okay welcome back to the job code for hobnik we're here talking about the flavor carlpach uh the second interview about him and um it's it's fascinating to hear from someone who knew him and someone's father was very close to him and everything else and now you're telling us about a story uh uh concerning what what was it that I asked for the last thing I I mentioned was this babysitter that we had that we used for our children but uh who was really a woman that had no potential to be married if you're living with her mother she was a simple woman she was you know she was a limited person in that sense and uh to kind of you know because when I grew up the year there was a lady like that all mounted black who specific gas station all day on a on a beach chair and say hello to everybody you know but yeah but he he after this concert that he gave in this uh the traditional soul that was a matter of stuff and he when she she was so thrilled when she was telling me how much it attention gave her and he took up one of us it was just a thing of of uh just of simple Humanity to to a person like this who's like I said I don't think she ever was on a date in her life and I I when I saw something like that I it you know it just is the kind of gentleness and and lovingness that a lot of us would like to to be able to have because she was a babysitter in your house yeah and we used to have a babysitter but she was she was a person of limited capacity I mean she could go 9-1-1 if an emergency happens you know we gave a certain instructions but she was not she didn't have a job but you know to go to an office and have a job she wanted she was a lot of time I understand so what you're what you're saying is you saw how how concerned he was for another Jew it was just I was right I love the Jews that's all it was it was he had nothing to gain at all what I'm asking is what I'm asking is if if he spoke about you know why why people rejected him especially the author that's world and how did he I mean okay he said last time that it became the the sages use a term to to express what you said it just you know um in other words it's something that's like it's acceptable by everyone and it's not being done with shame you know for the sake of um sexuality or uh intimacy but rather rather just um it's it's per se it's the way it is that they give you give a hug you go on right you're saying that that was what you think well it was like his Consciousness right well it was a kind of paradise Direction on the one hand he's doing it specifically to show them that that you know the rabbinical World cares about you and Sam cares about you know he's doing a little bit of that but at the same time he's relying on the ETA if it doesn't matter because it's not really intimate so so there's a little bit of a dichotomy of the opposite and again as I said I'm not taking the hell officer right but but he had worked it out to a kind of a level where it didn't seem to be a problem right it wasn't creative insurance for him right but but but but the fact is that he probably lost lots of his friends yeah yeah right yes right so they're at some change so therefore you can't I knew guys who kept up with him over the years my father didn't but I knew people who didn't but again it was It was obviously an uncomfortable thing where now you say your father didn't what do you think that was because Rabbi hooked her told him he shouldn't but that was your father's own decision yeah kept up with him yeah right so it was definitely it was definitely my father's own decision but as I said there were witness keeping up with him was also a double-edged sword because because personally he kept up with him but he was he would let the sugar guys know that he he's not acceptable and uh and one A friend of mine who's still alive not so well told me that Roberta told him somehow he had a conversation with him and he said like explain to me what how would you define the what's you know what's a good way to pin it down you know and he just said he's a guy with a big head to her like like you and I don't have a big gigs okay so that so so that either they really thought that or he just thought that it's best for you she would welcome to think that I don't know but you know he he definitely was not going to buy into it and start saying well he's a Holy Soul and he did none of that stuff you know right right right right right right but did you ever hear uh Slimer talking about the babish the Reba do you have any recollection yeah yeah yeah yeah he was he I think he he quit thinking I would be standing there at the concerts and the guys would be Milling around and I I like my whole point was I never want to be the guy asking the stupid question right but I would like but I was as a reporter I'm listening as a reporter let the other guys ask the stupid questions and so you know he would say things like that you know that the the Frida Guerrera sent me out to the to the universities and then at a certain this is how he would say that I heard him say it multiple times he sent me out to the universities and uh and I would try to make concerts for men and women separate and basically two slippers would show up so you know the two who can't find a girlfriend or a boyfriend right you know she says so basically I came back to the river and I said to him it's not working this