and then uh shabas morning we hear
sirens and uh we we just went on with
the daving with the um with a laning
with a we didn't miss the be my friend
told me yeah that that the situation in
the south is very very serious at that
point I I got some idea I went to my
synagogue I pulled aside my Rabbi who
was there and I told him what I just
found out so he said to me are they
telling everyone to leave synagogue and
go home and go to shelters he said no
that wasn't the message so he said okay
therefore right now we need to increase
our dancing increase our singing that'll
be part of where we're going to help in
the
[Music]
situation and welcome to Torah talks
kazak's Tuesday night program with
special guests we have with us all the
way from B RAB doski and our very dear
friends from Queens but uh currently in
arish in the Holy Land in Israel our
dear friend y welcome how are you doing
great doing well thank you thank you
very much for agreeing to be on Tor
talks to give
us current situation thank you very much
for doing thisk of course of course 100%
so uh before we get to tonight's topic
of inspiration uh with the current
situation in Israel if you get a little
bit of background about yourselves we'll
start with with yakob I think well I I
think much of the audience might know me
because I am a publish co-publisher of
the Queen's Jewish Lake larian Jewish
link and uh also started the New Jersey
Jewish link and uh I'm a very very good
friend of Yaniv mayro and uh he was one
of the instrumental people that uh
convinced me to start it and helped all
along the way for the last 12 years so I
appreciate that on behalf of the
community we appreciate what you do and
helping out so many amazing causes and
it's very very kind of you yov and we
have RAB kovski as well yes everyone I'm
originally from Mony New York I I was
very lucky and blessed to to to marry
the daughter of of of
my and after this interview you could
decide whether or
not I'm I am deserving of this honor or
not thank
you I have the great the Merit to live
to live
hereit which which is South Southwest
of we've been here for for approximately
16 years and we hope to and we we hope
to stay uh as well through through the
curent and all
these
situations amazing RAB with what I
remember the catcher
with yes my well my my uncle my father's
brother he um he and he he a t of
shinberg
and he he he married married into the
family married the daughter
ofi and currently he's he's he's part
he's part of the head staff of of
sh and and on myself I've learning in
the and T for about 14 years now well
can are amazing okay so yako we all know
that you're from Queens New York the
publisher the Queens andaran Jewish
links Bas in Queens what brought you to
AR cge you came to visit the family well
uh that's a very good question we came
for the cus holiday and simp and and we
had just a marvelous wonderful vacation
treated royally by my daughter and
son-in-law and my eight grandchildren
karaara Atara and I had a wonderful time
and and then uh shabas morning we hear
sirens and uh exactly was going to ask
you what was the M what was the
situation everything changed but we we
were in Yeshiva with Rabbi fredman and
Rabbi fredman I mean we we just went on
with the daving with the um with the
laning with the hakas with the ksh there
was not we didn't miss a beat and uh
even though I'm sure Rabbi fredman had a
an an ankling of you know when you hear
sirens like that all morning long and
sure you know something's going on and
uh but we we continued Ding and that
that was uh I think it was excuse for
all of us to to to dive in and to and to
continue do it you know not let anything
get in our way and uh I think I I think
we were fortunate that you know nothing
happened and we we were
okay' for all these years has such a
situation ever happen occurring is it
normal to hear sirens it had um it has
happened before that we we have heard
sirens but but but but never at this
amount never never never at at at this
magnitude we were as as said so U
walking to thisa since morning was about
7:20 in the morning so so we hear from
far off in the distance maybe there
Echoes the sounds of many booms just the
sound boom boom so over bet we
occasionally do have fighter jets um
doing practicing training so so seeing a
fire jet um isn't is isn't the strangest
thing um but and hearing the booms so it
could be could be many sounds but we
noce that was quite a lot during
and during daving so we get to hear the
sirens after daving so I just give a
little background
so those who those who don't know it was
it was on the first day it was a
shabas so so here so so here in
Israel so yff is one day just sh just
one day but outside of Israel some keeps
two days he doesn't live here yet so
according to the we have so he has keep
two days two days of the holiday and so
and so what this sha does they do most
of the daving most of the prayers which
someone who keeps two days also needs to
do then they then they stop and they
have the dancing afterwards so that's
that's why that's why we we prayed by
this after but and after prayers oh I
left my father-in-law there he had to
take some do some some two- day things
while I kept one day and I left Thea to
go to my
own synagogue
but on the way I stopped in I want to
get a little spoiler for what's
happening next next TOA there's so
there's another synagogue where where
the mayor of the city bet Elite doens
prays so I wanted to get some idea was
going on we all these Sirens so I went
and I found a friend of mine I didn't
realize the mayor was actually sitting
at um at the table it was it was during
their
kides during during their break and and
and and and my friend told me yeah that
that the situation in the south is very
very serious there were there was
Invasion and
Breakin
several settlements around the Gaza
Strip then there's many and the
kidnappings and murders how bad is it
we're not sure but it's bad and
