from the yiva in Waterberry and he was in the Army for 2 and 1/2 years he became a sergeant and then they told him that if he wants to continue in the army they would pay him because he was a very good Sergeant but he said no I want to go back to America to learn in the Yeshiva and so he came back to the Yeshiva in Waterberry and now it was or for himim and he heard everything that's going on he didn't hear everything but we knew something was going on and so he went to the RAB of the community and he said should I call ER Israel I have to call my commander maybe they want me to come back he said don't call now you call tonight when it's finished y for you because you keep only one day and don't make the call in the base Med she'll go in the dmitory where you have your phone don't be on the phone in front of everyone and call your commander and see what he says so at night it was Sim Torah already and everybody was dancing and he went out to make the call and everybody knew that he was calling his commander in Israel about 25 minutes later he came back and his face was white and was pale and everybody looked at him what's going on and he started crying and he said over thousand people have been killed already and my commander said I have to go back on Monday morning and there's a war going on and everybody was so shocked and they did the most unbelievable thing they gave him a t and everybody they put him in the middle and they walked around him singing is that slow sad song and they were crying because they thought one day ever going to see this guy again he's going back Monday to all the killing and the wounding and the stuff that you can't even say in the B medish and the hostages are they ever going to see Le again but then when they finished singing and walking around him they didn't want that he should leave on such a sad note so they sang a song which is a fast song and they danced around him and then he left he couldn't dance he was an Israeli as I said y was over for him and knowing what was going on in Isel and knowing that was going to go back to Israel on Monday there was no way that he could continue to dance and sure enough Monday he flew back to Israel and he came to all the killing and the wounding and the hostages and it was just absolutely frightening now we know that those people who were at that Nova concert not one of them was religious not one and we know that NE so many a were done by those people that were there and the question is how do we look at that NE they are our brothers and sisters that's how we have to look hair a long ponytail his name was to and to came over to Rabbi gibber and said Rabbi can I speak to you privately he said yeah of course now by this time Tom was wearing a kipa because you know he knew the rabbi was there and he said Rabbi I want you to know I was at that concert and I saw my friends getting killed I saw the parachutes coming down the drones Kamas coming and shooting and killing and I was terrified I knew I had to get out of there because I couldn't save my friends that they killing and sh shooting was all over the place and so I ran I just I didn't know where I was running I just ran wherever I the furthest distance I could and I saw a forest and I ran into the forest and there I saw a ditch a ditch is a huge hole and I jumped into the ditch a ditch was 5T deep I bent down to make sure that nobody would see me and Rabbi he says I was there for 5 hours and I didn't move until the shooter stopped and the crying stopped and the yelling and the screaming stopped and then I climbed out of the ditch and I got out on the road by that time 5 hours later already Israeli soldiers had come down from the north some Soldier took me on a highway and I was able to get home but he said Rabbi I want to go back to that ditch I want to go into that ditch and I want to say shay Isel because that's where I was saved would you come with me and Rabbi gibber said what's the question of course we're going to rent the bus tomorrow and Rabbi gibber huged them and cried with them because he saw how much the boy wanted to feel close to Hashem and Toma told him Rabbi I haven't tonight if you're 50 years old or more you're going to say it more than once right we know that right so then stand in one place and you know something I once told this to a thousand women and you taste is delicious some people love pizza some people love hot dogs so think about all the different tastes that's is the appearance is the Taste and is the nutritional value of food if we didn't have nutritional value of food you be dead in 5 days so that's a way of saying thank you in my S I have these words underlined so that's one thing is tor each of us has to undertake a little bit more Tor and the second thing is that we have to think about being grateful to Hashem for what we have our bodies and of course the food that we have the third thing is what RAB was talking about saying toim of course so he said you know I heard that the circus is coming to Lakewood and I bought a ticket to go to the circus but somebody told me this week that the M said it's not appropriate for a from boy to go to the circus but I bought a ticket already am I allowed to go so Rio was holding his hand and he said young man if you're asking me my opinion I got to tell you the truth I feel it's not appropriate for a FR boy to go to the circus so the boy looked down he was a little sad and he said okay rebi I won't go and he was about to walk away but R maio was holding his hand and he said to him we're still friends right and the little boy smiled and he said yes Reby we're still friends now listen to this 6 months later Rao was driving in Lakewood and he he had a driver and he says to the driver pull in that Shool he said what's going on in that Sho he says come with me you'll see he comes inside it's the night of that boy's Bar Mitzvah could you imagine and the father and the boy