So, welcome everybody. Thank you for
gracing us with your presence. If you
could put your cell phones on vibrate,
please. There's one source sheet. It's
double-sided. And a few pictures
today. You can retrieve the source
sheets on the
yeshiva.net as well as the shear itself.
It live streams there and it stays there
with the source sheets if you want to
get it later as well and have it on a
computer. Today's class is dedicated in
loving memory of Miriam Mera Bat Helen
who recently passed away on the fifth
day of year dedicated by her devoted
husband and children to Masatsura but
hakayim. We are very very sorry for your
loss and may her soul continue to be a
source of light and love and empowerment
and blessing and inspiration to you and
the entire family and the community and
all of the Jewish people. Amen. The
class is also dedicated
by
Carol
Akolika in memory of her dear parents
Shalam ben binyamin Halevi and Barl
Basdavid whose yards are on the 26th day
of year and the 27th day of year and
year. So Carol dedicates this in loving
memory and leishmas her beloved parents
to and may their eternal soul remain a
source of tremendous inspiration and
blessing and empowerment and all
abundance for you and your family and
all of our people. Amen. And we should
merit the great prophecy of
Vanuaf Mish Mamish. Amen.
Today's class is going to be divided by
hashem into two parts. The first we're
going to be dealing with a a Jewish law
which at the surface will seem very
technical because it is technical. It
can also appear
tedious in the sense that you know
sometimes just say I'm not a business
I'm not a business person. I'm not
involved in all of these transactions.
It's basically a law about how
transactions work. how business monetary
transactions work whether it's a sale or
a gift but it's an acquisition and at
the surface it's nothing but a very
physical concrete technical that governs
civil law according to the Jewish
perspective much of hala deals with that
transactions partnerships sales
acquisitions obviously if everything
goes smooth everything goes smooth but
it doesn't always go smooth that's going
to be one part of it and it's this
week's para para bahar which discusses
the laws of acquisition when somebody
sells something and buys something. But
as always, we are going to hashem
discover how this seemingly just
technical law about monetary
transactions which would seem to relate
only somebody who is immersed in that
world of business or just wants to learn
it and understand it really is a
blueprint for life. Like everything in
terra it exists on so many different
levels. So every law has the body of it,
the physical concrete idea of it which
is like the basis of it. But it also has
deeper dimensions and layers that when
you uncover it, it is really a
psychological idea behind it, an
emotional truth, a spiritual energy
behind it. And what seems like a very
technical law about transactions is
really an entire um belt on Shaolong.
You know that word world perspective. I
don't know if anybody uses it old German
Yiddish. A world perspective on what
happens inside of our lives. As you
could see the title of today's classes,
why Tanya is the most relevant book of
our time. How to live at peace with
yourself. We're going to be also
learning one of the most fundamental
themes of one of the most classic works
in the world of is known as the Tanya
that was written by the alterb rab of
leyadi in the 1790s was published in
1796 and
this connected to parah really opens us
up to this reality what does it mean to
live at peace with yourself everybody
knows that life is filled with
vicissitudes and Every moment there is
what's called stimula and reaction.
There's something coming in. There's
input and there's output. I'm seeing
things. I'm hearing things. I'm feeling
things. I'm picking up things. Some of
us more than others. Some of us more
sensitive than others. Some of us more
anxious than others. And then there's
how I respond to it. But every person
responds to life in so many different
ways based on their makeup, their
composition, their background, their
nature, their nurture, their inner
system. What makes the difference
between a regulated life and a
disregulated life? What makes the
difference between responses that allow
me to live with more meaning and joy and
serenity and calmness and connection and
responses that can have the opposite
effect? What is it? Is it just to have
good discipline and control? Some of us
felt that way. You know, we try so hard
to do the right thing, but internally
I'm sometimes a mess. And then some of
us learn to shut down our internal
selves. It's like I don't care if you're
a mess, you know, just be a boot, just
be a foot soldier and you're in a boot
camp. Life is a boot camp and no haba.
You'll eat kgle and sit on the couch and
drink your ice coffee. Yes. Are stuck in
sight. Yes. And are stuck in sight.
Right? I don't have to explain this to
Jewish moms thousands of years. The
pillars of our of our world of our
planet. A person was born to
toil. But what does that really mean?
What does that mean? So let's begin with
this and develop it. And uh if for the
first few minutes you're feeling bored,
it's a very good thing because you'll be
able to have empathy for all of your
boys because I'm serious now. Your boys
sit in yeshiva for 10 15 some of them 20
and some of them if you're sponsoring it
30 years depends on the situation and
much of their time they're learning
Gmorrah. And much of Gmorrah is talking
about these types of these types of
concepts. Now when we uncover it, the
ideas behind them are brilliant and
divine. It's God's wisdom. And yet we
will uncover the spiritual and emotional
significance of it, which means it's not
just divine wisdom. It's also extremely
relevant to one's daily
life. So let's begin right away. Look in
your source sheet. We have it also in
English. So everybody could follow. I'm
going to read the first few paragraphs.
Please tune in. Torah law stipulates a
person cannot grant ownership over
something that has not yet come into
existence. This is known in
as shalom.
So if a person sells the fruit that his
or her tree is expected to produce,
didn't produce it yet or a house right
that I will build or maybe I'm going to
purchase it next year. I mean the sale
has no legal validity. Let's see the
source.
Rambam 22 chapter
22. I want to make a transaction. I say
I have a field. This field is going to
produce in six months. amazing grain,
wheat, barley, of course, organic. It's
amazing. And I want to sell it to you
now. You give me money, we make a
contract, I sell it to you. Is it a
transaction? It's not here yet. If I if
I sell you the field, that's a different
story. I didn't sell you the field. I
sold you what the field is going to
produce. Elon what this tree is going to
produce an apple tree a kiwi tree a palm
tree what it's going to produce the
dates that it's going to produce
or I have a beautiful cow here she's
probably going to become pregnant and
I'm selling you the baby now but there's
no baby yet there's no
fetus there was no acquisition here
there was no if I sell you a tree you
see in your first picture there's an
apple tree if I sell you an apple tree,
you have a tree. If I sell you the
apples of an apple tree that are on the
apples, no problem. People buy apples
all the time. You take the apples and
it's yours. But I didn't do that. I sold
you something that doesn't exist yet. I
sold you the apples that will be here
hopefully in 6, 7 months, 8 months, a
month. There's no legal transaction
here. Why not? The reason for this has
to do with the nature of Kenyan
acquisition. Aic term that refers to the
point at which the ownership of an
object is transferred from party A to
party B from Dra to sprint from Yankl to
Zelig. The method of Kenyan varies.
Payment to the seller, drawing up a bill
of sale, transferring the object into
the domain of the buyer. But the bottom
line is the act of Kenyan reflects a
change in the object. Instead of
belonging to A, it now belongs to B.
Since a kenyan relates to the object
itself, there can't be a kenyan unless
there is an object in the seller's
possession to which the kenyion can
apply. You understand the idea here? So
an example, let's say I want to sell you
a house. Okay? A million dollar house.
Gavaldic. It's a beautiful, beautiful
house. You saw the house. You're sold on
it. Pun intended. I'm going to sell you
the house. We draw up a sale, a
contract, a deed. I want the money. We
bring in the lawyers. There's only one
technical problem. It doesn't belong to
me. It belongs to my neighbor. I say I
say, "No problem. I'm planning to buy it
from my neighbor. I'm planning to buy it
from my neighbor and I'm going to sell
it to you." What is the guy going to
tell me? No problem. When you buy it
from the neighbor, let me know and then
I'll buy it from you. I can't sell a
house to you now that belongs to
somebody else. Doesn't work. I I could I
could say whatever I want. You can give
me all the money you want. I have to
give it back to you. The money has to go
back to you. Why? You can't give
somebody something that's not yours. How
do I sell to somebody your house, your
car, your computer? It doesn't work that
way. Your gown. If I have it, I can sell
it to you. That's if somebody else owns
it. What if it's not in existence?
Exactly the same thing. These apples are
not here. They're just not here. They're
going to be here. Sell them to me, but
they're not here. If I sell you the
tree, then it's not a problem. You got
the tree. Whatever grows on the tree is
yours. That's fine. I could sell you an
apple tree in my garden and you own the
tree with everything that happens. But I
didn't sell you the tree. I sold you the
apples to sell you apples. They have to
be existing so they could be transferred
to you. Now I could make a nether. I
could make a promise. I could say when
my tree produces apples, I'm making a
nether a vow that I'm going to give them
all to poor people. I have to do it
then. But it's not a kenyan. There was
no transaction. Right? If I do hat if I
enol my vow which people can do is say I
didn't realize I made it there's so it's
not a transaction it's not a legal
transaction the apples don't belong to
the poor people once the apples are here
and I give it to the poor people now you
could do today from today if I sell you
a house and a month later I regret it
unless you're very very nice and you
want to you know redo the transaction
it's yours so the idea is that nothing
can become the ownership of another
person unless it's existing Makes sense,
right? As you see in the next paragraph,
a person might enter into a commitment
to deliver a certain object to his
fellow at a future date, but this
remains a personal obligation rather
than an actual transaction or
acquisition. And there are many legal
differences between a personal
obligation and an actual transfer of
ownership. If I make a personal
obligation, I have to do it, but I can
also get out of it. Like is a process
from which you through which you can
enol your vows, right? like we do
by many do it because that's why we
say because even if I'm making a
commitment I don't want to be obligated
but if I don't say I have to do it but
there's but once the transaction happens
it's a whole different story now it's
actually yours and this can only happen
once the object is in existence and this
applies to everything if I'm selling
fruits that don't exist or even a gift I
want to give a gift to somebody of
apples but they're not here yet. But I
make a contract, aar, I give it to them,
a commitment. These apples don't belong
to them. Sorry, you can't transfer
ownership of them that doesn't exist. Or
I have a sheep and I know it's going to
produce amazing wool. So I sell to you
the wool. Sorry, there's no wool yet.