way you know the only way to do it is to do it right but did he say the Rebel or the Freedia do you remember yeah he was still saying at this point although I'm reading a book I thought it was a the time that was bothering me no no he was his mom for the food could happen that's what brought him into Lovato yeah that's for sure about it you know right that's no question exactly so but he said that uh if I'm back to the remnant on the uh that it's not working this way you have to be able to make a mix again I think he never ever said to him I can't sanction it you do what you have to do some kind of vague language like that that's that's what he said he said exactly exactly exactly but I think he like played it in a way where he didn't blame him he spend it he was spinning it a little bit but he wasn't blaming to him yeah no no I can't say accident but you do what you have to do so that he gave himself a little opening without blaming the revenue right I heard that several times yeah and what about Lakewood what did he say about the robotrans uh and him well so he what he used to say was about that so first of all like I told you he was uh he got into this little break of those this kind of a roadway he's going yeah you know everybody's saying I would have two understood this year yeah or he would say Rabbi Eisman from Vineland yeah uh and him in a different versions that he would say and and uh he you know he was very proud of definitely of his time with Brian and he was and when he talked about her she was themselves he would always say beautiful things modern coastloo you know it's unbelievable a tremendous you know fire what did he says I know I didn't I did not hear him comment about that okay but I heard him one time on a tape they were getting him a little drunk it was perm cutting and he ended up in his gathering with a few receiver guys and there was and there was some liquor on the table so so he was as you can hear him getting more drunk as the tape goes on and so somebody said and the oldest YouTuber was trying to get comments out of him about the super people yeah so he said you know and he had lunch in time it does we're in Slimer I know was the receiver yeah and she said it's in the election I know what about to explain behind me and he's already a little drunk because [Music] that's what he said you know his name is Holy and awesome and then he said I want you to know you got to fly my Highlands could not learn if he saw one unhappy face in the best matters because the the receivers would sit facing Beyond facing the crowd welcome set phone and there she was he said if he saw an unhappy friendship to get off and go with her and see what's going on what what did you ever speak about the Rayas because he it seems like he had a very deep feeling yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and I the thing I heard him speak about drayathan he would even what he was saying about the Roman Agave but he but I don't remember uh where he would say he was just speaking glowing terms in terms of oh no question about it and with Roman Ahmed well he used to tell this story about how he took this guy yeah she was nice I know the story yeah he went on to the talus yeah and uh no yeah I think she was nice one story but I think it's a different story different story maybe I'm Rosh Hashanah that during oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I'm not exactly I I I I I since we're online I don't that can't be it's it just didn't happen definitely didn't happen in later years but this would be really at the early early stages around other people I I know I am you know you know like like it sounds like it definitely sounds unlike yeah yeah but but no but that there was a hero there's no the Bone so he definitely had a very warm uh he would say he would say very nice things about him and I'm trying to do I remember anything specific uh maybe not at this moment but what about what about the zombie did he ever speak about sound you know he would they had been together doing you know working full Obama's and then but and and Donna really basically went off to death you could see that from your even your interviews with him yeah he basically tells you he's driving on Shabbos yeah yeah I mean there's no there's no answer for that right so so it so it was said because you know the examine went off and then Slimer didn't go off whatever Slimmer did you know it was a shame yeah I mean I mean he wasn't he never defined his life in such a way where it's all outside you know he cold Buster right right so it's exactly so he he had been uh in advertising and he had made a lot of money in advertising and then but he had no children so he he had he moved to Israel like he would cast out and he moved to Israel he's still alive I don't know I don't know I haven't seen him in a lot of years okay and so when he told me I didn't interview with him one time before he moved to Israel when he lived in Chicago okay and so he told me he said I loved Kaaba and and uh and I benefit a lot from him he says but I did find that there wasn't just him that that it was this was about he said but uh I a lot of guys I knew who were around him were also instead of being promiscuous in other words they would be the kind of they became kind of religious but they were meant for myself to a certain extent to a certain guys