what if I'm at a non- kosher work event
and they have a fruit platter out can I
eat from the fruit really is an
interesting question because on the one
hand we know that it didn't come from a
certified place and the concern over
here is that even though it's just fruit
it was cut with a non- kosher knife the
concern is that there could be residue
that remained on the knife even though
knives usually appear clean but we're
required to be concerned that there
might be a tiny amount left on the knife
that can smear onto the side of the
fruit however is that if a large amount
of fruit was cut then we could assume
even if a little bit of it got onto some
of the fruit it would be nullified in
the majority if this is a large platter
of fruit then even if some of them let's
say five or six of them would have
gotten the smear of the N kosher on it
we could assume that in the majority of
them it's okay and therefore you're
actually permitted to eat from them so
strictly speaking it is permissible to
eat from these fruit however you know
sometimes people avoid it because it
could be considered like a marsan
therefore one has to be careful what
they choose to eat at these type of
places