It's not a transaction. What's the
practical ramification? After the wool
grows, I could say I don't want to. It's
done cuz it's not yours yet. Right? I
could reneg on it even though I said I
want to do it but I didn't make a nether
or I made so I could reneg on it. The
same is true with a field a farm
uh a cow that's going to become pregnant
and have a baby beautiful once it has a
baby you could sell the calf but the
future is non-existent. Okay puts it in
these words.
If I sell the fruits of my palm tree to
my friend, I can regret it and cancel
the sale even after the fruits have
grown. Why? Because the transaction is
meaningless. It has no legal validity.
When did I sell it to you? When they
were non-existent. It's like selling
somebody somebody else's house that's
not in my property. The fact that I
didn't sell the tree, I sold the fruits
means nothing happened. So even in six
months when the fruits grow and you come
to me and you say, "Give me the fruits."
And I look at the dates and I'm like,
"No way. I don't want to sell these.
It's fine. I don't have to. I have to
give you back the money. If you gave me
the money, of course, I can't keep the
money. But the fruits have not become
yours."
Granted. So now there's a question. Is
there a way of selling something that
doesn't exist now for the future? Is
there a way for that or it's impossible?
Can I sell you something that's not in
existence now? It may be in existence in
a year, in two years, in 10 years, maybe
in 6 months, maybe in a week, but it's
not here. Is there a way? Or maybe no.
There's no. If I want to sell it to you,
I got to sell you the whole tree. I got
to sell you the whole farm. I got to
sell you the whole cow. Here's the cow.
Give me a,000 bucks for the cow. If the
cow has a baby, it's yours. But I can't
sell you the baby. There's no baby.
That's the question. The answer is
there's one way. What is it? So, let's
look at the next paragraph. However,
there does exist a legal way for the
buyer to fully acquire something that
has not yet come into existence. The
future fruits of a tree, for example,
short of purchasing the tree outright.
In the words of my manes the rama, a
person can sell a thing for its
fruit. A thing for its fruit. This is
not considered to be selling something
that has not yet come into existence
since the thing exists and he's selling
the fruit producing aspect of it. This
is comparable to one who rents a house
or field to his fellow where he does not
grant him the thing itself but rather
the use of the
thing. Let's see the Rambam inside.
I can sell you something, the body of
something, the essence of something for
its production. I'm not selling you the
thing itself. I'm selling you the aspect
of the thing that's going to produce
fruits. That's not called selling
something that doesn't exist. You know
why? Because the actual thing is here.
I'm trans I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm giving you
I'm selling you the part of it that
produces
fruits. If I rent a house or a field to
my friend I rent you a house of mine
that's for 50 years even for a 100
years. What does that mean? You can use
the house. Can you expand the house? No.
Can you destroy the house? No. Can you
sell the house to somebody else? No. So
what does it mean? But you could use the
house. I rented you the house to live
there. Enjoy it. It's not yours. The
whole house is not yours, but it's yours
in the sense that you can use it. Here,
too. I sold you. I didn't rent. I sold
you a farm, but I didn't sell you the
whole farm. I sent you I sold you the
aspect of the farm that produces grain.
That part of the tree that produces
fruits. So now I didn't sell you the
fruits. I sold you the tree that
produces fruits. So therefore, it's a
good it works. That's what he's saying.
I give you a gift or I sell you a field
for its
fruits. Maybe for 10 years, maybe for
the rest of my
life. I may sell you a sheep, but I'm
not selling you the whole sheep that you
could go and eat it and sell it to
somebody else. No, no. I'm selling you
the sheep in the sense that you have the
right for everything that grows from the
sheep. So, I sold you the sheep with
certain rights of the sheep. Just like
when I give you a house, I'm selling you
the I'm renting you the house to use the
house, not for everything. Here, I sold
it to you, but I didn't sell you the
sheep to do whatever you want. You can't
check the sheep. You can't give it to
somebody else. I sold you that what?
That you have rights in the sheep for
whatever grows. The reproductive element
of the tree. I gave you the reproductive
element of the tree. So, yeah, you can't
destroy the tree. You can't give the
tree to somebody else. It's not like I
sold you the whole tree. I sold you the
aspect of the tree for the fruits. So
here you have a interesting way how I'm
selling you something that doesn't exist
yet, right? I'm selling you the fruits,
but it works. Why? Because I didn't just
sell the fruits. I sold the tree for the
fruits. So it's not a game because I
didn't sell you the tree itself, but I
sold you the tree for the
fruits. Let's see the last paragraph.
Just as a person can purchase half a
tree or one branch of a tree, could you
buy a half a tree or a branch? Of
course, a person can also purchase a
certain aspect of the tree, its
productivity. The tree itself has not
been sold, but a part of it has which
part? The element of the tree that
reproduces. Thus, there is an object to
which the king might apply. The future
yield of the tree is now
unequivocally and reversibly that of the
purchaser as opposed to a personal
commitment of limited legal value. So if
a person contracts to sell the fruit
that this tree will produce, he sold
nothing. But if he stipulates that he is
the next side selling the tree for its
fruit, the buyer acquires ownership of
all the future fruit though the tree
itself remains the property of the
seller. Somebody wanted to ask
something. Okay,
that's probably a risk that any buyer
takes unless unless we made a deal about
that.
If there's let's say a drought or f I
mean yeah I mean that's risks in all
even if you Yeah,
right. I'm selling the future. You're
saying what happens if there's no
future? So that's a question that the
buyer and the seller have to discuss.
You know, maybe he's going to want less
money. Maybe he's going to want to give
less money because there's a risk.
Depends how deep the risk is. Maybe he's
ready to take the risk. Maybe he makes a
condition that if this doesn't happen,
you know, I want to cancel, whatever.
These are already the details of how to
create the transaction in any situation.
In any situation, even if I sell you a
whole farm,
so you're selling the tree. So there's
three different ways you can do it.
Selling the tree, right? You're selling
the tree, but not the whole tree.
Meaning you can't go and gift this tree
to your friend. You can't go right and
change the tree. It's still my tree.
What you could do is anything that grows
is yours. Why are we calling it
a rental? Sounds like a rental. It's not
a rental because it's yours forever. It
could be forever.
It's yours in the the reproductive the
reproductive aspect is yours.
10,000. You can call if you want to call
a rental, you call a rental. But the
point is a rental is usually for a
certain amount of time, right? Say a
year, say 10 years, maybe there's a
lease for 60 years. That's true. But but
but but this is this is essentially this
is essentially for eternity that
whatever this tree will ever produce or
it doesn't have to be for you're right,
it could also be for 10 years. All the
tree all the fruit is going to produce
is yours. You can call it a rental, but
I'm not calling it a rental because it's
a sale in the sense that it's the other
person's for good if they made that
condition unless they did it for a
limited amount of time. You're right. If
it's a limited amount of time, it's a
it's you could call it a rental, but
it's the idea of a sale that this is
absolutely yours. In other words, I
can't come back and say, "Oh, I like
these oranges. I'm taking that for
myself." No, no, no, no, no. The tree is
yours. But the reproductive aspect of
the tree, I like the wool. No, no. This
wool belongs to me. What do you mean the
wool didn't exist a year ago? You sold
me the sheep for the wool. The sheep did
exist. Caprena.
Why would somebody do it? Push it. Push
it. You You want fruits?
You want all the grain of my farm. You
sell grain, right? You sell grain. I
have a farm that produces grain. You
come to me say, "I want to buy your farm
for a million dollars. I don't want to
sell my farm. I like my farm. I love my
farm. I've lived on my farm. My father
lived on the farm. My zeta lived on the
farm. I love my sheep. I love my cattle.
I love my chickens. I love waking up 4
in the morning with my roosters. I don't
want to sell my farm. But you want I'm
not interested. I'm not selling grain.
So what do I do? So you say, "Okay, sell
me the grain." Now the grain is not
here. I can't sell it. You want a legal
transaction. So what do we do? We make
this deal. You say, "I want to purchase
the farm." But what aspect of the farm?
It's reproductive aspect. That's what I
want to own in your farm. I don't want
to build houses on the farm. I don't
have a right to do that. I'm not selling
the farm to somebody else. But whatever
grows on this farm is mine. And we make
a sale right now. And it belongs to you.
Why does it belong to you? There's no
grain. Cuz I didn't sell you the grain.
I sold you the farm for the grain.
You see what your sons do for 15 years?