if that was there put it this way if that was that issue women they weren't getting strands from kava to find out if that isn't right right and you know so yeah but at the same time it's it's not you're gonna blame slave I mean no no no yeah they were promised to us on their own right right nobody's saying that he made people well he promised me but the point was that District told me he knew his guys he said that the guys who had a problem with that before and they were drawn to the front guy a lot I couldn't overcome the problem so all right you know it is what it is uh tell a funny story with a guy very close for guys name is Sherman and uh and he his father was a wealthy psychiatrist in uh in Southern California and if father was a religious and he was being drawn to religion you're talking about Bob Sherman no no I don't remember his first name he lives he he his father helped him and he built a beautiful house and tell stones he has 10 or 11 kids the very fine guy not a bad guy no no no no no someone else okay yeah very fine guy and a very fine wife and and he also have this beautiful house that his father helped though and tells us he was very nicely settled but like and when I lived in Telstar it's ready more than 20 years ago so I was moving it so he's told me that when he was being drawn to Kaaba and Kaaba had the house of love and prayer in San Francisco but he lived in Los Angeles we grew up in Los Angeles so it was just like puddle jump uh plane that's what they would call a puddle jump because it's a short flight yeah it's like jumping off it's less than an hour from led to San Francisco right so he used to call the puddle jump but that was expressed a puddle jumper okay we'll jump over the puddle right I got it I got it and uh and so he would go like every Friday for like 29 dollars it would fly to San Francisco and be there for Shabbos to Dallas Love and prayer and he was very inspired but he says over time he realized that either he's crazy or other people are crazy because they just the Norms in the way of thinking and their way of acting and what so he began wondering maybe I'm crazy because he's spending every weekend with a group of people and they're all like on a different wavelength so he said I I think maybe I'm crazy so he went to a psychiatrist with a psychologist he paid to whatever the assessment costs and he and he spoke it through the psychologist and the guy said to him listen I don't mind ending on new patients and taking your money every week you know he said but I let me just tell you it's real simple they're crazy you're normal so you know so he took a lot did he say there was a promiscuity in the house of government no no no no no drugs scrubs no well maybe I don't know there was drugs in San Francisco yeah yeah but it was LSD time LSD yeah but I never heard that that was part of the culture in the hospital you came there you came for Shoppers people would sleep uh mattresses in the hallways up the stairs down the place was where if wherever you can find a place to you know bunk down and did but but it was and the Shabbos was unbelievable over there you know everybody would talk about it did you ever discuss in the Indian and Toyota with the flame I mean he was a massive yeah yeah he was and uh it's one I was in the store one time on the on the second Irish voice because on 79th Street yeah right what happened was that uh I was invited by Rabbi Jakob J Schwartz he's known yeah right so uh so what happened was that they flew me and I looked at you so but they flew me into speak to First nitish rules at this other school okay and which was a normal song and uh and me and then he just set me up at AC Mustang who had a two million dollar apartment an unbelievable place but then now after the first night I said my theorem now I'm off to work but I'm also I'm in America my wife's in Israel I you know Don's holding me down and I could do what I want so I went with those Sons you know for the invention and for the second night so basically so I thought maybe they're gonna have learning the second night but they didn't have learning what they just did was that they sued the the meal went on for like four hours and and uh and he was sitting up there you know what's one of the interesting things was that his divorce saying why would come and uh it was a very unusual thing because they were divorced but she would come and then at the end of the evening he would deputize people to welcome back to her hotel it was very genua he didn't want to be working hard to the hotel so that was very interesting but and uh so as he's sitting next to his ex-wife and uh and then the whole thing was that he had every this was gave you a real taste of this whole movement because every person in the room much if there was 80 people some were couples and some were like singles the oldest singles and uh over this four-hour spent and I was there something like that and it would he would have kept track and he asked every person to say it but right there so every single person contribute and went off the hours but the thing was that some people were would say like a nice word that you could hear in any show and some people who were searching and they age bits of Terror and they know what they were talking about a few and then there was some people who would say crazy rambling insanity and everyone