[Music] you know one of the things that we love most are underdogs we love games where the underdog wins we love watching stories with a person who has no chance somehow comes out and beats the opponent when you hear a story of someone that started with nothing and built a business the more he started with nothing the better the story is because we love underdogs but we're about to go into the holiday of the ultimate underdog we get lost because we think that Hanukkah is about lights it is there's a big miracle that happened with the lights but the real story of Chanukah is that the greatest only in antiquity the Greek army came down and they basically almost destroyed Judaism and they were winning and a bunch of Kohanim priests rabbis started fighting him I thought rabbis I wouldn't pick them from our bar fight here I'm saying I go to them for advice but if someone's bothering me I'm not breaking the rabbit it goes not to fight with Jews we do things we heal we eat we don't [ __ ] it and a bunch of rabbis took on the greatest army in the world and one and the question that I have for the few minutes is how did they do it how did they achieve such greatness because if we can figure out how they did it and we celebrate the holiday is a little piece of us that is part of that as well see the secret is is that every single one of us has a little bit of Maccabee inside them if you understand what their power is let me tell you one story and then I'll get off so every year I take about 200 men to Israel it's the hot it's one of the highlights of my year 200 guys from every background most of magmatism before and I take them for a week and at the end of the week we go to the Kotel to Dobbin Friday night and the cook it's unbelievable the guys come they're dancing they're singing and there's a group of people that bring soldiers to the cocoa they bring soldiers to the wall to the end of our praying when we're done they time it perfectly the guys are done domine for the first time many of them have no background and as they're done grouped into the Kotel Plaza 20-30 soldiers and uniforms the guys see them and they go crazy they bring them in the circle they dance with them and it's unbelievable one year the guy who was bringing me soldiers the soldiers that came to see him they're wearing plain clothes they were commandos so they were cool soldiers but they were just waiting regular clothes you can't tell the difference in Israeli tells me using the arm edge believe I don't know you come on sod I don't know you're Israeli they walk in 30 guys with like you know concealed weapons and they're like ah I'm like what do you mean the uniform but these guys aren't good for me and the head guy I realized that these guys wanted answers guys with guns and green and he felt terrible he was listening to me and the back of the Kotel is their leader here's a guy who's been in the every single intelligence unit you never heard of them because he's an intelligence guy but try telling you he's a Jewish hero I'm gonna introduce you to him you could talk to him for a few minutes so great I'll take it so I go to the back of the console and the guy forgot to tell this intelligence guy that I'm coming perfect so I think he's ready to talk to me as no idea who I am I woke up him and I said hi I'm so-and-so he's like yeah I don't know who that is but this is going great I said you said you must be like a really brave guy you've been in the Army a whole life who says they know I'm not brave at all I'm okay I'm like site you must be you must love being in the army you must be a big soldier he goes now I really have a very hard time with it I'm like I'm doing amazing so like you know what let me just in here it'd be uncomfortable because it's already uncomfortable so I'm sitting there after a while he looks at me and he feels bad for me an American kid trying to like talk to some Israeli soldier so he has a little bit of pity for me so he says to me you want to hear how I got into the army I said you better believe I do he says my father before the IDF there were a lot of small groups that were defending the state in Israel different pockets of small little armies doing their job because my father wasn't one of them and one day he had a mission and he got shot in the mission but he was scared to go to the hospital because if he went to the hospital he would expose his unit so instead of going to the hospital he comes home now you can imagine what's going on in the apartment my father comes in and he's bleeding to death my mother goes crazy we pulled the bed sheets off the beds we pulled the curtains off the curtains and we tried to wrap him up to stem the bleeding they sent me down the block because that the unit had wondered actors that were on call they bring in these doctors to try to help my father out and they make like a makeshift hospital room in the middle of my look my den and my father sitting there I'm panicking after an hour and the two hours guys walking in and out walking and now they come out I can see and my mother's face the color comes back into her face and I realize that my father's gonna be okay and for the next few days I was staying home to take care of him [Music] we said one night I'm still I walking by his room and he calls me into the meadows come here I walk into the room and sit on his bed and he says to me it's time I said Abba what is the time for it he says it's time for you to be a man I said it's time for me to be a man I'm 11 years old and I'm not that guy I'm not a brave kid my father slowly said time it's time for you to be a man and it hit me I think my father and said no no no way you can't go you can't go we need you we can survive without you either and don't give me that a time to be a man stuff I'm not ready to be a man oh no no no no if you're telling that because you know something you can't leave us we can't live without you you can't leave us and my father looked at me and said slower it's time for you to be a man and I said open up I think said one last time [Music] I said to him one word I said Abba I'm not able I can't do it I don't have the ability to be a man and my father he said wasn't a religious guy but he knew every single thing about his history my father looked at me and said you think I've raha me think Abraham was ready when I said ask them to bring monotheism into the entire world you think Joseph was ready you think Yosef was ready when they needed someone to figure out how to feed the whole world you think he was ready you think Michele was ready when it was time to leave the Jews out of Egypt you think David Devine was ready with his hunter to be king you think anybody is ever ready when it's awesome to become great you never have to be able and just have to be willing and if you're willing to do something that you can do you have to believe that a chef is gonna put something inside you and give you the strength that you didn't have before he said every single day that I'm in the army I think of the following thing even if I can't if I try I shall give me God will give me the strength that I don't know that I have to do the things that I can't do that's the secret to greatness you think the Maccabees could have beat the Greeks you think the bunch of rabbi sitting in caves could take off if you imagine taking a bunch of rappers go up against the Navy SEALs but someone had to step up to the Jewish people and they did and God tell you what you think you're gonna do something that you can't do and they said we don't do it but we have to do it and go goes you willing to do something you can't do because it's right I'm gonna give you a power that you didn't have because you're stepping up because I'm God I can make you be anything that you need to be you know an huzzah huzzah because they're willing to do the things that nobody else is willing to do that's who they are you got two young guys I speak to that leave I can't even I can't even I can't even listen quick enough to what's going on I can't even process they're willing to go out and help every single person even if they end they don't know how to do it they don't have the money they don't have the resources they're doing things that groups with 10 times the amount of money is doing you know what they're able to be successful because they're Maccabees because they really do it even though they can't do it and when you have a bunch of people willing to step up for God you know what a chef says you really do something that you think you can't do and you're gonna do it anyways watch what I power I've been put inside you you think the war of the Greeks is over it's going not in every generation am i brought to them is that they should always continue to have the strength but my praha to this crowd that you have to give them the resources that they need give them the support that they need give them everything you can because you give them a little bit they're gonna take that little bit that you give it and make it so much more because if there's ever a group of people they take one little penny and make it into a dollar they take one dollar make it into a hundred and take one bit of energy and cover the whole world it's the guys that understand what the secret of Kazakh is it's the ability to do things that you think you can't because you have to and that we should all have the ability in our own lives to become the people that I should knows we can be if we will do
