[clears throat]
Are you ready?
>> Kim, you ready?
>> Okay.
This week's par.
We learn about the life of Abramovu.
Continuing the legacy of Abrainu
and the delves in to two parts
of the life of Abrainu. We see again the
gabaldic of
the first part of the para deals with
the surah as
he buys the plat
and there's an interesting medish the
medish says
And the the each part of the P and the P
says
as follows [clears throat]
those that chase after
you say of the people that chase
they find life of a So on the word
the ised
buried.
And the question is when we look at the
life of Abraino the
Abra was a whole entire life of
servicing or and all the did. This is
how the view used the
that he buried. Senu
what does the medish mean he was the
because he buried s
that's one question another question I'd
like to ask is that further on in the
par we see when goes to find a fork
he has one tonight one contingency that
the girl must be aid she must be
as a matter of fact he goes to the
family, his family. He goes to
and he must find that this girl has to
be aid and the show is why why
and not only that he comes to the house
of and he comes to the house of which
they were
they were [clears throat] and instead he
wants to do a of a family that attends
church attends
that he's fine with as whom is that
this question is already asked by the
Rani asked the question in Josh and the
Ran says the reason for that is is
because if somebody has a beard
character trait a mid that goes be from
one door to the next door
if somebody's a and they do big but
their children can grow up they can go
to they can go to they can go to
seminary and they can learn their own
path in life. But still we see that it
was so important for was so important
for it was so important for to find that
the compatible
the girl must be
>> saying are what passed down.
>> Midas is what passes down. Very good.
Good point. And we see that as well
invoy
are ostracized from Israel.
They can never ever come into CL. Even
if the great great great great great
grandchildren want to become Gim they
can never ever come and the says why not
cuz when is passing by their border they
didn't come out they didn't they didn't
greet Israel with water and bread
>> also shs
>> yeah who killed him
>> okay
>> from coming into as well
>> right so this the Torah says a reason
And says cuz they should have had a
to
because went and he saved
was his grandchildren
and they should have gone out and had
the
to his grandchildren and they lacked
that mida. Therefore they can never ever
come
Israel the ostracize Israel. So we see
that the mid of like you made a very
good point goes goes
but let's focus on this mid this quality
of what is this mid of so let's [snorts]
go back to last week's para let's go
back just for a moment
is recuperating from
and he feels very bad that he can't be
bach
and helps him out he he keeps the Hey,
there's a sun, there's a heat wave,
nobody's coming. And feels very very
bad. He feels terrible. To the point
that he's mish, he's he's down. He's
balic.
So what does do he sends? And he sends
the come and is come by the tent of
andab tells listen I got to go greet the
I got to go greet the
bigger isnosis
from actually having a giggling of
now the very very a couple very simple
questions. I know we're asking a lot of
questions. Hopefully we'll come out a
big sorry then we'll wrap everything up.
My question is like this. Why was Abra
so upset that he couldn't do? There's no
Is anybody in this room upset that they
can't take a wester today? I don't think
so. It's not sukus. So knew there's no
is upset and he's down. He's despondent.
>> We we we could always
certain time of the year. isn't working.
They don't exist.
>> You can still get his best ability.
>> But but why are you upset?
>> I can't do little of an
>> I wouldn't get a mitzvah.
>> I get But if then I can't do it.
>> But the not here. Nobody needs food.
>> Well, he was upset.
>> Why? He doesn't have the mitzvah.
>> But he doesn't have the mitzvah. Mitzvah
is not here. Are you upset on Tuesday
that you can't make kish?
>> Yeah. Yeah. I have the opportunity to do
the mitzvah
>> and I'm going have the [laughter] I'm
I'm sick. I can't run out. I can
understand that if there's if there's if
there's a guest outside and you can't
get to the door because you're in a
wheelchair, I understand. I'm upset, but
there's no Everybody has what they need.
Imagine everybody in S is rich.
Everybody had millions of dollars would
be upset you can't do.
>> I still have the opportunity
said this is unbelievable.
Wow.
>> I still have the opportunity. He still
can do but he is not he's not able to.
He wants to show he wants to show other
people about how to do it and now he
can't
>> was the first Jew and tora the thera
stands on first
without you cannot have the Torah has no
foundation.