said quietly and respectfully and they let them do their thing for a few minutes and you know you can see this guy's nuts and you know even if not mommy even if the person is functional but this is her way of looking at Jews and what he thinks he knows but it's all mixed up but everyone got respect and they got their turn and they felt influenced enough to be heard and uh you know it was a question showing that but when I was dealing with him for a few hours I talked with a civil attorney I said which he said acted like he liked it but I didn't get real feedback that was you know where you showed other knowledge than what I was telling him and uh and I asked him a lot of things like that was when I asked him if it's true that my father's life and the money and he told me it was but there was there's a very fascinating thing that happened and I'll try to talk to you as fast as I can uh was that he used to have every year in Toronto Doug Friedberg because he remembered his wife came from Toronto yes my father was a house in Toronto right they said a few brothers that lived there so he would look part of the time in Toronto even when he was officially living in Israel and uh so once a year adult Friedberg who's a millionaire the Toronto for a very special the originally from Chile no no originally from South America but he built up the community until I branches again so uh so Dove would once yeah have come after comes into his house and all these Robin and Robin would show up it was unofficial kind of an event you know it didn't ghost house and there was a guy uh I think his name is not from the really rich harassment who was a who is a a tremendous Oscar and he would help people find doctors in hospitals a great guy but really burnt them up he was I would say I was sitting with him Mark who's still alive and he's really burnt them up I don't understand what Dove is doing he why are you giving coming you know why it's showing disrespect to him and this District not disrespect disrespect and and uh and all these people who are rabbits and you see this and they're going conditional they're going so he was against it but they did the fastest freeze break that is about the guy and people would come and and so I had a guy who would get me the tapes of those evenings very fascinating so I wanted to take and usually the tape would be is Karbach is singing his voice is distinct and you hear people singing along or you can see it he's a performance singing and and crowd singing and simultaneously but there was one song where I don't hear him singing the crowd is singing and he's not singing so I suspect that maybe that's not his story maybe it's a guy maybe he led a guy from the audience and said he composed the song Maybe let the guy sing it you know and it's a consists and and maybe that side it wasn't sure so when I came to that time in Manhattan and that time and I said to him slimy can you confirm to me that the story of what's behind this song the way the storm goes is the first step is a without words and the second half he sings the word so it goes like this [Music] that's the first step no words and then the second happened [Music] what are those words what are those words those four words uh from the uh I didn't hear them which means that if the mute in the future in the time of Messiah to mute will burst and so on right and uh and those words are from the uh what you say before benching uh at uh Brothers when someone got married and it's a time of renewal and connecting with the future so you say that it'll be a time in the future where even the mute will be able to burst right praise and sing yeah yeah and so and I thought what I thought especially beautiful besides that it's a nice melody but the whole it brings its acts out the whole idea because the first shift is no words and then there's words it's like the mute getting the words so I thought it was beautiful but but I don't know if it was for him because I'm listening I don't hear him singing in that tape from Toronto so now that I'm meeting him personally I said to him what's this story says yeah yes my son and you know what I have to tell the story you know because we had this whole crowd you know she was 90 bags on the table I have to share this story the toughest uh gentleman my friend here around behind me what this story behind it so The Story Goes Like This that when he came to Berkeley that it was his famous uh you know concert from the alternative music world uh anti-dorn Vietnam or whatever but in Berkeley in California do you hear him tell this story a lot because um when he came there he he made sure the Chabad guy in Berkeley knew that he's going to be on campus he said maybe if I'm gonna like it I'll pull a few guys come to join me for showers to make some extra food you know because maybe I'll have a few people and so he's so it ended up being that his appearance at the concert was so great and he always said very proudly only Bob Seger and me we were the only two who got people up to dance only Bob who is it Bob Seger or Phil Seeger who was a Counter Culture musician a Jewish guy and he said we'd only two that got the crowd up to dance because because Joan Baez was then Dylan and all these people and he was proud to do only the two of us got people there so uh so when he made that concert it should have ended up being like 200 