they see the Lakewood he's coming to the he wasn't even invited they can't believe it they run over to him thank you thank you thank you for coming and then the father says to him like why did the come you're so busy he said I would like to speak can I say so they said of course theid wants to speak of course what a question so the M gets up and he tells this story he says I just want to tell you what happened six months ago Friday night in sh the B boy he asked me a question about coming to the circus cuz he already had a ticket and I told him not to go and then I asked him if we're still friend friends and he said yes so if we're still friends doesn't one friend go to another friend's B Mitzvah that's why I had to come imagine that that's greatness he didn't have to do that he was busy till 3:00 in the morning giving advice to people but a little boy might feel bad still that he spent money on the ticket for the circus and the rebi told him not to go and he didn't go oh he came to the B Mitzvah that's worth everything that's what it means now listen to this fabulous story I was in s Paulo a few months ago in Brazil and I spoke in different schools different shs and Saturday and that's how she made money to buy food for her kids who are waiting at home she had no husband she was a very poor woman a widow and that's how she made money so sha goes out and seees she's crying she said why are you crying she said I'll tell you you know this is how I make my livelihood by doing the laundry I didn't realize today is rodes and it's and they're telling me that Orthodox women don't do laundry on rashes I didn't know that custom and I certainly didn't know it's rashes I already paid the babysitter to watch my kids and now if they don't give me the laundry I'm not going to have any money to buy food for my children so Shaina runs into and she tells her father-in-law the lady is crying because she's the laundry lady the and nobody's giving her the laundry because it'ses so listen to this Rim says do we have any laundry in the house so she says uh yeah I think we do he says run out right now tell her to wait a minute we're going to be out there in a few minutes she couldn't believe it she runs out she says to the lady don't go away just stay here my father-in-law said you should stay here she comes back in and R and her are putting together a basket of laundry and RAB says okay we're going to go outside now we're going to give her the laundry so she says but what about rashes don't the the F women they don't do rashes they don't do laundry listen to what he said he said helping an Alman helping a widow is a din in the Torah oh not doing laundry on rodes is a Minh the Torah law is more important than the minhag bring out the laundry they brought out the woman in almana now I want to tell you another story that happened with Rabbi gibber it's not an easy story to listen to but we are going to see greatness and we are going to learn a fabulous lesson one of the places that Rabbi gibber took at the 25 people was to the biggest Hospital in ER it's called T has tell has is such a great hospital that a number of years ago Newsweek magaz azine had a survey of the best hospitals in the whole world and came in ninth it was the ninth best hospital in the whole world now and today because of the war they have a whole floor that's dedicated to amputees amputees means those people who lost limbs some soldiers who don't have legs or the soldier lost fingers or a hand or a knee terrible terrible what do you say to a young Soldier that's doesn't have a leg anymore and they were trying to figure out you know to give kuk to these people and then they saw by one bed there was a 70-year old man sitting with a regular suit without a leg he didn't have a leg and so what happened was that thank you so much they were they went they went over to him thank you they went over to him and they asked him excuse me sir what what are you doing here you certainly didn't come from the Army you're too old to be in the Army listen to what he said he said 50 years ago I was in the um kle war and he said he lost the leg and he thought that was it it was over but then after he got out of the war he was able to get a job he was able to get married he has children he has grandchildren he said I come here every day without my leg to sit by these soldiers now I have a prosthesis a prosthesis means a false leg but I don't come here with that I want them to see he says that he doesn't have a leg and he comes to tell the soldiers that their lives are not over could you imagine how great that is a person comes there every day without his leg to show those young soldiers that life is not over what a beautiful beautiful way of AAS Isel and I want to tell you a lesson that I learned from this I learned from this wonderful person that every single one of us here tonight has challenges and many times Hashem helps and we go through the challenge and if you went through a challenge and you're successful you have AES that means holy obligation to put your arm around somebody and say listen I know what you're going through I went through it and I made it and if I made it you could make it and I want to give you some painful examples somebody for example who was divorced and was living alone for a while and then they were able to get married and now they're happily married so they have to go over to other people that are single and divorce and tell them listen I know what you're going through I went through it and if I could make it you could make it there's some people that didn't have jobs for months and they were wondering how they going to put food on the table but eventually they got a job so if you know somebody who was sitting many years and what they have to do and what is Hashem expecting of them but the reason they came to me was because I went through it you can't go over to somebody who's never gone through that