A few hours a day. You're getting away
with a few minutes. Yeah.
future. Yes. Yeah. You're basically in
secular. Yeah. Yeah. You're basically
selling the
future. Okay. Re not recess is a little
later. Recess is later. You're going to
have you're going to have a long recess
today because of your behavior. And I
know that the ADD is kicking
in. How is this going to help my
marriage? What's
withim? What's with my stress? I came
here because I had anxiety. this
morning. I'm really not interested in
buying a farm. I mean, I would love to
buy a farm. I wanted to live on a farm,
but my husband was not fond of it, and
it just didn't work out.
Huh.
Yeah.
Right. So, the the question is what type
of sale is it? What what what are they
buying? Or they may be buying the
property. So the property is here. I
could sell you a property. My prop I
sell you this. I can't sell you this
property. But they just let me use let
us use. I could sell you a property. The
property is there. That's what people do
constantly. They're selling you a piece
of land that exists, right? But just
like I can't sell you a house that
belongs to my neighbor because it's just
not mine. How can I give that to you?
Selling means giving something to you.
It's a real transaction.
has certain properties that they want in
that house. That's true. So we may make
we may make that deal like somebody may
sell one floor of a house. People do it.
I sell you one floor of the house. That
floor is yours but it's yours for good.
Say one second. What about the second
floor? The second floor I keep. Right.
People own one floor and somebody else
owns a second floor. In Brooklyn this
has happened for many
generations. At least in the good old
days. One person owned the basement, one
person owned floor one. One person owns
the floor. Here I'm not selling you
that. And at floor one, you could do
what you want. I mean, you can't destroy
my floor, but you could do what you
want. So here too, in in in secular
toms, it would be I'm selling something
for certain rights of it. I'm selling
the rights, right? The you have the
rights of all the fruit that this tree
is going to produce, all the grain that
this farm is going to produce, all the
wool that this sheep is going to produce
or these sheep are going to produce.
This is the point. This is also the
point. This is to go. There's disappoint
y'all.
That's interesting.
Interesting. I hear when kana I hear
interesting.
It's it's it's interesting question
about kana.
Okay.
You're asking a deep question. How could
Kana tell Hashem, "I'm giving to you,
right, for the rest of his life. He's
non-existent yet." She wasn't even
pregnant. Number one. Number two, even
if he is, it's a deeper question. How
could you promise something about your
child without asking them? I mean, when
he's a child, he's a child. But one day,
Schmo is going to become an adult,
right? She's going to become an he's
going to become an adult. So like what
type of I'm going to decide what you're
going to do when you're 25 years old,
35. I mean you're going to have to
decide. So that's a big question about
Kana and their actually asks it and it's
for another Shia. It's a very good
question. It's a very interesting
question. Not only that became a nuzer
because of this was a nuzer because of
his wife's commitment. His not his wife,
his mother's commitment. How could she
do that?
It's a very very fascinating question.
Yeah, it's a good question. Yeah. But I
don't want to go there because it's
mama. Okay. But remind me before because
that's when we read the story of Kana.
Yeah. But it's it's a fascinating
question. Okay. So let's go step now.
We're going to shift
from legalities to consciousness. Are we
good? Yes. Okay. Thank you.
I am for the shift.
Okay. In terra there's two aspects.
There's what's called nigla of terra and
pmia. Nigla of terra means the revealed
or concrete aspect of tra. Like this law
is a classic example. It's about fields,
about cows, about trees, about fruits.
It's very concrete and it's relevant if
somebody wants to give a gift or
somebody wants to sell something make a
sale how to do it that it should have a
legal authority according to but every
as we said has
pia means the in inner inner soul of it
just like you have a body and you have
an inner consciousness they're both
indispensable to life a soul without a
body can't live in this world it's just
pure consciousness a body without a soul
is missing its life its inner vitality
its animation
So in also is compared to a person. So
every has like the concrete physical
manifestation of it how it applies to
practical day-to-day life whether it's
laws about matzah about fillain about
chabas or about transactions. And
there's also the pimat the inner core of
it the soul of it what it represents on
a deeper psychological emotional
spiritual level. what we just learned.
We're now going to shift and see how
this becomes a mirror in life. Now,
let's understand something. We had three
different possibilities. Possibility
number one was the best scenario. I just
sell you the whole thing. Leave me
alone. Baraka, take the farm, it's
yours. Take the cow, it's yours. Take
the tree, it's yours. Then we have no
problem, right? It's yours. Whatever
happens, it's yours. Fruits, grain,
corn, whatever happens, it's all yours.
wool, calves, babies. It's all because I
sold you the thing itself. We had the
other extreme. I sold you the future of
something that doesn't exist. That
doesn't work. It doesn't work. It's not
a sale and I could reneg and back out at
any point, even after they grow. And
then we had the intermediary track. What
was that? I didn't sell you the whole
tree. I didn't sell you the fruits. I
sold you the
rights in this tree.
of the fruits. I sold you the aspect of
the tree that produces fruits. I sold
you the reproductive dimension of this
tree. In other words, you have rights in
this tree, not in the fruits. You have
rights in this tree. What rights do you
have? That whatever grows is yours.
Those are the rights you have in this
tree, in this cow, in this sheep, in
this farm or whatever is producing
something in the
future. When we think
about we have a p in when we think about
what is avoid hashem what is what is the
essence of yishkite it's really a a
kenyan it's really about acquisition the
word kenyan means acquisition to
acquire acquire one of the first names
that's used for hashem and
isim what does he buys the heaven he
buys the earth who's the
seller means a buyer
Hashem acquires heaven and earth. He
acquires heaven and earth by creating
it. When you create, you have a patent,
right? People create something, they
have a patent. This is
theirs. God has a patent on heaven and
earth. You know why? Because he created
it. If you create something, you can get
a patent on it and make a lot a lot of
money. I know uh a grand a somebody from
the family of the one who invented
pinball machines. You remember the
pinball machines? Yeah. that used to
play and it was a tremendous success and
Ada anytime somebody uses a pinball
machine there's a revenue that comes to
this family member because of that he
came up with this idea the
eld when the Jewish people come out of
Mitzim when they cross the sea they
sing and if you remember over there
there's a very interesting pock about
the Jewish people if you take a Look in
your next
sash this nation that you have you
acquired
[Music]
them. God has five acquisitions in the
world. Heaven and
earth
is one of them is what does it mean? He
has an acquisition of
Israel. There's a mission in
kadusha. The woman is acquired. What
does that mean? It's a form of marriage.
It's basically discussing how marriage
work because marriage is an acquisition.
The husband belongs to the wife. Wife
belongs to the husband. at the end
of I was created to serve my who's my
doesn't mean my buyer referring to
Hashem but he's called not my creator my
kina what does all what does this all
represent it all represents the idea
that
essentially the purpose of creation is
that a person makes a kenyan makna the
person takes themselves
and everything that belongs to them.
Everything that belongs to them. Every
person has themselves and everything
that belongs to them. And I
acknowledge so to
speak. When you do a kenyan, either
you're acquiring it or you're allowing
somebody else to acquire it. It's like
gifting you my house, gifting you my
farm, gifting you my watch, gifting you
my garment. But this is a form of kenyan
of transaction. So when a
person takes their life and his machnet
allows Hashem to acquire it, they give
it to Hashem that's called a and Hashem
then
says what does this mean in
life? Basically at the surface it seems
like you know when you look at things
just externally the natural instinctive
experience of life is to see the person
to see everybody themselves as separate
from infinity as separate from main I'm
alone I'm fragmented maybe I'm even
broken I'm lonely I'm my own little
creature and I make the best out of it
what is the point of avoid hashem to
reveal the truth what's the truth the
truth is you're never alone anoid mulvad
There's nothing outside of the oneness
of infinity, the oneness of Hashem.
Every one of us is part of that. You are
a ray of the sun. The ray is not
separate from the sun. The ray may come
very, very far from the sun. The sun is
very, very far from us. But the ray is
always connected to the sun. The ray is
a continuum of the sun. The ray comes
into our home. It gives us beautiful
light. We're appreciative of it, but we
know that it's always connected. And
every ray projects and radiates the
luminescence and the brightness of the
sun brightness of the sun in its own
unique way. And the rays never compete
with each other. They never get into a
war with each other. Like who are who do
you think you are? Because the rain
trusts that the sun has enough light for
everybody. There's no way you can steal
my light. This doesn't work that way.
There's no way. If I think you could
steal my light, it means I'm not in
touch with my light. I'm in touch with
my darkness.
Huh?
Very good. Your my thunder. Maybe you
could steal, but not my light. And
probably even the thunder I don't think
you could steal. It's an interesting
fact. It's an interesting fact that the
sun produces in two seconds more
electricity than our planet is going to
need for the next 500 years. In two
seconds, the sun produces more
electricity than our planet, our entire
planet is going to need over the next
500 years. And two seconds, not 3
seconds, 2
seconds. So that's even the physical
sun. The rays are not worried about you
got the light. It's infinite light. The
ray is privileged to be able to shine
that light into this home, into this
field. And these rays are responsible
for life. Without it, we couldn't exist.
They besides vitamin D, they give us
heat, they give us energy, they allow
all produce, they allow warmth, they
allow energy, they allow our planet to
support life. If the sun, God forbid,
would decide to go on vacation for a
week. And certainly for a few weeks,
summer is coming till July 4th, I mean
from July 4th, it's kaput. And that's
why we thank every day we
say we're very thankful. Now, this is
even the sun which is a creation. The
sun is a creation. It's an amazing
creation, but it's a creation. When you
think about the creator of the sun. So
you're talking about true infinity.
