Cantor Shabtai Ackerman Z"L - Chanukah Brochos
Shabtai Ackerman - Cantor (dramatic tenor). Born in 1914 in Kishinev (Bessarabia province of the Russian empire is now Moldova). As a child, was a chorister (viola) at Cantor Avraham Berkowitz (Kalehnik), Yehuda-Leib Kilimnik, Haim and Jacob Rivlisa Zypries. Later, he sang tenor with Cantor Moshe David Steinberg and David Roitman in Kishinev synagogue "Zovhey tzedek." The first post of cantor was in Bucharest synagogue "Ahavat Achim (Fraternite)." In 1931 he became a "touring" cantor: he sang in various synagogues in Chisinau. In 1938 accepted the post of cantor synagogue "Zovhey tzedek." During the Second World War, was wounded and evacuated to the Soviet rear. At the end of the war was in Bucharest, which was originally a synagogue cantor Rothschild, and then a synagogue, "Ahavat Achim." In 1950 immigrated to Israel in the next 4 years was the chief cantor of the synagogue, "Beit El", and then chief cantor of the Great Synagogue in Tel Aviv. In 1955 accepted the post of cantor synagogue "Bet Abraham" in Detroit. Since the early 1970s was the cantor of a synagogue in Birmingham (Mich.). Shabtai Ackerman died in Florida in 2007.
