aka Martin Schwarz. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
So, originally from
and uh then I got married and
graphic design. And that was the first
thing because I love computers and
Exactly.
Okay.
Graphic design. The story by the way is
that
It's very it's artistic and then because
>> I love the art. Um what I love is
problem solving but
I always thought in the back of my head
that okay I want to get to programming
one day development but
graphic design
the rest is history. So I started doing
websites and
custom websites, doing custom
applications, custom software
and then
partner talking about about 3 years ago
partner
approached
an apparel company from the ground up
and he wants to start his own apparel
company. Now
I'm a developer. I build software
partner
was my business. It's like the
restaurant
is my business.
Yeah. So epic mention so many ideas and
they look for someone that's a developer
and and maybe you could build something
for me and let's do it together. It's
very nice. I'm not saying that now, but
I was busy actually building stuff for
clients that paid me. So, when I spoke
with my now partner, um I saw there's
something more in it.
And then we saw it's not going to work
as a project. So yeah, certain
partnership.
As time moved on, I saw that's where the
real deal is. I stopped basically my old
business where I built stuff. I had like
a studio
mention
and that's what I'm doing right now.
Friday.
>> Beautiful. Okay. [snorts] So
30,000 foot view of
one step at a time.
So
yeah,ics.
Yes.ics.
graphics
>> because
I'm very techsavvy and I have an
artistic side to me. So, I love to
create things. I love to build things. I
love to design. I love to come up with
ideas. That's me.
I think my life was more or less
covered. Um, but I I I wanted to build
something for myself.
>> So, it's down the road I'm going to have
to do something. That's when I made the
graphics.
>> Exactly. And also, again, a 9 to 5 job I
never saw as being the the future for
me. Um, generally speaking, I don't know
how it covers anyone's bills. So, I
never saw that as a thing. That being
said, I never in my in my life had a
job. So,
Um, definitely. Um,
>> no, I figured it out. But
certain experience, what it means to be
an employee. So when you employ people
first um as well as certain structures
but
from scratch align you never get a
chance to see it
>> right. So a certain discipline, a
certain loyalty, a certain
>> Yes.
>> in a work environment.
>> Beautiful. So
graphic designer.
>> Exactly.
>> So
this is what I do.
Listen, I have a graphics business. I'm
a graphics artist. and a and and and
>> okay
>> and uh my HD customer is actually my
landlord and um he's a guy actually that
asked me for a website
give me two weeks
>> yes okayion
Yes. Yes. Yes. Um at that point
>> at that point not later when I did
websites. So
technically I don't remember.
Um, so
was for sure not more than a year
because we're talking about 10 years
ago.
Come on. Wake up. We're not talking
about 30 years ago. Wow.
>> And yeah, but uh I got a few sales and
>> beautiful. So
uh that I feed you let's sayics
graphics but generally speaking I didn't
sell myself as as a graphic design
>> um
bigger projects it's also very it
constantly become graphic design is the
end of the game it starts over here ends
over here. Correct. This is woody max in
Photoshop in Illustrator in design. It's
not interactive. There's no
functionality. This is nothing happening
behind the hood. So, I am a very
technical person and it's a bone. I like
to build stuff.
I love to figure out things. That's
that's me. So, yeah.
Yeah.
>> Yeah, I believe so.
>> Okay.
>> Happens to be, by the way. I'm just
going to throw it out there. Um,
graphics is a easier business.
Yeah.
graphics to destination. There's no
maintenance, no nothing involved.
You have somebody as long as
>> technically yes. But
plainformational website
I'm not perhaps so yeah it is very
important
but it is more complicated but again
it's more rewarding it's say physically
Noics
totally in
>> Friday.
>> Okay. What's Friday?
>> Friday. Friday is a payroll and employee
management software for small business
owners.
>> Friday by the way
an existing business.
>> No.
name on the list copyrighted. We had
like good names and some backyard. This
is actually dry partners
and some we were just brainstorming.
Somehow Friday came up.
It's between us three. So yeah, that's a
name. And Friday is Friday. Nice.
Um, okay.
No
mind. So,
>> yeah.
>> So, the concept of the mastermind
two or more people.
>> Yeah.
can help
me.
>> Okay, that's that's what they say,
>> right? Okay. So, what's the concept in
Friday.com?
>> Friday.com.
Yeah. Yeah. So,
Friday is it feels good feeling and
Friday is usually the payday.
Um I think it's an amazing.
>> Yeah. Okay.
>> Um so, This is Friday. So the actually
simple payroll per employee. So the
company employees
employee employees
that means
that's just the way it is.
>> Exactly.
But the concept it goes per employee.
Correct. So what ends up happening?
employees
Y and Z.
What ends up happening is
companies
which is just it's very complicated and
the average user doesn't know how to use
it which means
competitors I'm looking to hire
a secretary with experience in X
[snorts]
product
is the second
Friday experience we get it
says let's try the experience.