You're talking about true aip. So the
idea of hashem is to recognize I'm not
alone. I'm not separate. I'm always part
of an I'm always part of the oneness of
hashem. And every moment I have the
ability to live,
breathe, demonstrate and embody this
truth. practical terms it means that my
thoughts, my words and my actions I
am I surrender them I give them over to
Hashem as we say in the song of Sunday.
So this is the idea
of this is a nation that you what does
it mean you them that this is a nation
that lives by the creed that every
moment I have an opportunity to realign
myself with Hashem simply to connect
myself to become part of Hashem's domain
which means my life is part of you it's
part of infinity it's not separate it's
not broken it's not alone it's not
detached I'm not like a little creature
trying to survive in my own shell I am
mock you just like when I give a house
to somebody now it's yours in this case
it's not yours like another person it's
the yours which is everything which is
Hashem's oneness so when we
say the Mishna says in kadushin I was
created to serve my ki my creator my
acquirer what does that really mean it
means that serving Hashem actually is a
form of kenyan it demonstrates that
hashem is my ka literally my ka so just
like I take my house I take my farm I
take my tree. I take my cow. I take my
suit. I take my glasses. I take my
computer. I take my phone and I gift it
to somebody. I give it to you. What just
happened? You acquired what belongs to
me. That's what happened. So whenever a
Jew takes, I take my thoughts. I take my
words. I take my actions. I take my
body. I take my mind. I take my soul. I
take my heart. I take any part of my
life. The words that I'm going to say
are words that I have ownership over. I
can't force you to say anything. That's
your body. But what I'm going to say is
mine, at least to a certain degree. And
I consciously choose to give these words
to Hashem, to give these thoughts to
Hashem, to give these actions to Hashem.
So basically, this is this is the nation
that you acquire.
s I choose to align my life with the
source of all life. The ray to go with
the sun is not a challenge because the
ray doesn't have any other identity. The
ray never says, you know what, I think
I'm separate, but I'm decide I'm going
to acquire myself to the sun. I'm going
to give myself over to the sun. It's
just
natural. But in life, it's not so simple
because our consciousness could go in so
many different directions.
Oh, if this is the purpose of
Yiddishkite. So now let's see that
there's two different ways of doing
this. There's giving Hashem the tree and
there's giving him only the fruits that
are going to grow. It's a very very big
difference. What's the difference? There
is giving the tree to somebody and then
you own the tree. Automatically you own
the fruits. But what am I giving you?
I'm not giving you the fruits. I'm
giving you the tree.
That's one way. It's called kenyan
hagof. You got the thing itself. There's
another way. I don't want to give you my
tree. What do I want to give you? Only
my fruits, but my fruits are not here
yet. So, I give you something in the
future. What does this mean in in life?
What does it mean to give to Hashem your
tree? Adam, a person is like a tree.
What does it mean to give to Hashem the
fruits? What's the difference between a
tree and fruits? The tree is the
essence, the source. A tree has roots. A
tree has a trunk. A tree has branches. A
tree has leaves. And then the tree
produces the flowers and the fruits. The
fruits are the outer production of the
tree that other people can benefit from.
It's fascinating when you know the world
of botany that for what happens to
produce just one fruit is magical.
There's a whole internal mechanism that
most people don't know about. We don't
even see the roots. But when you put in
that plant, that plant itself Yeah. when
it starts opening up and it's literally
like a baby kicking in this womb, right?
Part of the legs kick downwards and
those are the roots and then the legs
kick upwards and those are this this the
the the saplings that start coming out
from on top of the earth and no tree
ever confuses the two. I don't know how
they know it but they figure it out.
They're born with doctorates and in
botany I mean they have so much
information. The roots know exactly what
they needed to get their water and their
nutrients and they develop and develop
and the whole tree and after years and
years and years finally
ah the the fruits are coming the figs
are coming the dates are coming the
kiwis are coming the oranges are coming
the peaches the plums
etc. What is that in a person? We all
have our internal self and we have our
fruits. The fruits are what I produce in
life that other people can enjoy and see
and benefit. By the way, every tree has
a mechanism. When a fruit becomes ripe,
it changes colors. Why is that? It's
almost designed to say, "I'm ready. Come
and join me." Another interesting thing
is when a fruit is ripe, it loosens its
grip. It's much easier. You'll see if
you try pulling off a fruit when it's
not ready. It's a little harder to to
harvest to tear off. When it's ready, it
like loosens up. It's almost like
telling you I'm here for grabs. Come
enjoy me.
Make and enjoy me. It almost changes
colors. It's usually everything is green
and then it becomes so much more
colorful like it become starts dancing.
Now it's time for a relationship with
you. In a person's life, the tree itself
is your internal makeup. That includes
roots that nobody sees. Sometimes you
themselves don't see your roots. Who
sees their roots? The roots includes my
entire subconscious self which is most
of our self. And that's where most
things are happening in the roots.
That's what you got to know. That's the
roots. The roots are invisible. But the
roots are where I come from. What really
motivates me beneath everything. And I
may live my entire life without ever
seeing my
roots. Because you can't see your roots.
They're very, very invisible. That's how
they like it.
They don't like for anybody to see them.
If they start being exposed, they're
like, "No, no, no. This is not for me. I
remain under. But I'm responsible for
everything, but you're not going to see
me." Then we have our trunk. That's more
of our conscious personality, my inner
feelings, my inner emotions, my
attitudes, my perspectives. We have our
branches. We have we leaves. And then we
have our fruits. And these are actually
our words, our actions, the conscious
thoughts that are much more visible and
external that make life on the outside
happens. Your conscious thoughts, your
words, and especially your actions and
your behaviors. Those are the fruits.
And here we have two types of people. We
have those who give Hashem the tree
itself. And we have those who give
Hashem they can give the tree themselves
itself. What do they give? They say,
"I'm ready to give you the fruits."
What's the difference? Giving the tree
itself means the tree is yours.
Automatically, whatever happens is
yours. What does that mean in a person's
life? So, if you'll take a look here,
you have the this
picture. Okay? You see the picture?
Dedicating your entire tree. You see
dedicating your entire tree. In the book
of Tanya, the Balata calls this model
the saddic. Your brain, mind, heart and
body, your animal soul and divine soul
are fused. We all have this in some
parts of our lives. Take a look at this
tree. You see its roots. Here is a Jew
who says, it's not just says, who
experiences life that my entire self is
one with
infinity. The ray experiences itself is
nothing but a channel for the sun.
Sometimes it can even experience itself
the way it's inside the sun. That's like
experiencing yourself the way God
experiences you. In that sense, my
entire life, my mind, my brain, my
heart, my instincts, my
emotions are acquired by Hashem. I'm
yours. I belong to you.
We
say that's a very deep state of
consciousness. It's not he's not
focusing on the fruits. Automatically
the fruits are yours. If the entire
tree, the roots and the trunk and the
stem and the branches and the leaves and
the flowers belong to you. Of course the
fruits belong to you. Of course my
thoughts and my words and my actions
will just stem. They stem from inside.
So if the inside is yours, the outside
is yours. If I sell you a house,
whatever is in the house is
yours. I mean, unless I take out the
furniture, but I'm saying when I sell
you something, whatever it produces, it
produces. Houses don't produce, but
feels produce. So that's one model.
That's one model in life. But then
there's another model. The model is whoa
whoa. I don't have I'm not I can't give
you my whole tree. You know what's
happening inside of me? There's a lot of
messy stuff.
All my instincts are not sacred and
holy. There's shame. There's guilt.
There's anxiety. There's fear. Some
people are dealing
with everybody has internal challenges.
I can't say that every part of me is
perfectly aligned with hashem with
infinity. But you know what? I give you
the fruits. Not the tree. Not maybe
sometimes some parts of the tree I'm
happy to give you. But certainly certain
parts of the tree they're mine. But the
fruits I'm happy to give you. In other
words, I want to make sure that my
behaviors are consistent with your will.
Not my instinctive thoughts cuz that's
internal, but my conscious thoughts, my
conscious words, my conscious deeds.
Let's see the next picture. Dedicating
the fruits. Always changing. No
guarantees. My actions, my words, my
conscious thoughts. It's always a new
struggle as I do not deal with my inner
stuff. I only do the right thing. In the
first picture, I gave you the tree. In
the second picture, I say I'm giving you
the fruits. That can only happen when
the fruits
come. What does this mean? What happens
when the fruits come? You know it says
about So Rashi says told us these are
the children of tell me his children's
name. So
says the offspring of the righteous are
good
deeds right the gmorra
says mitzvah the fruits of a person's
life are the good deeds we do that's
what grows from us that's what people
see that people can enjoy people get
benefit from it it's good deeds that
benefit us but they also benefit
everybody around us so those are the m
so what's the difference between these
two people, the one who surrendered and
dedicated their tree to Hashem and the
one who only dedicated their fruits to
Hashem. So, let's give a few
illustrations. You don't have to raise
your hand whether you're model one or
model two, but internally it's good to
reflect on this. Okay? And it's, by the
way, it's never black and white like I'm
all this or I'm all this. There's
different parts of our lives. In one
dimension I could be this. In one
dimension I could be this. One dimension
my fruit is dedicated. Another dimension
no no not my fruit but my fruits. So
let's say for
example there's a juicy conversation of
gossip or slander. You know one of these
good juicy conversations. It's like the
real stuff. You know the roots the roots
are coming out not just external stuff.
