sort of life of how to live and unfortunately it happened to the religious community as well unfortunately we are running after so much we don't realize we become [snorts] almost slaves and we're doing and so if we learn thank you for the basics oh you gave me more oh I got more that should be the outlook and that's the outlook of how to succeed as you know you [clears throat] know there's a famous when it comes to it says created the world everything was created with a certain perfection. What do I mean by that? I ask you right now how far is the sun from planet earth? >> What was that? >> 2 million what? >> 2 million miles. miles. What's the distance? >> It's approximately 93 million miles away. Okay. 93 million miles away. Now, you should know if the sun was a little closer, what's going to happen to us? >> Right? >> You're going to burn. If the sun was a little further, what's going to happen to us? >> You'll freeze. every part of creation was perfectly situated. Now, if you look at the Torah, the Torah tells us when Hashem created the sun and the moon and the stars, it says it's good. Hashem created the trees and the plants and the flowers and the fruits and the vegetables. What does it say? >> That's good. He created the animals, dogs and cats and mice and cockroaches and elephants. When he created when he created me and you does it say doesn't say question is why not? >> How can it be that a dog is a dog is good but you're no good? What's what's what's the lesson of here? What does try and teach us? >> There's a famous look what he says. He says if you look at every aspect of the by, every aspect of the creation, if you look at it, you see this cup, this cup is a cup. The stander is a piece of wood, it is what it is. The chair is a chair. The sun is the sun. The moon is a moon. They are what they are. There's no >> Hashem said it's good. A dog does not have to honor his father and mother. A cat when he goes to the dumpster doesn't have to look for the ou symbol or the okay symbol, right? He eats whatever he wants. Hashem says it's good. The way it was created, it's perfect. It is what it is. But when it came to creating us, says, "You have to prove to me that you're good. You have a mission in this world. WE'RE NOT ANIMALS. WE'RE HUMAN BEINGS. We have an you have to prove to me you're good. How do we prove? I give you a book. I give you a treasure. I give you a good gift. Go ahead. Put your fullest effort. Nothing. No one's perfect. put your effort. You put your fullest effort after 120 years. Like the rabbi said before, no one's guaranteed 120. No one's guaranteed tomorrow. After that time comes to give you a report card. Hopefully, we get it with a good you don't want to get ni needs improvement. You don't want to get failure. We have to prove that we are we have we have you have to realize that we're not here to build a bigger house to have a bigger portfolio to have a nicer suit to have nicer shoes to have a nicer vacation with your friends. We're so fooled that we believe we have to always outdo somebody else. We have to come here. Yes. Enjoy your life. Enjoy the world gave us but have a mission. You have a mission. That's why when we have for example we say for a man what do we say? You ever wonder what does that mean? A good name is better than good oils. The day of death is better than the day you're born. Last time I checked someone dies we're very sad. Someone's born and we're very happy. So what's telling us over here? and a good name better than oils. They of death better than they of birth. The answer is very simple to a person that lives a life of is better than the best oils. They used to take oil and shmear it on the body of the dead to preserve his body. They want to make sure his body's going to be as if he's a so better off to live a life of to of your is going to get the reward that to put all the oils and all the spices to keep your body going and the day of death is better than the day of birth. You know why? When you're born, what are you going to become? What path are you taking? We don't know. So yes, we're we have a HUMAN BEING CAME TO THE WORLD. But in terms of what's going to be his endgame, we have no idea. So but when he dies AND HE DIES IN LIFE OF OH THAT'S BETTER THAN DAY OF BIRTH CUZ now we know where he is. Have to always ask ourselves where am I headed? We always for a person we learn for him. It's a very good thing. But do we ever do it and think you know what about myself? What happened to him here as a young man? Do I think about where am I headed? Am I ready to go stand before you have to always ask yourself what can I do? What can I do? How can I improve my mid? How can I improve my how can I improve my my my questions we have to ask on a daily basis. Now one of the biggest problems is we all have and knows how to tell us no