people came to this guy that was scrambling to find a uh you know a kazaki's a olive sized piece of foods verified right you know but it was like one of these Great Moments in time so he said that when he came onto campus uh you know he was walking you can imagine a little bit of a crowd and Entourage and this a lot of people don't know who he is non-jews that look and who is this guy you know and and and uh but some of the Jews who knew him were with him somewhere so it was it was that kind of thing where he's moving then he sees this girl he says with horrible skin conditions like like leprosy never saw something so horrible so he asked people what's the story with that girl and they said she's a nice girl from a you know a middle class home and came to college and got into drugs and the drugs caused this weird reaction it's a one in a 10 000 people you know that the body reacts to drugs this one and and and and and you know and she was it like really repulsive to look at it was it so he decided that's it and he took his group and he approached us and said what's your name how you doing and he soon and she wasn't even Jewish you know it was clear that she wasn't doing it but he said why don't you join us you know we're gonna have a concert and we're going for the December anybody said she ended up coming with them for services to the Chabad house and uh and then after that she was following him everywhere because if she was like a freak of at this point and he was the one who showed regard for her so she was following him and eventually she gave up the drugs and when she gave up the drugs the skin clear up and all of a sudden she was on the regular nice looking woman so so and so in the House of Prayer she would she was there like she was coming every shower she was thinking converting she wasn't committed yet but she was there in the hospital so there was a a couple getting married and he'd make one of his multi-hour cyber brothers that he would make yeah is this still part of the story that he's telling tell us he would do for instance I got 10 minutes 10 minutes left yeah okay so basically uh there was just Seven Brothers going on for a couple who just got married a postmodal celebration which goes on for seven days but I mean but it's gonna be a couple hours and everyone's singing and this and that and then she says uh some if you don't mind that I think I better go home it's about 12 o'clock my father doesn't like it if I come up to it uh you know he says okay great balls here so she went out to her car and then she comes back and crying and her car doesn't start but she says that her father bought her this car as a present when she turned 18 or whatever this but he he said I have only one condition I'm not telling you where to go you know you're on your big girl one thing if the car ever breaks down do not accept help from anybody because I I suspect all these guys Good Samaritans you call me just make that one commitment to call me if the car racing so I said what do I do so this is what's the problem you made a commitment so she says yeah but what I've never told you is that my father is the head of the KKK for this whole region oh my gosh he says and if he and if I have to bring him here to a Jewish place yeah I don't know what'll happen and furthermore she says that my father he doesn't drink during the day but in the evening will knock down a shot or two and then his temper gets really bad so I really could I I'm afraid to bring him at him he says listen you made a commitment you have to honor the commitment but what we're going to do is we're locking the door we'll continue to put it and we're locking the door so when it comes and knocks I'm going to the door nobody else go to the door so the containment body you know it's seven breakfasts and then they had you know bang on the door he opens the door and this guy is there you know he's like red in the face a little bit like he's had a few shots and he says oh greens wow you know Britney is fine I don't know what her name was you know oh we've heard so much about you you know what a terrific guy he was he's always talking about such a great guy and he bought her a card yeah you know you're unbelievable but everyone should have a father like you and and he starts buttered the guy up and he says you know having a party we just had a couple here who got married I was celebrating why don't you join us and so the guy sat down with them and they continued the body then eventually he excused himself he went out he helped him to start the car and went away and after that she wasn't afraid to tell me what she's about and then later she went to cover it man what what letter she converted wow and so he said that she married a guy from diaspberry Shield and and and they and he says that the father from the Ku Klux Klan background yes is it all right if I walk you down and so yeah and so of course they said you know that can worry about technical continent that's not the moment to do that you want to walk it down of course and so she never said that when he saw the Ku Klux Klan father walking the girl down it was a good artist who's a convert to marry Akashi Jew he's then it came to him those words of the music shall sing the day will come beautiful story I never heard that story that's unbelievable yeah yeah that those are the type of experiences