and asked them to speak to daughters that are anyone here tonight anyone here tonight that had to walk down to their wedding without both parents remains an orphan forever and every Thursday I give a to all these teenagers who lost parents and anybody who is a yam or wants a bro on Friday over a thousand teenage kids get this broa how did I get to do that cuz I knew what it meant for a teenager to live without a father I'm the oldest of seven I was 21 my brothers and sisters were teenagers so I felt that sensitivity and if you know anybody that's a single parent there's a wonderful organization called sister to sister that I'm involved with and you know somebody's a single parent and has children I give them a br there's over 2,000 kids who get that br you could get it there's no charge whatsoever you give me a number I'll put you on the list every Friday 2 o' you're going to get the BR whether it's a child of a single parent or yasam or Y but that com because it happened to me the first part about being a yasam and so anybody who has that situation make sure that you see that others who have that situation that you helped them now there's another thing that I want to talk about puts in the $500 check the guy puts in the cash in an envelope and he you know he leaves the bank he leaves that Drive-In area he didn't check we figured the you know the bank knows exactly what it's doing and he had 100 different errands to do he comes back about an hour and a half later to the house he gives his wife the envelope she opens it up it's $5,000 she said she said what is this he starts counting he says Whoa We just got rich by $4,500 she said what do you mean we just got rich it's a mistake you got to give it back to the bank he said no it's a go mistake charum you know maybe I don't have to give it back she says what are you talking about he says look I'm a re in the Yesa I'm going back on Monday to the Yesa I'm going to ask the rebies what they say he goes to the Yesa on Monday he comes back Monday afternoon from school and his wife says like this I don't even want you to tell me what they said you're a yid and you're going back to the bank tomorrow to return the money now all of us on this side know and the women on that side talk like that we're going to listen we know that no choice okay sure enough Tuesday morning he goes to the bank and he returns the money Friday afternoon he gets a knock on the door he says sir who are you he says can I talk to you for a minute he says yeah the guy says to them I want you to know you saved my job I who are you he said I'm the bank teller who made the mistake they fired me yesterday they fired me because they realized that I made a mistake and they had no idea how they're going to get the money back I and then you came and returned the money oh then they see that it was not that they were going to lose the money they got the money back so I got my job back so he said I just want to thank you and I want to wish you a good shabas he said you're Jewish he said yeah I'm a barkarian Jew but I'm not wearing a keep I'm not religious but now I understand what religious Jews are all about wow and that's a kesem I'll be able to bake and cook and clean and he's said what in the world what was he going to do with 4 hours for 4 hours with the kids in Lakewood but you know that's what she said she needs so then he remembered that Newark Airport is only an hour away from Lakewood so if he takes them to the airport they were little kids they were never in the airport so that's an hour there an hour back now he's got to he's finished already two hours now he's got to figure out what to do with the other two hours but then he remembered that in Newark it would have an air train now an air train means it go from United to Delta to American Airlines the airports are so monstrous today so when you get off and you got to go to another terminal so you take a train now in Atlanta the train is underneath but in nework it's overground so I figured I'll take the kids on the train there's no charge you just got to pay for parking and like this they'll see the planes taking off and landing and you see the Jersey Turnpike and it'll be wonderful and he takes him on the train and the kids are sitting in the front car and and they're going to seeing the whole Airport planes up planes down Jersey turn bike terminals it's m they having a great time after two hours a pilot gets on the plane gets on the train very neat looking guy with a tie and a cap and a uniform and a suit and these Pilots they're wonderful people especially the guys who come from down south and they go over to see six kids he says uh where you guys flying today so they didn't know what to say so they look at the father and the father says actually sir we're flying nowhere he says nowhere he says you see we're religious Jews and we have a religious holiday and it's very busy so my wife asked me if I could take the kids out of the house for a couple hours and like this you know she'll be able to bake and cook and clean and we're just having a great time together and the pilot got very serious and he said young man I want to tell you something he said I've been a pilot for 25 years there's not a major airport in this world that I haven't landed in he said two years ago I got a text from my son and he writes me dad you're always so busy you never have time for me you never came to any of my birthday parties you didn't even have the decency to come to my graduation and last week was the birthday of your first grandson my son and you didn't come do me a favor take my number out of your contacts and he said two weeks later I got the same text from my daughter he said young man I have flown everywhere but gone nowhere you told me you're flying nowhere but with your kids you're going everywhere and I want to repeat that he said young man I have flown everywhere but obviously gone nowhere you told me