we'll start next cycle we're going to start learning you know next I'll start controlling my anger you know next this I'll start doing this every time it gives us a time frame when to start new year January 1 people also make resolution doesn't work you start next new year you push it up push it up I want to share with you a beautiful banish he said something very Beautiful. There's a that says what does that mean? What does that mean? There's a time to do forem and you have to abolish the Torah. There's times you have to knock out a in order to protect the Torah. What's a famous thing that did when they took the he said I have to write down the why he was concerned that because of all the gal and all the suffering and all the trials and tribulation of Israel we're going to lose the oral Torah SO HE CANNOT WRITE IT down to abolish the will of the Torah I'M GOING TO WRITE IT FOR ME TO DO IT, BUT I'M GOING TO DO IT. And you see things like this throughout where they abolish a rule in order to protect the Torah. That's what it means. Look what writes. If you think in your mind, if you think in your heart, I have time [snorts] TO DO FOR HASHEM TO CHANGE. I HAVE TIME. I'LL START WHEN I get older. When I'm this, when this comes up, this is my birthday. I have time. You should know you're never going to do it. If you push things off, if you say, "I have time," you're not going to do it. It's just not going to happen. is beating you. Never push off doing good things. When you have the opportunity, don't say next time do it now. That means if you heard the rabbi speak right now about the importance of life and how you have to treasure life and life is not guaranteed. Forget about next week being guaranteed. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. If you think like this, it means you have to change now. Like it said in the told his students the day before you die. The student said we don't know when we're going to die. So what did he tell him? Every single day cuz you never know maybe tomorrow the day writes it says right the day is short. You have a lot of work to do, right? But we the workers are very lazy. But the reward is a lot. The owner is pushing us. What's he talking about? 47th Street. What's he talking about? They're telling you life is short. Have a lot of to do in this world. The workers, us, we're very lazy. If you only knew what the reward is in Hashem is expecting us. Why does it say the day is short? Just say life is short. DAY IS SHORT. SAY LIFE IS SHORT. >> LIFE IS SHORT. >> WHY ARE YOU SAYING day is short? Says look at they always say day is short. Day is short. Day is short. Why? Why day is short? says, you know why? Because I'm trying to put into your head. Don't say life is short. Because if life is short, you say no, I have another 10 years, another 20 years. When you say day is short is all I have is today. That's it. Don't think that you have life ahead of you. You have a day ahead of me. That's it. That's the only thing you have in front of you. And if you have this kind of mindset says, if you think the day is short because my life is only a day, then you'll see tremendous tremendous growth. I always tell people, imagine you have a brother, a child that's going to Israel, making aliyah. How is that last meal you're having with him? Oh, you're going to bring out, right? Why? Because he's leaving you says, you got to look at every day. This is this is it. That's why you got to show everyone love every day. If you have a father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, siblings, wife, husband is always respect, always you know why the day is short, you never know this is the last day. And that's why it says you want to be you want to be attached to look today. Look as if it's the last moment. This is the last time live your fullest. That mean that should be the best fah your should be the best your work should be the best work your time with your FAMILY SHOULD BE THE BEST time with your family if you live like this it's a different world and sometimes takes away like I heard about what a what a special he was taken at a very young age he takes away these people to wake all of us up to tell us right the day is short you got to produce you got to produce you got to produce you got to keep doing you got to Keep doing. Don't stop. So, the goal is tonight, we're going to have one more speaker, but the goal is tonight is to ask yourself, how am I different? Not put him aside yourself, what can I do that's better for my what can I do to become a better man, a better woman, become a better husband, better wife, better son, better daughter? What can I do? And if you know you're failing with certain things, if said, "Please protect me from protect me from women. Protect me from corruption." THEN YOU KNOW WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO PROTECT YOURSELF? What are you doing to protect your eyes? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO PROTECT YOUR MOUTH? What are you doing to protect your ears? What are you doing to protect your children from these things? The day is short. You got to get to work. Don't say, "Okay, we're inspired by the rabbi today. We'll start next week, but will make changes in the house." No, no, no. come home. You already say I'm starting and when are we going to do it? So let's take this message to heart. We're going to hopefully not just do it. We do it for and I encourage everyone everyone knows someone in the community that needs a you could always add that say you know what today I'm going to add from now on extra I'm going to go to extra I'm going to go extra give extra why there's [laughter] this person that person you could DO IT ADD WHATEVER YOU WANT but just do it don't push it off if you say it's never going to happen. You should know every time I go all the respect him. You should know that all know we don't realize we have a in Queens. He's very quiet. He sits in his corner. Gives a few. You know, he could have made left us a long time ago and been a real real but the rabbi is nephesh over here and you have to be you have to appreciate it. You know, there's no reason why he shouldn't have in this 60 70 guys every day for whatever it is giving his heart and soul. Take advantage of it. Not too many people have this in America. Is Rabbi Yak over here? >> Is he Is he here yet? >> Yeah. Okay. One minute. The is entering. We have another speaker, guest speaker. Uh again all the like we said before he should be. We would like to thank many people here. Uh even though Aval did not have boys himself, uh we had at least four or five people here in New York that we know that same kadesh a whole year for him. One of them is you lost a big big friend. So he's saying a whole year I'm not sure when you have to stop. [snorts] Oh used to say kadesh also learning with us amazing amazing hem gave good friends good family good friends and good family and good and many people that say the whole and another. So as the rabbi walking in just uh briefly he himself AA finished >> please after walking in let's briefly uh since he did not know the so we quick say today would have been his uh this week will would have been his 61 1 years birthday. He died on his birthday 60 years old and he finished himself. I met him about four I mean when I saw him four years ago in the subway he was so happy more than four five years ago. He's so happy. Danny Mati Mati I [clears throat] find the book he finally find the bookish since he did not know Rashi the letters of Rashi. So he was looking for with a regular and he find it and he took upon himself I'm not sure how many years but he finished all the as far as I know he finished all the and his plan was to do of all and we plan and Hashem has his own plan of and as we mentioned before a whole year even though he than his own boys. Yeah. Three girls. So we had here in New York at least five people that I know said a whole year kish on him and some of them are here in this hall. So we thank him. [clears throat] And I see walked in to the microphone. [snorts] [clears throat] [snorts] This is See, you'll see. [clears throat] Good afternoon everybody. to be here and it should only be for >> and then should have a continuous and all the that's being done hearing great things about him and his family should only have a bish Rabbi dearmed this week's par we learn a lot about Yakov Jacovu is the who is Yoshv in the tents of Torah and how ironic it is that Yakov is the one that his entire life. He's the one that's fighting his entire life. He's fighting. He wants to sit down and study and learn Torah and dom all he wants to do is sit and learn Torah. And before he's born, he's fighting. And his entire life is the one that's fighting. Out of everybody, he's the good boy. He's the one that doesn't cause problems. Sits down with a pen and paper and he's writing the notes in the class and he just wants to listen. And he's the one that he's always getting into trouble. He's in the stomach with and they're already rumbling. He's coming out and he has to hold on to's leg for dear life. 15 years old again he has to start dealing with decades later he has to get the he has to run for his life. He goes to Lavan 20 years of gam he's leaving Lavan's house and Lavan then is going running after him. He's going to is coming to fight. He goes back for a few jugs and then the mal is now going to come and he's fighting with and then is taken and has to deal with AND HIS WHOLE LIFE AND HIS ENTIRE LIFE HE'S FIGHTING. HE DOESN'T WANT TO FIGHT WITH ANYBODY. HE'S THE SIMPLEST person to deal with. He's not a trickster in any way. He's not going to cause problems. He's