Every company needs a COO, a chief
operating officer. When I took on a COO
in my business, that's when I was able
to quadruple the business. You see, most
owners of businesses are not great
operators. They're visionaries. They're
people that have big ideas, big goals,
big dreams, but when it comes to the
actual execution of the business, they
don't know what they're doing. A COO is
somebody that takes all of the pieces
and all of the parts of your company,
everything that you were previously
managing, whether it's sales, whether
it's operations, whether it's marketing,
whether it's employee management,
employee engagement, they take all of
those things and they have their hand in
all of those things and they sort of tie
them all together and they begin to
manage all the people in your business
and all the processes in the business
for you so that you can actually do what
you do best, which is come up with great
ideas, great products, great services,
and sell your heart out. I remember that
when I took on a COO, it was a big
decision for me, but it was something
that transformed my entire business
really forever. Once I was able to let
go of the things that I did not enjoy
doing, I'm not a detail oriented guy.
I'm a person that likes to move forward.
I like to move fast. I like to take
ideas. I like to implement them. But
once those ideas are conceived and once
I've come up with the plan, I don't like
to execute on it. I don't like to manage
it. I like to come up with new things. I
like chasing new ideas, new dreams. But
you need somebody that's going to be
able to take those ideas and those
dreams and have those ideas managed.
Everything needs a process. Everything
needs an employee to manage. And if you
bring in a COO into your business, it
will transform everything that you're
doing. It'll make you so much more
effective. Think about a bird. A bird
needs two wings in order to fly. Right
now, if you're a owner of a business and
you don't have a COO running your
operations, you're like a bird trying to
fly with one wing. It's just not going
to work long time. There's no way to
scale your business if you don't have
somebody who's equally as good as you in
the operations. Now, you might say to
yourself, well, I can't afford a COO,
you know, because some COOs cost 100,
150, 200, $250,000.
Maybe you can't afford a COO, so maybe
you want to give up less of a salary and
give more equity in the company. That's
an option. Another thing to consider
when you're thinking about hiring a COO
is usually us as entrepreneurs, as
business owners, we can't imagine that
somebody wants to be a number two in a
business. So you have the number one,
which is you. You are the person running
the business day in and day out. And
then you have your number two, which is
your COO of the business. And there's so
many people who don't want to be number
one. They don't want to be in your
position. They don't have the
creativity. They don't have the ideas.
They don't have the gusto that you do.
They don't have the guts that you do to
be the number one. And they really enjoy
being in the number two seat of the
company. This is what they're born to
do. This is what they're great at. This
is what they excel in is taking
somebody's vision like yours and
bringing that vision to life. Happens to
be that in my company. Now the question
is is where do you find that person? So
you could find them through referrals.
You could find them through your
network. You could post on LinkedIn. You
could speak to your friends. You could
speak to your family. You could speak to
co-workers. Maybe somebody in your
organization already has those
characteristics as that number two that
you're looking for. And all you need to
do is empower them and elevate them to
that position. or shameless plug, what
my company does is we specialize in
finding COOs for companies. We've done
it so many times. We found great number
TWS for great number ones. And we've
seen consistently over time that these
clients that we place a COO in, what
happens is after a month, a quarter, a
year, 2 years, 3 years, that company is
completely transformed. We go out into
the market. We find the best person
suited for them and we bring that person
to the table. Once that person is in
that position, all of a sudden that
company is able to grow to levels that
they never thought possible. It's an
incredible experience. It's an
incredible thing to watch. Quite
frankly, I have the privilege of working
with so many of these businesses. So
whether you work with us or not, that's
your choice. But do not miss this
opportunity, this really overlooked
opportunity of finding a great number
two to manage your processes and your
people and your business while you're
going out and building it. I hope this
brought you value. If it did, please