>> Okay. So let's let's get to that. We're
going to get to in a minute. We're going
to develop it. So that's question number
one. Question number two is a question
that big asked Mahimman asked this
question in his cyher in the back in in
a letter in the in the in the he doesn't
understand something we have a cloud
called
if somebody is engaged in a mitzvah he
is not allowed to stop the mitzvah to do
another mitzvah for instance if somebody
say and and comes in wants a donation he
solicits money
According to certain
you don't have a right to stop doing the
mitzvah that you're engaged in to
perform another mitzvah. So here
how can go away from he's middle of
doing a tremendous
he's being he's being
so how can he stop the mitzv
to go to the
he's being
so I already hear the tumbling and
there's a big ramban there's a big
ramban and says that the that
wasn't a mitzvah. It was like an extra
credit. So maybe one can say like that
it wasn't a mitzvah, but they seem to
assume
and the one who wrote the letter to that
it was indeed a mitzvah. So how can
time out? I got to go to the
mitzvah. And thirdly, I know we're
asking a lot of questions, but we're all
going to wrap it all up in one minute.
Third question is Abrain was called
my beloved one. There were three
obvious. What what was the character
trait? What was the essence of Abrau
that he was called Ayavi? My loved one.
Why was Abra called my loved one was an
AB? Why was Abra Why was he called? What
made why was why did love him so much
that he called him? [laughter] So maybe
we can say like this and maybe we can
wrap all the questions up with one you
site there's a pelic of med in
says that meets up with
shame and he meets shame and he says to
shame you know what you were in the tell
me what happened in the what did it look
like what was life in the ta tell me I
go on record it what did life look back
in the table and tells I'll tell you we
were very very busy
by day by night. There were animals that
were up by day slept by night up by
night slept by day up 24 hours slept 24
hours and we my family we are to
continuously being involved with with
animals. So
now if in order to save the world we had
to do and his family have to do with
animals. So I have to go out and do with
human beings and that's why
right away went and he built himself an
asel and medel is an acronym for
and therefore he created a hotel that
anybody wanted to come and enjoy
refreshments and enjoy a good and eat
together with
it was Open. It was open. No, I have a
question. Here's the question.
He was engaged in
because he wanted to save the remaining
people in this world which was himself
and his family. But why did need to be
what was the
world wasn't coming to an end? When he
heard this from
about what happened in the metab
didn't have to save the world that
wasn't mission had to save the remaining
people in the world the six seven people
that were still alive had to save them
so he had to be so what was
so said we see
we see which he what's his name
>> Ruben started alluding
which was
that the Busim say which really comes
from the which is as follows
created a world of says why did create
this world he created this world because
the nature of is
and it's in a good nature to share with
other people and since
Therefore created the world in order
that there should be beneficiaries that
he can share his withinu
was the first of and abrau's mission in
life was to create
and to share this is that the world was
created to be mive with others to
benefit and help other people and that's
why Abrainu who built himself in there
the mindboggling
in Brazil in last week's par
invites in the
and take yourself some bread says to
Benil take yourself some bread and bench
hey who said anything about this is a
scam I invite you in for a meal and I
make him say
so
he says
You know what was he invited you in gave
you a lavish meal and then the would say
you know what thank you very much
would say no don't thank me thanks
he did a lot more what what au did was
he would sit his orim down and say
listen I found the abisha and the aisha
created the world you know why he
created the world to help others that's
what you're going to do, you're going to
help other people. And then this person
would go out and he'd meet another
person and he and this is where
created a world to do with others. And
that's what wants from us wants from all
of us to be mive of other people to find
people that need our help. And there by
giving to other people we are going in
the ways of the says there's a for each
and every one of us to emulate
and go in the ways of and where do we
learn this from
was the one who took that not message
but he took this
and he created a world and the Rambam
says that Aramino reached over 10,000
PEOPLE 10,000 PEOPLE in the life of Noak
couldn't reach one person and au reached
over 10,000 people
because the mission of au was he was
extroverted so no lived a life that's
says he was introverted you want to come
to me you can come to me a went out and
He shared this big
just one second I'll get it to you
our life is built on a premise of
everything that we do in life could
could have a component of says even if
we have a business and he says a
beautiful mush he says a commercial he
says a man comes on a train in the
morning the man comes into a a train
station and he's looking for a horse and
buggy and he finds a driver and he says
says, "Do me a favor. Take me to the
nearest hotel, but it should be a cheap
hotel. I I can't afford it, but it
should be nice." And the wagon driver
says, "You know something? I had this
wonderful idea. There's a wonderful
hotel on the other side of town, and
they have a they have a beautiful
accommodation. It's pretty cheap." And
he engages him in the conversation.