>> Okay. So, so let's say QuickBooks,
correct? QuickBooks in order to do
QuickBooks bookkeeping with QuickBooks.
Basic program, right?
>> Correct. So, because
>> so the company Friday.
>> Exactly. Exactly. The council Friday is
host company
full of employees.
was
um and I had this I'm I'm a techsavvy
guy.com
>> Friday app Friday.com
>> Friday.com um team I have a team of
developers but I'm yeah my role is my
role is CTO Not a product. Correct.
>> Okay.
>> Um, so
that that's me.
>> That's what they say. Yeah.
>> But
computer
the password. Okay.
It's not rocket science.
butus
employee and I just couldn't find it and
it didn't make sense for me. Why should
processing payroll be so complicated?
So,
>> so
there's the concept. The concept is in
Zenon do 100% of the small business
owners
>> unemployed whatever
>> unemployed technically we say 1 to 50
but
it's a certain mindset exactly 24 25
year old
the best solution
>> so as I said technically generally
speaking yes correct but in hub
companies was let's say employees but
they operate as small business
>> perhaps
they manage
tax
definitely pension whatever payroll
deductions health insurance whatever
>> yes so it's integrating with with
benefits providers
We're doing that. Um taxes of course
that's that's the basics like filings
and stuff. Generally speaking you sign
up with Friday
we take care of the rest.
>> Right. Workers compensation.
>> Workers scam. Correct.
>> Okay.
>> What do you mean by that?
overseas employees.
>> So as of now
US employees but uh eventually we'll
have that in track but
beautiful fine
speaking successful entrepreneur
of the turning point.
Yes, I made it.
and subscribe to my list.com
entrepreneur
moment.
So far
a beautiful shin glossy picture
textbook story.
Which part of which part of the story?
Yeah.
Okay. Check.
Check. Graphics.
Yeah.
Check. Decide website. Next.
Okay. Okay. So,
okay.
Fine.
Struggles.
This is the midst of
The the in short is as
easy. Nothing was ever easy and it still
is not. Um
the 9 to5
okay
>> running a business is
every step of the way from day number
one till
you're not lunch break.
Let me just quit. Let me go look for a
job.
>> Um the is
that could be part of the problem.
>> No. Um I don't give up that fast.
Yeah. Yeah. So,
okay.
>> Yeah.
And then and let let the rest happen.
Um, does that mean stupid? No, you
shouldn't. Although you end up doing
stupid stuff, but you do what you do.
So,
any struggles.
No, no, no.
You don't give up. Beautiful.
You don't give up. But
[snorts]
don't give up.
>> So, okay. So, so do number one basics.
Do mention
9 to5 paycheck
of the future. My problem is
>> that's that's me.
>> Okay. Um,
but
because stock of the hand then
ain't going to make itself.
You're not going to take step one.
No.
Yeah. The basic conception
he plays 4 D chess. Yeah.
The concept is focuses
of plots.
>> Exactly.
>> Okay.
The skills
everything if you really want
the want
technically nothing that could stop you.
struggle
a beginning
whatever it is to keep your eye on the
focus
you're going to figure it out
is So yeah, I move faster but
and sometimes
but but at the end of the game if you
keep on trying
he's in charge
if you do the right things for enough
time I'm not talking about repeating
mistakes
is exactly the failure the failure is a
a a
>> a lesson exactly is a limit of next time
and that's the way you get there.
>> Wow. Beautiful. So,
so as I said before
as a 9 to5
minded, but by now um I've seen the
other side of the aisle.
There's definitely something about it,
especially if you have a normal way
when it comes to business.
X Y and Z because that's what it is.
Correct.
you're going to make it. And
they're also like hardly covering their
bills. So,
certain career, certain job.
Um,
But if you have what it takes and you're
ready for the pain, um, open business.
>> [snorts]
>> I think it's very
picture perfect questions
fulltime whatever
So the simple that's why I don't have a
job. That's why I never took a job.
I couldn't see it happening. Okay.
I don't know.
No
the the whenever numbers opportunities
for for mention for so many unknowns.
So, so
let's say$50,000
in the $50,000 let's say invest in real
estate then you can have a job%
100% passive income
yeah that's what I'm talking about
who who's going to employ you when
you're 60 years old
>> right
Right.
And this is done for the next. You
should better be very very disciplined.
But
>> Oh, okay. Thank you. But but
is a self-employed man
to job basic expenses whatever but
self-employed entrepreneur
in the financial market whatever says
but the self-employed match yeah but
paycheck 9 to5 says
the jobs that pay you really well.
That's that's another secret.
>> Right. Right. And
self-employed
so-called employee. It is self-employed
customers.
>> Exactly.
>> So my question,
what do you think he needs to hear?
>> Number one,
Um,
that's
it. Sounds very good, but it's very
hard. Um,
go for it.
So,
whatever you want to call it,
business, whatever
that you have to force yourself.
