secrete estrogen hormone into the
bloodstream to prepare the lining of the
uterus for pregnancy.
Around day seven, all of the follicles
stop growing and begin to degenerate
except for one.
This dominant follicle continues to grow
and nourishes the developing egg inside
it.
Around day 12, the follicle secretes a
large amount of estrogen into the
bloodstream.
When the estrogen reaches the
hypothalammus and the pituitary gland in
the brain, the anterior or front part of
the pituitary gland releases a huge
surge of luteinizing hormone into the
bloodstream.
Around day 14, luteinizing hormone
causes the follicle to undergo a sudden
growth spurt. Right before ovulation,
the egg detaches from the inside of the
follicle. The bulging follicle releases
chemicals, causing one of the two
fallopian tubes to move in closer and
surround the follicle.
The follicle swells until it bursts
open, ejecting the egg and fluid from
the follicle into the abdominal cavity.
In response, the fimria, tiny
projections at the end of the fallopian
tube, sweep across the ovulation site
and pick up the egg. Microscopic psyia
on the fimria surface transport the egg
to the entrance of the fallopian tube.
Inside the walls of the fallopian tube,
muscular contractions gently push the
egg towards the uterus. After ovulation,
the egg lives for 12 to 24 hours. So, it
must be fertilized by a sperm from the
male during this time for a woman to
become pregnant. If it's not fertilized,
the egg dissolves away and is shed along
with the uterine lining during
menration.

ovulation is caused by a hormone called
LH luteinizing hormone. when the body um
receives a big dose of this LH
luteinizing hormone. So that causes

um it's a basically like a spike in in
in this hormone. Um then that egg as
it's travels through the fallopian tube
supposed to be fertilized by zera from
the man during a 12 to 24hour per
window. That's the only time during the
month that a woman could get pregnant.
She cannot get pregnant before, she
cannot get pregnant after. There's that
little window of time,

invaders, destroy thousands more.

Next, half the sperm head for the empty
fallopian [music] tube, while the other
half swim toward the tube containing the
unfertilized egg. Now, only a few
thousand remain.
Inside the fallopian tube, tiny cilia
push the egg toward the uterus. To
continue, the sperm must surge against
this motion to reach the egg. Some sperm
get trapped in the psyia and die. During
this part of the journey, chemicals in
the reproductive tract [music] cause the
membranes covering the heads of the
sperm to change. As a result, [music]
the sperm become hyperactive, swimming
harder and faster toward their

At long last, the sperm reach the egg.
Only a few dozen of the original 300

with a layer of cells called the corona

layer to reach the outer layer of the
egg, the zona palucida.
When sperm reach the zona [music]
palucida, they attach to specialized
sperm receptors on the surface [bell]
which triggers their acrosomes to
release digestive enzymes.
enabling the sperm to borrow into the
layer.
Inside the zone of palucida is a narrow
fluid fil space [music] just outside the
egg cell membrane.
The first sperm to make contact [music]
will fertilize the egg.
After a perilous journey and against
incredible odds, a single [music] sperm
attaches to the egg cell membrane.
Within a few minutes, their outer
membranes fuse and the egg pulls [music]
the sperm inside.
This event causes changes in the egg
membrane [music] that prevent other
sperm from attaching to it.
Next, [music] the egg releases chemicals
that push other sperm away from the egg
and create an impenetrable fertilization
membrane. As the reaction [music]
spreads outward, the zona palucida
hardens, trapping any sperm unlucky
enough to be caught inside.
Outside [music] the egg, sperm are no
longer able to attach to the zona
palucida.
Meanwhile, inside the egg, the tightly

spreads out.
A new membrane forms around the genetic
[music] material, creating the male
pr-ucleus.
Inside the genetic material reforms into
[music] 23 chromosomes.
The female genetic material awakened by
the fusion of the sperm with the egg
finishes dividing resulting in the
female pr-ucleus which also contains 23

As the male and female pr-uclei form,
spiderweblike threads called
microtubules pull them toward each
other.
The two sets of chromosomes join
together, completing the process of
fertilization.
At this moment, a unique genetic code
arises, instantly determining gender,
hair color, eye color, and hundreds of
other characteristics.
This new single cell, the zygote, is the
beginning of a new human being.
And now the cyia in the fallopian tube
gently sweep the zygote toward [music]
the uterus where he or she will implant
in the rich uterine lining growing and
[music] maturing for the next 9 months
until ready for birth.

swims much quicker but it's very

words, um how do you determine
ovulation? There's three ways how to
determine ovulation.
First one is with ovulation sticks.
That's the most common way how we could
determine when ovulation is happening.
And that is it's it's like a pregnancy
test. It's a little uh urine stick,
right? But instead of testing for the
pregnancy hormone, which is hcg, it
tests for a hormone called LH, right?
Very good. Right? We saw we saw before
that um that the LH is what causes
ovulation. So that means that when a
woman gets a positive LH, right? That
means that there's a huge spike in LH,
which you know LH is really what causes
ovulation, which means that really she's
only going to ovulate somewhere within
the next 12 to 24 hours and somewhere
within the next 12 and the egg's good
for 12 to 24 hours. So the windows be
about 2 days after that positive uh
>> 12 to 24 hours. 12 to 24 hours.