therefore that explains why why there
were Sirens missiles and at that point I
got some idea
I went to my synagogue and and over
there they had already started the
dancing so I pulled
aside my Rabbi who was there and and I I
told him what I what I just found out so
so so so he said to me are they are they
telling everyone to leave to to to leave
synagogue and go home and go to the
shelters I said no that wasn't the
message he said okay well in that case
right now
this is the last day of Y of the of the
holidays after the after the high
holidays Sher the whole El supposed to
be bringing ourselves closer closer to
Hashem and therefore right now we need
to we need to increase our dancing
increase our singing that'll be part of
the way the way we're going to help in
the
situation 100% also by us in America
when we heard the news right away we
took out
the and in
the finished this whole sa three four
times as
a and then we we the dancing was
obviously going on because
of but it wasn't the same it was
definitely definitely tuned down a
little bit and more less laic but more
Kum style heart from the heart songs
from the heart
[Applause]
of you know things you know all these
types of songs that really United us all
in in and um and uh you know right
afterwards we've we've had enormous
amounts of tum Gatherings massive
virtual events with thousands upon
thousands of people United together for
for is forel and there's been many
messages
of that everybody has to take things
upon themselves and that's the message
has been giving over to that there's a
message that hasem is sending to us to
wake up the last part of the Torah was
we read
it and it
says
that the Tor is a inheritance to the
Jewish people and I mention mention in
that has mentioned another time in the
Torah and that's
toward and one of the that a lot of were
saying that whenever we're we're
strengthening our our Torah observance
is is protected and unfortunately when
things are a little bit laxed uh laxed
then unfortunately we see difficulties
and hardships again we have no n and no
prophets today that could tell us why
things have happened but I heard a very
powerful message once and and I H
repeated it throughout this difficult
time is that down here we have no
answers there's no Nim there's no
prophets that could tell us why this
happened but up there there are no
questions down here there are no answers
up there there are no questions
everything is Crystal Clear has a so at
this time
difficulty what do you suggest that
should be doing what have you've been
doing is that have has been different
have you by our have suggested that we
say
after we're saying after all Theos
what's been going ones every Show's been
sayum and uh there was a mess Gathering
here in betar uh Forum on um was on
Sunday night right andar orar elite
betar elite place it's the same place
betar Elite yes and uh also um from what
I understand that have been people from
the Ked Community from the the religious
community that have been learning in
Theus of soldiers and there's an
interesting story if you want to hear uh
uh there was um they they set up this
WhatsApp with learn uh you know you can
learn for Soldier so my niece who has
her son who's a soldier in the Army put
her son's name down so uh he uh she gets
a a message that the the person that
wants to set learn for her for her son
in the Army is
yski so uh my I don't have any
grandchildren named YY and my uh and my
son DOI has a brother named y they don't
call him y so he says oh I have a cousin
who lives in ashto he's like in his 50s
uh maybe he signed up for it so it turns
out that this is also Rabbi fredman the
r where we daved on on on chabas and Y
uh was his grandson he's his daughter is
married to a kovski and this is doi's
cousin and it turns out it was an 11year
old boy toi's cousin's son who said it
and then the uh yesterday there was a
missile that hit in B which is a block
and a half from my from my daughter and
son-in-law's house and it turns out that
this the little y 11y old boy he lived
in the building which is like two
buildings away from where the missile
head and thank God nobody was hurt it
was I mean but but all you're hearing is
Miracles and miracles all over the place
it's uh um it's it's crazy you know it's
uh and the H is is just unbelievable
where in the grocery store in betar that
they're not accepting any Arabs into the
town into the the town of betar so there
were kids that because the schools were
closed they volunteered to help in the
grocery store to load the shelves and uh
help people with their packages and and
uh it's just unbelievable how much C is
going
on I could
say that I heard that
uh
who who who who he sered to be
today from from the the great rabbis of
of the
literature so he said was to we should
say
91 that just the first words of
of the par is that hasem sits in
C that he sits up high he's
hidden and and much more much
more times of war is is and and that one
thing which you have to to to realize is
that we just spent
espe who saying who saying of only
joined in in last week of but but saying
we've we've been
saying that's not just when things are
good that's I'm sorry this is a sign of
the I
apologize Jewish
so he's he's hidden we we don't see we
don't we don't understand we just spent
a whole month
until we
spend trying to trying to do something
to accept upon ourselves something to
improve our our our service to
hasem and also for ourselves between
between
people and then we come to the great Sim
great happy of suus where we leave our
homes and we leave our homes and go into
the Suka which is outside structure that
has much less protection and we are
relying on hem that hasem we are close
to you and we come to to be in in your
shade to be surrendered by by by your
safety and then we have the climax of
of this the last day last or
last last two days of being closed to
hasem and and now were hit by something