The good juicy stuff. Especially if you
have the misfortune to be on social
media for whatever reason. you
understand this? Or it's around my
Shabbas table or it's just a
conversation with a person, my family or
my friend and so forth. The first Jew,
the first Jew who didn't only give to
Hashem their fruits, they gave the tree.
They're not even interested. It's not
even an it's not even a trial. It's like
the conversation doesn't tempt me. It's
not like a struggle. Should I go into
this conversation? Should I answer?
Should I not answer? Should I watch the
video? Should I get involved in this
conversation around the table? It's like
it's so it would be like asking me to
eat. Forgive me. It would be like asking
me to eat glass, asking me to eat
fertilizer. Asking me to eat you'll
forgive me excrement. Like why would I
do that? I'm going to vomit. Like give
me good food. It's not even tempted
because their self is just refined. I'm
in a pure place. I have clean energy.
I'm not going to engage in this
conversation. It's too it's too dis I
right away feel you know people who are
sensitive they eat certain foods they
get nauseous like why would I eat a food
that's going to get me nauseous just
explain that to me so it's not even a
temptation so here's a classic example
of somebody that their inner character
is extremely is much more refined these
types of conversations simply are not
attractive to me whether it's gossip
whether it's slander whether it's
tailbearing whether it's just idle
unproductive talk and so on and so forth
another example would be saying a lie
saying even a white lie why you late
stuck in traffic of course I'm stuck in
traffic I also left an hour and a half
late right I'm stuck we call it white
lies for some people it's like a
struggle should I say the truth should I
not say the truth should I exaggerate
should I dramatize but that's only if my
tree is not dedicated if my internal
self is divine why would I want to
separate myself from infinity by saying
a lie even a white lie it's so like
would be like telling the ray you know I
think you should detach from the sun for
a few hours. It'll be good. The ray will
say, "What?" You know what happens when
I detach from the
sun? So for such a person, it's I'm not
should I lie? Should I not lie? Should I
lie to her why I couldn't come to the I
had a flu. I had a virus. I had to go to
the hospital. I almost had a stroke. I
thought I
died. Or whatever it is. This person is
not even tempted to exaggerate, not even
tempted to lie. It's like
it's Yeah. I'll give an example that I
often give with food, right? Some
people, they see horrible food and it
speaks to
them. Other people, it's like it's not
even a thought. I don't struggle with
this. I may have other struggles. This
it's like my internal system just does
not want it. It's not a struggle for me.
I'm not that person. I I'm still in the
struggling front. No, in reality, I may
not eat it. I may not eat it. I may tell
God, "Okay, I'm giving you the fruit,
but the struggle is there. I want to eat
it." The same is true with other
people's dependence on things that they
know are unproductive. For some people,
it's simply not an issue. There are
people, they're going to be on their
phone for productive purposes, but there
are people who struggle. They could be
on their phone for three hours straight
and not because they're buying clothes
for all of the kind for the
bitzvah which can take you six hours. I
know
that. Right. It can even be an
addiction. The same is true with with
things that are very unproductive.
Sometimes even immoral for some people.
It's you want me now to waste 3 hours of
my having an opportunity to serve Hashem
and be a channel for infinite oneness
and degrade myself?
degrade myself with this. It's it's just
it's not it's it's not it's not even
it's not even an
issal
relationships.
Okay. Your spouse tells you
something for the men listening or going
to listen. We'll do one example for the
women another example. My wife tells me
something or anybody's wife tells them
something or a husband as is usually the
case. A wife knows her husband very very
well. knows how to push the right
buttons. God gave each person their
soulmate in the sense how do you know
how do you know I told you once how do
you know that it's the right side last
week I think how do you know it's your
soulmate nobody can trigger you as well
as this person that's how you know it's
Bashar this is mama's godly design from
all the people in the world you ended up
with that person who knows how to
trigger the living daylights out of you
God bless him God bless her God bless
you and my wife says or somebody's wife
or anybody's spouse says something and
maybe it's sharp, it's
intense, it's uh you could call it, you
know, real muser. It's challenging. It's
really challenging. What's the reaction
of people? Or take your child. You have
a struggling child, a teenage child, a
young child, an older child. They make a
comment to mommy or Tati and it's not an
easy comment to
digest. two two what's the difference of
somebody who gave over their tree and
somebody who did not yet give over their
tree somebody who gave over their tree
how do they hear it how do they hear it
my wife told me something very very
sharp okay what's the reaction of
somebody whose tree belongs to God their
self their emotions are part of Hashem
first thing is your confidence does not
come from the fact that your wife is
complimenting you
24/7 you
So you have unshakable inner confidence
and value even if somebody's criticizing
you. That's number one. So you don't
fall apart. People who don't have an
internal self, they need their spouse to
compliment them 24/7. The moment their
wife is in a bad mood or stressed and
she
can't. The guy is a basket case. Nobody
there.
Why? He never learned about himself. But
when your tree belongs to Hashem, you
know your deepest emotion is that you're
part of God. You're fine. You're really,
you're good. You're in a good space.
Now, your spouse told you something very
sharp. So, you can actually empathize
with what she's going through. Wow,
she's going through what she has a
difficult emotion. Maybe it's even true
what she's saying. Maybe actually I
could be introspective. This is an
opportunity for my growth. Even if it's
not true or it's exaggerated, but wow,
there's there's there's something
painful here going on. Maybe there's a
fear. Maybe somebody was triggered.
Maybe it's an old template. Maybe it's
something she has to work through or my
husband has to work through. I can
actually empathize rather than fall
apart, become obnoxious, go into fight
or flight or freeze or fawn, which is
all a defense mechanism because I became
a little scared baby. This child of mine
tells me something that may be
difficult. If I am a person who saw
whose tree is dedicated, so then my
inner emotions can respond from a place
of empathy. Wow, what is this girl
experiencing? What is this girl going
through? I don't have to respond. You're
such a spoiled, self-centered,
narcissistic kid. You know what I did
for you? I'm taking you to therapy since
you're one week. You owe me $700,000 in
therapy costs just for you.
You have destroyed this family and you
continue to. You are so cafa. Nobody
ever taught you about your father and
mother haven't slept in 19 and a half
years even before you were
born. What just happened? What just
happened is the girl who may be 17 is
talking to her father who just turned
two. I am completely disregulated. I am
overwhelmed. I am
anxious. Why? She knew what to do. She
triggered my own wounds. Maybe that I'm
an unsuccessful father. Maybe that deep
down I feel shame. Whatever it is, my
internal emotions are very, very
difficult. And therefore, I can't be
there for this person. I'm completely
overwhelmed. But the other person whose
tree is divine, they say, "Wow, she's
hurting. What can I now do to be more
connected? What can I do to create more
attachment, more connection?" Now what
she may be saying may be right, may be
wrong, maybe 50% right, maybe 100%
wrong. But the question is not if she's
right or wrong. The question is, I am
fine. I am regulated. I love you. My
heart stays open. And now the question
is, how can I be here for you? The same
is true with spouses. One of the things
is when a spouse criticises another
spouse, can my heart stay open or no, I
have to close my heart, get upset, and
even if I don't explode, I implode
because my tree is
internally detached still. So, here are
very real differences between the two
models. Now, in reality, even if my tree
is not divine, my fruits may be divine.
I tell God, you know what? I'm going to
say the right thing. I'm exploding
inside. I want to tell her, "Get out of
this house. Get out of this house. Get
out of my life." Right? Sometimes in
relationships, your spouse may tell you
something and they may have an eruption,
a volcano from Nicaragua erupting in
your heart and you're like, "Get me to
China for
like 9 years or 9 months or 9 hours.
Call me when you become normal. Call me
back. I'll fly back from China. I'll pay
for the ticket." But I'm going to say,
"You know what, God? I'm giving you the
fruits. My words are going to be nice.
My actions are going to be
nice. In one, my internal self is
transformed. In the other, my internal
self gets very messy and erupted. But I
learn
self-control. I'm a soldier. I do the
right thing. How many people internally
they feel anxious, overwhelmed,
exhausted. Every part of my body wants
to scream.
And yet I smile. Hello. How is
life? I'm
fine. Really? And how are the kids?
Amazing age. We're working on it.
Yeah. You look like you have a little
anxiety. Me? No. Barakashem. Things are
perfect.
And internal I feel such a I'm I'm blah.
I'm numb. I'm not saying the truth. I'm
not authentic. And I may do this not
only with other people, even with
myself. There is such a dissonance
between I want to be a good girl. I want
to be a good boy. I was taught we have a
we have a god. We have midvice. We have
derets. We have a carat. You're in a
you're like somebody once said, nobody
cares about your emotions.
There's parents who educated their
children that way. Nobody cares about
your emotions. What matters are your
actions. I don't care if your tree has a
virus. I don't care if your tree has
bacteria. I don't care if your tree has
an infection. I want to see those
fruits. The fruits count. Show up. Be a
woman. Be a
man. That's the
contrast. What's the difference? The
difference is when I only know about my
fruits, not about my tree. When I only
deal with the fruits, I can only deal
with the moment right now. I cannot deal
with the
future. There's no guarantee for the
future. Why? Because the fruits are not
here. Every the next time tomorrow when
I erupt, I don't know what's going to
happen. I hope I'm going to surrender my
fruits again. And that's the difference
between the two types of acquisitions.