not coming to to to finagle anybody. He does not not coming to do any business that that's not right. HE JUST WANTS TO HAVE AN awesome life and serve. And we're finding something amazing that Yakov is the one that is always fighting and of his biggest fights that he has is with Lavan and 20 years and he's getting sketched and he marries before and then six years he's working and he sketches him 100 times on the salary 100 times that his father-in-law tried to get him on the salary and Yakov is being and he's taking care of those sheep and he's not trying to get him back in any way. And you just see how Yakov is dealing with all this. And our rabbis tell us that the two big battles that he had were with Lavan and Yakov. And the battle with Lavan is the battle which shows us the tests of Amuna. Lavan is the one that he thought everything is his. And he says to Yakov, "The children are mine, the boys are mine, the girls are mine, everything is mine." And you see the Auazar that Lavan had. You see the Andov is the one that is fighting against the Auazar. That's one of the biggest battles that Yakov had. And what's amazing is that Yakov walks out winning every single time. So yes, Yakov fought. However, Yakov won. And what Jacob is teaching all of us says that shalom is that sometimes in life a Jew also has his tests. And of the biggest tests, he writes of the biggest is the tests of amuna. How important it is that knows that he's here. And we're not only here, we are also in this world to fight and to also win. And what we have to focus on is the amuna. And as much as a person might be challenged with the amuna and there might be a test of amuna and that the amalik might try to come in and throw cificot and doubt in regards to imuni has to be extremely strong in his imun and always fight to know the imit and to pursue the imit and not to ever give in. That is of the greatest things that a person can do. We have to focus on the amun. One of the questions that they ask a person after 120 years is did you do business? And one of the ways that the rabbis explained the question is not did you do business with not did you go into the business world with that's however on a different level they explain that in the that means did you treat your like that is the business the same way a businessman is always thinking, did I do good? Did I get the best profit? Did I get the best uh buyer and sellers? Did I get the best the best tax rates? And he's constantly thinking about his business. AND HE'S GOING BACK AND FORTH ON the business. Did I do good in my business? Did I not do good? Is the rent good? Am I paying my workers too much? And he's always thinking about the business. And that's how a businessman IS DOING HIS BUSINESS. THAT'S HOW A YEHOUD HAS TO DO BUSINESS IN HIS DID YOU ALSO DO THAT with that amuna today? I woke up. I said, "Did I connect to Hashem? Was my good? Was my the way they're supposed to be?" And you start thinking at the END OF THE DAY, HOW WAS my Maybe yesterday was good. Maybe yesterday was a little better. Maybe today I didn't do so good. Maybe today I was a little upset. I shouldn't BE UPSET. AND WE GOT TO GROW IN THE AM. Because that's what we're here to work on. To work on that and to realize that maybe I'm not great at it yet. Maybe I'm not perfect. However, I should grow in my amuna AND I SHOULD SAY I'M GOING TO GET BETTER TOMORROW. My today maybe something happened. I was a little upset and God put it to me and they GOT ME FRUSTRATED. TOMORROW THAT WON'T BE LIKE THAT. I'M GOING TO GO OVER THERE. I'M GOING TO BE BETTER AND tomorrow I'm GOING TO MAKE SURE TO FIGHT AND THESE are important things. Yes, we're not born perfect. Maybe. However, we have to build ourself. Every day is a tremendous gift as we know and we have to make sure to work on our gifts and to say today I want to be better in my of the greatest things that we could work on is the is showing us that he also got tested in his life a lot of times and he passed every time and he won and us as his children have to continue in that way and we have to also fight and we have to also be kazak and we have to say maybe I'm not doing so great yet however I'm going to grow I want to be better I want to work on myself more. I want to be a better Yehudi because life is a gift and a person is supposed to be taking advantage of that life and to say I could be better. I want to be better. My could get better and my shi could get better and of course could get better and the could get better and the peace in the house could get better and the could get better and the time for could get better and as long a person is focused on that and working on that that is something that is unbelievable. One of the greatest ways that we can meet in our is through the amazing gift called Shabbat. One of the greatest ways is