that he had you know and he was also we're going to speak about time that's pretty much out but he you know he was a master Storyteller I mean to say what it would say over a Hasidic story he he made it alive and and you know I I listened and I start crying it's just like and how he's uh so what else would you like to share about the tour oh so so what I want to say is that uh you know we see very clearly oh the first let me tell you one more Miracle story okay we've got five minutes so yeah wisely yeah it's a miracle story that there's a family called Kudos if you yeah that was his disciples and uh and in the early days around before was fully built up they had a house over there somebody got a piece of property and they built it was this freestanding house and uh and they lived there the cudders family with a few kids so all of a sudden the phone rings a million tonight I heard this story not from them but from a different family that I was friends with that was from Carver students also the family Rings the phone rings the middle of the night and Carlos their father Stags out of bed picks up the phone a hi I'm here in Germany I'm performing in Germany and I just got a feeling that I need you to come pack your bags and I need you to come and wow okay the revitation you know they're all right the rabbit set and so he but one because he got up he smelled it's burning and there was a fire had started and he was able to save his whole family from the fire because of this crazy wow wow that is from Germany that's a great story so yeah when I heard that I was like whoa that that's special yeah and then also in amuno wet and when she put out those few uh the volumes of that magazine so she got a letter from a guy he wrote it out and he said like this that it was out of what kind of a concert with cabba and he gave kava his business card afterwards because karma could do that he would take your car at the job I'll give you a call yeah okay and then a couple years went by his life wasn't working out well and he decided he's going to kill himself so he says he he put He he set up a noose and he pulled up the chair Under The Noose and he's about putting his head into the news and the phone rings so he's thinking to himself idiot why do you care that the phone's ringing you're killing yourself he says but not but I have the impulse it's all rings I got to answer the phone he takes off the news and goes down picks up the phone and he says and he's hi this is Slimer Karma you remember you gave me a card and I put it and tucked it in this in a book you know in a safer that I had at that time and just not picked up the safer to learn and your Cloud fell out so I figured I have to call you because I don't know it's unbelievable it's so that tells you that this was a person who who was really out there for people and then Hashem thought he was worthy to use him as a as a Australia that you know as an agent to reach out and save people and do these kind of things shows you that he basically you know we don't have to write a house on everything he did that's yeah and and should be racist things and all that that it's not really our concerned today as much as it was other than to say nobody should copy those things but but the point but the larger point was that it was a dedicated person that went out to save news and enabled him many instances to really let me ask you if jockles do you remember the moment you heard that he passed away yeah yeah I moved to Cincinnati from Israel and uh and somebody called me on the phone it was it was it was a joke because he he knew he wasn't sick he always had a tons of vitamin bottles and Things by the way his daughter put out a thing yesterday I don't know if you saw it today uh his daughter diary on Facebook put out a memory of her phone very fascinating I couldn't circling around rapidly send it to me please send it to me can you yeah and so uh you know so he always had these vitamin bottles when I was out to show vitamin bottles all over the place and you know I try to maintain his health I thought that it was all overweight but who else could say that way yeah I would free of that bro so you know but uh but he died suddenly on the plane and uh and Discovery ever was on the plane which is interesting the old the old school you rabbit or the today's I think it's today it's a younger one and uh and I mean when they brought that there was a doctor on the plane they try to revive him but the best way but he accomplished quite a bit for 68 years or 66 years he he went a lot of places he met a lot of people and they're just the ability to keep producing niguna songs that I just have that problem he was gifted he was gifted yeah but I told my students online students this morning that he only com his compositions were all original and he didn't take from others yeah yeah once a while he would tell you you know okay let me see I'll sing about this and sing this without him you know he would do that once in a while watching something but he would tell you that tomorrow it's not me that's it I've heard all that I was familiar I I um we've come to the end so uh for now at least I want to say thank you very much and I really appreciate the fact that you remembered yeah sure I told the heavens it's a flame as the art site and that you remembered that we I said we would do the interviews um