>> right, for for her to ovulate. And then
the egg itself is good for for
>> 12 to 24 hours. Again, there's it's not
like, you know, to the minute. You know,
when you get a positive, you also don't
know when you're catching it. You could
catch the spike on the way up, you could
catch the spike on the way down. I
always tell women that if you're going
to test for for uh ovulation, it's
important to test at the same time every
day, right? Because if you're going to
test let's say one day in the morning
and then in then the next day instead of
doing in the morning she forgot she does
it at night she could have totally
missed it right she think she didn't
ovulate that month or whatever it is but
>> three times a day or something.
>> We could also test three times a day and
then you'll know if I care. And if you
do three times a day there's a good
chance you'll be able to see where the
peak was because the darker the uh the
second line is the better meaning the
stronger the amount of LH in her system
is. So, you'll actually be able to to
see if you do three times a day. I mean,
don't it's not necessary, but uh but you
know, if you want to do that, they're,
you know, they're not definitely not
cheap. Um

>> I mean, I don't know. It's a box.
Depends on the company. You could get
probably a box of uh uh
12 or I'm trying to remember what they
come in. A few dollars or whatever it
is, but not crazy expensive either.
Again, if you're testing every month, it
adds up.
Um, that being said, um, right, that's
one way to test. Are you allowed

boy, that's a good question. You want to
have a boy and you have and she didn't

method you would have to abstain

which is you have to ask you have to ask
um there you know there are a few
different considerations I'll give you
the considerations but again

should be considering first of all um is
is uh obviously you know if there's a
involved right if she's that she wants
uh you know she wants to be together
it's her during mikvah night is a
mitzvah I know that means the husband is
like to you know be fire and give her
food and clothing to be pike on on on a
day right on a on a on a mik of night
and therefore um he has which if she's
she can be meaning she also wants
responsible
that would be that would be okay. The
other consideration is meaning if she
does go to the mikvah and it's going to
be too hard for him and might be a sh of
that might also be a consideration which
is something that we deal with sometimes
let's say you know

can't be together but she's now mutter

you know if there's going to be you know

there's another two ways how to test for
ovulation one of them is called BBT
basil body temperature that means that
if a woman would take a good thermometer
and one that's very accurate and test uh
check her temperature every day of the
month. She should be about 1° C or
what's that 1.8 or something uh degrees
Fahrenheit warmer during ovulation. So
uh you know that that's another way how
to do it. And the third way is cerv
cervical mucus. As we saw in the in the
video during ovulation, the cerv
cervical mucus right the the which is
the mucus that comes out from the cervix
um gets thinner
to allows it to go through. It's one of
other new places of now after ovulation
there's a hormone that the body produces
called progesterone which makes the
mucus thicken sealing the cervix that
care that nothing else should come in.
You know, once the woman is pregnant,
right, the the body, right, is closing
it off. Doesn't it's amazing. It's it's
it's mom is amazing. So during that
those two days specifically, the mucus
is much runnier. And there are women
that are very in touch with themselves
and they could literally, you know, they
they they they do it with their fingers
and they could tell you right away when
they're ovulating. And then other women
don't. And it's not, you know, yesh,
it's okay. But there are three different
ways how to tell if a woman is
ovulating. you know that a woman can't
tell if she's ovulating or not. And
again, Dr. Shettles came out with that
um relations during uh right after
ovulation um is much more shy, it's much
more likely to have a boy. So now we
have one shot in
meaning if the is
means if she if she gives if she
ovulates first right and then he and
then he's
right. So then it's it's much more
likely to have a because again the the
boy sperm is quicker. That's one
mahalak. There is another mahalak that
stems also with with the gumar and in
anduven and in rash that connects the
two that we said vashina right that that
when a person's bash makes the woman be
gives her and makes her be mazri and
because of that
so that sounds like is the ovulation but
something more to what's called a climax
right so the the the body if a woman
will climax. So what the body does is it
produces a certain um uh substance. The

and it kind of balances the pH by some
making it much more uh more much less

right, it's going to it's going to kill
it's going to kill the that zera, right?
When you have zera that is uh less uh if
you have an environment that is much
less uh acidic, right? That's much less
uh uh you know, hazardous to the zera.
So right away that'll allow the zer to

again would allow her to um to be mazria

microscope and they're able to find, you
know, and again, even in the ones that
they find, they'll find like, you know,
2, three, 5, 10, whatever it is, they
have such big magnification that they
could choose the one that looks the
healthiest and use that for IVF where
they're going to join it with the egg,
you know, in vitri, obviously, outside
the woman, and then return just the
embryo inside. Um there's one last uh uh
shila that I definitely would like to
address and that is um
so hi that we saw that scientifically it
is possible to um what determine
scientifically what determines the
gender is the zera um first of all and
second of all when you see a fertilized
egg right they're [clears throat] able
to see by the chromosomes they're able
to see if it's a you know what it is is
it boy or a girl right away in a
fertilized egg. You could see that. So
the question is, let's say if a family
has uh a bunch of a bunch of girls and
they want to be mammas perivia, right?
Are they allowed to do uh IVF in order
to have a boy? Is that enough?

boy?

uh you take uh the egg out from the
lady, you take zera from the man, you
put them together in uh you know lab and