through Shabbat. Shabbat is the way that we commit in our Shabbat is a gem beyond. And Shabbat is what the shalom calls in a way the as it says that when he went in last week to find there was a there was a well in the is a field and he explains on the dash that went to the field and that's like haz and in haz There's people that could be and they could be growing and sadly there could be people that are not growing. It is like in a way a field a field you could have a field that people are planting and there's trees and there's a garden and then you could see a field that they neglected and there's thorns. Forget about it and there's what do they have? They don't have trees. There's some places you go wow what an orchard. This world is a sad. A person could grow and a person, God forbid, he could go down. A person could meet Kazak. A person could be great and he could work on himself and stay focused and have a rabbi and say, "I got to do better. What could I do?" And then a person could waste his life. This world like that. And he says, however, there's a beer in that field. The same way a field needs the Ber so that it could get the water, Hashem put a B also in this world so that a Yehudi could nourish and get what he needs so that he could be the best person. And what is that? And he says one of them is Shabbat. That is the in this world. The well that we could drink from and that we could grow from and imagine someone is in a desert and they're looking for water. They they didn't drink in three days. And imagine they get to the well. How do they feel? Shabbat. Shabbat. They go to the water. And imagine Shabbat. Shabbat is that well for us. Shabbat is the well that we're supposed to in a way have that feeling. Shabbat is here. What is Shabbat? Shabbat, our rabbis tell us, is the day which we get the day that gives the Shabbat. Shabbat is the And we say it in the he wrote it best. We seeing it on Shabbat every single week practically. People are looking for in their life. Run to Shabbat. They're looking for run to Shabbat. They want run to Shabbat. They want run to Shabbat. Shabbat is the of and a person could grow tremendously in his if you notice the meals of Shabbat. how powerful and unbelievable they are. The meals of Shabbat should be used as a way to instill in ourself and Hashem. It shouldn't be a time to talk about politics. Shouldn't be a time that we're talking about nonsense. It should be a time that we are infusing the family with. And one of my rabbis when I was a bak yeshiva, I saw what he did on Shabbat table and it was great. He went around the table and every child he went around the table and every child had to say something to do with that week's thoughts. This week I was going to school and I forgot my knapsack and I needed to have it and I and everyone had to have story and he had to say one place that you saw. You know what that does? That instills into the child. Wow. Unbelievable. Hashem is there. We have to remind ourself how important the is. And Shabbat is a time that a person could grow and Shabbat could actually change a person. And the great Rabbi Miller, Rabbi Var Shalom, he says, "Why do we have to respect an elderly gentleman, an elderly lady, a lady that's 70 years old? A man that's 70 years old? You [clears throat] have to stand up for them." Why? Because they're in Torah? No. Maybe they're not because they finished all the No, maybe they didn't. because they know the Torah. No, maybe they didn't also. So why do I have to stand up? Because a 70 year old gentleman passed by. Why have to stand up for him? I understand a rabbi. I stand up for the rabbi. However, men that 70, why should I stand up? Because hit he's fragile and he's old, so I should stand up. What are you talking about? Some of them, they're young and energetic more than 30 year olds. They're going and they're everything is great. So why do I have to stand up? It's out of uh Hazid he's old. No, he's not old. Some 70-y olds are young. So some people be very young. And Rabbi Miller says, you know why you have to pay you have to stand up in in a way for that 70 year old only because of one unbelievable reason because he went through more Shabbat in his life. He went through 53 years 57 years of Shabbat on his bitzvah till now. Every Shabbat changed him. And you have to give him you got to give him respect because of that Shabbat. Because of the Shabbat that they went through which reminds us that every Shabbat in a way changes us. That means that after Shabbat is over, I can't be the same person when Shabbat is over. I got to be someone I I have to be different. I can't go into the next week the same way. I can't go into the business the same way. I can't go in with my in my attitude the same way. I can't I I can't be that same person. Why not? Because if you went through Shabbat