Everybody's paying the the price.
Exactly.
>> Exactly.
Beautiful.
is the first $1,000 story.
I have what it takes. I know I'm going
to succeed. I know I have what it takes
in the long term to succeed period of
time, especially
whatever. But
I think I have what it takes.
I don't think that way. I know I have
what it takes.
There's a way. There's a will. Is a
while. Will is a way.
So that's the way I look at things.
That's [clears throat] now feel good.
No,
that's that's my that's my my view on
life. Beautiful.
of the best
ton of experience
the graphics
Friday app.
So
developer
is by the way
everything is so different.
Um
as we speak
>> exactly
>> code for example is not a job anymore.
writing code. The developer developer
handle
developer again
developers
was was actually
writing code
agents. details,
but it's very technical. I don't think
that being said, um, graphic design and
websites, it's something I'm didn't do
in a nice couple of years. I wouldn't go
there
because
skill with the host is actually in the
computer
at the end of the game has to use the AI
and to come up with ideas and actually
take care of it,
>> right?
>> Yeah.
If you're open to it, if you're a
graphic designer, graphic designer
at your advantage, that's your job.
But
are going to stay behind. There's
nothing nothing you can do about it.
Um but
software software development software
development. So
developer the number one
developer what's
if it's just for the money like a well-
paid job then he's not interesting for
me. because
field
someone that enjoys problem solving,
figing figuring things out, um building
stuff.
I get the job then we got a problem and
you got a problem.
So this is development, but you have to
be someone that's act that actually
wants to do it even though you're not
getting paid for it.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> By the way.
>> Yeah.
My number one skill is problem solving.
And by the way, problem solving skill is
playing the concept.
Exactly.
>> What they saying? Find find out what you
absolutely love doing and you're not
going to work another day in your life.
>> Yes.
>> Work with the play.
>> It's true. But once it's a job, it's
still a job.
>> Okay. Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Excited. You're looking forward to it.
>> Exactly. Exactly
the original website
in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, which is kind
of the foundation for development,
WordPress, Wix, which is kind of
programs.
>> B4. Yeah, exactly. But
actually writing code.
Yeah. Yeah. I love it. I enjoy it.
That's that's what I enjoy. So that's
why I do it. If you're such a type of
person,
solving problems,
then it might be for you.
Then there's a lot of different
opportunities for you,
>> right?
And they never figured it out. They
never developed it.
get the position
high-tech company and
software people, IT people and
high paying jobs,
but they never developed it.
I get it, right?
As I said,
research
opportunity.
Yeah. So
with all sleep to break the code and
research plots exactly
>> beautiful. Anything else?
Um then obviously there's there's so
much information out there. There's so
much information out there
now with AI by the way is
base 44 how's it called
um at the other end to become a
developer to get a development job a
development career it's way harder
because
so the child is
the value developer
says
anymore
the lovable you have to understand the
inner workings how things work.
Yeah.
By the way,
by the way, you might be a good
candidate for this cuz you know, if
you're the type of guy that likes to
know,
>> I just want to know it works. I don't
care how it works.
>> Exactly.
[laughter]
>> Yeah.
Exactly. Exactly.
Yeah.
[laughter]
>> Exactly.
Arab then it's probably for you. So back
to to um programming. Um guys born.
Um but that's not really
>> that's what
exactly. Um in order to really be
someone was business
diesel base 44
as a developer and company like Friday
they have to understand like data
structures like
steps ahead data structure is different
There's so many things that happen when
you change any line of code.
So4
X Y and Z doesn't really work. By the
way,
The next step um the next step so
is
online courses.
Um yeah yeah yeah I wouldn't say a
single
[snorts]
but
W3 actually it's so interesting because
okay stack overflow stack overflow is
achiever
farm got any problem with code
came across a bug
And within minutes
there's AI.
So w3schools.com
like the basics
HTML page CSS JavaScript um start
playing around
as much we actually
build things break things
>> actually do the thing
>> exactly
that's exactly where you learn
Exactly. Exactly.
Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
And you finally got it. You got that
feeling.
Yeah.
for the program.
I'm very excited.
>> Got it.
>> Wow. Beautiful.
Appreciate the conversation. Is there
anything any last thing that
number one thing is
Challenges of the
challenges of
this is the process. This that's the
name of the game. That's the way it
works. It doesn't work a different way.
Not really doesn't work like that. Um
but we keep on going and
Um, I'm not really that active usually
in the basement. I'm a developer.
It's actually my first time on a
podcast. Actually, the first time going
public in the first place. You're doing
good.
100%.
Beautiful
Friday.com.
>> Exactly.
>> Friday.com. Beautiful.
>> That's the name of the game.
for
100%
famous.
That's the way it works.
But you still got to do what you got to
do.
>> Beautiful.
And it isn't pain. Isn't pain.
Try your best. Do your best.
Wow.
Appreciate it.
Amen.