Where you from? And he says, you know, I
work the night shift because I need to
support my family. A back and forth. And
and it brings him to his destination. He
bets him off. He he gives him uh he
gives him his fear. He says, "Thank you
so much. It's going to help me support
my family."
And that's it. He never sees him ever
again. Similar scenario. Guy pulls in
3:00 in the morning and he's looking for
a cab. He's looking for a horse and
buggy. And this guy comes up and says,
he comes and he's cursing. He says, "I
GOT TO WORK THE NIGHT SHIFT TO SUPPORT
MY FAMILY. IT'S TERRIBLE." HE SAYS, "You
know something? Just get me into hotel.
Cheap hotel. Nice accommodations." and
the cabbage and the horse and buggy
driver is thinking the whole time, let
me think of a hotel where I can get a
kickback from the hotel. Let me go
somewhere. They're going to give me some
money. So says, the guy comes to the
hotel and he tries to pay him. He
doesn't even want to take a thank you
from him. Just give him the money. He's
gone. So the first one was such a he
helped the person out. He's nice to him.
the other one doing the same exact job
but he's missing the component of so we
have to look in our lives for ways to
emulate no matter what we're doing if
we're involved in business we're
involved
we have to look at ways to help every
single person because that's the that's
the the job of aid is to
and that's what our was teaching us in
these parishes so therefore
is talking to
he is giving him a
you can't get bigger than but knows that
it's a stealer to be talking to
if at the same time you can be emulating
and going out and doing what wants most
which is helping other people that
answers question number one question
number two is why was
that he didn't haveim He's because that
was mission in life was to help other
people. So even though there were no and
he didn't have a mitzvah but he was
upset. Why was he upset? He was upset
because he wanted to be a mive to others
because THAT'S WHY CREATED THE WORLD.
And that maybe is why is called
my beloved one because he loved so much
took that that
and he spread it around the whole entire
world. Now let's come to this week's
para.
Is there a bigger in this world of where
you do a for somebody that can't
reciprocate? Many times when we do it's
because we have SOMETHING IN MIND. OH,
I'll take this guy here because he'll be
back. OH, I'LL BE FRIEND with him in sh
so he'll say something nice to me. I'll
give something to the so maybe they'll
give me finally or maybe they'll give me
maybe they'll give me hag maybe they'll
mention my name. Maybe the will say
something nice about me when I make a sh
for one of my children
is like rabbi Ruben mentioned is we do
something Mr. Reuben, we do something
entirely for a person and you don't get
anything back. That is
and now we can understand why it's so
important in the I saw something
beautiful from this morning. Beautiful.
What was the sign that Elzar says Elzar
says I need the girl to come. I'm going
to ask her for a little water and she's
going to give me water and then she's
going to feed the camels. She's going to
give the camels to drink. Ces of
he didn't ask her to run a organization.
He didn't he didn't ask that she should
be the entry. He asked that when she
brings her own water to drink, she
should pour a little bit for me. She
should pour something for the camels.
Somebody when they're doing an act and
they have somebody else in mind at the
same time. That is what is. You don't
have to do heroism. You don't have to do
big heroics. The mere fact that somebody
is thinking about somebody else when
they're thinking about themselves. Oh
yeah, I'm taking something to drink. Let
me give something to my I I I read
recently in one of Rabbi Bender's books.
Um wonderful thing he said when he was
growing up he attended
Mala. It's probably over 65 years ago.
And he said the first speaker was
>> excuse me. I'm sorry.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The first the
first time it was Ramb if I'm not
mistaken and and the first speaker is
Belowki was talking to a bunch of
yeshiva boys and he said boys you got to
be my on other people. You got to reach
out to other
and the next speaker was
and he says
a has to sit in the seat and he can't
get out of his seat and he has to run.