and you went through somewhere that you are able to change tremendously and unbelievably and that's only Shabbat. You have to hold on to that. Every Shabbat a person could grow a little bit. You have six days. Shabbat you grow a little more. Six days grow a little more. Can you imagine what a Shabbat is? and a Shabbat that a person knows what he's doing and that is unbelievable. A person has to know how powerful Shabbat is. We all need to grow in our we need to be like who fought the battles and he won and Yakov is teaching us the way. The imun is very important and we have to protect ourself and our and what's amazing is that you know when he went to Lavan's house he was lying down one night in the m of the beta mikdash and he had his dream with the ladder and before he went to sleep he put a few rocks around his head and the question is why did you put the rocks around your You putting rocks around your head. Why rocks around your head? Because in case any vicious animal is going to in case a vicious animal is going to go and attack Yakov, he's going to be able to fight. In case there's a lion, he's going to go and fight a lion. He's not going to kill him. Yakov, if you put rocks around your head, let's be honest, the lion could still get to the heart and he could get to the lungs and he could get to the rest of the body. And let's be honest, he could also get to the head. He goes right on top of those rocks and he'll get to the head also. So what is the rocks around the person's head is going to do for him? And the Bal Mad explained that Yakobu was in a way teaching us that there's body parts that maybe they could afford, they could handle a hit, right? As children, we used to play, you know, with the friends, we used to play, you know, dead army. I don't know if they do that over here. Dead army is, okay, you give your friend a dead arm and he gives you back the dead arm. Maybe you have no clue what I'm talking about. And to tell you the truth, coming to think about it, I really don't know either. Anyways, they give each other a dead arm, sick thing or whatever. Anyways, that no one ever no one ever um decided to play. Okay, you know, uh you can flick my eye and I'll flick your eye. Let's go flick. Let's go. Flick for a flick. Let's go. Flick my eye. Ah, no one does that because our eyes they are very sensitive. You know what's in a way the most sensitive part of the entire body? the brain. No one ever messes with the brain on a physical level. Everyone knows that if someone's going through a brain surgery, god forbid, the smallest move could be costly. In the same way, that's how it is on a spiritual level. That the brain the has to be protected at all times. The nish cannot take any flick. There's no flick to the brain, no flick to the imuna, nothing. We do not play with the has to be and it cannot be deterred in any way. We cannot afford to risk the [clears throat] we cannot have the jeopardized shalom at all. And if you notice the brain the same way the most powerful bone is protecting the brain that's how the has to be that we protect the im the we cannot allow any nonsense we cannot allow any anything infiltrate. Sometimes people like a little downtime just to relax. However we tell the students that even when you're relaxing you should do it in the right way. It doesn't mean now you have to put garbage in your brain for two hours and three hours. The imun is very important and is one of the greatest ways to make and to work on the and to make sure that we're going to strengthen the all the that comes is and we are the nation that to hold on to that great gift and we have to make sure that we're going to grow in our and we're going to grow in our connection with and we're not going to allow anything Shalom be taken away in our connection to Hashem. There's a man in the back in the where we live. His father Shalom was a very righteous person and in the 70s he had a business. Sadly, in 1977, there was a lot of riots because the electric company apparently wasn't able to produce enough electricity and in some areas people started looting and robbing stores and they were very upset and they just started going into stores and taking things out. The police couldn't even do anything because what are they going to do? A ton of people going and stealing. What are you going to do? So, they practically gave up. And this man still also got hit one day. What did they do? They tied a chain to the truck and they tied the other end to the gate and they drove and they pulled off the gate and they go open the doors and they go right into the store and they take everything. The guy comes back to his store and the guy has nothing. His whole business is gone. So he had to start up all over again. So he went to his father and he said, "Daddy, could you please give me $25,000 as a