extraordinarily
tremendously horrific oh hashem's gone
he he the big guy dropped the
ball he's the same
one earli he's hidden why what's going
on reasons why happened now happened to
them happened here so terrible the these
are these are questions which maybe one
day we will uh be able to understand
right
now focus on is is the same
Our God he's only one he's only Power in
the world why is this happening has his
reasons but for
ourselves is the king and he runs
running the world amazing such such
inspiration amazing amazing um over here
in America like I mentioned there's
there is a lot happening over here
obviously the the prayers have been
increased tremendously the rallies uh
tilling rallies and even elected
officials uh have stepped up many of
them I know yakob is very politically
active and uh it's uh very very good
very nice and all the yeshivas over here
the yes that my kids go to are all doing
him for the situation in is any other
suggestions that American Jury those
that live outside of those that are in
different parts of the world uh that
could do uh for this situation in of
course uh Torah we're increasing prayers
were
increasing wow how many organizations uh
are out there and how many people are
reaching out to me about legitimacy of
organizations United I heard has been
getting a lot of gear and in details
Pantry that we have we have food giving
out to those that are in need the
director uh is Aviv and he has family
and friends in isra and he had a friend
that was able to take loads upon loads
of food to the airport and just ship it
out to the to the soldiers so any other
suggestions that we could do well I was
I was amazed I I I I saw um the POS
things from Queens that you had 2,000
people
d s Helen together and he had speeches
from the RAB RAB Welsh
RAB what's that we also have every
night Gatherings last night R Ginsburg
tonight while after this is going on we
have a virtual broadcast with Charlie
arari Rabbi cron and RAV Freedman
Wednesday night we have an event in
Queens Thursday night in Brooklyn Sunday
night in fet towns which're is going
full
force I I have a suggestion but my
son-in-law might not agree with me uh I
find out
I uh being that I I publish you know I
publish a newspaper and I see what goes
on and sometimes in the liberal media
and uh I know from previous Wars that uh
you know a you know the firstly the uh
the Israelis are The Underdogs and the
Israelis are getting persecuted and then
as soon as the the the war changes where
the uh Israelis are become the aggress
ERS and the and the media turns on on
Israel I I just think it my opinion my
you know my humble opinion is that that
every every American and every Jew
should um let the media know that this
is not the way to operate and same thing
with the government the government
should allow Israel to do what they is
necessary and amid AEM we should I you
know know y a lot of elected officials
reached out to me personally yes people
in the federal government people from
the White House people from you know
local Mayors governors elected officials
Council everyone
and they're saying at least that they
will support to to secure itself not so
we'll see what happens it's very but
it's very important that we we I mean me
the fact that I I have a newspaper and
the fact that uh there are many other
Jewish newspapers and many any other
outlets that that should put pressure on
the liberal media not to not to change
the course and not have the proportion
you know oh okay 500 Arab uh militants
are dead but you know but they massacred
grandmothers and babies and and did
horrendous things there's no equality in
the you know if my son-in-laws agrees I
don't know so so uh I do not I do not
disagree for sure yeah th those who can
influence
per perhaps they need to influence those
those those those who have contacts with
government officials to keep them on our
side to keep them we'll call pro-israel
pro-jewish so so to to do so to to make
to make rallies that that I don't know
I'm a
spokesman for
anybody just like those who those who
part of those part
of those who are involved organizations
perhap people those who do not volunteer
they should they should volunteer they
should that they should do something so
question also been ber on on each on
each individual what the people doing
some they they must and some and some
some people perhaps they should 100%
definitely very very very important and
uh on
side has never been busy giving giving
inspiration to those that are in need
and one piece of is the the holidays
that we just have
the we went from Y which was very
intense and prayers and being iness and
CH and fasting and you know it was very
very very uh I guess uh very serious
serious and then what do we jump right
after Yer to suus
to it's a lesson that whenever we have
difficulties we have hardships as as
Jews what do we have to do have to be
able to transform those difficulties and
hardships and to make it better I always
tell people you have two choices and
options in life it's either bitter or
better and we have to choose not to be
bitter sad and depressed but to be
better see ways that we could become
better people and the ways
that these things should never happen
again you know through our through our
prayers and Jim who knows we don't
know want to add want to add in oh oh
it's interesting uh do DOI and I went to
Rabbi Malik ban and
uh say his name like it was like a real
party he got everybody dancing and
singing
and and one of the things he said is um
he he got he got everybody very happy
and uh he
says so he explained that
that we should be happy on circus and
what's
the is the fact that
this what that you're happy with your
holiday the it the happier you are on
the holiday that's how happy you should
be the rest of the year and uh you know
um there was a monkey wrench on on
shabas S even though we should still be
happy we should always believe that you