And the third speaker was a fifel which
was always very involved very he said
it's not a steer that alone that is
learning is such a big ash on others and
our whole entire life whatever we do
there always people looking at us for
direction and always learning from us
and that is the concept of
look at the flip side of where you don't
have what was the town that didn't
Everybody was into self-saturating
themselves and look what happened to it
went down as a place that the calls. So
when we engage in and we involve other
people when we have a bigger circle
there's and there's but
when we don't involve other people it
becomes now I want to just finish with
one story that somebody told me um mish
last week told me he I asked him if I
can tell the story but I didn't give
permission to say his name I believe
that this individual in 25 years from
now will be from the mai Israel if he's
not yet a god He's a tremendous
tremendous.
I happen to know him because I have a
child that attends camp or attended
campa and I met him many times in campa
and his child whatever has an issue. I
don't know exactly what his child issue
is but he told me not that long ago
recently he told me that at one point of
his child's life the child needed a
kidney transplant. Need a kidney
transplant and it was very hard for him
to find a donor. He couldn't find a
donor for his child and finally it was
decided that his wife was going to be a
donor for his child. His wife was going
to be a donor. So he told me that before
the procedure they needed dialysis for
months and if the procedure they needed
dialysis for months as well. Don't know
why but this is what he told me. And he
told me he picked a particular Thursday
or the hospital told them in in Boston a
particular Thursday of when the
transplant was going to take place. So
he said he made he was a young family at
the time he made all the arrangements of
his family know it is to farm all the
kids out and he lives somewhere in the
tri-state area and they were going to go
to Boston and this child's going yeah
this child he's a large family 10
children can he farmed all the kids out
and he called up all the yeshivas to say
tone for his child and for his wife on
that particular day of when they're
going to have the transplant and
everything was set and now his wife went
up to Boston on Monday to have a workup
Tuesday night, he gets a phone call and
he says, "This is Children's Hospital of
Boston. We have a tremendous favor to
ask of you. There's a child that was
supposed to have a transplant on
Wednesday morning and Mea Tom Shia, the
kidney that was supposed to be
transplanted to this child went bad. But
there's another donor who was also
supposed to give to somebody else and
another donor couldn't be a recipient.
So the only way that that child who was
supposed to have the transplant on
Wednesday would be able to get the
kidney is if you switch and instead of
Thursday, you come on Wednesday and the
child that supposed to be on Wednesday
will go on Thursday. But the child
that's supposed to go on Wednesday can't
have the transplant a day later than
Thursday and will not be available a day
before Thursday. So they said, "But it's
your slot. It's your decision and
whatever you decide to do, it's
perfectly fine. we respect and we wish
you good luck. Now he's in Brooklyn.
It's late Tuesday night. He's think it's
at 10:00. He has no idea how in the
world he's going to make all these
accommodations. Men are not very good at
this making accommodations. Anytime I go
away, my wife has to come with me. She's
kid I'm going to leave kids in Brooklyn.
So anyway, so he's very nervous that you
two, right? Anyways, no, for sure not.
Right. And so anyways, he said, "No, no
way." Anyways, so he says he says that
he had no idea what to do. So he called
up his father. His father's a very big
and he says to his father, "Daddy, do I
have to do it?" Not only that, I found
out I don't know how he found out. He
said, "The other parties are good." So
as far as I don't know, we got to quote
on this.
>> Wow.
>> Say Kamki, this is years ago. And Kamki
tells him, "Listen, you're going into
such a delicate procedure.
what's wrong if you do a for somebody
else and get your act together. So he
tells
so
he tells me what I said it's in the
says knew that the wereim
he KNEW
NOT YET I don't even know why was he
giving them food
because
is in the hands of the even if the is
not deriving a pleasure or deriving
benefit still we have to be givers and
that's the lesson of the life of Abraino
and Abramino in order to have a
continuity in order for somebody to
perpetuate Abra's legacy he needs a
daughter-in-law that's a and that was so
important to take a daughter-in-law that
would perpetuate and and and and be this
unbelievable legacy of and it's only
witham
is that
should help that we all come together.
We should all take the lessons from
these couple of parases to keep on
ending
and that's