loan and I'll pay you back." Now today, as you know, $25,000 is a lot, let alone going back 50 years ago. That was a lot of money. His father gave him $25,000 as a loan. And he says, "Start your business again and go buy what you need to." When the man went to go buy some merchandise and he was hoping that he's going to get back on his feet and he's going to be able to pay back his father and he had a plan that he's going to pay him back by the end of December because the goim they have a holiday in the end of December. on that day last year he made $25,000 on one day. So he said great this year in the end of December he'll make $25,000 and he'll pay his father back. Then he looks at the calendar he notices that on the calendar that day >> was Shabbat. So he went of Mosha Feinstein and he asked him rabbi can you give me a to have a non-Jew open the store so that I can make the money back. He has to pay his father. What should he do? Mosha Feinstein told the man that he could give him a however in case he doesn't want a he'll give him a that he'll make says the rabbi 100 times more 100 times more and the man who was smart and he ran with the he ran with it he went with the he didn't care and he closed his door on Shabbat however there was a small problem there was a little problem there was a slight problem what was the problem. Nothing major, nothing too big. That day on Friday when he wanted to close the store, the non-Jews weren't leaving. All the customers are there and they weren't leaving. 1:00, yell, leave. They're not leaving. 2:00, 3:00, get out OF THE STORE. AND NO ONE'S LEAVING. So 3:30, he gets on the counter and he screamed, "FIRE, FIRE." AND THEN everybody left the store. He closed the the store and he went home and he was there for Shabbat on time and everything was great. Shabbat he opened his store from 5:45 till around 9:00. In those three hours around he made $29,000 just in those hours. He thought look at this he's closed on Shabbat and he already made $29,000. He did the flu and he paid his back and he was the lady that owned that building. She goes to him and she says, "Mr. Walter, um, I'd like to sell you the building. Would you want to buy the building? Buy the building? I I don't have money to buy the building. How do you want me to buy it?" And she wanted to really sell it. And he was the only tenant that was paying rent and no one else was renting from her. So, she tried to sell to him and she said, "You know what? That she'll make him an offer that he really can't say no to." and she said, "If you want, I will make you an offer that the building is yours for and around $20,000, $120,000, the building is yours. I don't have $120,000." She said, "Give me 20,000 this year and 20,000 every year, five years, and the building is yours." And even if you don't know anything in real estate, 120,000 today, you don't get a parking lot. You don't get a parking spot. You don't get a you get you don't get a driveway. what do you get for $120,000? And she said, "If you want it." And he went to his father again and he borrowed $20,000 and he paid the lady and he bought the building. He started fixing up the other areas that they could rent out the stores and eventually every piece of every store was going for five $6,000. Every single one of those. Eventually the entire building went up and was worth $3 million. He bought it for 120 and that's it. And it went up to 3 million. >> Told him if you keep Shabbat then you will have a h 100 times in the you made $25,000 in that one year. In one year you made 25,000. You don't think Hashem could give you more I can make 100 times more. How am I going to make 100 times more? That could do anything is the one that decides. and he closed his door and he didn't open on Shabbat and he made 2.5 million and even more. That's 100 times more. And that is amazing. Look at the power of Shabbat. If only a person knew how powerful Shabbat is and how great Shabbat is and what we could get from Shabbat and the amuna that we could feel at the end of a Shabbat. However, a person has to realize that that is the go-to. Shabbat is the day of the week and we cannot lose Shabbat. We have to watch over Shabbat and we have to respect Shabbat. And every Shabbat in a way has to be greater than last week. And especially the Shabbat is coming in early. It doesn't matter. Rabbi 411 candle lighting. How am I going to do it? How am I going to get ready for Shabbat on time? Hhabibi, you got six days. Figure it out. Get ready for Shabbat by 4:00. You can do it if you want. then he can be great in Shabbat. However, a person has to know that Shabbat is the of the and if person wants they run to Shabbat and they go to Shabbat and they do what they need to because Shabbat is the Mik of the There was a little girl during the Holocaust that made it out of Europe