know Hashem rules the world and uh and
uh he does things we so we like um my
son was said we don't know the answers
so 100% so
so something practical so it's two it's
really two things but really it's one
that that
that I think this is from from
RAB I think I'm quoting it from him
correctly just had a Torah talk with his
grandson rabar amazing okay so so so I
think so really he was talking about
making kabalas the person should should
accept upon themselves something to
improve upon for next year do during
during but but I got from my re it's
also Whenever there is something
dramatic happens so it's also a time do
something as is so he said was take a
cabala take something which you want to
improve upon take the smallest thing
something which you are pretty sure that
you could do and then cut it in half
and then do
that think that take something practical
small a
MIT
something a very big thing if if if you
if you're about to get upset and someone
for something very wrong did to you wait
five seconds that's it then get upset
but but the you held back that that is
big back all together great but just
take something small okay a bad example
but something small they
do
EXT to learn a little more wants to
learn learn
extra I'm GNA try to actually d a little
bit so busy in the morning
tell something and but really really
really in the same way to to do this I
said two things
do to try to do this as as
for and around the world I and like I
mentioned before so I I got from my so
big our days
is Bel and Trust in in the of at the end
of and really a first came is part of
the part of the prayers on sh and such a
powerful that we're praising hasem and
but we
we RAB said to add it into our daily
prayer this the prayer this is the part
of the prayer that a lot of people
they're running out of sh they're
running out of synagogue and and there
mumbling it telling a
suggestion try to slow down
by
F there zero there's no one except
for that we pray and that we hope and
pray that that that the soldiers that
that they'll be able to do their job
properly that they'll be able to fight
off the
enemy has many ways of
sending of sending salvation but we
ourselves as for ourselves and
for in
the there's no one in charge
except powerful very inspiring 100%
everybody has to take a cab take
something upon themselves over here at
kak we're constantly doing that
throughout the year but especially right
now is a very big push for men and women
everyone to increase in increasing
prayers increasing and
learning of
course giving charity saves from death
and uh the rabbi really really gave us a
lot of good insights and very good
points RI we really appreciate that and
we have AUST in Torah talks a final
message one final message that we could
give over to the broad audience that we
have I I would I would like to say that
um that the experience that I've had
over
circus uh has been just uh unreal I mean
the the the joy and the happiness the
for for the family and all the you know
the things he doing Colo and and the you
know the concerts and the uh the events
and everything was was was just so
wonderful and my message is that um what
we're going through now is uh a period
of um of you know it's tragic and it's
uh some something that every every every
Jew should uh uh should should
strengthen themselves and they should do
more um I mean the the and the and and I
just I I think that um we should all be
drawn into doing more for each other and
more for cl and uh we should see and
that's I think that that that that's the
message that I want to give
amazing we're always appreciative all
that you do ever since I was uh as long
as I was was 15 years old helping kazak
with its partial paper getting into the
into newspapers and promoting the
organization and letting it be what it
is today so we're forever thankful we
should only share and happy
occasions
final yes okay so so really to to Echo
what what what just said
explain um something a word a word Ines
in Hebrew to describe what what our
enemies what what they've done to us the
word
is the
word which plain simple means
cruelty point out this this I heard this
this I heard
from the word it's two
words Zar that means this one is a
stranger a is this one Zar means a
stranger he's a stranger to me he's a
stranger therefore I should care about
him watch about a
stranger
that put us into the gas keeps keeps us
in the gas then now's a time even though
one will say it's okay it's them but it
happened already it's over it's not me
please stay far away from being an AAR
this one is strange to
me that all
together to keep keep us in your in your
actions in your in your prayers and the
in the caring
about even s person who far away from
what could I
do pray for us do do do
another learning
Torah an act of kindness and this will
show that you're caring sees that that
we
have should be to take us from
this to the to the Salvation with
the mean very very powerful very
inspiring beautiful 100% everybody has
to come together everybody has to do
more to add said
before most the regular translation is
say little and do do a lot but say
something small take something small
take a small something upon yourself and
then that small is be become very very
big so everybody should take something
very small upon themselves and that's
GNA be very very big want to thank our
dear friend yob surl from Queens and
RAB from Elite for joining us on this
Torah talk inspiration for the
situation in the future we should only
cheer in happy occasions and joyous
occasions we should not know of any more
sad news and and sorrow and we're g to
do something we've never done before
because the situation is so so dire
there's still many many captives that we
hope and pray we're going to D in right
now we're going to say one to together
everyone wherever you are in around the
world while you're listening to this
with the many different platforms that
we're on please let's do one cap
together