When I give over the tree, the future is
guaranteed. When I could only give the
fruits because I don't have anything in
reality, there's nothing here. I'm not
dealing with what I have. I'm only
dealing with what's going to come up. So
when it comes up, I have a
guarantee. But the
internal anxiety I didn't deal with.
That's why what happens so often in life
is people make and I'm never a guy tells
me I made I'm never going to scream
again at my kids. I'm never going to
scream again at my wife. And he means it
and he's crying. It's I kipper. He went
to Miran. He went to the he went to he
went to Ker. He went to um whatever. And
he made kabulis and he was crying. I'm
never going to look at these things on
my internet. I'm not going to a
computer. I'm never going to go here.
I'm never going to do this. And he means
it. The guy is a good guy. I know him.
And a week later, he comes
home. Boom. Boom.
Question. How do you actually saying
dedicate your life and your full energy.
Good question. What happened? What
happened is not that he's a hypocrite.
He's not a hypocrite. What happens is he
never dealt with his tree. No, my
question to you is you're saying
I didn't finish. I I know what you're
asking. Give me a few
minutes. What's the issue here? The
issue here is nobody ever taught him how
to go inside. He never dealt with his
insides in a real way.
He's only dealing with fruits. He's
trying to be a soldier. Try to control
yourself and do the right thing and say
the right thing. The problem is we're
not machines. We have a lot of internal
emotions. When he was in that space and
he made a Gavaldica resolution, he meant
it. He had his he had an inspiration and
he meant it. But now when he comes home
and his teenage girl or boy made that
comment or his spouse, his wife made
that comment or his trigger or his
brother, his sister, sister-in-law,
friend, his neighbor, his partner, his
rabbi, whatever it
is, what happened was his physiological
fear, his physiological, psycholog or
psychological wounds or both of them
have erupted. There's a volcano inside
of you. You got a lot of wounds you
never dealt
with. Your tree is messy. There's a lot
of viruses there. So the fruits the
fruits the fruits the fruits at some
point the fruits are coming from
somewhere if I don't deal with the inner
tree the fruits are also going to be
affected by
it but this seems like an impossible
situation because how many people can
take their entire tree and give it to
God and say all my emotions like you're
asking what does that mean that's a
sadic and here we come to the
revolutionary idea behind
Kanya and this is the third type of
transaction the tree for the fruits. So
you see the three models we had. The
first model was you give away your tree
that's
like that's not possible for every
person at least not all the time with
all parts of myself. It's not even what
says it's not even what God wants for
most people. There's the other model. I
only deal with fruits. I don't deal with
the tree. I show up. I do the right
thing. And sometimes for many
generations people have done it and they
did amazing amazing things. But
ultimately there's no guarantee for that
because I am not in the picture. It's
like selling you something that doesn't
exist. I can't give it over to God.
There's no consistency in my life.
There's no calmness in my life. And you
see people tak erupt at a moment and
everything they learned, everything they
decided, it all goes out the window.
There's people, they come to a class,
they're inspired, they go home, they
think their anxiety will be gone
forever. An hour later, you get a text.
Boom. overwhelm, fear, anxiety,
mistrust.
Whoa. And here we come to the third
model. This is the precious model that
the Tanya introduces. I can sell you the
whole tree. I don't only want to sell
you the fruits. I want to gift you or
sell you the tree for the fruits.
If you look at the third
image, dedicating the tree for the
fruits, the bayon of Tanya, your inner
energy is so clear. You know the
struggle so well. You have so much bliss
with your divine soul. You just never
allow your animal soul control over the
fuse producing behavior, thoughts,
words, and
actions. And let's explain very briefly
what this means.
The key of the Tanya is and those who go
to my wife's Tanya classes at MAL your
foyer's home 49 Linkrest every other
Monday know this and it's an amazing
class I hear the recordings so if you
there you'll know what I'm talking about
if not I'm going to give you a very
brief concise synopsis we all operate on
two levels of consciousness at least
we're not made up of one part we're made
up of many parts the two most basic
parts is we have a divine soul we have
an animal soul the animal soul soul is
not bad. It's just an animal like a
puppy, like a cute little elephant, like
a cute little turtle or like a cute
little reptile, like a cute little
chimpanzeee or big one. Depends on what
type of animal or a sheep or a goat or
an ox. The nephew Bahamas is animal
consciousness. It's not bad. It's just
focused on one thing, survival. It wants
to survive and be comfortable. That's
its job. It lives in the blood. It lives
in my physical body and it keeps us
alive. It regulates our physical
temperature. It's responsible for our
urinary system, our digestive system,
our circulatory system, and all of the
other biological systems that we have in
our body. It's called nephesh, habaser,
badami. That's our animal consciousness.
Because my animal consciousness is
focused on survival, it will also
develop so many different instincts and
drives and
emotions that will contribute to
survival. And many thoughts and words
and actions will stem from my animal
soul. So for example, if I develop a
certain anxiety around people, it's my
animal soul being very very vigilant. My
animal soul has learned very early on
people are dangerous. Authentic
relationships are dangerous. You see a
person get vigilant, get nervous, stay
alert. This is a coping mechanism. In
fact, it may have saved their life very
early on or at least may have avoided
pain. Right? If I have an issue staying
present emotionally, my wife tells me
something difficult and I run away
emotionally. I can't deal with it. I
shut down or I get aggressive or I get
angry. I can't be there. I can't stay
with an open heart. What just happened?
My animal soul just got scared of
emotions. If I learned early on, like I
spoke last week, that to stay
emotionally present is going to be too
painful, I create a coping mechanism,
and that is I don't go there. I'm shut
down. I become a shell of myself. I'm
good with my brain. I know how to talk.
I know how to navigate life. I almost
copy people in order to know what to do
because I don't feel. That's a coping
mechanism of the animal soul. If I find
myself always lying, dramatizing, white
lies, my animal soul is coping. It's
afraid of the truth. If I'm very upfront
with people, if I'm upfront with people,
you're not going to like me. I'm not
going to be popular. You're going to
think I'm narcissistic. I don't know.
It's much better to get my wife, my I
manipulate life through not saying the
truth. My child tells me something and
it's really challenging for me. It's
very hard for me. My animal soldiers got
wounded. I thought I was a great father.
I was like God's gift to humanity. I
gave my kids everything. I looked in the
mirror and I said, "Wow, I'm a good
guy." And suddenly your 18-year-old has
a very different opinion about
you, right? Wow. Wow. Wow. You just
destroyed everything I built for 52
years. Frask. Fras. Fras. Fras. Frasque.
Now today you don't do a frasque. But
you do a fraskque inside. You know what
a frask is everybody? You don't know.
Better that way. It's called a patch. A
patch. So there's a physical patch and
there's an emotional patch.
Yeah. Oh, you know what an emotional
patch is. Okay. Yeah. You see this,
right?
Who? Here is the issue. So we have three
models in life. The sadic is the person
who transformed their animal soul. That
the animal soul and the divine soul are
like partners. That's amazing. In other
words, the whole tree is godly. So now
my wife may say something difficult to
me. My trigger is the divine soul's
trigger. And how does divine soul get
triggered? First of all, I'm good. I'm
one with God. Second of all, wow, you're
going through something. Let me try to
be here for you. That's it. Boom. Sounds
easy, right? But my divine soul and
animal soul still struggle with each
other. They're not fully at peace. Some
of us never reach it. The alterba says
in Tanya, it's not even the purpose of
God for most
people. So what is it? It's just fruit
by fruit by fruit. No, the power what he
calls of the bayon is somebody who
dedicates to Hashem the tree for the
fruits not the tree itself I can't I'm
not a sadic but I go much deeper than
the fruits and here is the threestep
program of the bayon to answer your
question program number step number one
listen carefully the bayon is the person
who's very well aware of what's
happening inside I know my animal soul
very well without shame
I don't have to repress it. I can be
aware of it. I could look at it. I can
hold
it. I can hold it. I can experience
everything my animal soul is doing. So
this child said something and I was
triggered. I can watch my triggers. My
wife told me something. My husband said
something. I'm so triggered. I can watch
it. I could see it. I can have empathy
for it. I could say, "Wow, Rabbi
Y, your wound just got very triggered.
Wow. Give it a little love. Give it a
little love. Your puppy is frightened.
The Shabbas is happening tonight. I have
a lot of guests for Shabas. I didn't
even go shopping. Oh my god. I'm
overwhelmed. Anxiety. Anxiety. Anxiety.
If my tree was dedicated to God, the
regulation would be there. I'm in God's
world. I'm a ray of the sun. It's going
to be all right. But I'm not there. My
animal soul is scared. 20 guests are
coming tonight. What are they going to
think of me? I was always taught you got
to be a
balabusta. Comes to the house. The house
has to be clean. Anybody suffers from
that? Yes. Okay. Everybody. Not
everybody, but a lot. Not
everybody. My mother told me we are not
frivolous people. The house rain and
clean. My animal soul is very very
scared. And the same is true with
another million scenarios in life. The
bayon is somebody who can be very well
aware of everything. Watch it. Hold the
space for it. Have compassion for it.
Breathe into it. Literally breathe into
it. Give it love. Like a child throwing
a tantrum or a puppy throwing a tantrum.
