so so where where are we where am i called where are we talking from jonesport maine jonesport maine and how long have you been living it's in the northeastern section of may and how long have you been living there for 51 years and how did you end up in north north would you say no northeastern it's it's uh where the sun rises first in the us wow wow so so how did you end up there uh well uh i met my wife in detroit and um we happened to get a hold of a boston globe and uh there was we're looking and there was a piece of land five acres for 300 and we just drove up to this area and we ended up buying this piece of land 20 acres or 800 so you got 20 acres of land 800. for 800 in the middle of some beautiful place in maine where the sun rises first yeah that's right yeah what what lessons do you learn from having to farm your own land well uh uh one is the is the aspect of um the the nace of of uh how things know what to do when you plant the seed and how how things are so formulated with exactness and uh you can't you can't turn it down uh you know as far as uh aydus asis hashem yeah it's interesting how you know in in the city um which thank god you've been away from for a while the world has gone crazy um and one of the things that we struggle with really is this is the time to observe the time to think the time to allow the mind to process because the stimuli comes at us so quickly yeah that yeah we don't you probably are able to deepen your thinking in a way that few people can and it's fascinating that that that's a sort of a constant theme that it is a yid has to enjoy thinking and and enjoy his mind you know so what message would you give us today you know this is the week of tu bishvat the week of of of the fruit the trees the land appreciating the world around us what message would you give everybody especially during this week uh this is a time we always said when the we used to tap maple trees for um uh making maple syrup you know so tube schwarzwood everything looks more or less not alive you know there's no leaves on the trees uh usually there's snow on the ground usually the weather's cold uh but underneath the sap is rising it from the the days are getting longer you notice the sun is more intense and so to restrad is that is that um can we say hog holiday where we once again key in to uh everything going on as far as the life force if you can say that is always working even though when it looks like everything's in hibernation and underneath it it's an ongoing process and and then all the rest the rest period needed when the ground freezes and you get that shabbos tablecloth of snow so you don't you you don't see the um you don't you don't see the problems everything gets covered up and it's more relaxing so all these times the colors change and um as uh satya gang says this world olam hasa is a food world every color is for food everything that happens is production of food so we see in the fall you everything starts to turn brown and all these colors are relaxing because a person can't have a intensity he has to have a uh a rest from intensity there has to be periods of intensity and periods of rest and uh both on a seasonal scale and then our weekly scale we have shabbos where we have to pull out just like hashem pulls out in a temperate climate and so the ground gets a rest everything gets a rest because you can you you can't get burned out you know so right that tuber tells you underneath underneath when things don't look alive there's there's a continual uh life force going on beautiful the zap is starting to go up the tree doesn't look like there's any leaves on it but it's starting reacting and a man harvests a crop which is the maple sap that makes a delicious product maple syrup you know so amazing i think that would be the lesson uh to learn from this particular uh holiday hog time of year well thank you so much for joining us and thank you for your time okay it was great i hope we get through this again some time we get a little more time together but for today we really want to thank you for uh for being part of it for being where you are and for being our uh our representative at the place where the sun shines first man that's a great place to be i pass it on to you yeah good to speak with you you as well god bless you thank you and and and continue shining your light on this world oh man yeah got my time thanks so much for watching for more content like and subscribe and be sure to tune in live every thursday at 8 pm eastern at the shabbato.com or right here on youtube