and she was in France. How did she make it out? She had some type, I guess, of working permit because she was going to work in some warehouse in France. So they let her be in France and it was illegal for her to be there and that's how she was able to stay out of the ghettos out of the concentration camps that were happening in Europe. Hashem is one day the owner of the warehouse he goes to the girls the Jewish girls that were working there and he says to them that until now they weren't working on Shabbat. However, now they have to start and they [snorts] have to begin they have to work on Shabbat. Everyone they have to go and work on Shabbat. you got to work, go work on Shabbat. And if they don't work on Shabbat, then he's not going to hire them anymore. And if they don't have the papers that they could be hired, then he's going to have to send them back to Europe, back to the concentration camps, and no one wants to be there. So obviously, he thought that they're going to start working also on Shabbat. So one little girl, her name was Tamar, she heard that, she packed up her bags, and she started walking out. And he says, "Where are you going?" She says, "I'm not working on Shabbat. you gonna go back to Europe? I don't care. I'm not working on Shabbat. What? You gonna go back to Europe? And the girl says, "She's she's not working on Shabbat." Okay, I can't I can't be hired. No problem. Packs a bag and she starts walking. And he saw that the girl was determined. And he says, "Little girl, don't worry. You can stay. You don't have to work on Shabbat." Then he says, "Everyone else, they have to work on Shabbat." Why? because if they weren't ready to give up their life for Shabbat, then they're not as serious as her. They have to work on Shabbat. And he let that girl stay and she didn't have to. And who's that little girl? She ended up being the great unbelievable rabbit and the wife of Rabbit Tamar, famous rebbit Steinman, little girl. We don't play with Shabbat and we're not going to jeopardize and risk our Shabbat. Shabbat is the heart of Israel. Shabbat is our gift and we're going to take it and now and throw it into the garbage and say no. We don't need Shabbat. Our ancestors have sacrificed so much in order that this generation is here now and so close to Mashiach. What are we doing for Shabbat? What are we doing to show the honor of Shabbat? What are we doing to show the awesomeness of Shabbat, the greatness and the power and the phenomenal gift of Shabbat Kesh and this unbelievable prize? How is our Shabbat? She was ready to go back to Europe not to make Shabbat. Mr. Walter was ready to lose a big day in business, not to make Allah Shabbat. What's a person doing today to show their love for Shabbat and how much they want to keep Shabbat and hold on to Shabbat? Shabbat is the day. Shabbat is the gift and Shabbat is the of the is reminding us and teaching us that in life there might be tests. However, the no one plays with it. We don't play with our we know that Hashem is the one that's madi not all the nonsense. The bunch of puppets. We had worse. We had Ham. Look at Ham. Is he worse than Ham? Ham wanted to look what he did. Unbelievable. And look at Ham. Look at him. And where is Ham today? And what do we have today? Ham. We have the greatest day of the year. Thank you, Ham. Thank you, Ham. Who knows? Maybe we're going to have another great holiday. Inshallah. They're all puppets. We don't need them. We have to only get close to Hashem. We have to meet and our we have to meet in the in the we have to know that is our father who loves us and he's there for us and we have to connect to Hashem and every day that we could grow a little more in the is phenomenal. So maybe a person might say I'm not that good yet in no problem. a lot of a lot of books a lot of and every day a person could start doing a little maybe I could be a little better and they do a little more ah I'm a little better in the today I'm a little better that is unbelievable did you do the business with your did you try to grow the did you try to do a little better and every little ounce of goes a very long way the more we can meet and the more we could get close to Hashem and get close to Shabbat kesh that's only going to benefit you and your families and that and that will help us to we have to realize that is the hold on to the fight for the protect the protect the brain protect the there's a lot of nonsense out there a lot of news and a lot of talk and a lot of things we have to stay focused we got to stay emit I don't care about anything we hit that's what we're here to do everything else is just a lot of loud noise we don't need it We have to meet that's what we have to do as it's been a pleasure to be here and thank you for joining tonight. This should be the family should only have continuous