More accurately. Hold the puppy. Say,
"Mommy is here. You're going to be all
right. You're going to be all right.
You're going to be all right." The bayon
also knows about their divine
soul. They know that the divine soul is
actually in a very, very beautiful space
24/7. It's in God's world. It's part of
Hashem. It's a mamish. They're very
well. The divine soul is not afraid of
relationships. Divine soul is not afraid
of presence. The divine soul doesn't
have to shut down. The divine soul
doesn't have to run. The divine soul is
full of love and empathy and internal
confidence. It's curious. It's
compassionate. It's
creative. It's also has an inner
calmness and serenity and confidence.
It's full of trust and faith and love.
It has no ego because it doesn't have to
have an ego to exist because it really
exists. It also doesn't live in shame
and guilt, shaming myself. I'm so bad.
I'm so evil. I'm so this. It's actually
beautiful, clean energy straight from
Hashem. The Benon knows both
sides. That's number two. Number three,
every single day this Jew spends time
aligning themselves with their divine
soul because it's every day aid.
Naturally, if I just leave myself to my
own devices, my animal soul takes over.
Every day the bayon dedicates time, this
is an to be able to realign myself with
my divine soul, which is
work. It's work. First of all, it's
physical work to be able to remain in a
place of alignment and discipline,
right? It's what I eat. It's it's it's
how I take care of my body, how I take
care of my nut, of my nutrition, how I
take care of myself. And then the key is
spending whatever it is, every person in
their own way some time. Sometimes it's
a lot of time, sometimes it's less time
to be able to realign myself with my
divine soul. And I need to calm down my
animal soul. I have to say, "You're
good. You're fine. You're fine. I know
your
wounds." And this is really the function
of davining. The function of davining is
not just saying words. It's a meditative
process that includes connectivity,
sometimes breathing, internal awareness,
opening myself up to everything that's
happening inside and then telling my
animal soul, "And now let's be regulated
and open ourselves up to the divine
soul." And I do this every single day.
What happens now? What happens now is
let's go back to all the scenarios. My
wife may tell the same comment. My child
may make the comment. My husband may
make the comment. There may be the lash
conversation. There may be the
conversation. I may be in sh and there's
a juicy conversations in the middle of
dining. And I may not be a sadic who's
like, "No, I'm not going into that
conversation." I may get triggered and I
feel my animal soul's triggers and I
want to shut down. I want to fight back.
I want to freeze. I become disregulated.
And I get it. Part of my tree has not
been divine. Has not become divine.
However, because I am so aware of my
animal soul and I'm also aware of my
divine soul and I'm aware and every day
I do the work to maintain that awareness
and to connect with my divine soul. It
is so obvious to me that I'm not going
to allow my thoughts, conscious
thoughts, not instinct, instinctive
thoughts we don't have control over, but
my conscious thoughts, words and actions
to take me away from that space of
oneness. This is what it means. I give
to Hashem the tree for the
fruits. There is a very deep calmness in
the person
knowing how they're going to respond
tomorrow and the next week and a year
from now. As long as I know how to
maintain this state. Of course, nobody
has guarantees for sure, but as long as
I can maintain this state of mind and
consciousness and life, I can sell the
fruits today that are going to grow next
year. How? I didn't give you the tree. I
gave you the tree for the
fruits. I know so well my system. I know
that my animal soul cannot have control
over the part of me that produces
thoughts, words, and actions. It has
control over a lot of emotions and there
could be very messy. But when it comes
to the fruits, my divine soul has full
control because it's so obvious to me
the difference between dead energy and
living energy. And this is the key. This
is where experience is so important.
When I live only with my animal soul's
fears and coping mechanisms, I'm living
in fake and dead energy because it's all
based on fear. It's just coping. I'm
just trying to survive. I want you to
like me. I want to impress everybody.
When I finish the class, I want to get
an applause. I want people to come and
say, "Wow, that was the best class I
ever heard in my life. I think you
changed my life for eternity." And then
for six seconds, I could feel good until
the next criticism. And then I wait for
the next compliment. Whatever it is in a
person's life, when I'm living only in
my coping mechanisms of fear, I'm just
always responding. It's like empty
energy. It's it's actually nauseiating
energy cuz it's not real. The divine
soul is energetically alive cuz the sun
is shining. It's a beautiful, beautiful
energy. It's real. It's divine. It's MS.
It's authentic. You could surrender into
it. The bayon has such a clear
understanding of these two different
types of energies that I may be erupted
like a volcano. I may be overwhelmed in
my eruption. A part of me wants to say,
"Run for the
hills. Fight, flight, freeze, fall,
please, whatever it is." And I could
stop and say, "Yeah, wow. Wow. There's a
part of the tree that's really not
divine." Exactly. And there may be so
much shame over there and so much guilt
over there and I need to be able to
process it. But because I deal with
myself, I know who I am. I have an
awareness of my internal makeup. I
didn't shut down. I know my animal soul.
And I am also not embarrassed that I
have an animal soul. One of the worst
things that happens is the shame that I
have an animal soul. It's like I'm not
allowed to. That's not true. You were
created with an animal soul. There are
sadikim who managed to transform their
animal soul. And it's amazing. And the
alterb says each of us has some of
those. We have parts that we transform,
but we may have parts that were not
transformed. And I may transform one
part and God says, "Okay, you're done.
Tomorrow I'm going to give you another
part that you didn't transform yet." And
people wonder what happened. I was doing
amazing. You were doing amazing. So now
it's time to give you some heavier
weights so you can go. You're ready for
the next marathon, right? And people
say, "No, it means I'm a loser." You're
not a loser. Amazing. You were
successful at the marathon. Now there's
another part of the animal soul that
needs to be dealt with. Maybe you'll
transform it. Maybe not. But the guilt
and the shame around the fact that
there's so much messiness in me is
completely eliminated in the Tanya.
People can be real. I don't have to
amputate any part of me. I don't have to
be embarrassed with any part of me. I
was deting this shabas morning in shu
and before dving I was learning
something from the alterba which is very
very inspiring and he speaks about these
aspects and suddenly I don't know how it
happened but I started to experience
something that I did in my life years
ago and it was a bad mistake it was a
mistake I did and it was coming from my
own trauma to be frank and I just
experienced in a very visceral way the
shame of that action literally the shame
of action it's like my divine soul was
experiencing the pain of the shame. And
I literally I I I just I started to cry
and I turned to my animal soul and I
said, "I am so sorry that your coping
mechanism had to be such that this is
what you felt you had to do in order to
get the validation that you need. I am
so sorry for you that this is what you
had to do." And I could literally
experience the shame of the divine soul
in that and really look at the animal
soul and process it and cry with it.
It's a very authentic process that
everybody in their own way has until
we're completely transformed. And we're
not completely transformed. And when we
can really do that, it's such an
authentic way of living because it's
fresh. It's real. If you tell a person
if you don't give away your whole tree
to Hashem, you're a you're a garnished.
You're a loser. It's not a transaction.
You don't that's not the case. That's
safer. It's a galdic and there are in
generation there are sadikim whose
animal souls are completely transformed.
Their trigger is a divine trigger
always. But for the regular person the
bony it's not just when the fruit comes
you'll give away the fruit and
internally I remain a mess. There's a
relationship with the internal self with
all the parts. You could live at peace
with yourself because you understand
that what it means to give everything to
Hashem is not the whole tree. It's
elong. That's powerful. It's powerful.
That's a real real Kenyon. That's the
bayanese kenyan that I have so much
internal awareness of what's happening
to the point that I have that control
and that inner discipline and
blissfulness that even even if I'm
complex and a lot of things are coming
up I can still choose that my reactions
in thoughts words and behaviors and
actions are going to reflect the pure
energy of the divine soul. Not because
there was nothing else going on. There
are other things going on, but this is
what it means to give over the tree for
the fruits. The tree itself has viruses.
The tree itself still needs work. At
least some parts of it. Some parts are
transformed, some parts are not. But
there's one aspect of the tree that I
have such a powerful relationship with,
and that's its reproductive power.
Meaning, what's going to come out? What
am how am I going to respond to my wife?
How am I going to respond to my
children? How am I going to respond to
my husband? How am I going to respond to
my neighbor, my sibling, my my friend,
my partner? How am I going to respond to
this conversation, to this emotion, to
this anxiety, to this frustration, to
this temptation, to this addiction? How
am I going to respond? I have so much
experience with my animal souls, with my
divine soul, and with constantly
aligning myself and knowing the
distinction that I know that the part
that's responsible for thoughts, words,
and action, this I want only my divine
soul to have this belongs to God because
I've tried the other way. And what
happened? It put me into dead energy,
fake energy, fearful energy, coping
mechanism energy, survival energy, not
authentic and real energy. So therefore,
now if you look in the final pictures
here, you see you see you have three
models. Dedicating your entire tree,
that's the sadic. The whole tree is
divine. Dedicating the fruits, I don't
deal with myself. This is the model. I
don't care what you're feeling. Do do do
do do do do do do do do do do do do do
do do do do until either you collapse
from exhaustion you become an angry
resentful person and you're just doing
doing doing only deal with fruits my
tree is far virus I don't care about it
fruits fruits fruits but there's nothing
predictable there's no guarantees
there's no relationship everything is on
the external so yeah maybe right now
I'll I'll sell the fruits to God maybe
yeah maybe not and even Even if I always
manage to sell the fruits to God when
they come into existence, I don't know
about tomorrow because I don't have
peace in myself. It's sad. It's sad
sometimes for people who thought avoid
hashem means that all of you is
fixed and then they make these
resolutions and they mean well and they
learn they go to shim and they hear and
everything and they give sodak and they
do and then in a moment of truth they
just lose it again. say what's so wrong
and they guilt themselves into more
shame, more shame, more shame, more
shame. What's the challenge? The
challenge is that people don't realize a
hashem means not to make be ashamed of
any part of yourself. Have a
relationship with all your parts. Be
open to all your
parts. Don't deny the fact that there
are parts of your tree, parts of your
inner self that are still very wounded.
