Hello friends welcome today we're going
to create beautiful hair clips for
Hanukkah this is a beginner project
which will use two basic embroidery
stitches the back stitch and the running
Stitch the materials you will need for
this project are stick and Stitch
[Music]
paper printed pattern that you will need
to download from the video description
below hair clips of your choice a pair
of
scissors an embroidery needle with a
large eye as well as a needle threader
if you have one cotton embroidery thread
a color of your choice felt or thick
fabric so if the fabric is light choose
a dark color of thread if the fabric is
dark choose a light color of thread and
embroidery hoop and a hot glue gun or
some form of glue with adult supervision
and permission now I'm going to show you
how to create the two basic stitches for
your project the first one as I
mentioned before is the back stitch it
starts with a point and then moves its
way backwards the next Stitch is a
running Stitch running stitches are
easiest because all they are is poking
through from left to right in an even
pattern now we're going to take our hoop
insert the
felt and tighten the
hoop select a piece of thread the length
of
approximately 18 in when you cut it you
will notice that embroidery thread has
several different strands all we need
for this project and for most embroidery
projects will be two strands this means
that you will need to split your thread
and keep two pieces of thread together
for your project next you can insert
your threader into your needle if you
have
one now make a double knot in your
thread so that it stays behind the
fabric when you start your
project peel your pattern and if you
choose to make two hair clips you may go
ahead and peel both of the circles at
the same time and you can put them both
on the
fabric now we will begin the star we
will poke through and go forward on the
first
point then from here on out we're going
to go backwards with the back stitch
[Music]
here you can see that we have a triangle
we're going to begin the next triangle
with this one we're going to start right
into our back stit ch
[Music]
once youve completed your Star of David
you're going to go ahead and do a
running Stitch begin wherever you'd like
and work your way all the way around the
circle
[Music]
this is how your star looks on the back
once you have completed your circle and
star to complete your project tie a
double knot with both of your threads in
the back and then simply cut the thread
so that there are no loose pieces on the
back remove your project from the
embroidery
hoop but as you will notice now you have
the sticky paper you can easily wash it
off with warm water and then Pat it dry
but I recommend you cut your fabric out
before you wash the pattern off I cut
mine out first and it made it a little
bit harder to get it cut
evenly next you're going to take your
hair clips and with an adult's help go
ahead and glue the backs of your
embroidery
project onto the tip of the hair
clip do be careful not to burn your hair
hands and of course ask for an adult's
help voila now you have two beautiful
hair clips a book that is very helpful
to learn how to embroider is called the
reader digest complete guide to needle
work you can actually find this one on
Amazon or in your local library thank
you so much for watching happy crafting
and happy