Good morning, America. We have wounds.
Yes. Childhood wounds, adult wounds,
nature,
nurture. Most of them probably not even
maybe not even conscious stuff. And the
more I could look at that, I say, "Wow,
what is my realm of choice?" My realm of
choice is not to transform my character
completely. I can't. It would be great
that I'm never triggered again in my
life. It's just not going to
happen. even though my wife deserves
such a husband but I don't know that
it's going to happen that I'll never
ever ever ever be triggered again in my
life. I mean fine if God wants me to
become a
fine it's a tall order but that's not
the that's not
the is
that on the contrary I have that
internal mechanism and calmness and
connection to be able to know how to go
into regulation and serenity even when
there are all these even volcanic
psychological
eruptions in a person's But only because
I know my animal
soul without crazy shame. Because I know
and experience my divine soul. So I know
the difference. I could choose. If I
never experienced them, I can choose.
And three, every day I know I need a
schedule and a routine that gives me the
mental ability and resources to
reconnect with my divine soul
experientially to feel it. That's what a
hashem means. Where I realize that what
my heart is looking for is not
attention. It's not distractions. It's
not this comfort or that comfort. What
I'm really looking is I'm looking to
love truth, to love my real self, which
is to love Hashem. Then my heart is
open. I want to be present. I want to be
alive. I want to live a life of
connection and attachment. Do all parts
of me want that all the time? Of course
not.
But I know that so well. I experience it
so
well. That's the third type of
the where there is a guarantee for the
future. Where there is a calmness, where
there is a
serenity. So that's what you'll see in
the third one. You dedicate the tree for
the fruits. Now look at the picture on
the right. A person is made up of parts.
That's fine. Look, you're a jigsaw
puzzle. Some pieces in the jigsaw puzzle
are out of sync.
Okay, that's what happens. Yes, I just
felt something. I'm overwhelmed. I may
be anxious. I'm afraid. I'm terrified.
Okay, you're made up of parts. Yeah, I'm
not giving you the whole tree. God, I
can give you now the whole tree. I don't
know how. I don't know how. I'm scared.
You don't have That's fine. You don't
have to sell the whole tree. But you
always have control over your fruits.
Not by repressing, not by suppressing,
not by guilting, not by shaming, not by
telling yourself, "I don't care about
your tree. I don't care about your
feelings." Stop being this spoiled
American brat. Me, me, me, me, me, my
feelings, feelings, feelings. Feelings,
feelings, therapy. Feelings, trauma,
trauma, trauma, trauma, trauma. And now
you spoiled brats. Nobody had trauma 100
years ago. Yeah. Everybody said,
"Trauma, trauma, trauma. I lost my
keys." Trauma. I missed the fly.
Trauma. Enough trauma. Show up and be a
be a person. I said just be like
everybody. I'm talking about this
internal voice. Anybody relates to this?
I see some of you are
smiling. What happens right after that?
We just learned to shut down. When my
kid now comes into the dining room, he's
not feeling my love. I shut down. I may
be showing up. And we're very good at
that. Let's face it. We make sure
there's breakfast and lunch and supper
in the house. There's clean laundry. The
house is clean. Shabas is put together.
Yumpt is put together. What else do you
want? But let's face it, the greatest
gift we can give our loved ones is our
heart. The greatest
gift. My wife sent me yesterday a clip.
Wow. I have to read it to you. I wasn't
planning, but it just came into my head.
What a gift to see. Somebody read it at
her Tanya class. M her hostess. Don't
push Hashem into your children's hearts.
Bring your child into your heart. And if
Hashem is in your heart, they will find
him there.
Don't push Hashem into your children's
hearts. Bring your child into your
heart. And if Hashem is in your heart,
they will find him there.
This I can't fake. I could tell my kid,
make
say, okay, they're they're young.
They'll listen to me. I can even say it
with a
smile. But if they're feeling my own
stress, my own disregulation, my own
lack of tug of sim, they know that
Hashem is associated with that. Even if
I don't say and I'm trying to do the
right thing, nobody is. Everybody's
trying to do the right thing. But if I
can have my heart open, bring them into
my heart. And if my heart is in a real
relationship with Hashem, don't worry.
They're in your heart. They're going to
find God right there. They will see your
nephew kiss. And it will change them
forever by osmosis, by that presence.
So in that
sense there's absolutely no element of
cutting out that inner awareness. We're
afraid if people are going to start
feeling they're going to do the wrong
thing. No. If they start feeling they'll
actually be able to know the difference
of their animal soul and their divine
soul and then they could choose which
feeling is going to dictate my behavior.
Do I have a feeling that I want to run
away from this house? Maybe. Should that
dictate my behavior? Is that going to
help my marriage? Is that going to help
my children? Is that what I really,
really want? Is that what I really want?
Disconnection, anger, resentment,
frustration, deceptiveness. Is that
really me? Is that really going to bring
me to life? Is that going to resurrect
me? No. Okay. So, right now I'm
overwhelmed. Okay. So, you're
overwhelmed. So, give that part of the
tree a little love. And then say, "Okay,
now let's produce the fruits we got to
produce." And this is that powerful
powerful idea of safer shenan. It's not
the safer of the saddic. It's also not
the safer of the Russia which is really
the weak person who doesn't have this
mechanism to be able to remain focused
on who they really are. It's the Bayony,
that possible man, the possible woman,
the intermediary person. What does it
mean intermediary? Parts of my tree
remain unresolved. And yet, at every
moment, I have that inner capacity to
know how I'm capable of living right
here, right now, but without denying and
ignoring any part of me. And that's why
if you see the last line of the source
sheet, you see that that last picture,
I'm made up of parts. And because I'm
made up of parts, I know the parts so
well. I could look at what is
responsible for producing that flow of
thoughts, of words, of actions, and
there could be a seamless flow. I can
look at it and then choose not to
transform and be transformed, but to be
able to think actively and speak
actively and do actively those types of
things that will bring me back into
flow, that will bring me back into
oneness. Even though there's parts that
are still defiant and
rebellious describes the time of Msiah
it's
the last
line that day God is going to
add to acquire the rest of his nation
meaning the physically means from all
over the world they'll be acquired and
brought to our eternal homeland. On a
spiritual level, it means that what is
gul is that the is
complete? All the parts of the people,
all the parts we all have in every one
of us. There's so many parts. All the
different parts will be they will all be
they will all be acquired. They will all
become part of that eternal frequency of
oneness. Have a beautiful
week. Huh?
Sometimes you need also cleaning help.
Sometimes you need a nap. Sometimes you
need to eat. Sometimes you need to
relax. Let's not forget that.
Got it.
That's true. That's true. So there's a
deeper layer. We didn't get to that. And
that is that ultimately every part of
the animal soul can be transformed.
Every part can be transformed.
Yeah, that it becomes one with an effic.
So, usually there are parts of our
animal soul that we transform. But the
point is that even when there are parts
that we didn't transform yet, we can
still have a relationship with them with
compassion and empathy.
They're they're part of my creation. I
don't have to be embarrassed that I have
it. I don't The very shame of this
struggle is God's plan. It's not my
plan. And with with with real work and
inner awareness we can transform every
part of our animal
soul. But we shouldn't think that if
there's parts that are not transformed
huh
in the truest truest level it's all part
of that oneness. Right? But the way the
animal soul manifests itself it can
often take me away from that oneness.
So, I really have to be able to
unbburden it and disentangle it from its
inshment with things that it thinks are
helping it cope, but are really taking
it away from what it really, really,
really wants.
You have to align it. Yeah, we get to
align it. We get to align it better than
you have to. We get to align it by
really appreciating it. What what is
behind it? But the point here is that it
may still erupt and there's no guilt
around the fact that not everything is
transformed. You get it?
Of course, this model with a model for
every
relationship, even with our closest
people, there may be parts of me that
are running away. There may be parts of
me that are too ashamed. There may be
parts of me that are too
overwhelmed. And I could be present for
that without denying, without
suppression. And yet I could show up to
a relationship with my authenticity. Not
by making a fake smile, forging my
energy and amputating anything that's
making me uncomfortable so that I could
show up. Showing up does not mean
inauthenticity. That's the point.
Yes. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for
coming. Thank you for coming. I woke up
early this morning to finish a paper on
vulnerability and I see why I didn't
finish it this morning. I have to be
here. Thank you so much. So, yeah, it's
true about all relationships. It's a
model. This is a model. Can my whole
tree be, you know, completely one? Yeah.
But no, sometimes, yeah. Did I answer
your question? Um, I'm in the process.
Okay.
Oh, okay.
